I hope someone can help, as I haven't been able to find the answer yet (I can imagine it may be somewhere here on xda-developers.com, just CAN'T seem to find it ;-)
How do you rename a file AND its extension.
I have quite a bit of software installed, but still nothing seems to solve this little problem. There are some cases where I think it may help (certain word files, media files are not recognized in WM2003?!) and it would be nice if you could manually set a file's extension.
Anyone posting a link or an answer would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe some software that does this?

total commander it renames just a charm and pretty much act like it's windows sister version which again act pretty much like good old

Thanks guys. I'll give them both a try, yet I recall that I found something about resco products (durring install?) that I didn't particularly like. Maybe just my imagination :?
But, I'll try them both out... as I found I really need to rename files 'on-the-fly' from time to time.

well i use total commander all the time renaming my sheep p0rn collection mpg's to .tsk all the time so people who mess around with my pda think they are damaged today screen themes to hide my terrorble secret
2 ways to do it single tap a file and it goes into rename mode where the extention is changed by changing the last 3 letters after the .
or hold down the pen givng a menu which include rename
My Qtek 9100 with the latest english generic ROM was working fine for months. This morning, I removed the SIM and put it back in. Since then, it won't activesync, I can't drag n drop files to it through Explorer, and when I try to download a CAB file via IE, I now get this error message:
"This device is restricted from downloading this file type."
Any ideas? I don't understand what happened to it! It's like it moved to a very strict secure mode all by itself. It doesn't make any sense!
It seems that my security policies are all whacked up. The device doesn't even see the installed applications in the "Software uninstaller manager" app anymore. I tried rebooting and soft-resetting, no good.
ok guys, in order to fix my problem, I NEED one of you to send me ALL the keys and data info from this registry folder:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Please export that registry for me as a text file and attach it here (or copy/paste it), so I can retype it manually on my Qtek 9100 phone (I can't import anything on my PDA atm as I can't download anything to it, it won't let me).
If none of you do this small favor to me, I am screwed. I would need to hard reset and lose everything (I can't back up anything).

Ok, I am running the latest "T-mobile custom" ROM, ROM version 2.24.10.1 WWE. I should have no policies enabled... I have typed out all of the keys and values under this in notepad in the format name-value. all values should be DWORD. Hope this helps....

Okay I found that my security policies on my MDA did NOT match totally with the one that was posted here. Little adjustments had to be made in the value of the d-words as well as 3 dwords had to be added.
I also found ADDITIONAL D-Words:

I have not checked if changing these have fixed my issue or not so lets find out I will post back with the result. Should I try removing the additional ones found on my MDA?
Merely changing the security Policies as listed in the .txt did not fix the problem
I have this problem too, I can't even edit the registry so I can't even try to put the policies back again. By the looks of things that won't work anyway.
Anyone got a solution that doesn't involve wiping the phone? Not that I know how to do that anyway. I have an XDA Orbit from O2.

Worked fine for the first few days - was able to download CABs etc. Then it just stopped. I've read elsewhere about root certificates. Could this be the problem?

This microsoft bug can make you loose a lot of work, time and data.

Hello all. I also have a Qtek 9100 for more than 2 years.
Honestly i never had that problem. And i already flashed undreads of ROMs and software to it.
One thing is that i always have Backup Software for any eventuality. Things can always go wrong.
Tips
First - Try to use Resco Registery Editor,its a good Software to make any changes "Delete/Rename/Copy/Add etc,etc.
Second - Look for Its Right,the TNT Master. It will be dificult to find him as he is getting is Engineer Degree. You can also ask Octaivoi,he is a Wizard Master 2.
Third - Keep an exautive search in XDA Devs and eventualy you all will find the answere.
Fourth - Get a Backup Software,get back all the software that cant be recovered. "Eugenia software can always be recovered". And FLASH a new ROM. There are many,many Beautiful and advanced Wizard ROMs arround XDA Dev.
Hope that any of these tips can help

first had this problem with the empty "remove programs" list 6 months ago, glad to see this whacked-out solution that works!!
Conclusion: Microsoft Windows Mobile messed up the security settings, so let Microsoft Word Mobile put it back automatically, voila!
And ofcourse, I've read about this "fix" soo many times at so many places, and it works for everyone but me >.< I tried all the different ways theres to it, nothing worked. One more thing, shutting it off and THEN pressing soft reset doesn't make sense. Anyway I tried, and it didnt fix. Still got the file deletion/changing restriction. Can't sync, can't get online, download files nothing ... If only Microsoft cared to fix this. Anyone any idea? Dutch phone, Hi provider, rom version: 1.93.404.1 NLD

I'm sorry it didn't work on your device. I had the same problem, no sync, no file copy/rename on the device, no cab install, no programs in "add/remove programs" on my Mio A702 thing. The MS Word solution worked smoothely and now I have everything as it should be. So I can confirm the "word thing" actually works . Don't know why it won't do the trick in your case
so i see that there is a blue angel rom with "true" crossbow sound theme.. im wondering if neone has these files id like to use them on the wizard. dont care so much bout the icons but want the sounds!

The ringtone file is the only thing I've seen posted in the forums.
After the mess with Palm over posting the PhotoDialer .cab and with Apple over the iPhone mock-up screen, if there ever WAS a posted file with the other system sounds it's probably had to be removed now too. But, if it WAS ever posted, I never did see it -- and I scour these forums every day.
This is the soundpack I have - I have it and have no idea where/when I got it. It has the same name as the zip posted here and has the same file plus a whole lot more. I think it's standard with the AKU 3.2.

Anyone have any ideas on using the new sounds. I can't replace the files in \Windows, and cannot alter there attributes. I'm assuming you must build a ROM to use them.
I have a sounds folder in "My Documents" on my PPC and there is already a sounds folder in Application Data. Put them there and the system will recognize them. No need to replace the other ones...

None of those work. The system still uses the files in \windows.
Try using Total commander to overwrite the files.
i used windows exploere and overwrote off the pc
You cannot just change the sounds i'm afraid, that's not worked since back in WM2002, you have to change the registry entries related to the sounds...
I reccomend a nice little commercial app (no links) called "Soundz Cool". It's a Windows based application that runs on your PC, which connects to any WM powered PDA, and pulls the sound settings from the registry. you can then edit them, and copy them back to your PDA with your own custom sound effects. Soundz Cool will even remove unused files it's copied across before to kepp your PDA clean.
Hope this helps you all, coz it took me ages to find such an application...
Has anyone found a word completion dictionary editor that works with WM6? The two I used to use with WM5 cannot find the dictionary in WM6. I imagine Microsoft changed the file type or location.
Edit: This is the dictionary that adds words that you type that are not already in the regular dictionary. The problem arises when you mistype a word and it pops up everytime you're typing a message. The editor allows you to see the words that you have created and edit or delete them.

I contacted the software developer of a dictionary editor and he says that Microsoft has changed the name of the files that contain the dictionary and he will work on it soon to make it compatible with WM6.
This seems to be a bigger problem for the developers than first thought. The developer is asking for a registry value but I don't have a registry editor. Can someone with a registry editor (and WM6) post the value for this string:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Spell Check\User_Dict

Thank you very much. This brings up another mystery: that file doesn't exist in the Windows folder but the Word Completion dictionary works. Back to the drawing board.

I just checked on my system too. I confirm that the file custom.dic doesn't show up in my Windows directory.

I forgot to tell you that my system had been modified in term of word completion.
I'm using the SEA Dopod wm6 rom in English, but I have installed a cab that changes my word completion from English to French.

I believe there are 3 dictionaries: The first auto-corrects spelling errors, the second holds the language dependant words, and the last is the word completion for your own words. This last one is not language dependant as it is filled with words you have added that aren't in the second dictionary. That's the one I'm trying to edit.

I got word back from the developer that he cannot decode the file structure of compimeh.0409.dat but he will continue to work on it. Eventualy we'll get an editor, someone will come up with it.
why do they encode it in the first place?

All I know is that he said he cannot use this file with his Dictionary Editor (as it exists) but said that he is buying a WM6 device (TyTn II) and shortly after he should be able to update his software to work with WM6.
Ouch.. so as of now, there are not word editors that works with WM2006 yet?

I'm afraid you're right
I contacted the developers of the two most widely available editors that currently work with WM5. One said that he has no immediate plans to upgrade his software to work with WM6 and the other said he is working on it. So I guess we all have to wait some more.
Can anyone interpret the file structure of Windows/compimeh.0409.dat? Once this is accomplished, we can have a Word Completion Dictionary Editor again.

I'm curious about any update to this, too. Having mistyped words before, it drives me bonkers when they pop up on autocomplete. I really want to go in and delete them before they drive me mad!

It only says wm2003 and above...so it doesn't say that it can work with WM6, but it was updated in Dec 2007, so you never know. It is free so worth a try. Feedback your findings.

I've just asked myself if there's a way to display several appointments on the wm 6.5 lockscreen.
After searching in the .cpr it seems like the lockscreen.dll is used with a function *LS_appointment*.
(OnInitComplete="Binding:LockScreen,LS_Appointment">)
After searching the internet it seems like there's no way to edit the .dll. So is there any way to create a .dll with such a function, wich is giving the second Appointment as subject and the time & date?
i havent any knowlegde about programming and just wanted to ask if there's anybody out there who could realise this.

there is a way to edit dll... use pe explorer,,, just search and you will find one...
