Which update for business user is best..?

Hi,
I'm successfully using an unlocked UK o2 xda in South Africa (GSM and GPRS work fine). My xda is on ROM 3.02.00 ENG, RSU 4.01. I see that o2 has new updates out on http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgradedownload/0,,170,00.html which is ROM 3.14.13, RSU 4.16 (boasting 33% faster GPRS, etc) I have read through this forum to try and ascertain which of the numerous updates out there is best for me.. I see though that the o2 update is prone to signal related problems, which is bad for me as I use my xda as a business tool. Are there any recommendations or comments?
Thank you!
Hello Jus
How did you manage to update the ROM and upon upgrade did you have to make any specific country or Network settings?
Dont upgrade the GSM ROM. highly probable that the phone wont connect to the network.

help with o2 xda

dear sirs ...
hello and happy holidays .. first id like to say ive found your site to be packed with more information that ive found anywhere .. although i cant understand it all technically ... i do believe you guys could at least point me in the right direction ... so heres the deal ... i bought an O2 xda new/used on e bay ... unknown to me the seller was in singapore .. hence the device is searching for a range of networks to connect to for telephone service .. however t mobile is not listed as a service provider on the list .. (perhaps this means the phone is locked?) after contacting t mobile .. and then siemens and then finding your site .. ive come to hypothesize that the xda is running on software not compatible here in the US ..
my info ..
rom version: 3.14.17 ENG
rom date: 10/11/02
radio version : 4.17
protocol version: 32S54
also i found from you site that the xda phone is 900/1800 ..
and that t mobile is 900/1900 .. and if i understand correctly you say the new t mobile software will burn up the xda ..
luckily the updated software that i did download and attempt to open (as siemens tech support suggested) did not work at all .. and i am happy that it didnt .. as it may have broke the phone ... anyways any advice would be greatly appreciated .. thanks and keep up the good work ..

Radio stack from the special edition ROM with PPC2003 ?

Hi,
With my default configuration XDA (I have an XDA from Rogers, with I guess the same default configuration as the AT&T version), it was hard for me to maintain a conversation in my appartment if I was not just beside a window, and even then, my correspondants were complaining about interruption in the communication .
This winter I installed the Special Edition Rom available from this forum and noticed instantaneously a better radio reception. I can walk around everywhere and the sound was neat and clear everywhere .
At the beginning of February I installed PPC2003. I would like to keep with PPC2003 specially because of the Voice Command I installed and, even if I have to speak in a funny way (I'm French-Canadian and I have to pronounce French names with an american accent) I found it useful in the car. But the counterpart is that now the communication level is back where it was with the original configuration :? .
So my question is: can I install the Radio Stack from the Special Edition ROM with the PPC2003 ? If yes, how ?
Thank you !
Bernard
I dont think the special edition rom included radio stack upgrade. I may be wrong.

Could it then be the default configurations proposed by the Rom ? When I installed it, my provider was not in the list of the proposed providers for the auto-config. I do not remember which one I used, but as I stated in the previous e-mail, the result was terrific !
I am not really aware how this stack is working or can be configured. If you have suggestions of things to try, or places to look for, I'll appreciate !
Bernard
As the previous poster said, there is no radio stack with the developers rom, why dont you reinstall the developers rom, take a note of all the settings, then install WM2003 and reinstate those settings to WM2003. I once tried saving my setting in the permanent save options using the developer rom, but when I installed WM2003 there was no option to restore it.

Ok, I'll do it. Just a dummy question: where do I look for this kind of information ? Through the bootloader ? How do I see it ?
Thanks for your help

Radio version
 I am on T-Mobil USA and I did upgrade to AT&T 2003 .
I did not installed Radio version from AT&T . I had 6.21.00 .
After that (shame on me) I installed Radio 6.24.00 . I lost my GPRS .
I can use only internet2.voicestream.com and wap.voicestream.com ,
which is just a WAP versions . I cannot use my MS Messenger and
is the biggest problem , couse I have business on eBay . So ...
I took the AT&T upgrade , reeped off the the radio stuck A.33.02
(4 files) and install them on device .After that I am having much much better signal , but still I have no HTML version or HTML Radio , whatever you call that . My MS Messenger is DEAD . So what is your suggestion :
Keep looking for the Radio 6.24.01 , which I cannot find standalone
version . Or return to 6.21.00 (if you know where , please give me the link to download ) :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

GSM module hangs. Is it normal-please advise me.

I have XDA with ROM 4.00.11 ENG and Radio 4.21.00. Problem is : GSM module hangs so heavily that I have to cold-reset my device. This is very oppressive especially when I have set software.
I need some advice please.
RSU 4.21 is known to have many issues as you can read in this forum ... if you are using 900/1800 MHz, it's good to switch to RSU 3.25 from Carrier Devices.
If you are not ready to give up your xda ... I strongly advice you to get it flashed by a repair center ... RSU flashing is very dangrous even tho it worked for many people here!!
One last note, better to check with your operator if they can advice on a specific RSU version
Where I can download this RSU up/downgrade software ?
Where I can download this RSU up/downgrade software ?
Here is the file ... do this action on your own responsibility!!!
...done.
well see if it works good. need couple of days. I had before also 3.23.00 and 3.23.11 - both of them sucked. Signal was very weak (according to indicator on top of the screen). Now i see quite good coverage indication. Thanxx a lot.
BTW - I was in Cairo. Enormous ....

I have the Offical O2 (UK) PPC 2003 (4.01.12 ENG) Rom!!!

I have just got my xda back from being fixed by O2 and they seem to have upgraded my rom.
Before I sent the xda to them the rom was simply the latest ppc2002 rom from their website.
However now everything has changed and my rom version is 4.01.12 ENG
This seems to be an official release form O2 as I have their auto configuration and boot screen.
My bootloader has also been upgraded to V5.22.
I have backed up the rom using XDATools and hope to upload it to the site although its approx 31mb.
This seems to be all official and what everyone has been waiting for however if i've completly missed the point please let me know (politely please )
As an added note I have two broken xda's for sale: -
1) A 64mb XDA with the above rom installed. The screen is smashed, and will need replacing, or you could just use the motherboard in another xda. The unit does not charge for some reason, possibly the fuse which is a simple enough fix.
2) A 32mb XDA with the above rom installed. The screen is intact, however will most of the time it will only display lines, you can get a screen sometimes but this is very rare. It must be possible to fix this, but its way beyond me. Again the motherboard has been tested in my other xda.
Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to make me a serious offer.
Thanks
Martin.
So how do the rest of us get it. Do we have to send our XDA's back to O2?
So did you uploaded the ROM yet? can you provide us a link? thanks

great !
it IS real  thanks Martin
how on earth we only found out right now ?
any insiders ? is it gonna be official or it's an old tryout from O2 ?
It HAS wmodem but I connect through Irda (i have no serial on my notebook).
Can someone try and confirm that it works on Irda on Windows XP
Steps for using wmodem:
1. install ircomm2k from http://www.ircomm2k.de/english
2. add a new modem (manual selection Standard 32600 bps) on the new com installed by ircomm2k
3. add to AT commands AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","apn","",0,0
4. create a new DUN with the number at *99#
5. use if there is any username/password
Mine works fine but I cannot connect. It does communicate and ends on "verifying password" step.
Any help ?

Normally this should happen Automaticly, since the CallerID.CAB fiel is int eh startup directory....
But it's a nice trick to get it working...
[edit]
Soory, forgotten to mention, that this ROM is now available in the Kitchen. I also tried to get the Autoconfigration working. Cooking went fine, but i didn't have the possibility to test it.
So fell free and test this ROM with Autoconfiguration......
