Hi,
Anyone know how to repair a deep small scratch on an XDA2? Would a CD scratch repair kit work?
If you get a decent screen protecter fitted you wont notice the scratch.
The problem is that it's deep, even with the screen on, you can see it and it actually distorts the image under the scratch
My problem is that my screen is "consumed"..
When there is a sunlight or good light source I can see the consumed parts of the screen where I most type with stylus(when appear the virtual keyboard)
This because I never applied a protection screen.
So,guys there is a metod to solve these consumed parts? (how suggested someone past, using CD repairing kit?
or I just have to replace the Touchscreen one day...?
..I say one day because it isn't really relevant..for now..Also I don't think to apply a screen protector until solve this problem,or replace screen..because I don't find that really necessary if it still consumed.
Waiting for your suggestions,thanx
Ser
The method CD repair kits work is usually by "polishing" the surface of the CD thus the surface is leveled to the depth of the scratch.
In order to do that, you actually place the CD in a kind of polisher that spins the CD against an abrassive surface.
I don't think you can practically do that with the screen of the XDA and never the less, you would actually like to "polish" your touch screen.
Another idea might be to wax&polish it with some very gentle car wax (be careful not to spill any wax into the unit).
hmmm...lol!
I think I keep it as it is for the moment!

I will post my problem with the Himalaya XDA-II, wishing from the experts and colleagues to help me find a solution , since I live in a very bad country that provides ZERO maintenance, so I wish I find the cure in this awesome forum.
My story started when 2 drops of Tea, was spit on the LCD of the XDA-II, after which I tried to clean it, but in a very strange way the liquid went beneath the LCD and its protecting plastic screen, The factory one not an additional one like by Covertec or else.
I managed to open it and also using a cutter I opened the plastic seal and cleaned, after I put everything together and after using blower to dry and remains of the liquid, and when I fixed it back, I had the common (Align Screen), but when I configure the screen using the 5 points for setting up the display, it Just LOOPS and does not want to exit from this screen, I made this alignment like 30 times now but went all in vain, and I cant access the system, its locked to this screen, and when I touch in any place over the screen, the cursor move from one corner to another.
I tried to install (Pocket Controller 4.12 - Enterprise) so that I use its Built-In Task Manager, to close the (Align Screen) Task but also in vain.
When finally went to the dealer he told me I have to change the LCD with a new one which costs 300 $, which equals to the price of a used XDA-II. Is this fair?
This is my story wishing really from all of my heart that somebody helps me. And I'll never forget this favor ever.
Thanx
Willy
Although not an XDA specialist, the calibration should follow the standard way.
The device starts and looks for calibration data in [HKLM]\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH. If it is not there, the calibration screen will show. There is another file \Welcome.net, which will control, wether you have to make the Dr. Johnson Test.
My idea now is, that you create the calibration data automatically, so the device will overcome the calibration screen. As I dont have the normal calibration data, I can only provide dummy data.
Beside this, the calib screen will not accept your calibration, if the taps are outside a maximum tolerance.
Enclosed is a tool called NoWelcome.exe, copy this with the name AutoRun.exe into the dir 2577 of a memory card and insert the card before or after you switch on the device.
I hope, that will you get further
Josef
Be aware, if the touch screen is misaligned, you will have problems hitting anything.

Interesting utility from Hjgode! But in this case I think the touch screen is out of order. Even you can bypass the welcome screen you can no longer use this touch screen for interacting with the device.
There are 2 parts in a LCD Screen: a display screen and a touch one. You can safely disassemble these two parts, clean them and assemble them to use again. But there are still 2 parts in a Touchscreen: a plastic sheet and a glass one. I am in doubt if you can use them again once you seperate them out.
Of course 300$ for a LCD Screen is too expensive! Any way, in this case you have to change only the touch sceen but not the whole screen and it usually costs less than 100$.
I dropped my JAM and now my screen is cracked. I want to replace it but don't know how. Has anyone done this before?
I'm doing it, ten times a week... fortunately, those PDA are not mine . What are you interesting in?
So, if you see black spots on image, or no image at all - you have broken LCD, so, you need spare display assembly. If your image is clear, but you see crack on glass and system does not recognize your taps properly - you need only touchscreen to replace - it's much cheaper, however, you need some soldering experience to do it successfuly.
Please note, there are two different kind of displays on Magician. To recognize, you need to open your PDA and see label on the back of display (not a PDA case).
Then you can order right part and when it will arrive - open your PDA, disconnect and remove display and then change touchscreen, or whole display assembly.
It's not a rocket science, however, if you are not experienced with electronic devices at all, it's better to find a buddy, who is more experienced and can do a repair.
Yeah, from your description, it looks like I need to replace the touch screen. Are there different types of touch screens? Anyway, I've soldered before (but a long long time ago). I'm sure I can pick it up again, but I guess I just want to know what tools I need. Do I need to buy a?:
soldering iron
solder
special screw driver to open JAM
etc.?
resently my phone happened to be found in a little container filled with beer loong story on how it happened but it did,,,,
after taking phone appart, cleaning, reassembling.... it works
with exseption of screen we get a lil problem here:
- screen doesnt turn on at all
- if tap phone on one side the screen flickers white or shows the today screen (dialer or program folder if it is open ) for a split moment
i think i need to replace the LCD Screen... or can it be something else?
my question is where can i buy one?
thanks
PS: the only other option is saving for xperia
most likely
It is probably the flex cable that runs from the mother board to the lcd, fairly easy to replace.
you can get them off of eBay cheap.
you might want to take it apart again first and re-clean with a tooth brush and some alcohol (rubbing not beer), be sure and disconnect the flex from the lcd and be sure to allow all parts to dry before reassembling.
Ok so I've had a TD2 for 8 months now.
Had it is a soft rubber case for all its life. But my touch screen has started doing funny things. When I try to scroll the screen jumps back to the previous position and when I try and click on a button it doesn't recognize it.
Then I had a look at the So I thought it was the protective layer on the screen so I removed it only to find that the there is a thin line of oily like fluid under the glass of my phone. I think this is screen delamination.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?
Know how criminal the Cell companies are in my country this will never be under warranty.
Does any have any thoughts for me. I'm going to try take it back. Though I have hardSPL the phone.. so not sure what the right steps are to change it back.
hello.
yesterday i ripped off genuine protective layer too. when tried to scroll, had strange reaction- view jumped in oposite to scroll direction. after longer inspection, under protection film, discovered ?condensated? water, so ripped shield and reattached again. worked for few minutes, and after needed to repeat same procedure again. after few rippofs- edges of film doesn't cling any more, so i trow out this film. without film device works very well, and now i think about:
1. buy cheap protective films in 10-20 packs;
2. buy expensive/very strong protection film (do not remember name, know from advertisement- usa military uses)
3. do not use protection at all.
For weak or two, i'll try working without protection. Working with stylus ~3 hours per day (usualy reading books), without stylus (answering call's, copying files, chating, browsing internet, etc), keeping in pocket without keys .
today discovered that same splashes of liquid without protective film. they where smaller and disapeared when i slightly squized phone sides.
You all have collapsed your screen.
The oily film under the screen is referred to as newton rings.
Search for "Topaz screen replacement".
A quick fix is to stick duct tape to it and try to seperate the layers.
If you have HSPL and wish to return it under warranty, you must flash your original ROM then flash stock SPL, however they will not cover the screen and will charge you for the repair anyway.
Thanks Guys
Well I took it in ... and we'll see.
Just a little bummed I really looked after that phone well... little too expensive to replace every 8 months...
Anyway
Hi,
I recently changed the glass on my s4 the repair seemed sucessfull as the screen did turn on and the touch was responsive however 24 hours later the screen has gone blank but the touch is still responsive as you can hear sounds when you touch the screen. There are no visible cracks.
The method i used was a seperating machine and attached the glass with loca glue. So what can have gone wrong. Advise would be apreciated and is there anyway to get the display back on.

The glue you used could have been too liquidy and caused a short circuit. If that happened it's fried.
It's also possible that the connecting cable that powers the screen simple came loose because it wasn't put in properly. That is what you should hope for because it's a quick and easy fix.
If heat was involved in the separation or gluing process it could have damaged something that took a full day to finally fail as well.
It could just be a coincidence that it failed right after you changed the glass, but I would put that in the "Highly unlikely" category.
Your best bet is to take the unit apart and see if anything looks physically wrong. Start there.
Most likely it has shortened as i have replaced with new screen and it works. How can i stop the screen shortening again if i do a glass replacement. And is there no possible way to recover the shortened screen.

There are probably no ways to restore a screen that has shorted out. Electronics do not mix when with electrical shorts. It tends to fry things beyond repair.
