make sure the ActiveSync is not running.
Use Settings/Memory/Running Programs to check
and then stop Active Sync
I had the same problem and this solved it for me...

it sounds like you havent got the GPS component of tom tom 3 installed, if you go into remove programs, check that you can see tom tom GPS

I have installed Tom Tom 3 software on my XDA 2 and it "freezes" during navigation for no apparent reason. It also crashes the nav software when the phone has an incoming call. Have spoken to both 02 and Tom Tom who both blame each other (no change there then) have updated software from both and completley cleared software with a hard reboot and re-installed Tom Tom to no avail.
Any ideas???
Which type of gps are you using, what are your gps settings, are you using bluetooth tools, are you using the latest gps driver from www.tomtom.com, does it crash only on incoming call. :?:
Are you using the Traffic plug-in? that's really buggy and works poorly - used to crash mine regularly (xda II w/ bluetooth)
I am now using for 4 days the 1.72 ROM (incl the essential Extended Rom stuff). I bonded my BT GPS, it configured automatically COM5.
Since then I occasionally have freezes in the TomTom navigator (TTN & TTGPS 3.03): Navigation screen seems to 'hang'. I am able to tap the screen though and exit TomTom the official way. When I restart TTN it works again until the next unpredictable freeze.
No direct link to the Phone application.
Beforehand I used the 1.72 ROM with some 1.60.36 T-Mobile customizations (incl. some bluetooth stuf in OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB ). At first this gave some trouble, but after fiddling around (install Pocket Bluetools & de-installed it) I managed to connect my BT GPS using 'Bluetooth GPS' in TomTom3 and it all worked like a charm. Only setback was that I could not approach my Bt GPS via a COM port. (And I want that to occasionally enable/disable WAAS/EGNOS)
Any clues???
any body use the tomtom BT gps on the jam? any problem?
cheers
I use it with my bluetooth GPS (v 3.07)... No problem

how do you get tom tom working ?
it keeps telling me to instal maps, wich i already did
Did you use official map installs or warez?
the map that comes with the tom tom software, you first install the navigator app and then you can install maps, then i install the netherlands and want to start tom tom on my mda and it says that i should install maps from the cd first
I had this, I think it happened because I installed everything at once without clicking the "ok" buttons on the PDA after each app installed (i.e it installs about 5 things, tom tom nav, tom tom gps, tom tom wizard, tom tom maps etc). If you dont click ok after each one it can get confused and not install the map.
Uninstall the map using activesync add/remove, then re-install it from the cd, making sure to click ok on the pda if it asks you.
If that doesnt work uninstall the whole lot using activesync, soft reset, then install from scratch but make sure to keep an eye for ok buttons on the pda while installing.
Also make sure you have enough memory, the maps are big (16mb, 32mb, 64mb and 128mb...dont know how big the netherlands one is).
Jez.
well its working now i think it was because the memory card i installed it on was not empty, i used an empty card now and everything is working
I cannot get it to install completely, as soon as i click on install it finds my JAM and an error message appears saying something about "File hierarchy" and tomtom support say that JAM is not a compatible phone for the navigator system. Can anyone help
anybody try the tomtom BT GPS?
works good for me with tomtom3 and blue tooth tomtom GPS.
first i had problem to install but it was because i use a USB hub.tomtom need a direct connection to install (there is a faq on TomTom site).
after to connect the bluetooth GPS ,you open Tom tom navigator , you ve got to go on the icone GPs state, then in Gps Folder choose "TomTom Wireless GPS" in the first window and "Bluetooth GPS" in the second.
good luck...

Your freezing problem is prob because of your choice of memory cards, certain cards work well some not @ all, lotsa threads about this.
yeah i just found that out i have a peak ultra 60x high speed 1gb sd and a 256mb simpletech one the simpletech one works great but yet the 1gb one freezes
I am using the TomTom BT GPS w/ my Jam too.
But I am not using the Tomtom software (since I found Routis V2 is much better for voice prompt and routing in US). I don't even need to install the GPS driver. Just pair it once and it will connect eveytime I open up my GPS software.
Four things about Tom Tom on JAM:
1. It seems to be equally as buggy as the rest of the JAM so no knowing when wierd stuff happens whether or not it is TomTom or the JAM or something else. That said when you do get it going, it does work nicely most of the time. Some intermittent weird behaviour:
- sometimes won't change maps
- keeps turning JAM back on when I turn it off. Have to close TT3 to get it to stop.
- without a power source, screen keeps going dark
- occassional BT issues
2. When TomTom doesn't see the maps at all but you know you've installed them, make sure you haven't deleted a file in the root of your SD card called "ignore_my_docs" which is a zero byte file that is hidden. This caused me a bit of pain for a while.
3. Because of my previous issue, I discovered when I emailed TomTom support that TomTom doesn't in fact support this release on the Magician and won't help you if you tell them that is what you have. So if you do need support make sure you give them the name of a device that they do support.
4. TT3 user interface leaves a lot to be desire IMHO, and the one thing that drives me nuts is that I have this SD card full of wonderful maps that I have paid for yet I can't simply type in an address just to look at the map, I have to pretend to make a journey, connect the GPS, blah, blah, blah. The only way around this I found is that if you keep address information in your contacts, you can select the "Show TomTom map" option.
I've TT3 3.07 on my magician with an adapt bt gps and it works fine. You do have to shut down the application as stated above, the device will keep switching on if you don't. But one problem is irritating: I live in Belgium where there is a general speed limit of 120 Km/h. I set the prefs so that the safe speed warns me showing no map but only arrows. If I drive too fast for a while the QTek S100 switches off and sometimes back on if I slow down under 120 Km/h. I didn't have this prob on my other, wired, device.
Hi there i wonder if anybody can help! Could someone please talk me through the process of installing Tom Tom 5 please (ie do i have to install the maps first or mess around with my settings first etc..?). The Version worked perfectly on my old XDA11, but upon trying to install from my PC Hardrive it just stops. As it just keeps aborting at set up with a Microsoft Problem (Debug / Don't Send). .
Please help as i'm desperate to try out wireless GPS!
Many thanks
Regards
Daddy

Why not select "Other NMEA GPS Device, Baud 9600, and select the inbuilt GPS unit the device is equipped with it, it should be on Com4 - Mike
I'm trying to install tomtom on my diamond. I've copied the program onto my phone and while running the .exe application it asks to select a GPS device. It has four option .... "Bluetooth reciever","tomtom bluetooth", "some wirless reciever", "one other one" it doesnt have an internal gps. I've tried all these and none seem to work, they all say no gps found.

I think that a diamond (because it's a VGA display) needs a recent'ish version of tom tom, so maybe your fault is caused by trying to install tom tom 5 or 6.
Try "searching" the forum as I'm sure a cab of a diamond working tom tom is posted a few times in a few threads & the maps you obviously need to buy/ purchase on your own.
Hope this helps
im using tomtom6 it works fine on the htc touch. when setting it up it asks to select your gps receiver, it has other NMEA GPS receiver, tomtom bluetooth gps receiver, tomtom wired gps reciever, other bluetooth gps receiver, now which one do i choose and can you give me a set by set process of setting it up from here. The first fix can take up to 5 minutes to be found or even longer from what I've heard. Leave your phone on a good location (outside) for a while and be patient.

It wouldn't say 'No gps device' but 'waiting for a valid GPS signal'.
PS. If you still can't get it to work, check if any other programs using GPS are running in background.
tomtom gps
select other gps and the normally port 4 it will start searching for gps signal, ensure the icon in top right corner is rotating, also go out doors and it start picking up a few satelites, and bingo!!!
UK & Dutch users wondering why the postcode finder only uses the first digits and then needs a manual street entry should see

d/l the file and put the whole zip folder into the root of internal storage, and it all works properly
Ok, really newbie here and portuguese. Search already for my doubts, but no concrete answer. Have a htc nike aka touch dual and would like to install gps on it. At least the program itself, cause read already that probably have to buy an external bluetooth device to capture the sattelites signal. Questions: 1- Is it possible? 2- Have preference on tom tom. Which version (cracked one)? 3- Tried to install tom tom navigator 7.916.9189 (qvga black), but when i connect to tom tom home it doesn't detect the phone or the software(tom tom). Anybody knows why? Oh, by the way, i also did the same operation with a polaris 200 aka Xda Orbit 2 and everything is running wonderful. Thanx.
Try another version of TomTom
Install gpsgate. Simple as that. The software cost money but the trial version should have all the feature you need.
I can install and run garmin app in my device. It have to attach to external gps to connect to satellite, without it, we still can routing our trip, but we must follow the route manually. With this app, I can find my way home everytime i go out there..
Sorry for my bad english, just want to share my exp..
