AvantGo - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I have had a serious problem with my XDA II. I had to make a hard reset.
I have a problem with AvantGo. Because I am registered to 8 channels, but on my PPC I have only 4 channels...
What should I do?

Newer version ActiveSync 4.1? Fact or Fiction?

Hi all. Heard there's a newer version of ActiveSync on another thread. namely Activesync 4.1. Can anyone give any feedback confirming this (although I think it's still in Beta stage). If so, isn't it worth a try given the problems encountered on the Universal using just Activesync 4.0.
Someone must know!
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28535
Well I have it installed and I don't see anything different. Probably bug fixes. Won't harm to upgrade.
i have 4.1 running, dont know if its connected to the activesync on universal always restarting but i can only sync with pc if i have the universal powered off, then when plugging it in i see the orange power led kick in, 10secs ish later active sync will start,
if i plug in when switched on i get a error bubble on pc saying i have a malfunctioning device, power off and plug back in, wait a bit, i have a working syncing device. wierd!!!!
i only got usb1 on this lappy and my other has 2.0 had same problem, so i dont think its a usb problem
no bugs on my side
i installed 4.1, and it works like a charm on both pda2k and universal

It took a while to work out, but here it is: Skype works fine as long Activesync is not on. In the old machines, AS would kick in and appear in the memory only after you sync'd. Here it comes up automatically, whether you sync or not. In fact, you should see Active sync running in the background virtually always.
Clicking on the memory you'll see its always on, you press stop, and Skype works for 5-10 minutes, until AS turns tiself back on.
Any fixes for this in the registry?

Great stuff Nabil! Now, can someone please check if there are still issues with ActiveSync causing problems with Skype? I would do it, but I don't have my Universal yet! Waiting on the MDA Pro or Exec.
I'm not entirely happy that Activesync is workig the way it was intended & as I was unable to get this confirmed from several forum members, I ventured out of Xda developers.com to seek confirmation of my doubts.
I ended up reading a review of the new Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC, which as you may or may not know, uses WM 5.0 (but less the phone side of things). Not exactly to my surprise, i found that even in non-phone PPC devices, Active sync is a bit of a cause for concern!
Read here: Review of Dell Axim x51v PPC (WM 5.0)
Windows Mobile 5: Not All is Golden
I won't delve too much into Windows Mobile 5 in this review, since I'm focusing on the X51v itself, but I found Windows Mobile 5 very painful in two ways when I was setting up and using the X51v. First, after a hard reset I connected the X51v to my PC and set up a new partnership. ActiveSync 4.0 has a different partnership wizard if you have a Windows Mobile 5 device, and it's quite intuitive. I entered my hosted Exchange account information, then watched as basically nothing happened. The X51v synchronized with my desktop PC, but coughed up an 0x85020006 error when the device tried to sync with the Exchange server. ActiveSync 4.0 removes the option for Internet passthrough - I assumed that meant it was automatic, but after fighting with Connection Manager on the X51v for 15 minutes I gave up and disconnected. I turned on WiFi, and the X51v saw my access point - I entered my WEP key, started ActiveSync, and clicked sync. It worked! Within a few minutes I had all my data on the X51v - but why wouldn't the synchronization work in the cradle? I have no idea, but it's a serious problem.
Later, I wanted to see if a particular ActiveSync bug had been fixed: I've always had the problem where, after a backup and restore, the Pocket PC has been unable to synchronize against the Exchange server again. Only a hard reset would allow the Pocket PC to sync again. On the X51v, I did a backup using the included application, then hard reset and a restore. I restore the device, then after a soft reset I noticed the date was wrong. No matter, I fixed it and started a sync session. Much to my delight, the sync actually started, which is sometime that wouldn't have happened under Windows Mobile 2003SE.
My delight turned to disbelief, then anger as I saw what ActiveSync was doing: it duplicated 900 contacts, 50 emails, and 6 months worth of appointments! No warning, no "Replace, Remove, or Combine" dialogue box, simply a duplication. It will take me hours to fix this manually, unless I can find a tool to remove duplicates. I have memories of such a tool, but at this point I haven't had time to track one down. Any suggestions for one that will work with Outlook 2003 and an Exchange server? I'm unsure as to whether this is a problem with Dell's backup application, or with ActiveSync. The bottom line is that in this instance Exchange ActiveSync remains broken after a restore - and I'd rather have it break completely then duplicate all my data, so from my point of view it's actually gotten worse. I didn't think that was even possible!
Suffice it to say that while Windows Mobile 5 brings with it several key advantages - persistent storage is amazingly helpful - my experience with it so far has been mixed (WMP 10 Mobile retains its horrible library functions), and I have no shortage of feedback for Microsoft at the MVP Summit coming up in a few weeks. Windows Mobile 5 feels like one step forward and two sideways.
End of this part of the review. Full Review here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,43092&start=2
What do you guys think? I think quite a few problems Universal owners are experiencing will dissapear once MS fix their ActivShite application!

Activesync stink

Using 4.1, got Qtek Rom on a Vario. Been syncing fine for weeks, now...just says connecting. It must be my Vario as my E200 connects no probs and syncs up properly. Tried going back to 3.8 (yeah I know) 4.0 and re-installing 4.1 but it won't connect...any idead argh !?
Hi there,
What message do you get? Getting settings I suppose?
Disable the firewall and try again ( this helped me, while upgrading a Wizard of a friend!)
Good luck!
Activesync Problems
I had this problem too - was syncing just fine for weeks then all of a sudden nothing. Managed to narrow it down (unfortunately had to delete the as profile each time and start anew) and I can safely say that in my case at least it was due to the "Synchronised Files" feature. I decided not to use synchronised files (i.e. I unchecked "Files" under "Options") and now I have it syncing everything else perfectly - on two separate PCs with absolutely no more issues.
Hope this helps mate.
Forgot to mention I have an o2 mini s. (Not the XDAII as indicated <--)

Did you install any firewall software? Do you have active firewall when running AS? Did you regedit your Wizard's registry in branches of AS?
Well at least you get some connection.
When I connect my KJAM I get the normal 'ding dong' and then NOTHING.
If I connect my old PDA2K to the same port it works fine!!!!!!!
Robin
Thanks for the help. I disabled my firewall (Kerio), reset the PC, did the other network hacks to try and get activesync to work. But it wouldn't.
But like I said my E200 (Voyager) sync'd no probs. Somehow as mentioned I think the registry got upset by some fiddling and a hard reset was the the cure then many hours getting it back to settings again, re-installing aps on mem card so I could see them on the phone as icons etc etc.
My device is a Vario with a Qtek Rom (tried K-Jam like the less stuff on the Qtek) with the extended Rom unlocked.

Didn't think to try this. I actually had this prob on my Magician (MDA compact) before I sold it. Should have remembered. Cheers.
Hello,
In fact activesync seems to be te culprit of most my 9100 problems and slowdowns.
I am currently using Activesync 4.1.4841 and when synchronizing with my Wizard everything seems to be working correctly for a first sync. Then I disconnect it from USB, wait a few seconds and try to sync again and it takes forever...slowing down the Pocket PC drastically (until soft-reset)...until returning a timeout message:
"Synchronization cannot be completed sucessfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer."
Any ideia how this might be solved?
Cheers,
Francisco Teixeira

XDA Atom with Activesync 4.1 = No Connection! :-(

Hi everyone,
My new XDA Atom will sync once (and once only!) after every reinstallation of Activesync 4.1.
I've tried all the pathetic tips on Micosoft Activesync website but to no avail. "Firewalls yada yada" etc etc everyone's problem but theirs!
I get the beep on connecting it physically - but no Activesync action.
Can't really re-install Activesync everytime I need to sync!
I'd be glad if anyone else has managed to solve the problem and could tell me how they did it!
Best regards to all,
Conor
Strange solution! Download AudibleManager! Works! Beats me!
Download AudibleManager fromAudible.co.uk.
When it's running I can Activesync every time!!!
Anyone know why that should be?
Thanks!
Conor

Wifi and GPRS strange conflict ...

This happen since I was using Atom last year, I have changed to Atom Exec and now Atom Life, the problem is still existing in all version of Atoms.
My Atoms were no problem to connect to GPRS/EDGE, Internet Browsing, Email and O2 Connect were working perfectly. When I ever connect them to a wifi access point (wifi connection also ok for all kind of applications), after wifi was turn off, the GPRS/EDGE is not working any more, the symptom as follow
1. O2 Connect cannot establish the GPRS connection automatically
2. PIE cannot browse any website or takes very long time to show up the website.
3. PIE can still browse website with ip address (ie. http://123.123.123.123), page will be display almost instant
4. Soft Reset cannot fixed this problem
5. Only way to fixed this problem is delete all the wifi profiles and make a soft reset. Of course Hard Reset can fixed this problem too.
6. If a full system backup after the problem happened, Hard Reset and after restore the problem will come back again.
7. In some unknown situation, the problem will be gone even don't have delete the wifi profiles.
Hope somebody can give me some hints how to fix it.
Many thanks!
Does atom and atom exec has 3G and Gprs/edge in it, as in official site it is not mentioned?
Atom and Atom Exec has no 3G. They top out at EDGE. ROT - 3G is a popular feature, and marketers will jump at the chance to say their phone can connect to it. If it is not mentioned, it definitely doesn't have that feature.
As for the PIE issue - try using an alternative browser, like Opera. I think Microsoft left out the Autodetect Proxy Settings when they ported IE to PPC. -.-

Atom and Atom Exec only support GPRS/EDGE, no 3G or HSDPA.

possible wireless G wifi exec won't connect fix

I have not tried it yet, but I sure hope it works!
Mine just cycling from 'connecting' to 'available'. I even flashed back to wm5 from wm6. Same thing. Tried two routers (both 'g' routers though).
Here it is:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/...11g-support-in-htc-universal-pocket-pc-phone/
And the text incase it vanishes.
Enable Wireless G (802.11g) Support in HTC Universal Pocket PC Phone
HTC Universal also kwown as Qtek 9000, T-Mobile MDA Pro, Orange SPV M5000, O2 Xda Exec, i-mate JASJAR, Dopod 900, Vodafone v1640, Vodafone VPA IV, E-Plus PDA IV, Grundig GR980 and etc as it’s be re-branded and marketed by different vendors and network operators. One major disappointment and weakness of HTC Universal is it’s only support 802.11b-compatible technology, and thus unable to connec to WiFi G (802.11g) network.
It’s possible to make the HTC Universal based Pocket PC phone to compatible and able to connect to 802.11g-only access points by a registry tweak, but the speed would still be the same as 802.11b (11 Mbit/s).
The registry tweak is to change and add the following registry decimal values using a registry editing tool like the PHM Registry Editor at your HTC Universal based Pocket PC:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
After adding and editing above registry key, soft-reset the device.
This is very old.

Your right... and it doesnt work as well..
Wow. My old Dell axim 5 with a wifi cards connects to EVERYTHING... How come this can't?
I am really running out of idea's. I have searched this forum from top to bottom.
I have:
Re-flashed to wm5 (from the O2 site)
Tried every setting under the sun on TWO routers.
Tried with WEP, without it...
Hard reset, soft reset... ect .ect
I managed to CONNECT... I could ping and everything.. but I had to be less than one foot away from the antenna..
HOWEVER, it can pick up the SSID from as far away as the other side of the house (in the basement). This was about the limit of my Dell WIFI CF card too.
Some hope anyway...although it sounds hardwarish..
The book actually mentions an external antenna. Is that a typo? (look in the specs at the back)
I pulled my phone SIM card out and things seem a little more promising.... I tried many times with the phone connect icon in the connection manager turned off, but it's probably still keeping a connection somewhere....
Been through the whole gambit now. Searched this forum completely... tried different roms, tried registry hacks.... everything..
One thing people should be talking about on this forum: Ther e are quite a few people who flashed their pda's and ended up with this problem. Beware!
I guess I am now stuck looking for an SDCARD with some memory on it.
I upgraded my XDA EXEC to WM 6 by using CE Rom (2.02.00 WWE) to get luck for WiFi. I am not able to connect my university WiFi.
I am using Authentication - WPA, Data Encryption - TKIP, EAP Type - PEAP. XDA EXEC shows the WiFi available, but never get connected.
I observed many users of our university network, having windows mobile 5 / 6 based pocket pc, are able to use WiFi. But most of them have the IEEE 802.11b/g in their devices.
Please advise how we can get the settings done in XDA EXEC to get wifi.
Thanks a lot in advance.
