Is the ActiveSync connection working? You may need to set up a new partnership after the repair.

active sync is running ok but I do get the unable to detect device information pop up prior to active sync starting. I have deleted the partnership and tried again but no luck with the new partnership HELP

Help! at the point of sending back!

Had my XDA Exec for a week now and its great until I try and do any thing computer related.....
only managed to get it to sync once and that was just luck, sometimes even when active sync says not connected I can still explore but wont sync but this happened only a couple of times?
the message says:
CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS SERVIES HAVE FAIL TO START, TRY RESETTING THE MOBILE DEVICE, AND CONNET AGAIN.
which i have done loads of time including hard resets!
I had none of these troubles with my ipaq!
Tried:
uninstalling active sync (NOW 4.1)
turning off firewall
soft resets
hard resets
rom update (luckly done it the one time it did sync)
Calling O2 - dead loss tried to get me to call a premium rate number!!
Tried Microsoft’s sync 4 help page - this is when i got it to work the once, i opened properties in networks and checked and uncheck the box's and just seamed to come to life didn’t change any thing??
Tried it since and nothing happens?? Must have some thing to do with this but no luck so far..............
The second problem is TomTom 5 put on sd card put in xda and and it fires up for one second then nothing? Does the same when I open from PDA?
Ahhhhhhhh! its driving me crazy!!!!
sorry to go on but I desperately need help as don’t want to send it back?
Sorry also am I correct in saying you get a 2 week cooling of period with o2 so could send back with in this time and cancel contract?
@glen
did you try to install the latest 4.1 with the firewall switched-off?
What firewall s/w are you using?
(remember to uninstall all previous versions)
yes already had it running and used with ipaq 2210 and worked spot on!
and as mentioned fire wall is turned off
What firewall(s) are you running? I take it that when you say you switched your firewall off you also mean the WIndows firewall as well? What messages do you get when you plug it in? USB device not recognised or something, or does it not react at all?Have you tried trying to connect through Bluetooth, or by using a different USB port on your PC? If so and it still isn't working, there might be a fault in which case return it!
Fin
Also, sorry if its a silly question, but you have got at least Outlook 2002 on your PC?
pretty sure i have willcheck later? whys that?
It's just that if your device is connected (you can explore it etc) there doesn't appear to be a connection problem, the problem seems to be with synchronization, for which Outlook 2002 (or later) is needed. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I had a similar problem when i tried to sync my Exec to my laptop (which only runs Office 2K) I had to install 2K2 from the disc which came with the Exec and all was fine.
At work I get a similar problem.
When I sync with the PC I need to start outlook first before connecting via usb, or else it comes up with an error and only allows me to explore the device.
At home it seems to work ok.
For me at work I think its down to activesync trying to do its thing before outlook has properly loaded.
i dont think this is the problem as i sure i have the xp pro version but will check when i get home...
but saying that the exec connets fine at work?
but thats windows 2k
On mine here are my observations and what I did:
1) I deleted poutlook.ink from the start up folder. This seem to help and at the same time reduces any notification errors after a soft reset which I noticed occurs if I have either sadaemon.ink and poutlook.ink on the start up folder. As of now I only have handymenu.ink in there, a program that I use to launch some system applications.
2) I also noticed that for my computer to recognize my EXEC, I need to plug it in when it is OFF. If I plug it in when it is ON, I get the message device not recognize. If I forgot and plug my EXEC while it is ON, definitely, the message device not recognize appears, so I just disconnect my EXEC from the USB cable. Then turn my device OFF by pressing the power button and plug it back to the USB cable after 10 seconds.
3) Remember not to connect your EXEC immediately via USB cable if you just closed the screen and assume it is already OFF. You have to make sure your EXEC is OFF by turning it OFF using the power button or at least you have exceeded your set time for device activity while on battery power.
4) If however after all these precautions and I still get that message device not recognize, which I seem to experience 1 in 50 tries. I just disconnect my EXEC from the USB cable, make sure I turn it OFF using the power button and plug it back in.
5) I also ONLY experienced this problem to have occured after I upgraded my radio version to 1.06.00. BUT this is a small price to pay for the added benefit of that upgarde.
With these in mind, I always connect without any problems. The message device not connected, I only experience 1 in 50 tries, so I am happy with that.
checked outlook and i have 2002 sp3, going to try the over thing mentioned
tried all those tips and i still get the same message:
CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS SERVIES HAVE FAIL TO START, TRY RESETTING THE MOBILE DEVICE, AND CONNET AGAIN.
which i have done loads of time including hard resets!
I had none of these troubles with my ipaq!
Is your USB cable plugged directly into your PC? I have had problems syncing before when my device was plugged in through my monitor instead of directly.
Thanks chaps i sorted it at last!!! only took 2 weeks!!!
it was the firewall after all just turning it of was not enough uninstalled it the got norton and set up prop as on microsoft web sight.
job done!
just got to sort tomtom prob now, but brought step by step instrucions of ebay for a fiver!!
looks like a rip of but had bits of the guy before so figures crossed!
if any good ill post up here........

Activesync only sees me as guest

Activesync has been driving me nuts for the past 3 days.
I have been happily syncing my s100 with my desktop for several months, when all of a sudden it is only as Guest. What's most annoying, the help section of AS tells me that as soon as I plug in my device, the Connection Wizard will pop up. Merlin must be on holiday, because nothing turns up on my screen...
I have tried the following:
1. Uninstall - reinstall Activesync (acts the same way)
2. Restore a backup of the device (but Activesync will tell me it cannot complete the operation)
3. The "Get Connected" menu item - usb available, but no device found (then how can it see a "guest"?)
4. Looked helplessly or advice on MS's help topics, with a monumental headache as my only result.
I figure I must have toyed around with the connection settings on the S100 (although my growing suspicion is my brother has, as he intends to get a ppc as well and has been playing with mine to convince himself). I'm hoping the knowledge of the senior members here can help me out - I'd hate to do a hard reset and loose all my sms (about 700 inbox only).
Thanks for any help anybody can give!
C'mon... Nodody has an idea?

If yes, suggest you try registering the MSXML.DLL and MSXML3.DLL. To
register these dlls, do the following:
On your computer, click Start, Run and type:
regsvr32 msxml.dll
You should receive a message stating that the registratoin succeeded.
Repeat the step and register the other dll as well. Type -
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
Restart the computer and attempt to synchronize.

PLEASE HELP - NO GPRS OR ACTIVE SYNC!

Hi
A good few weeks back I had a problem with my wifi card. I own the O2 XDA Mini and the card is an SD one. It had been working fine, then all of a sudden it just stopped working. When I plugged it in, the screen came on but the LED on the card did not light, meaning it is not working.
Anyway, when the card is plugged in, everything freezes. I have been trying to get this sorted with the manufacturer who said hard reset and reinstall with a new driver.
Now, I was going to update my ROM so thought would do it all at the same time. The one thing I also had a problem with was all of a sudden my GPRS as well as my active sync comp connection did not work. Could not connect for unknown reason with GPRS and
"cannot start communications with the desktop computer. remote networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 608).
Please reconnect your device. If the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions provided by the manufacturer" comes up when I try to connect to comp.
Anyway, after the hard reset and ROM update, it worked, GPRS and activesync. Then I tried the new drivers for my wireless card and plugged it in. The same thing happened - screen froze and I lost my GPRS and active sync again!!
Now I have tried everything I know. I have been in contact with XDA but they have not replied yet.
Can anyone please help me as I dont want to do a hard reset again!
PS - I have tried uninstalling WLAN software, but it part fails due to one of the files being in use. I deleted that file manually but still no luck. I thought maybe comms is being taken up by the WLAN card and thats y i have other connection probs???
Thanks

Any update on this....
urgent....
First of all, not being able to find your device is 'normal' ... until you've made an activesync connection, you won't see your device.
Now, for your activesync problem, do you see an error code? Like 80004005 or 80006007?
It's a pretty common problem for activesync, but from my experience it seems to pop its ugly head a lot more often for WM6 devices than the older OS, like the 'tried and tested' WM2003SE platform.
There could be many causes for this. I'd suggest going through the following steps to try to fix it:
1. Disable all the items under Option (calender, contacts, notes, everything) and see if it can be connected via Activesync. If it can't, you're really screwed ... go to step 5
2. Disconnect your phone, and close Outlook on your PC. Now find scanpst.exe on your PC (installed with Outlook) and run it to scan and fix your .pst file.
3. Re-connect your phone, now add the options 1 by 1. I'd start with Notes, then contacts and calender. See if running scanpst.exe fixes the problem. If you're luck, you could be out of the woods by now.
4. If you get the same error after adding a particular item in option, that help you isolate where the problem is. Look at the entries in that item (calender, contact, notes etc) and see if there's anything that casues the problem. Relocate the items if necessary and add them 1 by 1.
5. If everything fails, or if you don't even care about the programs you've installed on the phone, just do a hard-reset (hold down green + red button at the same time, poke the reset button while still holding down the buttons, and press "select" when the messge appears on screen) and connect the phone to the PC and see if it syncs. If your phone can't even sync fresh after a hard-reset, send the phone back for repair.
I know from my experience, moving the contacts and adding them 1 by 1 got me out of the woods 1 time, and the other time I had to do a hard-reset ... good thing I backup my device weekly.
Good luck!
My bet is that you have a bad USB cable.
I have definitely seen the exact error messages and problems you describe with a HTC Universal.

Hi number 16,
Could you tell me where exactly are located the *pst. files? When I try to run scanpst.exe, it tells me to browse to the respective file, but I can't find it.
Thanks a lot.
The .pst file is the Outlook data file. Close outlook first, and right click on the icon to go to "Properties". From there you can see the location of your current .pst file location.

Hi number16
Thanks for your suggestions but I had already tried steps #1 to # 4. After that I had deleted all the relationship.
Now at present I don’t have any relationship for my device to PC.(When I had plug-in my device and tried to sync through ActiveSyc 4.5 it will show me Guest or new name for relationship.)
On some different forum they have some kind of problem there it was suggested to delete the Windows/ Temp folders files so that it will resolve the above problem.
Any think else you would like to suggest.
Hope somebody help me..

Have you *tried* another USB cable?
(I know, I know... but a cable that fails to sync can transmit data, I have seen this - it is strange but true).
Also
you may inadvertently have disabled a network connection on your PC. If you connect you should see a network icon showing like it is trying to obtain an ip address. If you disable that by accident it can also prevent connections but I still think you should try a new cable then check your network connections

Hey Sandi!
Have you tried unchecking the option under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC ?
Also, have you looked the pins of the miniUSB port? Are they in good shape?

Thanks for your reply.
well I had checked below things.
under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC = checked status.
I had took new *** USB Cable*** and tried to reconect but it won;t work out.
now I am worried I am unable to syn my device to my PC.
Uregent help required.

1. Try:
Under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC = UNCHECKED status.
2. So you've tried a new cable and nothing changed! But I told you about the miniUSB port in your phone! Do you see any broken, twisted pins in there? I'm telling you this because I had my phone's pins broken and I have no connectivity via usb anymore!
Regards!
One final thought
Hi Saisan
I would counsel that you should try another PC first.
Next step:
Unplug your device...
Uninstall Activesync, remove the registry keys for the program and reboot. Download the latest release of ActiveSync and install that.
I would also suggest you could do worse than enable "SHOW_HIDDEN_DEVICES" in device manager and remove all greyed out items under USB in device manager (WITH YOUR DEVICE NOT ATTACHED) then reboot and reconnect your device.
Failing that you probably have either a connectivity issue (physical cables or connectors) or you have a logical connection issue (I think there is a possiblity that you have inadvertantly disabled a network connection).
When you connect a WM6 device it creates a new network connection which generally appears in the system tray. If you disable this (right click disable) active sync will stop working.
If you go into your network connections folder and re-enable any items that are disabled it should work. PROVIDED YOU HAVE TURNED OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL FIRST...
It does sound like a physical cable or connection problem though.
Hope that helps

Hi leon
Thanks for your advice. but I had tried this think already.
I had reinstalled Activesync 4.5 on new machine and tried to get sync.
I think there were some logical connection issue on which I am unable to create the relationship with my device from PC.
I had also tried to delete all the pervious relationship's and reconnected the same.
On some other forum it was suggested to delete the files from Windows/Temp directory from Device. but in HTC Touch when I connect the device it will automatically start activesync and it was connected but not sync.
shows message:
error: "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect

Hi Sandi,
Have you found a solution yet?
I've been facing the same problem for sometime now. Additionally, all files on my touch have become read-only. I can't copy, move or delete any files on the phone.

[Q] ActiveSync problem.

Hi everybody,
please I need help.
Today when I tried to sync my device with my notebook i have got a problem. The device connected, then a long long time there was the status " Looking for changes". After this long time I got the status "Synchronization error". After this it seems the device is synchronizing. I can not understand this. I have nothing changed or installed on my device.
I tried to reinstall the ActiveSync but it did not help, the same happened after soft reset.
Thanks for advices!!!

Which Windows Version are you running? XP or Vista? I use Vista and sometimes I have the same problem, which is usually solved by restarting the computer and connecting again. If that does no do the trick, try a different USB port.
regards, Kuzibri
If I am understanding you correctly, this has happened to me before. The sync error would occur when I had "documents" checked as an item to sync. Unchecked it, and did not get the error again. Could be one of the other items syncing causing the problem, though.

ive had issues in the past with sync. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with Outlook 2010. Most of my issues would stem from me doing flashes on the phone and not ending my past partnership on the phone.
If possible try ending your partnership with the phone and setting up a new one. Make sure your Outlook is working if you use it. I was having a few issues with my Outlook not opening and I would get sync errors because more than one instance of Outlook was running. I would goto task manager and shut them all down and re-start Outlook and the sync would work. In other cases I would just re-start my system.
If your having problems with your phone not being recognized on your system maybe you should goto the device manager and uninstall the HTC Phone from the list and let it re-install the drivers.
You might also have some luck installing the Active Sync drivers for the MTTY flash. You can find them by searching on here.
Not sure what else could be the problem....corrupt registry entries? dont know!
I'm getting a similar problem. My HD2 connects fine if I select Disk Drive option. But if I select the sync option the phone does not recognise. The phone also recharges through usb cable as well no problems.
When I check the Device Manager I find a MS Win Mobile Remote Adapter shows following error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Also occasionally get a small popup window that says Error with an OK button and nothing else.
Any help would be good.
Thanks
first disable the "Enable faster data synchronization" in connection options, as described here - it could help,
if not, you could try the steps described here, usually it works for me
