XDA2 coder wanted (ref: BMW Steering Wheel Buttons)

Hi all,
I'm working on a BMW Steering Wheel button interface for my XDA2 in its car kit (E-Leads). I am a hardware kind of guy and have built an interface that will read the codes that the car generates when the buttons are pressed. I can then generate my own serial codes over rs-232 to send to the XDA2 when in its car kit cradle.
I'm after some help from someone who can / has experiance / is willing to give it a bash... and write a new phone dialler app that not only has the usual buttons on the screen, quick dial list etc but will also listen to the com port and when I send in serial codes from the steering wheel buttons into it, it can then answer a call, hangup, move up and down the speed dial list etc.
I'm only doing this as a personal project but if said programmer wants we could try and sell the package as one hardware + software ???
Like I say I'm not a programmer so I'll leave that up the an expert...
So anyone up for the challenge ?? ? ? ? ?
Cheers
Kev/.
P.S. If the suscellful applicant (!) happens to own a BMW with I-Bus (circa 1997 onwards) then I'm sure I can chuck one in the post to you...
Any luck on this so far?
Hi,
I've not longer got my XDA2 and now have a TomTom Go 500. But I have done the same thing with the BMW Steering Wheel buttons to operate the Bluetooth phone features on the TomTom!

Car Kit Question

Hey,
Perhaps not exactly in the right topic but I wanted to ask how you use car kits with android on hd2. Is there option that when I put phone into car kit it would recognize it and run car home automaticly? Is there option to put my Igo into car home panel? And the phone seems to go idling with blackscreen even if its charging on the car kit, how to change that? Using Mdeejay 2.6 and original hd2 car kit.
Thank you in advance if you point me to the right direction
+ 1
the route 66 navigation program that comes with desire z build is frankly crap. is there anyway to change the shortcut on the car panel to run another program such as CoPilot?
Cheers

rk3188 erisin es2700f "blue & me" issue

Hi,
I have a es2700f from erisin on my Fiat Bravo II. This is a rk3188 (MTCB-KGL-V2.80, android 4.4.4) with an external canbus box.
I would continue to use the 'Blue & Me' ( B&M) features for the phone usage and the integration seems to exist... but with bugs
When I click on the steering wheel command (the windows logo) a screen with a microphone picture appears on the screen (the window title is 'car info'?). Normally after a couple seconds a voice should ask me 'What do you want to do?' but nothing. If I ask for a phone number (this is a voice recognition) the call start and all is fine. I hear my interlocutor, that's prove than the es2700f is able to detect a 'blue & me' call activity and to switch on the audio external input (from the B&M unit). The issue is during the command recognition where the Android unit should cut the current audio thread and switch on the 'Aux IN'.
I think this is not a CANBUS recognition issue because of the micro displayed during the recognition step. What can be done, is it a configuration file with this kind of option? Is someone has an idea?
THanks
Hi there!
First of all, sorry for the offtopic.
I cant help with your issue cause i dont have the unit yet.
I´m planning on buying it, can i msg you for some questions?
thanks in advance
Sure, in PM.

Looking for infos on Joying Head Unit for my crazy project :)

Hi All,
I'm about to attempt to upgrade my Harley RoadGlide's radio.
REEAALLLY like the fact that it will be a all-in-one solution (GPS/Radio etc)
Here is the plan:
Joying 8.8" 4gb /32gb Android 8 unit
Adaptor for 1 DIN radio ( Harley factory is a off the wall size more like a 1-1/2 DIN )
Module to retain handlebar controls (Works like a steering one)
Marine amp (with the remote power on a manual switch so I can shut the speakers off)
Bluetooth transmitter to send music to headset if needed
Before anybody points out the obvious, yes I know the unit is not marine grade..
This leads me the my first question:
How much heat does the display generate?
I was thinking on taking the bezel off, wrapping the whole back in vinyl up and over the edge of the glass and then putting the bezel back on. This would seal the display part since there is not reset/mic/pwr holes in the glass..
Mating the display with the body will be thru a custom device with seals to prevent water getting in at the connectors.
As for the "main" body it is pretty much protected being in the fairing. I will need a heatsink/fan but I think it will be ok.
Now on the operational question:
Can a bluetooth headset be connected directly to the unit? (For listening to music)
Any tips/advice?
Anybody ever done this?
Thanks !
Ok.. just ordered the 8.8" single din 4gb model.
Was 25% off. Black Friday sale. What can go wrong ??
Good thing about that model is that it is solid glass.. no reset/mic holes.. should make it easier to weatherproof.
The fun will begin when the unit gets here.
Lots of config/testing to do before I shoehorn that puppy in the bike.
I'll post pics if people are interested.
Been testing a couple of GPS apps on my tablet right now ahead of the integration and so far Sygic and Osmand are the best I found. Following a preplanned route is a must( ie to not deviate from the plan) , so if anybody has insight please point me in the right direction ?
Patiently awaiting the arrival of the unit...
The beast is here!!
Just received my unit ?
Got to say it is very well packaged
Will setup and start the testing soon.
Stoked!!!!!
Update/ Questions
Hi All,
Well.. the testing is going well.
So far i am able to get all my music audio to the Bluetooth headset by using a transmitter connected to the RCA output.
I had to use an external USB power for the dongle because the transmitter is "recognized" as a USB keyboard by Joying
I am using the soft button on the unit to turn the amp on/off when I want to use the headset.
I am able to use ZLink as well to connect the phone to the unit.
To have the headset capability for phone, I need to have the headset paired with the headset first.
Then I connect the phone to the unit using ZLink/Android Auto on 1 USB input
I can use the radio's display to control the phone and make calls.
All audio/mic is done by the headset. Yeah!
Only 1 problem.. The Joying keeps on wanting to connect Bluetooth to the phone.. Pops a request every so often..
Any way of turning this off? Only happens when Zlink is active...
If I connect the radio to the phone, it kicks the headset off...
Any way to disable Bluetooth entirely on the unit?
Unit is now rooted and I have installed JET.
Waiting for my handlebar controls converter in order to test "steering" functions.
Cheers!

Click to collapse
Can't you do that from the settings? Simply switch off Bluetooth?
Or is that when Joying keeps nagging to switch on Bluetooth? ("wanting to connect" can mean to connect because BT is active, or first wanting to switch it on and then connect)
I tried..
The Zlink app automatically turns bluetooth on I believe.
The bluetooth is off in my Joying settings.
It only happens when the Zlink window is "active"
So when I first connect I press cancel on my phone when the request comes in.
All good until I minimize the windows then re-activate it. Then another request comes in from the Joying unit...
I tried to disable the bluetooth in the app settings and Zlink refuses to open.
There is no "access to bluetooth" in the Zlink app settings..
Really more of an annoyance then anything else as I can just cancel the request...
Would really be nice to have some decent bluetooth settings on the unit to be able to connect any devices or change settings.
Or have some ZLink settings to not start bluetooth on demand since it's already been taken care of by the headset...
Thanks for the suggestion
Cheers,
Problem solved! Android Auto using headset instead of Radio for audio
Hi have solved the problem of Bluetooth wanting to connect all the time.
Solution: First time the popup comes in on the phone when connecting USB to the radio (I used Headunit Reloaded but ZLink should be the same), accept and enter proper password (0000)
Once connected, on the phone Bluetooth settings change Joying Radio to No Phone, No Media.
The next time it will not ask to connect and won't kick out the other Bluetooth (Headset)
Android Auto has to be in developers mode to not care which Bluetooth it is using:
To enable it, open the Android Auto app on your phone and choose About from the left menu. Tap the About Android Auto header text about 10 times and you'll see a prompt to enable developer options. Accept it, then hit the three-dot Menu button and choose Developer settings-> Application mode "Developer"
On to the next challenge!
Cheers!
This sounds interesting. Any pics on the install?
Yes pics please, what are doing are weather proofing the head unit or are you a fair weather rider

Generic PC based Android Auto?

Hi all,
I have an old school CarPC that I'm looking to refresh with Android Auto. The system in my car has a head unit and a somewhat unintegrated GPS system (separate screen from the headunit, which has no screen at all, only dumb controls). The way it works presently is my CarPC video is tied into the GPS screen and the audio is tied into the headunit Aux input.
You can see some of the details here if itnerested:
CarPC with stock Nav - RX8Club.com
Series I Interior, Audio, and Electronics - CarPC with stock Nav - hey gang.. just picked up an 05 ti grey rx-8 a few weeks ago, came with the full GT package, MS front and rear spoiler. still have the rear and side skirts to go. in the meantime, i decided to get going on the interior, adding a...

What I'm looking for really is any hardware device that:
1) can run Android Auto
2) outputs video to VGA
2) accepts a USB controller for capacitive touch screen
3) accepts a USB controller for Car2PC/Aux input -- devices like these allow a standard audio jack plug into the Aux port, and then ALSO enables steering controls to work (volume, next/previous track, voice control prompt)
4) accepts a standard jack microphone
5) not critical but ideally accepts a radio antenna to integrate OTA radio signal into Android Auto
I *think* raspberry PI is my best option at this point, but it seems like it doesn't have all of the kinks worked out as of yet. If there is something I could install on the bare metal of my car PC, I think that'd be most ideal.
I'll appreciate any expertise on this!
