Call History - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Does anyone know if it's possible to look at the call history file so that it could be printed out from the host PC ?
Would be useful when filling out expenses claims to list all calls which were business related.
Thanks

Call history
Im looking for the same thing. A way to printout the call history, does anyone know a way or prehaps the Call history file name?

The file name is clog.db in the databases folder. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that the databases on the XDA can be opened.

here are some options as to which programs on pc may be able to open the file with the db extention
http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=db&goButton=Go

Thnx al lot crippsa and Rudegar, found the clog.db file and am able to open it with DBView.

Hi boeloe44,
I'm interested to know how you accessed the clog.db file with DBView. Is this the ARANAY DBView program ? (DBView V2) or another PPC application of the same name ?
I've tried the Aranay DBView which runs on the host PC and cannot seem to get it to connect to my XDA to read the DB files.
Any assistance you may be able to give would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

why not just copy the file to the pc that should make access a bit easier

Actualy dbview didn't help as i thought it would. I could only view the clog file with it and nothing else.
I found another program and this one did help me, its dbexlporer.

Here you can download a trail version
With dbexplorer you can export a database to a comma separated file. This file is accessable and you can copy the file from your ppc to a desktop pc and open it with Microsoft Excel.
This is my way for printing out the call history, hoop it helps you crippsa.
To Rudegar: I was unable to find a way to copy the database to my desktop pc. I think the databases are lock or something.

I use Phone Dashboard for this purpose. It also tracks usage overall with some powerful filters such as free mobile-to-mobile plans, night/weekend, etc.

Thanks boeloe44 - DBExplorer is just the job, exports all the fields including the contact name - just what I'm looking for.
Phone Dashboard is good, but you still cant print the call log on the host PC and also it does not show the contact name. It only shows date, time, number and length. Unless of course the trial edition I'm using has less features that the full copy.
I've noticed that the clog.db only holds 50 entries, does anybody know if this can be expanded ?
Thanks,
Alan

The clog.db file certainly will hold thousands of entries. You can change the deletion settings by going to the phone, then call history, click on the tools menu, call timers...

Thanks Carlos - I've since found that Phone Dashboard can export the log file but it still doesn't contain the contact name, which is a pity as having it saves time by not having to look up the number to see if it was a personal or business call.
Thanks for advising how to adjust the deletion time on the clog database.
Alan

I've passed a comment to Hudson Mobile Technolgies (makers of Phone Dashboard) to include the name field in future releases of Dashboard

That would be a good idea. Another idea I sent him was to include the contact's CATEGORY. Then I'd have "client" in the field and would know to bill it. Right now I simply sort in Excel and search on the known billable numbers. Not as accurate or quick.
Overall though, that product is a very nice one to have on my phone. It has saved me money when I've been close to going over my plan. I don't know how it is in Europe, but US carriers screw you on overage (35-40 cents per minute).

Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and paste

Thought I'd throw this one in incase I'd missed something.
There appears to be some basic failings in the ability to cut and paste phone numbers between various applications on the WM phone.
Take the example that I receive a SMS text message from someone not in my contacts database.
I know who the person is and I want to create a new contact entry using the received phone number.
There appears to be no way of cutting or copying the phone number from the messaging section and pasteing it into a new Contact.
Or it may be that I already have an entry for the person I just don't have their mobile number number in the contact record (or what ever new number is received).
Have I missed a trick here - or indeed is this a limitation that exists. If there is a work around I'd love to know. i just have such an appauling memory for numbers that I couldn't even remember between flicking between applications - let alone the scope for error.
Thanks
Re: Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and p
Open the message (instead of just reading it from the list or notification window). You'll note that the From: field is already selected.
Press the Menu softkey, then Save to Contacts.
Simple as that
OK so that allows you to create a new contact. Once you have them in contacts you can do a copy of the number and paste it into an original record. Then delete the new contact just created. Ideally I'd like to miss out the intermediate step of creating another new contact - for those where I know I already have a contact entry, but just not with that particular number.
I agree with you.
There should be an extra choice after save to contact.
Like new contact/ add to contact.
The same with email. If i want to add an emailadres it makes a new contact.
An other problem i find is that copy/ paste is not always available when i select a text.
When I rename a file in file explorer I can't select the word and copy/paste by "tap and hold".
Now i use GSPocket Magic to copy/ paste
You would have thought that on the, what is it, 3rd iteration of WM they could have sorted this out.
It is behaviour like this that can make all the diference between something that is really user friendly and something which is torturous.
Hopefully there are some influential people who read this that can feed it back to the powers that be.
You can try PQz fot copy/Paste : http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
This there too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343
open up the message, where is says the from tap and drag on the screen to highlight the number then tap and hold on the highlighted but then when the menu opens click copy

Adding number to existing contact ?

When you take a call from a number you dont have but want to add it, is there anyway to add it to an existing contact rather than have to create a new one and then copy paste ?
I have had more than one person who has phoned me from work or home and I have their mobile number so I then wanted to add this other number to their contact. The only way I can seem to do it is to copy the number when adding to contacts. You can only press ok then so it creates an unknown contact. Then you have to go into the persons details and paste the number and then delete the unknown number.
There must be a way to add a number to an existing contact right ?

Be nice to have the good old Nokia "Add to Contact" too, instead of just the "Save" that we have...
You can do it if you tap+hold, then select the "Send Text Message" and copy it from the Message Editor's To: line with another click+hold. When you close the message it not saved it if it's empty, so you don't have to delete it from drafts. Paste into the existing contact and voila... There you are, task done, but still thinking what a faff and why isn't there a "Save to Contact" context menu item...
Dox.
Quite a ridiculous oversight. Its not the end of the world, but not what you would expect from this kind of phone.
Just one good reason for someone with a poxy phone to laugh at you.
" You can stream online radio and connect to your home network, but you cant copy a number into an existing contact ? " ROFLMAO !
Yes, that and having to explain that they need to SMS the details to you rather than sending the contacts business card over SMS as your wizzbang all singing all dancing super phone can't handle SMS business cards...
Out of interest, is the Add to Contact issue the same on the Universal?

i guess this issue conerns overall Windows Mobile platform. let's tell the truth - devices such as wizard or universal are not the best as *phones*. i'd say, that most of 'classic' mobiles are far better in various terms over windows mobile based devices (i.e. cell broadcast handling, profile switching, add to contact issue, etc..). basically there's still lot of work to do for microsoft engineers in that matter. however as PDA it's one of the best if not the best of all platforms right now. so using pda+phone combined devices is always some kind of compromise - there are really stunning pda features but still some issues as a phone as well. personally, i'm quite happy of using such combination and i can handle some of these compromises..
Radio streaming
How do you stream radio then ?
What channels can you get ?
Sorry it's a bit off topic. :?

Get Resco Radio or there are some websites you can click on links to streaming broadcasts although that can sometimes be a bit more problematic and fiddley. Redco works gr8 though.
Out of interest is there any easy way to import loads if not all availabe online radio into Resco Radio as its a joy to use but maybe a bit limited in stations considering whats out there.

[Updated - Solution Now Available] Need to dial numbers direct from Notes or Calendar

Blackberrys hotlink phone numbers, email addresses, and url's automatically out of the box. MarkNDial and TreoSelectText do this on POS but you need to select the text first. I can't find anything to do this on WM. Does it exist?
For those of you not familiar with MarkNDial for the Palm OS, it allows you to highlight a phone number (in a task for a calendar appointment) and dial it directly.
Does anyone know of a similar app for WM (expecially one that works in Notes)? Any help would be appreciated.
What is needed needs to be as simple as a click or 2. Selecting items is too much against my Treocentric ease of use. On Blackberrys it auto recognizes phone numbers, email, and url's in its notepad and other apps out of the box. Scroll to an item, click it, and it asks if you want to do the selected thing. One more click executes the instruction. Beautiful it its simplicity.
I have hundreds of numbers in notes I started in my Blackberry days for contacts I use infrequently so as to not clutter up my Outlook contacts, then I carried them over to my 700wx and found out that this functionality was sorely missing (not a big surprise for WM, but where are the third parties here). I am now a WM/Treo convert and am longing for the 800w.
The pending arrival of the 800w has renewed my interest in perfecting my Treo device and I would love to see this super efficient function added to WM to make the 800w even more useable then it will already be. Of course your device may vary but this would be a boon to all WM devices.
So is there anything out there like this or anyone to write it? I would gladly pay for a program or a script to fix this WM annoyance.
Great Solution
Hannip over at treocentral.com wrote and/or modified a MortScript to perfrom this function from a mapped button. In totally works, and does even more!!!
In summary:
MultiSwitch6 checks what app is running in the foreground and does the following.
1) If mail app - open the folders (fix for a major non-one handed annoyance).
2) If calendar - find phone numbers and prompt to call.
3) If notes - prompt to call the phone number where the cursor is.
4) Else run Pocket Internet Explorer or modify for app of choice.
Follow the thread and get the MortScript here (note: latest script is around post #11):

Transfer call blocklist

Hello everyone,
I've used Samsung's Smart Switch several times, to transfer my data from one phone to another. But Smart Switch always fails to transfer my call blocklist, so I have to type the list by hand all over again.
Is there a better way to do this? Via an android app, or even via adb commands? Without root of course.
Thank you.

i edited my quote to show just the part that makes me believe that you dont have these phone numbers saved as contacts on your phone. If that is the case, then android doesnt know to transfer the fact that you blocked those numbers not associated with an entry into your contact list over to a different device. Im betting that if you add a single contact on your old phone and then tack all the blocked numbers on to that number, then itll work. You might have to add a few new contact entries as im unsure about how many phone numbers you can add to each contact, but im sure you get the idea.
also, if youre blocking phone numbers of people who youd rather not see their name on your phone, you can make a contact called whatever you like such as "mortuary" or "FBI 'nobody wants' list" and add whatever numbers you need on to that contact
First of all, thanks for taking the time to answer to my question.
Indeed you are right, I am not talking about the Contacts. This is the blocklist in the Phone app. (in older devices it was called Auto reject list, now its called Block list).
Adding phone numbers in the block list does not require a Contact to exist. Adding numbers in the block list is easy, during an incoming call the "block" button adds the incoming call to the list and rejects the call at the same time.
Unfortunately, Smart Switch does not transfer this list, hence my post.
I will try what you suggest and create contact that contains blocked numbers, though I'm not sure how to transfer them from the Phone app to the Contacts app. Lets see...

once you have the contact stored, youd just export the vcf file to wherever it needs to go. also, i know the blocked call feature is pretty nice, i rarely use it, but im betting samsung overlooked the passing of blocked caller info with smartswitch. One would have to imagine that the blocked numbers list gets stored somewhere on the phone. Hopefully its not in a root protected folder. Best of luck!
Interesting... the vcf export file is missing some information from my Contacts, like the associated image (the one in the vcf is a small thumbnail only). Seems like this method is even worse than Smart Switch.

i cant say that im at all familiar with the contents of the VCF file itself. I would have thought that the VCF file was pretty basic as its been the standard for a decade
Well, version 4 of the standard (RFC 6350) clearly states the use of a URI which may be a remote URL or a base64 encoded string, but does not impose any resolution limits.
For whatever reason, Samsung hides the Contacts high-res photos within a root-accessible directory and the exported VCF file contains a small thumbnail as a base64 encoded string. Of course there is a big loss of other data as well. For example historical logs of all the Contacts. I'm guessing VCF export is not a real solution for moving to a new phone, but a solution for sharing contacts.
Maybe "adb backup" is more effective? hmmm... food for thought

I didn't migrate for me as well.
I have tried adding the blocked number to my contacts, but it it not migrated to the blocked list on my new phone. Have you managed to migrate it?

Unfortunately, even the latest Smart Switch, does not support migration of the block list
So far, I haven't found a way to backup the list, it has to be done manually.

Thanks. I had 470+ numbers, and it would not have been easy to type each one out. I exported and imported. Took 5 minutes in total with every task done. Thanks again.
It doesn't work anymore as it says it's for old android version and doesn't let us download it.
Is there an alternative?
