QTEK 2020 in USA: from West coast to East Coast - Networking

Hi from Italy. somebody can help me ? I will come in USA next month. I will across the USA from west to east coast, driving car. I would like to have with me my QTEK 2020. What sim card (T-Mobile, for example ?) can i buy in USA to have GPRS connection too in my QTEK 2020 ? What are the settings ? Thanks

That's a tough one, because I don't think T-Mobile pre-paid users get GPRS coverage. I could be wrong, but I think I've heard that.
T-Mobile does have the best GSM coverage in the US, but you will have a lot of dead spots. Are you driving? There are many open, uninhabited spaces in the US with no cell coverage, especially GSM. Also if you roam into an area served by another carrier, GPRS will not work. We're so far behind the rest of the world on things like this.
You should talk to T-Mobile or your own current carrier and see what they have for roaming agreements in the US.

HSDPA - International Roadmaps

As we are an international community here I'd like to use the "collective brain" of this forum to get a screenshot of the HSDPA roadmaps of mobile operators worldwide.
So I'd like to ask everybody herewith to contribute on the HSDPA plans of the operators in your home countries.
To start this thread here the status within Austria:
Country: Austria - AT
Operator: Mobilkom Austria
Launch of HSDPA: now
Device promoted: Vodafone Mobile Connect Card
Special Price Plans: no
Data Price Plans: yes (e.g. 500MB for EUR 29)
Sounds like you on of the first in the west to get it. South Africa (Vodacom) will launch on 2 April 2006.
I am currently in Israel, and as far as I understand from the media - Orange Israel (one of the local GSM providers), has announced that HSDPA is currently operated by them.
In Germany both T-Mobile and vodafone offer HSDPA since CeBIT, and seem to also offer a PC card for it.
USA
USA has HSPDA however it is tuned to the 1900mhz band so it doesn't work
SPAIN
What is HSPDA¿
hspda
hspda is a next gen of 3g that will eventually support high bandwidth however they are diffrent technologies and hspda in the usa runs on the 1900mhz band. These are both UTMS.

Moving to Australia from UK in a few months - buy X1a or X1i?

Hi,
I currently live in the UK and I will be moving to Australia in a few months.
I'd like to buy an X1 but even after spending hours on the net trying to find an answer, I can't decide what's the best version to buy to enjoy 3G in Oz and Europe: X1a or X1i?
I will be living in Sydney, but ideally I'd like to have good 3G coverage in all major east coast cities (X1i 900MHz OK?), and possibly in the countryside (X1a 850MHz mandatory?). It's also hard to tell which network provider is best (coverage, price) when you don't live there...
Please could you give me your opinion?
That would be great if you live in Australia and can advise accordingly
This post and the associated thread are good, but I still can't really decide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3409009&postcount=15
Many thanks in advance,
Seb
I was in Australia 3 weeks ago and X1i worked just fine there. No idea about 3G, but I would say it all depends on the provider and how well they cover it.
Both the X1i and X1a work here, but on different networks. Our largest provider Telstra uses the 850MHz band so you will need an X1a for them. You can buy an X1a on contract with them. Other providers like Optus and Vodaphone use the 900MHz band so you would need an X1i for them. Optus is just about to introduce an x1i contract (I think). Telstra is supposed have the most extensive coverage, (out bush) but I have an optus service and live in the country and their coverage is fine. In terms of cost of service Optus cost a way lot less than Telstra. The main telco forum site here is whirlpool.net.au. It will give you a good flavour of what, what's good and what isn't.
Oh one last thing … you'll pay a lot less for an X1 purchased outright in the UK than you will here in Oz.

Thanks a lot, very useful information!
You'll need to consider which carrier you join very carefully. All carriers use 2100MHz WCDMA in major cities and suburbs, but outer rim suburbs and rural areas will use 850MHz (Telstra) or 900MHz (Optus & Vodafone). There is another carrier called "3" but they only have a small metropolitan 2100MHz deployment and roam on to Telstra GSM (not 3G) at the same call rate for the rest of the time. (However, data is charged at a different, exorbitant rate.)
Telstra is the most reliable, but the most expensive- any other 3G data carrier is likely to be completely overloaded at peak times, depending on where you live. Optus is popular with the younger population because they have the best prepaid deals (possibly the best medium to heavy use data + calls deal around). 3 is also popular with that demographic because they offer decent call rates and a large amount of free minutes between their own customers, however bad for business because of issue with data roaming.

Thanks for the additions.
I kind of made my mind to get the X1i and I will probably get an Optus pre-paid once I get there.

Moving to USA (CA) ...

Hi,
I'm currently living in Europe (France) but I will be moving to California (San Francisco) in early December. I own a blackstone, which I bought here in France.
How should I expect it to work in San Francisco? From what I understood, I might not enjoy 3G+ ... Is that true?
Any informations welcome
it will not have 3G service. Only the Tesla model will work with 3G in the states. My touch HD works works vary well in San Fran but it is the ausy model
As stated there is no 3G service.
However, plenty of free WiFi areas.

Ok, thank you very much! I guess there IS a 3G service, but my phone isn't compatible, right? In that case I'll just sell my phone before moving ... Or is it possible that there is still no 3G service in SF??

3G service in available in all major US cities; your phone needs to have the right US 3G bands. for at&t the 850/1900 band is used for 3G, for T-Mobile (i believe) it's 1700/2100.
what he said, so make sure the phone you buy next is North america 3G compatible (850-1900htz 3G). My Blackstone only has 850 htz 3G but I have never had a area where my ATT fuze was 3G and my Touch HD(ausy model) wasn't.
Okay, all clear now. Thanks a lot for all your help.

From USA going to Italy, anyone use MXPE overseas?

How did it go? any useful info on data? (I doubt Ill need to call much if at all) Thanks for any help.
You can check here for any carrier in any country :
http://www.willmyphonework.net
You can use your MXPE everywhere in Europe; the only thing won't work is the 800MHz LTE (B20). But it's not problem, 3G is fully functionally and 4G too on B3 and B7.
I went to Italy this summer with note 3 (unlocked) and got a TIM sim. It was pretty cheap around 30 euros in total and came with some data.
My MXPE with Tmobile worldwide roaming data + SMS has been and worked well in Israel, China, Spain, England and Germany.

Poor Reception in UK (Using USA 6P) Roaming

Hi all
Im running the 7.0 ROM, bootloader and radio from tupac4u and am getting terrible reception in the UK most noticeable in the Poole/Bournemouth and south area.
I was on pure nexus previously and had the same issues.
I am roaming from NZ and usually it connects to Vodafone UK and sometimes EE.
Has anyone had any issues with reception here with the USA model phone? (I know 4g won't work but 3g+ is still hugely spotty and even call GSM reception and network is terrible).
Is there anything i can do? My colleague has a s6edge and gets better reception than me most of the time and we have the same mobile servive plan.
. thanks

These gsm bands should be supported by the US model:
850 GSM
900 (E-GSM) GSM
1800 (DCS) GSM
1900 (PCS) GSM
Scouce: https://www.frequencycheck.com/models/GNoeA/google-nexus-6p-h1511.
Me personaly i would never buy a US model for the EU/World market.
Thanks for your response. I am just wondering if there is a UK radio I can flash to get a better signal in general. My colleagues with similar banded phones get much better reception so I am just wondering if it is something to do with the 6P?
I'm in the UK for work, and on roaming .. if I lived in the UK I would have purchased a global model for sure.
Cheers
