I recently got hold of a disabled XDA and since then i have been reading your board intensively.
The unit boots. And i get a T-mobile -test- display. In the lower right hand corner there is a number like 4.21xxxx. After a few seconds in the same corner i get some more data. From there the unit does nothing.
As far as i know the walliby works fine. i can read/write to SD and i can also get the testing mode. All works fime except for the touching display.
If i use the stylus it does not respond, if i use my finger the "+" moves to the corners of the display.
What to do next? :
should i flash my rom to the original O2 settings
should i dive into the T-mobile reset as descibed in this board.
If a hard reset will solve it then fine ... or you will have to flash the ROM since the boot loader is still functioning
Thanks
Thank you, but how do i do a hard reset.
I know how to do the soft reset. putting the stylus in the hole with the on key pressed down.
Rien
in the buttom of the xda1 there is a small hole where you put in the stylus to do a softreset
on the other side of the connector there is another hole and some picture of a batt or something
that hole is used for hardreset
if you want to know more
stuff like this is all over hte manual

hi i recently switched on my phone witch worked perfectly ok before i switched it of and left it with my brother.........now when i switch it on and after a bit of fiddleing with the buttons i cant get it to boot up. all it will say is
"Wallaby
bootloader
v5.15 "
when switched on.
When i hit the contact button up the top right hand side
it displays a white screen which has "utilities" on it
When i hit the notes button up the top left hand side
it displays a white screen which has "Flash tools" on it
then it freezes
Whats wrong with it
[/b]
Normaly you enter the bootloader by pressing the power button and sticking in the little hole on the other site than the headset (soft reset).
Since your just pressing the power button, i would say the problem is the soft reset button. Lokks like it doesnt release correctly try sticking in the hole and get it off....

It sounds as if the soft reset switch is jammed in, try operating it/jiggling with stylus a few times or maybe a tiny aquirt of switch gear or wd 40.
found out from him that he was goimg to surprse..........that he did his surprise was to upgrade it for me, so he had tried to do this......i think he has overwritten the rom....can this be,,,,,,and if so how do i get this fixed
Hi, a helpfull friend has set the WM5 password to strong alphanumeric and has forgotten it,or just wont tell me what it is. Can anyone tell me, how can I get around this to get MDA Vario working again?
Many thanks
I think a hard reset may fix.
But I am not to sure.
I have tried that, device is still coming up with password request.
All I can think of is flashing it with a new ROM but if it goes bad it could kill the device and I am not sure it would remove it but in theory it should. Other members may have some hacks to fix it.
A hard reset will definitely remove the password, maybe you are just soft resetting the device.
I have tried as says in manual many times, it comes back up with the password screen every time.
I can only try it with MDA:
Turned off
Turned on with password screen illuminated
Manual says:
88 Managing Your MDA Vario
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the Comm Manager button and Voice Command button on
the device.
2. Keep the two buttons pressed, and at the same time, use the stylus to lightly
press and hold the RESET button.
RESET button
Voice Command button
Comm Manager button
I have tried it with MDA:
turned off
turned on showing password screen
Sounds like you are doing the reset wrong....
Hard resets are awkward - hold in the two top side buttons, press the reset and keep holding the top two buttons after you have removed the stylus from the reset hole. About four seconds should do it.
Hope that helps.
you'll know if you got it because you'll get a black screen with white lettering that says "press send to format" or the like
otherwise its just a soft reset. On an older ipaq I had, if I had a password it would ask on teh PC everytime I synched. This was with PPC 2003. I'm not sure if you'll still have a problem when you try to sync your data though.
Good luck.
Bilbo_28 & others - You were right, I was not doing a hard reset properly and getting only the soft reset.
It seems after doing it a few times, that the hard reset instructions in the manual should read something like:
hold in the two top side buttons, both the send and receive buttons leds should come on and stay lit.
Insert the stylus in the reset hole and observe both send and receive buttons extinguish
remove the stylus from the reset hole and keep holding the two top side buttons until:
The screen goes black and the following message appears:
Press send to restore
factory default,
Other keys to quit
Release the top two side buttons
Then press SEND to restore factory default
or press any other key to abort hard reset
I think an e-mail to T-Mobile telling them to update the manual would not go amiss !!
Many thanks for your assistance.
Thankz man
hey thankz man really got a great relief
Wow. I was doing the hard reset wrong. I had the same password problem. But now its stuck on the "align screen" menu wth? It moves the cursor around the screen and yet it comes back to the menu. I've run through it at least 10 times now
Not sure what happened, woke up this morning and my screen just decided to stop working. If I press REALLY hard, sometimes it will work, but I'm pressing to the point that I fear I'm going to stick the stylus right through the screen.
Any idea what could be causing this? There doesn't seem to be any noticeable damage or anything, the phone hasn't gotten wet.
Thanks in advance.
Can you get to the screen that will let you realign it?
Heh if he cant touch it how is he supposed to align it. Perhaps a hard reset, Mabey a program on the phone is doing something. Like touch-flo or sumthing if u installed it. U can do a reset by holding the 2 softkeys and pressing the reset hole with your stylus on the bottom of the phone near the memory card.
Hi folks.
There are two ways to hard reset the X1.
First way - Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage then enter the number 1234 and press Yes.
Second way - Press and hold the two silver keys (left and right) situated just below the screen. Now insert the stylus pen into the tiny hole which is situated around the bottom right of the back of the device for 5 seconds. Follow the on screen instructions.
It is advisable to back up your data before performing a hard reset.
FYI - a soft reset can be performed by ONLY inserting the stylus pen into the tiny hole for 5 seconds.
Thankyou mate, been looking for the tiny hole without success
Thought it was missing.
Very nice! Thanks for the info.
For those who can't find the tiny hole, you have to remove the battery cover.
Sorry forgot to mention that you have to remove the battery cover. Also the hole is situated where the stylus pen sits. So you have to remove the stylus pen in order to use the hole.
Thanks tjex for pointing it out.
Do you have to have a full battery before performing a hard reset?

No. Hardreset takes 5 seconds. But don't have your battery almost totally drained

You follow the the line where the stylus is inserted. Form bottom to top, you will encounter a rectangle, then the MicroSD slot, another rectangle and finally a round hole. This is it.
SOLVED:
in seconds
Power off you X1.
Hold down the two "Soft" keys and turn power back on to your X1..
Release the two key....
You should see the white screen with blue text asking if you want to restore to the "factory" default setting....Press "r"
Click to collapse
Phew...
Needed the second option, as loaded some software on and it conflicted with some other that was on there - oh well bit of a spring clean as well!
Also might be worth pointing out that you need to enter the commands using the keyboard for the second option - me being a plank was hitting the X-panel button for ages before I realised what it was asking!!!
Well, there would be much less confusion if you said that you have to take battery lid out
How someone can not know about the reset hole is beyond me. I noticed in shop, before I actually bought the device.

It was mentioned on the 2nd or 3rd post
There's the hole location.
thanks alot
Nice. thanhk Bro
You can also hard reset using Power button instead of reset button under( :-/ ) the battery cover.
Just turn off your phone, and press and hold both softkeys (silver ones) and just press the power button (do not hold it)
Strangely, when you want to access bootloader you hold the power button with volume down button until the bootloader appears.
Sorry, but I hardresetted it but nothing happens after the SE logo came and went away. I only got a black screen, someone help me please.
EDIT: Nevermind, got it. Had to wait some minutes
any other option to do it? i try both way, but can't... pls help...
I think you have to let go of either the power button or the hole button (depending on which method you're trying) before you let go of the two face buttons.
Thanks to every bodies. I have practised the soft and hard resets. The tiny hole is really not tiny but was hard to find.
Once again thanks!
Hello everyone, I recently got a Titan, and was installing programs on it, and one of the Programs I installed deleted everything, and somehow deleted my password, so now I can't use my titan at all. I've searched the forum on how to Hard Reset it, but haven't had any luck.
How do I hard reset my Titan?
hold down the two soft keys (Claendar & Contacts) and then reset.
Keep holding the solf keys down until the reset screen appears.
Then just follow the on screen instructions.
More important, what program did you install so we can all avoid it?
The program was GSlide - http://freewareppc.com/utilities/gslide.shtml.
are there any keys in particular? I've tried resetting it and holding a variety of pairs of buttons with no luck, or will it take several minutes for the Screen to appear?
[EDIT]
It just hit me that all the paper manuals are from my service provider, that's why they're all useless, and the actual manual was electronic. I just looked up Hard Reset, and it said very specifically for a hard reset you hold the left and right Softkeys (The two with only a single dot on them)
Problem fixed Thanks
Regarding GSlide
Hi
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I am the author of GSlide. I just want to point out that GSlide should risk free as it actually does not install on your phone. The odds that your device hangs permanently because of GSlide is very unlikely.
The standard implementation of GSlide is a file explorer and as such it is of course sensitive to user actions.
thanks
Lars
hold the 2 buttons with dots under the screen, then with the stylus poke the small hole on the bottom of the phone to reset it, hold the 2 buttons till the screen comes on.
