Wifi and GPRS strange conflict ... - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

This happen since I was using Atom last year, I have changed to Atom Exec and now Atom Life, the problem is still existing in all version of Atoms.
My Atoms were no problem to connect to GPRS/EDGE, Internet Browsing, Email and O2 Connect were working perfectly. When I ever connect them to a wifi access point (wifi connection also ok for all kind of applications), after wifi was turn off, the GPRS/EDGE is not working any more, the symptom as follow
1. O2 Connect cannot establish the GPRS connection automatically
2. PIE cannot browse any website or takes very long time to show up the website.
3. PIE can still browse website with ip address (ie. http://123.123.123.123), page will be display almost instant
4. Soft Reset cannot fixed this problem
5. Only way to fixed this problem is delete all the wifi profiles and make a soft reset. Of course Hard Reset can fixed this problem too.
6. If a full system backup after the problem happened, Hard Reset and after restore the problem will come back again.
7. In some unknown situation, the problem will be gone even don't have delete the wifi profiles.
Hope somebody can give me some hints how to fix it.
Many thanks!

Does atom and atom exec has 3G and Gprs/edge in it, as in official site it is not mentioned?

Atom and Atom Exec has no 3G. They top out at EDGE. ROT - 3G is a popular feature, and marketers will jump at the chance to say their phone can connect to it. If it is not mentioned, it definitely doesn't have that feature.
As for the PIE issue - try using an alternative browser, like Opera. I think Microsoft left out the Autodetect Proxy Settings when they ported IE to PPC. -.-

Atom and Atom Exec only support GPRS/EDGE, no 3G or HSDPA.

GPRS/3G connection problem with o2 XDA Excec.

Hi guys,
I'm all new to your forum...
I have the o2 xdII, xdaIIs and now i'm using the xda Exec.
I have a strange problem that even o2 technical support team can't fix...
When i start internet explorer it will connect to either gprs or 3g (whatever is available). when i finish browsing the internet, i just close internet explorer and then close the connection by clicking the disconnect button. Where my problem is, is when i want to reconnect to the internet again (say 5 mins after i close the last connection), i cant get any connection whatsoever. I have a good receiption (gprs and 3g). And i have this weird message :
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
So after a lot of talking with o2, i still have this problem.
I have tried to uprgrade to the new rom, and nothing, i have change the settings of the cennection, still nothing. i even changed the handset as i and o2 thought it could have been a faulty handset, but still nothing...
The only solution at the present is to do a soft reset everytime i want to connect to the internet... Its very annoying !!!!
Would annyone have a solution ??? Please ?????
Thank you in advance for your help....
Personally; I wouldn't suggest closing the connection and you won't get charged any extra.
this is easy to fix, but you will lose some software you've got installed.
I had this problem and have worked it out to be conflicts between software that handles the phone line. I had mortring, phonealarm and photo contacts pro installed and my gprs would not reconnect after the 2nd attempt. Putting the phone into flight mode and then back into normal mode would allow gprs to reconnect but only once.
So I uninstalled the above 3 applications one by one and found the gprs would reconnect great with only one installed (any one it didn't matter)
So try removing software that handles the phone line until your gprs reconnect works.

How To deactivate GPRS (XDA Neo)

Hi!
I have a O2 xda neo. And whant to deactivate the GPRS temporaly. My old Siemens mobile could easiey do this in the network menu. But not the f*** Windows Mobile OS from M$? I couldn't find anything.
I just came back from a trip to Turkey and it happened exactly what I tried to avoid. I was charged a massive fee for using Internet over GPRS. I checked my emails daily over the hotel WLAN - but this had a pretty bad connection and it was lost all the time and then the stupid Windows connected me via GPRS - Ahhh. It seems that I was often not fast enough to abort this. Pretty expensive now.
So please help me, where can I deactivate GPRS when I am not at home?
Regards
mx
Easiest way IMHO is to use dummy GPRS profiles that can't connect.
V
but how do you make the 'G' symbol completely dissapear as i cant to wifi with it there
Hi sakinah!
The 'G' symbol is just there to tell you that the network supports GPRS. If it doesn't have 2 arrows under it, you are not connected.
As far as I know there is no way to get rid of it. However on my Jamin (= XDA Neo = prophet) it doesn't interfere with wifi. You should check your wifi settings, or try Hitchhiker for automatic configuration.
Good luck!

GPRS prob with xda neo

My o2 wapflat ist working fine most times. and i use pushemail trough this also. but sometimes the gprs connection im using 24 hours a day shows that is is connected but no more sync or even internet works. if i try to reconnect i dont even get a connection to gprs. Only a softrest does help.
Can somebody help?
P.s. I did not install the crappy o2 software from ext.rom
Hallo Sebi
Cannot help you much, only report that with Base flat and Cortado Direct Push I experience no such problems. If GPRS signal is lost out of coverage the device automatically reconnects, and the device never shows GPRS running when in fact there is no connection. Maybe there is a GPRS sensitivy setting in the registry, but I can only speculate. Good luck.
I think the problem is comming from phonealarm. i just get the new beta an know the problem is gone.

How to use P3600 as HSDPA Modem

I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.

Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???
thanks

Atom Life MSN

Hi guys i just got my Atom Life and i have been trying out the MSN messenger on the atomlife but it always connects to my GPRS even if i had my WIFI on how can i force it to work with WIFI any options or any thing i can look into?
Just tap cancel and it will be ok. Well, it is annoying and I've reported this to O2 and Microsoft. Microsoft points finger to O2 and O2 just ignore it.
The latest version of WM6 rom (October version) seems to fix this problem but introduces other bug. When you tap the Send/Receive button in Messaging, it will open the GPRS/3G connection and you can't cancel it. Btw, everything works fine if you use Windows Live.
thanks for the info
