I use the Plantronics M3000 Blue Tooth ear piece.
Recently I have been missing 1/3 calls because the Blue Tooth won't pick them up and if I try to answer them on the XDA it comes up with "Unable to answer the call".
I don't know if this problem is related to the BT device but I certainly didn't encounter it before I started using it.
Any ideas on what's causing the problems and how to resolve it?
Thank you.
Fully charged
First we have to do some error tracking
Is the BT headset fully charged,
Secondly when missing the call was headset bonded
Was Bluetooth enabled on XDA and BT haedset enabled
Then we can go to some more serious problem checking
Fully charged
Very good points. I think fully charged may be an issue, but not always.
I am confident with bonding and connectivity.
Points aside, can't I override the BT connection and just collect the call by pressing <Send> on the XDAII?
yes
Yes you can also accept the calls with the handset green button, and then still press the accept button on your bt headset to transfer to that afterwoods, and vica versa
So back to my original problem
On one out of three occasions I am physically unable to answer my phone with the green <send> button, it displays the message:
"Unable to answer call".
Does anyone know why this message appears? Is there a conflict with my BT earpiece or could there be another issue all together?
Thank you.
What BT headset are you using. I have both the Jabra BT200 & 250 and have had issues with both picking up call from the headset.
I use the same set up Plantronics M3000 and XDA II, I also get this issue.
However, If I don't get to the phone in time (when I don't have the BT headset on) I still get the issue, My guess is that I am trying to accept the call but the caller has ended........
unable to answer incomming calls !!
hi - on my xda 2 i get the same problem and i am not using blue tooth at all - the xda 2 occasionally wil not pick up the incoming call. having read other posts on this site i am under the impression that the phone aspect of the xda 2 is prone to glitches and is a weak point........... further information around this point is sought :?

Me too! Even without BT headset!
XDA2 phone is very poor
Me too, XDA2 phone is rubbish

Very happy with my XDA II and works well with my SE HBH-60 BT headset.
I have had the "unable to answer call" message too. Without a BT headset. I was under the impression I got this message when the call had just switched through to voicemail but the XDAII hadn't noticed yet.

Originally, my opinion was that someone is calling my non-voice number. I have three mobile numbers : for voice, fax and data. I have the fax-number redirected to my mobile box (it's integrated messaging system where voice messages are delivered by mail as WAV files and faxes as PNG files). But the data-number isn't redirected. On my previous GSM phone, when someone called my data number, the message "data call - connect terminal by cable/IrDA" was displayed. So on XDA I thaught that "unable to answer call" message is displayed when someone dialed my data-number. But it wasn't true - he dialed my regular voice number, so it is a real serious bug !
Just to add to the record, I too have the problem of being unable to answer calls sometimes. This does not happen all the time though, every now and then but enough to be irritating. It's possible though I can't say for sure that pressing the 'answer' soft button rather than the green hardware button is more reliable as I've not had that problem with the 'answer' soft button.
maybe some of those issues are a result of some of the more exotic gsm stuff like
I have three mobile numbers

and prepay'd sim and .......
diamondjimxda2, I think your problem could be caused by something else.
I am - like you - with Vodafone - and I also use a BT headset (Jabra 200). Every few times I have the problem that I cannot answer incoming calls - bother with and w/o the headset.
For me it doesn't occur directly after a soft reset, but after a few hours of use. So far my best guess is a relation to some software and I currently suspect Pocket Informant being the source... at lest I noticed a few times that answering a call worked before I opened PI and didn't anymore when it is running.
Not that I now think PI is the problem, but something doesn't quite work together as it should...
By the way: my device information is
ROM version 1.03.00 USA
Radio Version 1.05.14
Ext ROM Version 1.03.43
Voice dialing from bluetooth works fine while my K-Jam is on, but when it goes into standby mode it doesnt work. I press the button on the headset and I get the headset beep indicating it has connected, but I never hear the speed dail beep. If I bring the K-Jam out of standby mode, I can see the speed dial program is on teh screen, but it seems stuck. Maybe any ideas?
Thanks, John
All Wizards suffer from this; currently no known way around it, hopefully a update will cure this issue or someone will find a way.
A little more digging and I have seen where others have tried to find a work around. Here is what I am doing for now. I am turning off automatic standby and using the "device lock" to keep buttons from accidentally being pushed instead of putting it in standby by pushing the power button. I am not sure what the battery usage will be now, but I will test it for awhile and see. By the way, does anyone know how I can assign one of the hard buttons to device lock? Is there an exe somewhere or can someone point me to a registry entry for this?
Thanks
haven't found keylock yet, but found "power off"
may create a short cut in programs?
My Qtek does not have this problem.
I'm using voicedial from my bluetooth headset. It works perfect even when the phone is in standby mode! It wakes up and makes the call perfectly!! I have a Qtek 9100 and a SonyEricsson HBH-662.
same here with my dopod 838 and HBH-662 it seems to work nicely even if the device is in standby. Is this because of the headset?
::adit
No problem here either...
Dutch MDA Vario + HBH-662 headset - works like a charm standby or not.
By the way... why bother installing MS Voice when the Wizard comes with it's own voice dialing utility?

Probably because MS Voice Command is based on speaker independent recognition. So, you don't record a voice tag for the few contacts you dial most often, you just say 'call <contact> at|on mobile|home|work' and it will try and recognise the contact from your entire list.
Also pretty cool for casually pressing the button and asking 'what appointments do I have today' and having the details and locations read out to you...

OEM voicedial does not allow you to dial by digits 5-5-5-1-2-3-4 etc OEM voice dial is limited to voice tags MS Voice Command allows you to dial any contact in you're list also the ability of MS VC to announce upcoming appointments etc.
There are more these are only a few examples.
Can you guys that are able to make BT calls from standbye mode post what rom etc you have installed?
Thanks, John
Question for all you guys with the SE HBH-662 headsets. Does the caller ID on the Headset work? Meaning when you get an incoming call does it scroll the phone number only or does it display the name of the contact (if you have them in your contacts)? And how is the battery life of the headset ? I've got a Motorola HS850 which I love but I'm having the same problem with voice dialling from Standby and am willing to buy another headset if it works.
Thanks.
Hi firas,
Only the number is displayed in a scrolling fashion and it has a good battery life. Highly recommended
I have the HBH-600 but dont think it would work any different with another headset. My K-Jam receives the signal, and beeps, but seems to get stuck after that. When I take it out of standbye after trying it, I see the voice app is open, but seems to be stuck. If another headset will fix the problem, I would gladly buy it.

My HBH-660 does the same thing as your's I may go ahead and get the HBH-662 and try it thogh, if it will fix the issue that would be great.

One method that does work is to use the "redial" function on your headset. On my HS850 it's press and hold the call button. The Wizard _will_ wake up and start dialling your last used number. Just tap the headset button again to cancel the call, and you're ready to use Voicedail.
Initiating a redial then cancelling it to get the phone to wake up is a work around but not a fix. I hope they resolve this or if the HBH-662 does work I wonder what the difference is?

Thanks for your constructive input and for stating the obvious  I was simply correcting your statement that there is "currently no known way around it" which is not true. All it takes is two extra button presses.
Tried my new Wizard last night with my old Plantronics M3000 bluethooth headset, Device was in stanby and when i pressed the button on the headst it woke up and voice dailed no problems.
I am using the standard T- Mobile roms with the MDA Vario as it is only a day old.
Hope this helps

Hi
Try Holding the Green answer button for about three seconds
That should activate the Loudspeaker ...
Radio 1.06.00 is nice as it improves the speakers loudness you mifght want to upgrade your radio stack if you haven't done so yet
I can use the talk button to answer incoming calls on headset. Anybody knows a way to use that button for voice calling etc?
Hello
Just been browsing and I notice you have asked the same question as me, I did not notice it before as I searched for handsfree.
Anyway, what model do you have? I am SPV M600, I only noticed this problem today as I have just installed MP3's onto my SD card. While I had the headphones on I tried handsfree and noticed I could not activate voice dial with the button although I could answer and close calls.
On all of my old phones, I just pressed the button, it activated voice dial and I called the number, but not this phone.
I have set up voice dial on the phone, voice tagged contacts, and it is working great, none are failing to be recognised.
Have you managed to sort out the problem yet?
I called my phone supplier they could not help as they do not have a technical dept, and Orange just wont answer the phone, customer service is dreadful lately.
Dodgy headset ??
I got my SPV M600 today and headset works fine, and the use headset selection under phone settings is greyed out as well
Sorry I replied to the wrong thread. I dont know how to get the voice dial on the headset.

Hi Spenner.
When you say your headset works, does it activate the voice dial software when the silver button is pressed or does it just answer and close calls?
Voice Dial
I think it can be solved with a registry modification. Unfortunately I cannot solve the problem myself. I tried all the properities bu I couldnt find any related one.
My phone is O2 XDA and just like you I only can answer and hang up calls by headset button.
i was asking about how to change behaviour of this button, hovewer nobydy knows
I would like to push it 1,2,3 times or push & hold and assign different actions for different pushes
it all used to work beautifully on my Orange M600. Then I upgraded to the Dopod ROm and the voice speed dialler i gone.
Bloody annoying! Can't work out how to get it back...
Hello all
Can you tell me is your supplied handfree working?
I just installed some mp3's onto a new SD card, while I had the headphones on I thought I would try handsfree, it does not work.
The silver button you press to activate voice dial or answer calls does nothing, and I cannot speak into the microphone, I can only hear calls.
I have voice tabbed my contacts, voice dialing works great on the phone but not the headset. Inside the phone, the phone menu has 'Turn Hands-free On', this is greyed out. Has this feature been removed from the phone?
The phone is Orange SPV M600
Thanks
i find the button on the headset useless. 9 times out of ten it does nothing, then suddently it will end a call or open the voice prompt. I gave up and put it down to a windowsism.
Well, mine can only answer calls, it will not start voice dial and will not open the phone app. No problems with sound or mic.
I use Motorola H350 anyway so it doesn't really bother me.
Thanks
From a lot of Googling I have found nothing official even mentioning the use of the handsfree they advertise and supply. However, it would appear that this phone is only capable of answering and closing calls with handsfree, so not truly handsfree.
You still have to take out your nice new, expensive toy in order to make a call, clearly advertising it to potential muggers. Where I live that is just about everyone you see.
Does seem strange though that cheap old Nokias can do this, but a nice new computerised phone can not. Then again it is Microsoft. I have only had it a week, but already I have found that WM5 is not very backward compatible with software. There are issues with bluetooth headsets (which is why I cancelled an order), and in a week just like old ME, I have lost count of the number Soft Resets that I have had to perform.
I find the most useless feature is the voice dial, you have to open, start, programs, voicedial to make a call or use it. Why not just run the app manually rather than trust voicedial to guess what your after.
Sorry guys but I am not sure what the fuss is about.
I had my phone for a month before getting the BT headset (no problems there by the way) so I assigned the voice speed dial to the comm manager button. Easy and useful and you have the comm manager icon in the today tray so the button is not a major loss.
Now that I have the H350 which is more comfortable than the wired hands-free any way, everything works smoothly but this is with the i-mate ROM. Perhaps your BT troubles are from the Orange ROM?
voice speed used to work.....
I have an H500 headset which used to work splendidly on my Orange M600. The silver button would launch voice dialling and pick up and end calls.
however I upgraded to the Dopod ROm and now it does bugger all! I can hear the calls, but the headset will not launch voice dialling, and all options are greyed out.
Question is, is this feature in the main ROm or the extended part....I have acopy of the Orane extended ROm but can't see anything that looks like the right cab file.
I did not let Dopod customisations run after upgrading, and I really don't want to do a hard reset again!
If anyone knows which file you need to install voice speed dialling I'd be grateful!

The wired headset does not work fully, it can only be used to answer or close calls, it will not initiate voice dialing. I bought a cheap bluetooth headset off of ebay, it paired straight away and initiates voice dialing. I have never been able to get my headet to work, I now just plug it in if I want to play music.
I am not sure about Dopod and Orange ROMs, but in i-mate ROM the speed dial app it self (cyberon voice speed dial) is in the extended ROM while it's settings applet is in ROM.
As for the part that is responsible for answering / ending calls that should be in ROM with any version.
the H500 IS a bluetooth headset- it's a Motorola and wasn't cheap!
It used to work as I say, then I went to the Dopod ROM and now there is no voice speed dialing at all.
I can't seem to find the cyberon cab files anywhere....

Sorry I read too quickly, I originally started this post before I got bluetooth as I could not get the wired set to work.
Hi
From what I had read in the past when I was having problems with my headset, Cyberon's Voice Speed Dial software is embedded in the OS it does not come as a cutomisation. I have just brought mine up and it simply says Cyberon Voice Speed Dial Setting Version 1.1 Build 51212. Copyright (c) 2005 Cyberon Corporation. There is nothing there related to Orange, and I can not find it in any of the Orange Extended ROM CABS.
I guess Microsoft did a deal with them to install it in the Phone Edition of WM5.
