Hey guys, i was wondering if windows mobile 6 could connect your phone through wifi, and then share that wifi connection with your PC? 3g is pretty slow in my area, and we dont get the broadband service installed in our new apartment for another week or so. However, i can connect my phone to a few wireless networks that are close by. It would be nice if i could share that wifi connection with my PC, so i wouldnt have to deal with the crappy 3g here. Essentially I want to use my phone as a wireless adapter, then sharing that connection to my PC through BT or USB. The internet share in WM6 only alows for you to select your GPRS internet connection to share. An update/fix/or 3rd party app that could do what i want would rock.Thnks.
Using your phone as a wireless (wifi) adapter for your PC

i do not want buy a 3g data card for the laptop is it possble to feed the laptop
through wi-fi or with a cable from 3g universal
I dont think you can do it by wifi but you can connect the 2 devices by wifi no issue. I tnihk the same applies to the cable either USB or LAN. However you can by bluetooth. All you need to do is set up the exec to be discoverable and get the lap top to look for bluetooth devices and explore the services on them. You will them see the bluetooth modem. Then all you need to do is to create a link to your mobile operators gprs or 3g internet connection in the usual way. You will need to download the setup specific for your network.
Good luck
Also remeber to up the speed from the default as this assumesgprs and you have afaster connection with 3g.
If you do not have bluetooth on your laptop just buy a BT dongle for about £15 then you are away.

An XDA as a router! Wonder if MS will make a version of the Internet Connection Sharing Wizzard for WM5! LOL
I can see the use but not someone actually making it.
There is a thread on this somewhere.
I connect my universal to my laptop via the sync cable and then the laptop uses the universal as a modem and connects to teh web at 3g speed. The universal comes with wireless modem, you just have to play around to get the drivers on the laptop to see the universal when you plug in.
works well.

Hi All, i'm not sure if this has been mentioned on this forum or if it is even possible, but is it possible to use the wizard's wifi capability's on the pc as a wifi network adapter? I would love it if I could connect my wizard, via usb, to my pc, and use it as a wifi adapter to connect to my router? Thanks!
Possible solution...
I think you can. If you have activesync installed, you can connect your ppc to your laptop/desktop and specify that you can use the desktop's internet connection ("This computer is connected to: Automatic/Work Network/The Internet"). If your laptop has a wifi connection to your router, then you're all set!
Hope this helps!

The thing is that I would like to use the wizard as my wifi connection for my laptop. My laptop does not have built in wireless, so instead of buying a wireless card for my laptop, I would like to use the wizard's built in wifi as a replacement, sorta like a wifi card for my laptop.
in theory it sounds like a good idea, and might even work-- i would like to know how to do this just in case i ever need it.
but in your case, you might want to look at mpci/cardbus wifi adapters, get a good mpci card if your laptop supports it.
i have a intel centrino branded card that came with my dell 600m, i noticed a couple pulls on ebay just like it last week for about $25?
and on the upper hand, if you ever need to break into some locked networks, backtrax2 supports that card fully.
If i connect to the internet via WiFi on my HTC touch HD is this free? does it come out of my allowence (orange)? sorry im not up on all this tech.
thanks
Paul.
wifi is the same deal as if you connect your phone to your computer or network using usb or bluetooth
you can even remove the sim
your isp will never know when you're connected and transfering data over wifi
wifi is 100% the same thing as wired ethernet LAN networks just without the wires
Not sure how USB 3G dongles work or are setup, so I was wondering if it's possible to get one & be able to use my phone's existing 3G contract through one of them.
At the moment I have to plug my phone into my laptop & use internet connection sharing, but would rather be able to use a usb dongle for the simplicity.
From what i understand, 3G USB dongles connect directly to your network and therefore supply direct communication between your laptop and the network.
There is no need then to connect the dongle to your mobile and hence use the mobile to connect to the network.
I am not aware that they have any method of connecting to another, 3rd party network connection.
The simplicity is, that the dongle is plugged in, connects to the network and then you can surf. The downside i suppose is that you need another contract of some kind.
If you must use your mobiles connection, why not try bluetooth, i guess would be neater than cables.
Well I wondered if the usb dongles are using similar settings to what contract mobile phone does. And if so is it possible to use your mobile phone's sim in them to make them work?
I tried the bluetooth & it didn't seem to work, but then if it did, it would be draining my battery on my phone even faster.
My PC's wireless card has broke. I would like to connect the HTC to the PC via USB and use internet connection sharing, to share the phone's WiFi connection. NOT 3G.
The option isnt there to share the wireless connection, only the 3g, which I dont want to do as it's expensive. There is wireless in my home.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Try this: http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ it may help.
Same question, is there a freeware solution?
Try Android with Tethering
