Using the Qtek 2020 as a voice-recorder. - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
Does anyone know how much memory I need to record 1 hour of speech in the best quality ?
I would like tu use the Qtek for recording meetings - it's much easier to tape it than to take notes

Dear,
My rough calculation says it'd take around 620 MB to record a meeting of 1 hour long (at 712kb/sec), I suggest go you to setting->input-> option, and select the recording option that is a little inferior in quality.
HTH
Ken

Thx, I am a complete newbee: I am expecting my 2020 thursday or friday...
Can't wait !!!

You could also use other software to record those sessions but basically yes you need to tune the settings so that you will have enough space

Cant record you conversation because hardware limit. You can only record when you turn loud spearker on but quality is very low
check this out - works great on windows mobile smartphone, but i haven't checked how good or bad the pocket pc version is:

IDEA - Use bluetooth
I understand that that there is a hardware limitation to record both parties during a phone call (probably the manner the sound is routed).
However, maybe the following idea could work:
Use the bluetooth inteface (handset service) to do the same job. I assume that any program could have access to the data that are send to the handset. Maybe, with the proper software or drivers, one could for instance save the bluetooth binary stream on the ram/rom and convert it later on to an audible format (I do not propose decoding on the fly since this might be too much for the processor)..
What do you think?
Regards
Evans
It's a good idea! But you must have "Windows CE programing skill" to do that. Ask some software company, may be they will help Us.
Evans_Prophet: you might want to do a bit more reading on the board. We've had discussions about this before - Mamaich informed us that the bluetooth audio path is hardwired and is independant of the OS.

people try it out and make it work.I trying to keep posting reply to keep it on top of the recent activity so that more & more people . see it and try it out and atleast we can use it as wm5 pda in our free time . and bluetooth and radio will also work.let's hope so . i cannot afford to spend another around $800 dollars(inr 32-35000) for a while and there will be lot more people like me there are hordes of people who are still with magician .otherwise wm2003 se provides everything . persistent storage is useful, push mail is overhyped I wonder if somebody would miss anything if they direct email client to check email on their own on their pop3 account every minutes . I do it with flexmail 2007 trial and phone alarm trial cuts in automatic 3 minutes

C'Mon people once the most and still most beautiful PDA phone because the prophet and hermes( with lot of buzz because of umts, hsdpa, ) still continue on the same design lines. The phone which which made ladies at home also taking kindly to the PDAs phone and which stopped making people feel embarrased about holding the brick to their ear and talking , IS IN SERIOUS NEED of attention for it's survival trying to get to WM5 and there is possibility now , a real possibility .

keep the post up!! I'm downloading the ROM file right now: but from the size I can presume that it will be a CE rom only..
but 262k colors.. hmm.. will it be fully compatible?? :?
Im in, been trying to find a way to load the rom on the magician, no luck till now. I´ve seen acer uses flash.dio file but the magician doesnt. Also looked at the file and compared it with the nk.nbf and and nk.nb1 file in hexedit, cant seem to find a way to boot the magician with this rom. Hope u guys having better luck.
Did anyone ever get this file and if yes can they upload it to the FTP here?
http://dl2.it168.com/smart/rom/e850/060811.rar
This file was supposed to have an executable for transfering flash.dio
There are enough differences in this hardware (the e850) that it doesn't seem likely to work? If anyone actually got it going can they post pictures.
MiniSD - so I'm guessing the JAM SD will not work, (different driver)
Xscale - cpu is running slower, either lower bus or cpu multiplier, (overclocking might fix that)
Colors - since the LCD can do 262K this might actually work!

I'm downloading it right now!! I use shareaza.. lol but is an incredibly slow connection (5KB/s) 8) I will post on ftp as soon as I get it, maybe tomorrow..

Qtek 9100 newbie questions

Hi Guys, I've used PDAs for years and just moved up from an Orange SPV-C500 to the Qtek 9100 so I'm fairly familiar for the general working environment but new to this device. I'd appreciate some advice or help with the following:
1) Can you set up the 9100 to lock itself with a button combination or do you have to go via the touchscreen every time.
--> Edit: Found Matt Armstrong's DeviceLock app (http://www.mr2-power.com/downloads/DeviceLock.CAB) and mapped it to the voice record button.
2) I have managed to freeze the Qtek a few times while exploring its features and probably by loading too much up at once but the issue here is that occationally when I push the reset switch it powers up again with the backlight off - is this a known issue and is there a quick way of turning it on (button presses?) rather than having to squint at the display while holding it near to a desk lamp!?
3) I've used Resco Audio Recorder on my PDA (iPAQ 4155) with no problems but recording on the Qtek is jumpy and the elapsed time counter takes about 1.5 seconds to clock up every second - anyone else seeing this kind of behaviour? Is the processor just not up to it?
-->> Edit: Dropping down to 8KHz sampling didn't make a lot of difference but switching to Resco's .raf format produces decent recordings with the realtime clock ticking over at the correct rate.
4) Can you replace the standard 'phone' app with a third party one? If so, what's available.
Thanks
Linker3000
3,. depends what format you use in Resco AR. IN general, it won't be able to record correctly into Speex and almost surely into Ogg when not overclocked. Are you using one of these two formats?

Nope - using the deault which is 11KHz, 16-bit, 96Kbps MP3. I'll have a play with the settings and see what happens.

Well, RAF is far less storage-friendly than, say, MP3. You may want to consider sticking to, say, NoteM if you want both quality and not very space-consuming recordings.
Please also see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/112005SoundRecorderApps.asp for more info on all these q's.

it records the two sides of the speaker is on
yea but thats not very clear.
try Resco audio recoder
Resco audio recorder records just about everything, it also has an option to record your calls as they are made, and save them to a folder you specify, it's automatic after that, all calls will be recorded and dated, only thing it misses is logging the phone numbers, hope that helps

Sorry to disappoint you but probably about 90% of HTC devices aren't capable of recording both side of a call unless you use loud speaker. I've tried many voice recording programs if not all of them on my kaiser without any positive results. Apparently it is a hardware limitation as well as one ofthe WM flaws. There was plenty threads on the subject just use search if you want to find out more.
maybe you could run 2 recorders at the same time, one recording from the mic (input) and the other recording from what the speaker hears (output) and then stitch them together using some audio editing tool. I'm sure there is a way to write a program that does all of this automatically on your device, your battery would just run out a lot faster.
who speak that A PHONE was not MADE to record call because HARDWARE THINGS. Is little wrong.
If HTC or any other device can not to record a call, its more because PROGRAM than HARDWARE.
Its just simple, if it is a HARDWARE THING. Standard programs that use AUDIO FILTERS OR LAYERS can not work.
Iam using WOW HD SETTIngs and when i change any seting this change to in phone . so this mean a FILTER can be between the original call and what we can listen, If i can change this so its possible to remap or intercept the audio to. ( HTC UNIVERSAL)
If we don't have Programs that do it its more because be hard to program a filter to each device.
In last CASE we still have Bluettoth , if someone REALLY WANT do a kind or program to record ( i mean loose time doing this). Can use a BT remap layer to a local program, instead a OUTSIDE DEVICE.
I am sure there gotta be some kind of hack to the phone reg. maybe that will allow us to record both sides because once i installed a ROM to my phone i forgot which one it was but i was able to Listen to songs while i was talking on the phone so i am sure that is possible to be done.
Please somebody try to figure it out
PM Recorder does record both side.. it even records bluetooth conversation.. i have owned many wm devices and the last three(benq p51, i780, omnia) i have used all able to record phone conversation using PM recorder.. the only drawback is the format it is saved in.. only the program can play it..

vito can make all your jobs - BUT WITHOUT RECORDING the caller's point of view.
these record is only which you hear from speaker to micro -> so that is very noisly - or you can set that the call will be made on speaker, but this is not what you want
i'm playing with pda's the last 10 years - and there is no solution for it.
there is no solution for recording both side from the call !!!

of course from the technical point of view -> this is possible, but nowbody have develope a tool and the api from MS is not opensource

Not true ... I did managed to get it to work on my ASUS P525 (WM5) using Resco Audio Recorder but not on my TyTnII.
As far as I know, this is illegal in some countries. I looked into a similar program a while back and recording conversations (without the other party knowing up front) is criminal in the U.S.
It's a cool concept and I know it's possible. I got it working once, but for the life of me I can't remember what I used. Beware of the legal issues and good luck getting it to work if you decide to.
it can be done

I have recorded both sides of a call using the notes record featur. I have a tmo wing and I have no idea what rom i was using seems it changes every week.

So, if this is TRUE. All nokia with SYBIAN and sony phones i already have in my life are under law.
The only plataform didnt record PHONE CALL is WM and HIGHT TECHS ONES LIKE WM.
The low END phones and SYMBIAN this is a trivial thing.
Iam just looking my sony w300 and t610 here ( 10y old phones?). and they do it, well a lot..
yea my friend has a Nokia phone and he can record both sides AND he lives in the USA.
anyways i tried the vito note but when i have it on recording, I cant make a call or hear anything until i stop the recording.
Also when i am already on the call, Vito does not start the recording why?
By the way i heared that it is possible to record while you are talking on Bluetooth but you need audio gateway driver or something like that ..
ANY IDEAS???????
yes it would be amazing if we could get what seems to be such a simple feature such as call recording on our expensive phones....
even 10 year old phones have this feature... so sad that our phones can do so much yet not this simple little thing.

Feedback about X10 after buying it recently ... what is missing from the X10??

Here is my story with X10 after 1 day of usage.
Since this is the first time to me to use the Android system, so I noticed that it is (from the interface side) a mix between iPhone and WM but it is much better faster and stable.
Network Reception ... Perfect
GPS reception ... Perfect
OS ... Perfect
Phone Dialer ... Similar to the iPhone one
Messaging ... Similar to the WM one
Browser ... Perfect in English sites not the Arabic one
Arabic support ... Very Poor (supposed to be supported in next Update 2.1)
Navigation program ... perfect as a 30 days trials and the 12 month upgrade will cost me 70Euro (costly some how but i will buy it as there is no alternative).
Android Market ... Medium in terms of paid programs (as Document2Go) and Perfect for the free programs (when Google will be able to give us access to the paid market).
Camera ... File size and quality is more than perfect but I've noticed that the image contrast is very High and I couldn't adjust it and there is a problem in the flash must be activated from the advanced menu every time i want to use it (stupid).
Exchange program ... Very powerful since it is for free (Roadsync which is a paid program is VERY powerful than the stock one). The problem is that i cannot set a frequent Sync other than push (which consume the battery to the maximum).
Battery life ... After 12 hours extensive usage there are 37% remaining power in the battery (which is good since i used a lot today , GPS, Camera, WEB, Exchange, messaging and Market).
Build quality ... So Far So Good
This is my initial feedback and will be followed by another feedback soon...
So guys, let us discuss here what is missing from our phone and what should SE consider in the next update
Second feedback after using it for almost a week now
I bought this phone since 7 days now and please find below my feedback:
 Battery life ... at the end of the day there are 33% remaining (after using Web, Lot of SMS, minimum 3 hours of calling, 3G network and WIFI)
 Camera ... Very good snapper my only problem is in the Flash and sometime the image stabilization doesn't work properly
 Touch Sensitivity ... Excellent
 Network Reception ... Excellent
 Market ... need badly to have access to the Paid section in the Market
 Dialer ... Having a smart dialer will be a good option
 Missing Video Call ... Since Fring used the back camera in performing Video calls over Skype and MSN why SE can't use it too to perform Video Calls over 3G network?

hi
for navigation you could use googlemaps navigation feature
and for full market in your region you could try downloading the market.apk and installing or you could debrand the phone so it has a different regions software on
only thing missing from the x10 for me is flash. everything else is great for what i need
from when i played with it, i say it could of been better...just overall
I'm not going to harp on about MT because I know that will never be possible, but I will say its missed.
However after months of regular use, here's my list.
*the phone application could do with larger buttons
* flash in browser. Would have been perfect for the world cup whilst at work!
* better access to the latest OS releases.
* improved copy and paste method
*better cursor control for text input (can be addressed by HTC keyboard)
* automatic flash (will be addressed by later Android versions)
* louder in call volume
* Playlist creator (can be addressed by using default music player)
* improved zooming method
* more code support I.e divx and mkv
720p recording will be a bonus if executed well. (unlike face recognition)
Best thing about this device for me is the screen size for browsing.

Couldn't agree more.. I took that for granted on the Hero!
I must admit i also found ending a call more complicated than it should have been, especially with the dialpad draw open. In the end I often waited for the person on the other end to hangup!
However I saw on a post on this forum that said that the power button can be used to end the call. Although it's not ideally placed to end a call, I find it much easier than sliding the dialer down and hitting the software end call key.
Just thought I'd share.

but this is true, you will have to hit the power key in order to end incoming call. nothing else can be configured (except a developer develop a program to change the assigned setting for the hardware keys )

Dears,
I've posted today my second feedback about the mobile, please check Post # 2
I don't tend to use the dialler, unless I'm calling someone whose number isn't in my phonebook... I have the phonebook app on my action buttons (ADW Launcher) and go into that.. then long press on the contact and select the correct calling option from there.... probably quickest method of calling someone on any phone I've ever had.
