cannot access sms's stored on sim card - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

hi, ever since i bought my qtek 2020, i realize that i cannot access my messages stored on my sim card, unless i put my sim in another phone. in fact, there's no way to know that there are any messages stored on the sim. i have gone through several hard resets, and even a rom upgrade, but problem still persists, please help
mani

i'm pretty sure it's not supported by 2003 phone edition
not sure if they have plans to make support for it ever
not even sure if the ms smartphones support it

well,
then can you suggest a way to transfer them to my qtek 2020 inbox?

well you could put the sim in another phone and forward sms them to your self and recieve them on your xda with the sim in

How to get SMS messages from the SIM card to MDA 2 ?

Hello,
sometimes, in a "rough environment", I use my old Nokia 6110 instead of MDA2. Is there any way how to get the SMS messages received in the Nokia (and supposedly stored on the SIM) from the SIM to the MDA2 ?
Thanks a lot for an advice !!

i've never heard about phones being able to store sms's on the sim
pretty sure that all i've heard about use the phone for that
so if moving the sim from a phone which supposed to support it
and putting in another which also is suppsed to support it would prove if it does or dont
if only one brand of phones support it at all i doubt it's a feature which many people long too much for on the any other brand of phone or pda out there
Rudegar: SIMS normally come with space for up to 20 SMS messages.
Some phones will store them locally, the good-old-fashioned way is SIM based.
xvylp01: The only way that I know to transfer them is via a PC - Nokia
PC Suite to get them there and activesync back again. Of course, they
will then no longer be SMS messaes, but you should be able to save them
as notes, or similar, so that you can access them
Cheers,
Dave.

Need advice: Can't receive calls until I make one myself

Hi
I've been following this forum for a while and you guys seem pretty competent. I believe you are my best shot at fixing my rather serious problem...
I have several simcards, and two of them are showing very weird behavior in my Qtek S100. I am running the latest official ROM for my specific Danish Magician, the MA_DANG_WWE_10600_115_10500_SHIP.exe, downloaded from this site.
When using one of these bad simcards, I can't receive calls until I have made one myself. All incoming call are sent directly to voice mail. Restart the phone and I have to make a call again! Seems to me like my Magician doesn't log fully on to the cellular network?
The rest of the simcards are working fine. The big problem is that one of the card making trouble is the one I am paying $50 on each month
I was under the impression that this problem could be related to some of my simcards being 16K only, so I had one of them replaced today, but still no go. Of course I could have received yet another 'old' card, but what are the odds?
I have done a number of soft/hard resets and ROM/radio up/downgrades, but it doesn't change a thing. Any thoughts? Thanks!

A stupid swapping sims question

OK, I'm aware asking this question on this forum is going to make me look like a right narner, but I have to, because I don't know the answer.
So for the purposes of this post, I am 6 years old.
I bought a pay-as-you-go O2 Nokia phone for times when I don't want to be lugging around the xda. Now. How do I swap the sim card over without losing the settings/data etc? I have FINALLY managed to back up the phone onto my computer using Active Sync, so I can always put stuff back...but that's not the point. I know a lot of people swap sims with other phones, and I'd like to join the club - without having to spend hours at my computer, cursing and trying to get the phone back to how it was before.
Please be nice, I'm very delicate.
Carol
Assuming that all you need is the contact info on the Universal, try going to Sim Manager on the Program menu.
You should be able to see all the contacts. All you need to do is to select all the contacts from there and set them into the Universal.
now I am going to pretend to be 6. A nokia and xda what do they have in common?
Apart from contacts, settings the xda should have. nokia phone should also have if not. then go to nokia web site and settings can be sent over the air to your phone.
how old is nokia.
which xda?
sorry I need some clarification...
I guess you stored your contact/phone book in your SIM card. That might be the best way if you want the same phone book usable in both phones, your Nokia and the Universal.
Universal, however, use the Contacts application that is synced with Outlook. You mentioned you have exported the content of your SIM card phone book into your Contacts, so you should have no problem of moving around your sim card to both phone. You just have to keep track everytime you add a new entry to your Contacts if you would like to use it in other phone as well. Just remember to make sure the same entry exists in both the SIM card and the Contacts.
Other thing that might get stored in your SIM card as well when used in a Nokia phone is your sms. Universal does not store your sms in your SIM card, however.
Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I've got my contacts stored to my sim card, and I've managed (finally!) to back up the data to my computer, but what I'm more concerned about is the basic setup of the xda. As far as I'm aware (correct me if I'm wrong), once you remove the battery, which you have to do to remove the sim, then the xda loses all its memory and effectively reverts to factory status. So every time you replace the sim, you have to go through all the rigmarole of setting the ruddy thing up again.
This is what's putting me off a bit. I can do it, but I don't want to HAVE to do it every time I want to take a smaller phone out with me.
It's the XDA EXEC and just a little Nokia PAG phone I'm using. I have a feeling I'm going to end up not bothering.
Just an FYI, I have the Qtek 9000 and I swap my card out almost everyday.
I never lose the contacts from the sim card.
Once transferred over, they'll still be there if the sim card is not there.
I believe that the Universal has the ability to maintain memory when the battery is out.
In WM5 ( which is on your Universal), ROM memory is used for storing all your settings, data, apps etc. ROM does not need power to retain the data. Removing the battery therefore is no problem, all your settings, data etc will be there. In WM2003 SE, on Magician etc, RAM is used for storing most apps, data and settings. removing the battery is there the same as hard resetting, therefore losing all your data. of course you can swap the sims, because those WM 2003 SE devices have a built-in back-up battery that gives you 30 minutes at least to swap your SIM or find a charger before the juice is all gone and your device is empty (except for the OS, which is stored in ROM).
Conclusion: taking the battery of your Universal will not kill all your date, even if you leave it off for a month.

Weirdest Problem Ever..

I have this weird problem with the JJ. I have 2 SIM's with 2 different Operators. The JJ works just fine with one SIM .....
BUT, when I insert the other SIM, I can make calls normally, but I can receive only ONE call (i mean it, ONE), after that the damn thing won't receive calls anymore! (Like the phone is turned off or unreachable)
After trying to make calls for several times it does work, but again, one incoming call and that's it.
I tried that SIM in the 8800, it works just great.
Anybody has an idea on what's going on?
Thank you guys..
PS! I did post this in another topic, but needed some attnetion from you guys, so posted it in a new topic!
It is SIM free btw ..
Come on guys, 80 views and not a single reply.
I need to you that SIM in the JJ.
Could it work by a Radio upgrade or something?
OK, please tell us which version of ROM and radio stack you have.
Sure,
ROM 1.30.69
Radio 1.09.00
Thank you Richard.
the reason there are 80 reviews and no replies is cause nobody knows.
this is an anomoly, way out in left field, that I have never seen ever in all of the forums.
1. get a new sim card
2. get a new sim supplier
3. stop swapping them, and use the one that works
4. take the phone back under warranty and have them fix it.
Tried a colleagues sim card with the same operator and the same happened.. unfortunately there are no other sim suppliers.
the reason i want to use this sim in the jasjar is that my corporate email doesn't work with the other operator, there is some routing problem to our email server.
but why this sim doesn't work properly while the other does. its really confusing.

Throw this thought in.....
Could some settings relating to the "phone" usage be stored in the universal's registry that conflict with the other SIM card thats being used. Are both cards UMTS?
Matt
Here is a thought, Is the SIM with corporate e-mail the one that is not working? I have a T-mobile account with Blackberry BES and a Cingular account, two different SIM cards. Both work fine but the TMobile card will not work all the time with the blackberry connect software I have loaded up on my Exec. I called TMobile and they reset my "LOCAL Data" from thier switch and now it works fine.
Your carrier may have to reset some things for you to get your card working again. Just give them a ring and ask them to help you sort it out.

No they aren't ... I tried to hard reset the Universal with that SIM installed, nothing changed, still can't receive calls.
And once the problem happens, GPRS won't connect as well..

Already called them, they can do nothing about it, I traced our mail server using their GPRS, it stops some where is London!
I will try to down-grade the Jasjar with the old firmware. It might work :?:
Thanks buddies!
Can the Radio only be downgraded? Or I will have to downgrade the ROM as well?
You can downgrade the radio only, Find the radio you want on the ftp and then upgrade or downgrade just that
Here is what I tried so far..
1) Installing Qtek latest ROM, still didn't work.
2) Downgraded to Radio 1.06.00 and the problem is still there!!
Looks like I will be selling the JASJAR as soon as the P990i is here!
I suspect troubling SIM is UMTS (3G) enabled, AND has poor 3G coverage. JJ sees UMTS and spends its time trying to connect, but can't quite pull it off. I'm battling with this and trawling this board indicates that this is the issue; weak UMTS which you only experience witht he one SIM.

C500 Unable to Send SMS

I recently upgraded my Tytn to a Tytn II and received a new sim with it.
I use my C500 for work (as it gets bashed about) and it worked 100% with the old sim I had.
I tried it with the new sim expecting it to work, everything works except I am unable to send text messages. If I go into phone settings, the SMS center number is blank and if I input the number, it doesn't save. The sim works 100% with the Tytn II.
If I put my old sim in the C500 it doesn't connect to the network as it's been disabled, but the SMS center number IS in the correct box.
Does anyone know of a way to rectify this problem? I've been onto orange tech. support and they were most unhelpful and suggested I use my Tytn II for work, they did try sending sim updates, but that didn't work.
Cheers
Me too...its the bug of WM6
i thought that my network does this sh**....but now!!!!
OK just restart UR phone
It's not WM6, i did have WM2003 but I upgrade to WM5 and Wm6 to see if they would sort it.... it didn't.
I've got onto orange again and they're looking into it apparently.
Did you ever get anywhere with this? I too want to use my old C500 for work but I can't send SMS.
Cheers,
Warey
Yeah, after weeks and weeks of orange trying to sort it there end, they sent me out a new sim card and that sorted it. I did register the new sim in the C500 just incase it was that.
