BT connection speed! - Networking

Looking at sites on bluetooth devices it shows the connection speeds at 750KBs. Is that bits or bytes? and why does the xda2 not connect at speeds like that. I thought USB activesync was slow and then i found BT to be twice as slow if not 3 times!
Anyone know the data transfer speeds through USB - XDA2

internet on laptop via wi-fi from the universal

i do not want buy a 3g data card for the laptop is it possble to feed the laptop
through wi-fi or with a cable from 3g universal
I dont think you can do it by wifi but you can connect the 2 devices by wifi no issue. I tnihk the same applies to the cable either USB or LAN. However you can by bluetooth. All you need to do is set up the exec to be discoverable and get the lap top to look for bluetooth devices and explore the services on them. You will them see the bluetooth modem. Then all you need to do is to create a link to your mobile operators gprs or 3g internet connection in the usual way. You will need to download the setup specific for your network.
Good luck
Also remeber to up the speed from the default as this assumesgprs and you have afaster connection with 3g.
If you do not have bluetooth on your laptop just buy a BT dongle for about £15 then you are away.

An XDA as a router! Wonder if MS will make a version of the Internet Connection Sharing Wizzard for WM5! LOL
I can see the use but not someone actually making it.
There is a thread on this somewhere.
I connect my universal to my laptop via the sync cable and then the laptop uses the universal as a modem and connects to teh web at 3g speed. The universal comes with wireless modem, you just have to play around to get the drivers on the laptop to see the universal when you plug in.
works well.

Internet speed as a laptop Modem

been playing with the vario 2 for few days now, and im very impressed, had a mda pro previous to that. I have web n walk pro, on the phone i get upto 1.2MB internet speed which is what i expect dure to HSDPA, but when i connect the phone to laptop as amodem via usb or blueetoth i get 364KB (the 3G speed).
Why is there a difference in speed? maybe im doing something wrong.
any help would be much appreciated.
Ok, you need to edit the modem within networking in windows(on your pc). You can change the connect speed from a pull down box.
Don't forget that the Bluetooth connection itself is going to slow you down... and even if you have a Bluetooth 2.0 card, the TyTN does not support EDR...
As such, I'd be very surprised if you got any faster than you're already seeing...
I'm sure that as soon as somebody figures out how to make it work, a tethered USB connection will be faster than a Bluetooth one... but this is still not possible...
Try Tethered USB. It's much faster and allows for your full speed. Check the Wiki FAQ. There's instructions there.
Has someone done a usb dial-up connection or usb wireless-modem connection with TyTN? My TyTN reachs 1.5-1.6 Mbps but when a set a dial-up bluetooth connection it only reachs 300 Kbps (with online speed tests). And i cant plug it as wireless usb modem (nothing happens in any of my computers). Some idea?
Thanks
since the TyTN does not support EDR, it's speed is limited, so your getting the max out of BT DUN. Instructions for the USB DUN are included on your CD that came with your device and it has the proper drivers in there. The files (Instructions + Driver) can be also downloaded here:

repeating....
Has someone done a USB dial-up connection or USB wireless-modem connection with TyTN? (not with htc universal or other. I say with TyNT)
Thanks

Using your phone as a wireless (wifi) adapter for your PC?

Hey guys, i was wondering if windows mobile 6 could connect your phone through wifi, and then share that wifi connection with your PC? 3g is pretty slow in my area, and we dont get the broadband service installed in our new apartment for another week or so. However, i can connect my phone to a few wireless networks that are close by. It would be nice if i could share that wifi connection with my PC, so i wouldnt have to deal with the crappy 3g here. Essentially I want to use my phone as a wireless adapter, then sharing that connection to my PC through BT or USB. The internet share in WM6 only alows for you to select your GPRS internet connection to share. An update/fix/or 3rd party app that could do what i want would rock.Thnks.
Using your phone as a wireless (wifi) adapter for your PC
Best option, wireless network card. they are cheap and alot better

would prob be alot less hassel to just buy an usb wifi card they are pretty cheap

Internet fast on PDA, slow on computer

Hi,
I have att 8525 and when I connect it to the computer and do internet sharing my max speed is about 260kbps. If I browse internet on PDA the speed is about 700 kbps. What could be the reason for slower internet on PC? I use both USB cable and Bluetooth PAN with the same results...
How do you measure the speed?
Try WiFi sharing - Bluetooth and/or cable can be limiting you.

Bluetooth PAN really slow

Hello,
I have HTC Touch Diamond, changed from Nokia N95. I have a problem
with Bluetooth PAN connection from Mac OS 10.5.4. It works, but it is
really slow. I have HSDPA icon on phone while connected. I've tried
tcpdump to see, if there is no software accessing the Internet. I have
installed iStat Pro and see, that on en4 interface (which is my bluetooth
device), I never do more than 4-5kB/s (that is 40Kbps) of download. I
have unlimited plan and using Nokia N95, I was able to download in megabits
per second (using the same notebook and SIM card). My signal is quite strong.
It seems, that using Internet directly from Touch Diamond (not via notebook)
is much faster, but I don't know how to measure that.
I've tried lowering MTU on the interface, but this did not help. Any
idea what could be wrong?
Thanks,
Juraj.
How did you configure BT PAN on the HTC?
Thanks
Internet Sharing app allows you to create a bluetooth PAN network.
There is a known issue with the MacBook Pro / MacBook air and bluetooth PAN with windows mobile. It suffers a latency issue.
If you ping a site such as www.google.com continuously you will notice that the response time will vary wildly.....if it is the same issue.
There is no fix as I understand. I use a VMware fusion virtual machine and connect via a USB cable. I cannot provide internet connectivity to the Mac without using wifi router which drains the battery at an alarming rate (even when charging off the machine!)
Cheers
Aidan
