Only with a setting of "APN=internet" it is possible to listen live to the radio, TV etc. But I would like to know if there is a way to this with "APN=wap", because of my flat-rate plan.
No,if you are using wap..
There are many new offers for Unlimirted GPRS..try ask to your operator..
If I install a wap proxy on my server and then access it via my mda-II (with apn=WAP), would I get TV-streaming on my devoce?

Hi,
Have anyone experience free GPRS?
I DO
Yes I have and still on it 8)
Its free somehow? :?:
Anyone else have got it too?
What do you mean, all GPRS is free, isn't it?
GPRS Data Plan
No, GPRS isn't free. You need to go into a data plan
depending on the network that operates it. Nothing
is free in this world especially with telecomunication.
Some might have Free GPRS maybe on a trial run etc.
on my nokia i have a BT genie simcards this gives me unlimited wap and gprs for free also 300txts per month its not the newer 02 online sim they only allow 300min of wap/gprs....
anyway i used to use gprs on wa all the time on my 3510i then i got my xda...
using the GPRS connection for the net dont work for me but yet works with the wap explorer but if i use my wap dialup conection i get free internet useasge but i think its only like 20kb/s which is quite cool really shame it dont work on gprs though
John - just goes to show how little you know about what you're posting on then, doesn't it?
Quest
Hi Anon,
Are you trying to tell me you can get free GPRS
on your O2xda? I would love to know how you do it
then......that is if you care to share here.
WAP over GPRS on O2 incurs no charge, you need to speak to your network as this is not something that is true across all networks.
Quest
Dont worry, I already found a way to use GPRS on my
O2Xda surfing the internet for FREE.
Would you care to illuminate the rest of us Quest? We like free!
Free Mobile Web
Does Anyone know how i can get Free Mobile Web over GPRS. If anyone does then PLEASE let me know.
Did you know the word "gullible" does not appear in any dictionary?
Free GPRS (maybe...)
I sometimes hear that if you configure the WAP/MMS access point name instead of the internet one, you may get fee connectivity since WAP is usually billed on the service level, and MMS is billed per transaction. If you don't get IP, you may be able to get free mobile-to-mobile traffic, or maybe even find a proxy which will allow browsing.
I'm just relaying what I heard here. I have not tested anything, I do not recommend doing this, and I definitely recommend not assuming something is free until you get the bill. Your mileage may vary beyond all comprehension.
I found some web pages talked about o2 offering free WAP and txt messages... also mention of o2 as genie etc. This may all be old news?
O2 Wap / Mobile Internet settings:
Homepage: http://wap.O2.co.uk/
Dialup access number: 915000
Gateway (IP) address: 193.113.200.195

Freebies
Hi.
I have the old genie free wap access too. Until about a month ago, O2 allowed access through port 80 (WEB http) and 6201 (Wap wsp) but they have just blocked port 80 so I can now only get the crappy o2 active site and for anyhing else i need to go through the 'find' option at the bottom of the o2 Active site. Problem is I can't get half the bloomin' wap sites I used to get and I resent having to use the active home page to view anything, I don't like moaning because I only pay £10 a month and get free wap dialup over gsm (no gprs) but i think it's a bit below the belt to just block me. anyone else having this problem?
Is there anyway to tunel through 6201 or can I use a different proxy for http traffic (o2 give 193.113.200.195, which has stopped working) cos I'd like to be able to get my active sync working mobile again.
HELP ME!!!!!!
my gprs is almost free... $4.99USD/month
only ports 80/110/25/995/443 and some other port are open though... enough for me.
Re: Freebies
Hi, This is my first posting on this forum, so I hope I understand the question properly. I'm using a very old Genie (O2) SIM card. This gives no GPRS, but practically unlimited GSM (cellular line) dialup WAP access via shortcode 915000 or 07712927927.
Username o2wap
Password password
My GSM WAP proxy settigs are:
HTTP 193.113.200.195 Port 8080
WAP 193.113.200.195 Port 9201
SECURE WAP 193.113.200.200 Port 9203
SOCKS 193.113.200.195 Port 1080
I'm using an i-Mate PDA 2K (Blue Angel)
I can surf WAP and web pages, including some secure servers, e.g. Amazon, but since some time last month, it hasn't let me log in to this forum or my internet banking account.
I find sometimes my links to WAP pages in Favourites stop working; they work again after I delete and re-create them. I find links to WAP pages only work if they begin wsp://
and I suspect mine got changed to http:// during synchronisation with ActiveSync.
Hope this helps
John

With the current weakness of the dollar, $4.95 will get you about 1.2MB of GPRS use in rip-off britain with rip-off O2 currently!

geting wap on the xda 2s
hi im new to this, i have a XDA 2s using o2 payasyougo. i get 300 free wap time and 2mb GPRS. i have no problem connecting to WAP and GPRS but i cant seem to view any web pages or WAP pages. nothing loads up or it just says error conecting to server. i installed a WAP browser Klondike but even that doesnt load anything up not even 02Active. But i can view web and WAP pages through "MobileWeb" connection settings, but that CHARGES ALOT PLEASE HELP...
Okay so im relativley new to this mobile internet stuff but my gprs connects through a proxy on my smartphone. Kind of like the tzones connects.. but i have a regional provider called Centennial Wireless.. ANYWAYS.. i can browse the web through internet explorer just fine.. but i CANNOT use any java apps with it. i DONT THINK i can use push email with it. and i cant use any messenger service with it. is there ANY work around for this annoyingness.?.. i just wonder bc i can access any webpage (wap or non wap) through INET explorer.. ALSO is there any other browser that i can use? i would LOVE to use opera mini.. but i dont think thats happening. let me know pleaseee
most providers block traffic on their proxy.. im on cingular and when i use their proxy'd connection i cant get out on java app's or IM's.. however cingular provides a connection that doesnt have the proxy, so you might want to check and see if there is another connection on your phone available that uses EDGE but not the proxy
I messed around with a few settings on my v635 (changes the port to 8080 and changed the type to HTTP.) and i got perfect connection.. i was able to access the web from java applications!!! so i know its possible now.. just how to enter the same setting on my DASH is the question now?.. here werer the exact setting on the v635.
Service type 1:Http (used to be wap)
Gateway IP 1: 066.099.231.135
Port 1: 8080 (used to be 9201)
SAME FOR PORT 2^
APN: mmspublicwap.centennialwireless.com
and i can access through java apps.. does this mean that the v635 isnt using a proxy and i need to somehow tke the proxy outta the dash? or no?
Hey all...so im using a little loop whole to use free tmobile internet via proxy settings...now i got the internet to work, but only IE works! i cant get online with any other program such has AIM, myweather app, or anything else, only IE goes online...anyone have this issue? or how to fix it? its driving me crazy!
could be they are blocking the ports used for such services
i dunno?...Live search is the other only program tht works online too...
i believe that it use port80 like browsers too
It uses port 8080, Using IM+ and setting the AIM port to 110 will allow you to connect, but remember it's only a few ports that are open and other programs might not have a setting to change ports for it to work with the Tzones proxy.
You can't (as yet) use 1 connection setting on the T-Mobile network using the T-Zones proxy workaround. I have been (tediously) using 2 connections.
(for internet)
T-Zones proxy
wap.voicestream.com
216.155.165.50:8080
(for mail)
T-Mobile Data
wap.voicestream.com
**no proxy settings**
I've been searching for a way to set up one connection to use which would automatically bypass and use a second connection if connectivity couldn't be established. No one seems to have an answer for this, but i'd love it if someone could figure it out!
I'm waiting as well...
I aked the same question and still waiting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340945
This happened after I flashed the latest TMO ROM, prior to that I had one connection for all my internet apps. Now my weather, and email don't need a proxy but PIE and Live search do what has changed?
has anyone managed to get this working yet? i subscribed yesterday thinking it would lead me to an app download or somthing but all it gave me was the sky+ recording app thing
dont want to be peying for somthing i can use
iphone has a dedicated app for it which i would have thought would of been available for any phone capable of watching sky on it...want it working before tomorrow so i can watch the match
bump, no one got sky?
What network are you on?
I'm on T-mobile and go to the web 'n' walk home page, from there click on the TV and Video tab and there is a link to Sky Sports TV. I found I have to be on 3G not Wifi to connect to it. Then go into the subscriptions and choose what you want.
If you are not on T-mobile then I assume you go into your network own mobile homepage.
Cheers.

imon vodafone and for some reason they see HD2 users and business customers instead of personal so you can't use vodafone live, i was hoping someone had found a way around this...cant wait for my contract to end, hate vodafone
ok just came across this info, now subscribed and able to get on vodawank live, maybe this could be put in the hints and tips thread?
To get onto live, you need to change your settings. Here is a quick explanation I found from the admin of the forum. If your in a rush to get onto live then skip this part =)

What's an APN?
APN stands for Access Point Name, and is perhaps best thought of as a ‘gate’ or ‘portal’ through to reaching the internet. Different APN’s have different properties, and so there are benefits and features to using them appropriately.
When attempting to connect to an internet-based service (say, the browser, or email), most phones will normally prompt the user with APN options. It’s important that you connect through the right one, otherwise the service might not even work. Our quick guide will explain what all the different APNs are, and the ones that you need to go through to make the correct connection.
For example, a user’s APN list might resemble in part the following:
1 – Contract Internet
2 – Contract WAP
3 – PAYT Internet
4 – PAYT WAP
Contract Internet
APN: Internet
Username: web
Password: web
This is our default Contract customer APN for general internet use, and should be the default for any non-Vodafone or Live! related service (such as Google Maps, for an example).
What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse the web, connect to or send email from your mobile's built-in email inbox.
What it’s not used for: You cannot connect to Vodafone Live! via this APN (use 'Contract WAP', below)
Contract WAP
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
This is our default Contract customer APN for Vodafone Live! and Live! based services.
What it’s used for: Go through this portal if you want to browse Vodafone Live!, or make use of any Vodafone Live! services, such as Mobile TV.
What it’s not used for: You cannot access or send email from device-based email clients (such as Outlook Mobile, or a generic Messages inbox), nor will non-Vodafone internet-based applications work via this APN. For this please use the 'Contract Internet' APN

Now the how to:
1.Go to start-> settings -> wireless controls
2.tap menu in the bottom right corner, then connections
3.At the bottom of the screen should be two tabs, Tasks and Advanced. Tap Advanced.
4.You should have "Select which networks are automatically used" appear. tap the box Select Networks
5. "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" Contract WAP, tap ok
6.Go to the web browser of your choice. and go to http://live.vodafone.com - if you don't get the vodafone live site, you've done something wrong.
7. If you want TV on your HD2, you'll need to have 3G or H at the top of the screen otherwise you'll just get the message saying your not in the area. I just subscribed to sky sports =)
Just a thought, I think there may be a downside to leaving it on contract WAP so I guess it would be wise to return it to Contract internet when possible.
Hope this helps =)
sorry to drag this up again but a word of warning to anyone thinking about getting sky mob tv, the quality is disgustingly bad, best ive had so far is 92kbs, considering tvcatchup.com is pretty much a perfect picture i think its a bit of a ripp off!
after all the *****ing i did LOL
Hi,
I have done the fix to allow Opera to allow my HD2 to use BBC iPlayer via WI-FI, but when I try to view over 3G or H, I receive a message on the BBC iPlayer page in Opera stating "Change to WIF-FI. Only available to '3' and Vodafone customers".
I am a Vodafone customer, but my HD2 is unbranded - bought from Devicewire. Is there a fix to allow me to stream TV via 3G/H?
Thanks.
Graeme
There is, do a search something to do with using Voda's WAP settings as this gets recognised and thus allows you to use the service but forget all that rubbish, just use Myplayer far superior in every way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501131
But if you really want it straight from Opera, try the following (taken from Voda forums):
Settings/Menu/All Settings/Connections/Connections/Add a new modem connection
Enter any name for your connection (any will do) and choose Cellular Line (GSM) as the line.
Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User: wap
Pass: wap
Then select this new WAP connection as your default connection and it should work.
Thanks!
Thanks xavierdemon,
I should have realised that BBC would have been looking for a link with Vodafone, hence WAP.
Yes, I did install myPlayer & Coreplayer last night and they are very good.
Now that I have resolved this issue, I agree, I will stick to the myPlayer and Coreplayer.
Thanks again.
