i Mate XDA II hangs - Networking

Hi
I had upgraded to i - mate 1.72 wwe rom downloaded from i mate club in the month of July 2004. Every thing worked very fine. Now my i mate has started hanging, some times even hard and cold reboot also stops responding. At this time I have to remove my battery for about 10 sec. and replace i mate hard resets. I have even purchased another battery to check if it is a battery problem, but same things are repeated with the new battery also. Even I have tried updating the I mate phone again the process is shown as complete after 5th stage by PC where as the PPC screen says ‘Radio stack being upgraded Please wait’ Please help me in resolving my prob. I am really missing my XDA II.
Regards
anil

You're not alone, but I don't have a solution. It happened to me twice last week, both times on an airplane, and never before or since. I think mine just doesn't like flying.

On a boat!
Mine kept happening on a boat on Holiday. An aversion to water ??
Interestingly, I have a feeling it has something to do with bad phone signal - not sure, but could be ??

Was the radio in flight mode on the plane?
I noticed that when the reception is bad (and when reception gets started after leaving flight mode) the radio takes up quite some cpu and/or oi resources from the device. Could be combination of that AND a lot of programs running at that time . . . .

My PHONE JUST LOCKS ON THE SPLASH SCREEN

Hey guys,
Before my phone locks up on the splash screen, the OS (Windows Mobile 6) began to run very very very sluggish, the battery was full this morning until when I switched it on (and has not been used since) went to 30% in just about 4 hours, only bluetooth was on and no wifi nor GPS.
I then performed a soft reset to clear up some memory and to stop what ever is being used in the background, to find that after waiting for 30 minutes and only getting the Windows Mobile screen for that long shows that there was a problem.
I NEED HELP NOW! I HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION ON MY PHONE AND IT HASN'T BEEN BACKED UP, how do I retrieve my SMS/Emails and etc. so that I can perform a hard-reset.
I've just called HTC's tech centre which is Teleplan.
They stated that I should take out the battery and leave it for say 2 hours or more, I think this was to drain the internal battery not the actually battery.
Not sure what the outcome of this may be, but I will keep you posted.

Do you have an update to this. I faced a similar problem with my WM5 device yesterday and am snce unable to load it successfully. It just remains on the windows mobile screen - Indefinately.
Please share the outcome of removing the external battery. I do not want to hard reset either since don't have my sms / mails backed up.
Thanks,
Umesh.

Sorry mate, I don't, I think I was too anxious that I installed the battery in too early, I may just leave the darn thing overnight.
I too didn't back up all my SMS's and MMS's, I have this one SMS that I sent on the exact time and date when my nephew was born! I would be stoked to find I have to hard reset my device!
Not to mention the pain in reinstalling everything!
I will update everyone tomorrow morning.
Sorry guys!

I've had this problem aswell, and the only solve I found was to hard reset it. However after that time everytime I did a soft reset I had the same problem..
Untill I reflashed my device.
Hey guys,
Nope didn't work for me! left it for say 4 hours and put the battery back and still the same issue, I since then farewelled my sms's and mms's :'( and hard reseted it.
I think I will just reflash it, and I would guess that yes it may be a rom image issue then, but why now? why not i think 2 months ago when I flashed my rom to windows mobile 6? why did it happen 2 months after?
And also, from what I know about not giving any charge to your device for a certain amount of period, this will cause the device to perform a hard reset as it would not have enough power to maintain the data on the flash storage, correct me if I am wrong though.
Sorry guys, I AM FULLY STOKED! A WORD OF ADVISE GUYS! BACK UP DAILY WITH WHAT EVERY PROGRAM YOU USE!

suddenly rebooting several times...

hi all,
i have my TD2 now for some months and it already happened several times that it reboots automatically. Not just once, but several times in a row and after 4, 5 or more reboots it comes to the screen to input the pin...
I do not know how this is triggered but it is very annoying!
I use WM6.5 and some user programs like TD2 Tools (2d), MobiReg, NaviComputer, KeePass, Free42 Decimal,...
The TD2 Tools info screen gives: ROM 2.16.404., Manila 2.1.19193517.2, OS Kernel version 5.2.21869
Is this problem known to anybody? Looking forward to your advice!
Not sure what the cause could be but a hard reset mey be the only fix.
Hi,
After 13 months, I'm now getting this spontaneous rebooting for about 4 times on the trot. It can happen mid-call or just whilst it's sat syncing with my PC. The reboot always seems to happen about 10 seconds after Sense has started.
I am on Stock WWE HTC 2.53 and Radio as per below. I haven't changed anything recently but this started happening yesterday. I did think it was connected with my SD card but I've swapped it for another good one of different capacity and no go either.
I have also tried a hard reset. This didn't fix it either as the rebooting started again after about 10 mins. All I had done was reached setting up a partnership and syncing.
I'm worried that my hardware may be damaged, though I don't understand how.
Really worried now.
John
PS My Diamond2 has just rebooted 4 times whilst I type this and it's connected via USB.

I'd have to say that if you've hard reset and are on stock ROM, it would definitely indicate a hardware issue, as if something was triggering the soft reset button. Has the device gotten wet or anything?
Thanks for the reply. No not got wet or anything out of the ordinary. It started just last night whilst it had been sat for about 6 hours plugged into the HTC mains charger.
Looking at it more closely, it seems to happen 5 seconds after the data connection comes up. I guess Sense is checking the weather.
It has done 10 reboots now consecutively but every now and then it just seems to behave. This morning it was fine whilst I was out but it has been having rebooting episodes ever since I go home.
Oh well, I'll wait and see for a while and then panic. No money and the warranty won't be much use after a year........ Hmmmmm going to find the paperwork to check what the warranty actually is.

Try removing your cities in your weather tab and maybe play with your network settings in Phone\Menu\Band
Amazing! I was just about to post that switching to GSM only had stopped the rebooting.
This could only be temporary as I use a lot of HSDPA speed data. I decided to reflash the radio and now it seems fine on 3G. I'll keep an eye on it and report back in 24 hours.
I was thinking back to yesterday. There was a time when the wall charger was unplugged from the wall socket before removing the usb connector from my phone. Could that have caused a spike?
Thanks Bruce for taking an interest and the helpful advice.
Cheers
John
PS Cautiously happy now

It is possible but likely that caused a spike. Shouldn't matter which gets plugged in first, USB or charger.
Hopefully the issue is gone now.
Good luck.
Well, sadly, I spoke too soon.
It was fine all last evening with no reboots and frequent use on 3G.
This morning, after a sitting on standby for 9 hours, it started rebooting as soon as I turned it on to check email. Of course this was where it started downloading the weather as well as email etc.
The switch to GSM stopped it rebooting again, so I now need to confirm this is stable over time and then try further combinations of weather on/off and or older radios. Basically, I'll try anything as I have no choice right now and need the phone, email, web and satnav combination.
My wife has offered to sacrifice her shiny new Blackberry but she has finally joined the mobile email/web brigade and I don't want her to go back to a plain GSM phone. Plus, all my windows software would be written off before I'm ready to do that.
I'll report back if the situation improves although I think it's not going to get any better.
John
Just an update in case it helps anyone else.
On GSM with GPRS data I have had no reboots but shortly after switching to 3G, I end up in the reboot loop.
I have tried new ROM, new radio ROM and new T-Mobile settings. Still the same.
I shall now wait out my contract using GSM until December, at least I can use WiFi at home. I'll then change to something new........ Android, WP7 or even Blackberry!
Thanks for the help. 10ish years of MS pda's have been fun and I've enjoyed playing with ROMs and software but maybe it's time to switch.
John
So, you've flashed back to your stock ROM and with nothing else installed, the rebooting still occurs? Is the stcok ROM pulled from HTC via your S/N?
Progress????
Hi Bruce,
Yes, I have downloaded and tried the original 6.5 ROM and Radio from T-Mobile with the same rebooting problem. Furthermore, I tried some other ROMs before reverting back to the HTC 2.53 WWE - all with the rebooting problem on 3G.
HOWEVER, in doing all this, I noticed it rebooted specifically when the weather connected and downloaded an update. This would happen either manually or automatically.
I have now found that turning Weather updates to manual stops the rebooting UNLESS I actually do a manual update and then it will reboot.
Now, for completeness, I have reverted to the T-Mo 6.5 ROM again and proven that the reboot occurs when the weather is updated either automatically or manually.
This is so confusing as I am effectively replacing ALL the software with a new ROM and Radio but this problem now starts to feel like it is software. Does the weather update do something special on 3G? Something that browsing, Google Maps, email, stocks etc doe not do?
Well, at least I now have 3G...... just no Weather............. SOOOO confusing.
Thanks
John
That is strange. Weather would use the same connection type, just hits a different server.
Also, a typical weather error would only cause Manila to restart or fail to load, not the phone itself.
Flashing the stock ROM would initiate an MTTY Task 29 command that would wipe your flash drive eliminating the possiblility of reminence of a previous flash.
This has me baffled as well.
I found a couple of posts from other devices and it appears to be caused by a bad chip...
In my opinion this could be 'the beginning of the end' of the radio chip. My old Mio A701 did almost the same (not reboot but sometimes freeze) and finally it did not recognized any network and any sim-card; several ROMs tested.
Now it stays in my old car for GPS functions.
But maybe you are more lucky than me...

I've found similar on the Desire and HD2 forums too and was wondering if it could be related.
I'm still fine on 3G with no Weather refresh but checked this morning before going out, that actually performing a refresh did still cause a reboot.... and it did.
On arriving at my destination, 20 miles away, I tried the same refresh and it was fine.
At this point, I was starting to think it may be related to location services and my D2 is checking on it's whereabouts (with cell towers, etc) before downloading the local weather.
Interestingly, my home village, where ALL reboots have happened, does have much stronger signal now due to a very recent new cell tower. It was always 3G but now I get all bars all the time and higher bandwidth.
Now just come home, retested and it's fine! Auto Weather updates on 3G, Google Maps, etc...........
I'll keep a watch and let you know what happens next, I'm sure it's only a temporary respite!
Thanks again
John
Almost same problem with mine diamond2. Only most rarely. Sometimes it reboots once in week, sometimes once a day. I couldn't find any situation manually which causes reboot.

Since this episode of getting my Diamond2 back to working on 3G with no reboots and everything switched back on for downloading the weather etc, it has not rebooted once in 10 days.
I'm very happy that it seems to be behaving properly.
Anyway, just a quick update from a now happy again D2 user.
Cheers

[Q] [Help] Has anyone met such auto-restart issue on Omnia7?

I met the auto restart issue by several times on my Omnia7.
It occures sometime on IE and marketplace data loading. When the IE / Marketplace is getting data from web through Wifi / 3G, it hangs for about 2-3 second and then the phone restart / reboot automatically. It's much easier to happen when loading a large size web page in IE.
Does anyone have met this kind of issue or know the reason?
Thanks.

Turn phone off and remove battery for 10s min. Then start the phone again. If problems continue and you have a Samsung or carrier support center near you, make them update the firmware to a new one and see if problem is solved.

Thanks for help. It doen't happen so frequently. I've done phone reset and also flashed it into another rom. But the issue is still there.
I've just update it into the new 7008 OS by Zune software yesterday. Hope it could be resolved.
It happened to me once. Just once. FYI, been using this phone for 2 months and it only happened once
Happens to me sometimes on HD7. Not on the Omnia 7 though
It seems not only IE and market place. I met it again yesterday that one app which uses Map control made it crash with Wifi connection. I think that might be because of some data receiving problem on Wifi part.
I've had this happen once since I had the phone in November last year. It was in marketplace, the phone froze and then rebooted itself. This was last week.
I have not installed the update. Like I say this is the first time it's ever happened.
It is most definitely firmware related.
I sent my phone to repair (SIM card reader broken), and they flashed an unbranded rom on it(that was an unexpected extra) and the JK1 firmware. Now I don't have random restarts anymore.
It happened to me twice Yesterday. My omnia runs the 7008 firmware.
I changed my SIM card and hope the problem will no longer appear.
Do you solve this problem in the meantime?

Your comment makes me believe the problem is SIM-card related. I've heard of phones randomly rebooting by faulty SIM-cards. I know HTC's problem is mostly mainboard related. Sure do hope it's not a hardware failure. I'll try it for another week or so. If it happens again I'll send it for repair.
I have the same problem. I just have a new Omnia 7 from repair, and the new one already rebbot 3 times since yesterday!
Any idea why?
Is your omnia 7 warm? If it's warm, you must to change your CPU, your cpu is overheat.
Problem will go away. It costs about $75.
I suffer reboots
I suffer from the rebooting problem, sometimes randomly reboots when accessing data (3G also). Well, I believe this is when it happens as it happens a lot!
There have been occasions where the phone gets stuck rebooting and sits with the Samsung Omnia 7 splash screen for ages before powering down; or reboots in a loop.
I tried updating the bootloader with Samsungs tool (after putting the phone in download mode), I've since tried flashing different ROMs and non of them have fixed it.
Currently using:
Phone: I8700XXKB3
PDA:I8700XXKB2
CSC:I8700XENJK1
OS Version 7392
It's so frustrating, it's been to a Samsung 'repair centre' but they just seemed to factory reset it and claimed it was fixed. Next step is send it back to Samsung and hope they fix or replace it for me.
VERY annoying as I cannot use the phone at times when I'm out which is worrying.
I was listening to music, browsing facebook and doing several thing at once with case cover on; then i took off phone from cover and it was very hot, so i supposed it was a over heat problem...
it just happened once for me
I tested this with the SIM in my phone and the SIM out of my phone. It made no difference - I received random restarts in both cases.
It's definitely software related though, as I never received these crashes before upgrading to Mango RTM. Not saying it is Mango, but maybe something to do with the firmware installed in the process of upgrading?
I am really hoping that the official Samsung upgrade to Mango includes new firmware and that it fixes the issue. If not I'm getting rid of this phone, I don't want a phone with features I can't even use. I got a full phone crash the other day when just trying to view a map.
I have it also it only happens when I search websites with the Bing search button. I search websites that I already know that exist and even trough the phone is connected (most of time via Wifi) it shows no results and then restarts. I think any ROM replacement will fix it as I have tried them all without success.
Definetly the issue has something to do with Bing services
Hi I had some random reboots but just a few ones like maybe 3 or 4 in 6 months but since I installed Mango beta, it starts to reboot randomly like you on IE or marketplace but removing the battery a few minutes used to fix this.
I thought it was firmware problem so I flashed it with a lot of different firmwares ( now i have KC1 ) but It didn't solve the problem even worst, now my Omnia 7 is stuck in a boot loop.
I suceeded to make it work for a few hours playing games or using bing maps after puting the phone in the fridge for a few minutes. Now the phone wont charge because of bootlooping so even the "fridge fix" doesn't work. Maybe I will try to change the battery but here in france it's really hard to find Omnia 7 stuffs. Maybe its firmware problem because my phone dont look so hot but it acts like overheat problem. Maybe trying to calibrate the temperature sensor by diagnosis if someone knows how to. I'm ok to try it =)
If someone can give us the normal temperature of their omnia 7 maybe we can compare and try to find the solution.
Thanks for reading my bad english ! =D

Phone getting less reliable with time - Just me?

Just a general question, but as time goes on and more updates / firmwares are released is anyone else finding their phone becoming more and more un-usable?
When I first had mine back in November last year it was perfect... no problems at all.
It's slowly got worse and worse to the point where I now have the following problems...
1) Data connection randomly drops needing a soft-reset. (yesterday I had to reset my phone around 5 times - stupidly annoying)
2) In dark condtions photos randomly turn out with coloured horizontal lines across them
3) Battery meter messes itself up after a soft-reset (combined with the need to keep resetting my phone due to the data connection this is massively annoying)
4) My bluetooth used to work fine - Now it will only work reliably if WiFi is turned off.
5) Volume is stupidly quiet now when playing music through an Aux Input.
6) After a soft-reset sometimes the phone just hangs with a black screen showing the battery meter - battery pull then required.
This is just off the top of my head at the moment. I never used to have problems like this. It seems every time I get an updated firmware I get new problems.
I've tried a hard-reset and this hasn't helped.
I love the WP7 software but this phone is beginning to drive me mad, such a shame since hardware wise it is great. I know i'm not alone with feeling Samsung have an ability to mess up the software side of things. Sadly I guess this means I'll look to Nokia next year when I can upgrade.
It's not just you. I wish more people complained to Samsung though, so that maybe we could see some improvement.

Also nice to know you're on Orange UK as i've been offered a warranty replacement for this data connection issue I hadn't yet taken up as i believe it to be software related.
If you're running the latest release of the OS then it may be worth giving it a go.

This NEVER worked. It's bloody pathetic.
Oooh it's like a game. I had a new problem yesterday. Related to my battery meter woes.
Phone had at least 60% charge, it started to think it had none so wouldn't boot up. Just got stuck in a loop of boot up - instantly power off.
I also had problems with WiFi after mango update but after soft reset everything is working fine except sometimes I can`t connect to an open WiFi network.
Anyone noticed the same problem?

Same for me on this one. I'm on my second Omnia 7, which is about to get sent away to be told it's not fixable and be replaced so I'll be on my third phone
Going to get rid of it as soon as possible and get a Lumia 800.
same here...
Im with T-Mobile UK and i have found the same issue...never thought about it until I read your post though.
I too am finding myself resetting my phone more and more often...also another thing I have found is that it doesn't recognise when to switch to WiFi sometimes instead of 3G...i.e. when 3G is non-existent...very annoying I have to go and turn off the data connection to get it work properly...
i've just made some volume changes and I think it has helped with the headphones although it still isn't great...
I however am scared to return the phone as I dropped it in water and got it out very quickly...so it may have triggered the water seal thingy
Im not due an upgrade until Oct 2012....so I might have to just wait it out :s
I'm having trouble too with a 3 Mobile UK, unbranded latest firmware Omnia7.
Little bit temperamental on rare occasions. Like Freypal data doesn't always want to connect and sometimes it is randomly freezing or only showing the topbar with the battery. Need to pull out the battery to sort it.
On a side note, not connecting to WiFi when in a locked state is really annoying. Have to manually check for emails, WhatsApp etc.
No problems at all for me, only problem i have is Podcaast Pro app is likly to craash now and then, but its the devs fault.
Im having a unlocked, German Omnia 7, 16GB version, flashed to the only local ROM in Sweden from 3 and used with the same operator, and its been great ever since. My problem nowadays is i drop my phone often so when the battery falls out i have to restart, coming from 2-3 Omnia 7 its a lovly life to have it functioning normal, great phone.
Well, im a happy camper, but i noticed Omnia 7 generally working worse over time, mostly the first month is the time frame to discover problems, and if you flash a new rom, this can be the case again, one new month before you feel like tearing our hair, and it´s only connectivity issuess. Changing carrier and ROM fixed everything for me, so no matter how great, the carrier do matter in the choise of a Omnia 7, even if you think you fixed it. Dont know if it appy to you guys, but another Omnia 7 working incridble great here. Glossnas update and all, and it cant be found anymore so...im happy, hope you guys get to be that also.
I'm now on my second Omnia after a warranty replacement for the data connection problem.
New phone -
1) It still loses the data connection, although much less frequently than before.
2) Dark photos i think are now working properly
3) Battery meter still messes up. Must be a fault with the battery itself.
4) Touch wood - Bluetooth now seems ok ...
5) Haven't tried auxiliary volume yet
6) Haven't had a problem with it just displaying the status bar after a soft reset, however if the battery is out for any period of time and i boot the phone up. On the first boot data won't work. I need to soft reset it once for it to initiate.
So in summary - New phone, some old problems fixed. Some new ones. Some the same.

Samsung S8+ keeps freezing then restarting [ possible reason ]

Hi all I have a Samsung s8+ on Vodafone UK and have got the same problem as many people out here device freezes and then reboots out of nowhere after reading endless comments on it and not getting anywhere I noticed that my phone freezes and reboots 9 out of 10 times when I'm outside and it's cold now I was wondering if anyone else has found that when there outside and have their device out it does this? Quick example I walked to the gym today which is a 10 min walk and on the way there it did it once then on my way back it did it twice now whilst being at the gym it didn't do it and being back home now for about 3 hours it hasn't happened once. Imo it's the hardware but I want to know if anyone else experienced it in this way or maybe this will trigger a lightbulb moment and we get a solution.
Thanks guys.
Quick edit: I have tried the hard reset, the factory reset, smart switch, got the latest update and device is 3 months old

Because it only seems to happen outside I went from last nights post to this morning without reboot but as soon as I stepped outside within 10 min it happened then I tried replying to this post and it happened again so yeah done this reply twice. I'm currently inside and it hasn't happened. I don't know if it's the battery is being sensitive to temperature changes after the exploding ones but I don't seem to have this problem indoors I was outside for roughly 25 min and it rebooted twice consistent with other times now I have read a comment of a guy describing the same problem and he had his motherboard replaced and the phone seemed to be working fine after that but there has not been an update after that so I'm not sure if that was a long term solution.
