Will I be able to upgrade XDA's 2002 Version to 2003 when it's released in the next months ? :?:
No, at least not likely. Rumour has it that the new OS requires more than 32Mb of ROM. That is why the iPaq 3970 and 5450 (and a few others) carry 48Mb ROM.
Would we not be able to do a limited upgrade AKA the 3630 ipaq upgrade to 2002 and maybe add a few apps into ram ??
I hope so.
maybe also we can increase ROM size? does hardware supports this? As I know, RAM upgradeable on all MDAs/XDAs to 64Mb (and maybe more? I seen info but don't know how)
So if we'll got 48 or 64 of flash rom we can upgrade. But what 2003 system is will be? Can you give some infos about it?
Pocket PC 2003, codename Ozone, will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with few enhancements. Users should not expect big changes.
Well i agree you may not notice many deffrence or changes but i was assured from people at Microsoft that majore changes within the OS will take place. I am not sure if they will ever be able the fix the bugs GOD knows each day we discover tonnes...
Anyways we should wait and see
Why wouldn't it be possible to upgrade?
The amount of build-in ROM shouldnt be that much of a problem. Since PPC 2003 PE mainly features bugfixes that total size of the OS shouldn't have increased that much. Else it would be possible to install some application is RAM like they did for the iPAQ 36xx.
The only real reason I can think of is the lack of support from O2 and the other telco's that sell these devices.
Keep hoping!
Kamil
I think it is very possible to see XDA can upgrade to PPC 2003 phone edition, however the upgrade may not be free. I look forword to upgrade my T-Mobile MDA with a PPC 2003 O2 English ROM  .

More About Pocket PC 2003
Microsoft recently gave developers an overview of the next version of its Pocket PC operating system. Codename Ozone, this will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with a few enhancements.
Developers will have access to new tools to allow them to build applications that take fuller advantage of the XScale processors found in most of today's handhelds. However, these applications will not run under Pocket PC 2002. Of course, the reverse is not true, as Pocket PC 2003 will retain backward compatibility.
Microsoft has decided to postpone adding other new features, such as voiced control, until a .NET version of Pocket PC is completed -- expected in two to three years.
it will be possible to upgrade the 3870 too ...and it has the same amount of rom ...if i'm not wrong ...
Er... according to Microsoft sources, pocket PC 2003 phone edition runs on Windows CE 4.2 - this is more than a bug fix release!
2003
does anyone have a copy of the BETA version floating around?
IT works fine
I have hacked to HTC phone, parts are SX56 and parts are XDA, but I am running 2003 fine on it right now. There seems to be all sorts of little things, and some of the skins are much prettier, but other than that I don't notice anything huge.
Yeah, I am running Palm OS 6 in my reconstruted XDA with 256M ram and Amd Opteron processor too. It is extermely fast, as fast as my Desktop computer.
hehe

YESSSS!!!
xda with PocketPC2003 is a reality! At least one such device was received by local pda-related software company for review. I have no details about current devices upgrade availability, though.
The only fact is: PocketPC2003 for xda exists and should be pre-installed to new devices after OS will be presented by Microsoft.
I have it on good authority that it is feasible to put PC2003 onto Xda, however this will only happen for evaluation purposes and is unlikely to be available as a general upgrade.
I have just installed the patched version of PPC2003 on my xda, i have seen the new programs installed etc... but it seems for me that is just another ROM and not PPC 2003 since PPC 2003 should look pretty much like windows XP and start buttom should go back to the bottom of the screen and be green etc.....
what do you think
:?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
I'm quite sure it is PPC2003PE. But it is the developers edition and not the release version. Meaning there might be some bugs not fixed yet and some other things missing. But just check the connection manager and you'll know we're talking about the new OS here
Kamil
have a look at all the ppc2003 screenshots on many pda websites, you ll see there s no much graphics differences with ppc2002 it does not look like win XP at all
Who said 2003 must look like Windows XP?
It's 2003 all right. I'll give you one thing that is worth
it on it's own--true always on gprs. It goes dormant when a call comes in, then reconnects seamlessly in the background. It's really what we have been looking for. I have been using it for a few days, and it is really an improvement. Now, if someone could explain how I add certificates to the device, I would be happy camper.
A long time back I bought some software for my SPV which was an answer machine, which was based on the actual phone rather than through the provider (Orange).
With this software, you could record your own greeting also stored on the phone itself, and if you missed a call or rejected one, it would be saved as a voicemail on your phone or on your memory card, with details of the number that left it.
You could select other different options like how many rings before it kicked in etc.
This saved having to pay to retrieve voicemails from the provider and was a very useful program.
Does anyone know if there is something similar for the XDA II available anywhere?
Thanks in advance
I haven't heard of such software, and have been looking for one as well.
I cannot believe it is not possible to have a software answering machine.
it is indeed
the first one and the only one i know was on the sony Z5 and M-Z5 phone witch is already 3 or 4 years old
it included a real answering machine on the phone independant from the one of the operator.
so i guess it might be possible on a smartphone but i ve never seen it on the orange SPV.

Sorry, my mistake there, it wasn't on my first SPV at all , it was on my Nokia 7650 and it was called AnsweringMachine_101
I still have the downloaded "sis" file here but am sure it wouldn't work on my XDA? :? :? :?
he he,lol..
Yes,answering machines softwares are popular on Symbian Based Phones.
But there ins't actually soft like that to ppc..or maybe try search on PocketGear.
Will be very interesting to have a Symbian Emulator to ppc!
Good luck!
I've been wanting to do this. Does anyone have any detail on accessing the phone (radio?) wave IO from the .Net Compact Framework? Standard DLL calls are, of course, an option.
Didn't the HP Jornada w928 Pocket PC Phone Edition include onboard answering machine software? I seem to remember reading that it did.

it is impossible to make an answering machine on PocketPC 2003 OS. This is a software and mostly hardware limitation. When call is established the audio output from wave driver is muted, and there is no way to make it play into the phone line so that other side would hear it. And there is no TAPI "wave/in/out" devices that are used by answering machine software on "big" compiters in PocketPC 2003. Built-in GSM modem in all phones I've checked, also does not have voice AT-commands like on voice modems on "big" computers.
Maybe Wince 5.0 would implement all needed functionality.
If there would exist a way of "unmuting" the waveOut device during a call, than it would be easy to write such a program for PocketPC.
Unmuting should be possible using calls to the core system DLL(s). All the same, VS.Net 2005 & WM2005 & its .Net CF will have SMS/Wave/TAPI functionality (so I've read) - hope I get them at work!

support"

"The 928 comes with voice-activation software, and--this is cool--has a built-in answering machine. This is not software to control your mobile carrier's voice-mail, this is an answering machine built into your PDA. "
Yep, the Jornada 928 WDA Pocket PC Phone 2002 had built-in answering machine software. I wonder who made that program and if it would work on an XDA.

Why I Secretary can’t mute the microphone of my xperia x1 and why the caller can’t hear my answer message
How can I fix this using registry or any tweak tool for windows mobile 6.1
thanks
Sir.. May I have the Link Please
I was dying to have an AM for my excalibur.. can u give me the link from where to download it..
Karan
Dear all Hope the attached file helps u all.
Hello,
i've read it in web page but can't recall where that win ce 5 is out!?
If yes where can we get it from ?? How can i upgrade my i-mate PDA2k from win2003 se to ce 5??
thanks
windows on pda's is very very unlike windows on pc's
a rom requires to be 100% made for the spc device
so you cant get it ever! unless HTC makes a basic rom and
hand it over to the operators like o2 orange and.....
and about if it's out then i've not come across any pda's with it yet
I have seen a lot of reports, comparisons and evaluations of CE5.
BSquare seem of have CE5 ROMS avcailable for their products :
http://www.bsquare.com/products/bsp/amd_download.asp
Actually, it looks as though CE5(Macallan) was realeasd in July 2004.
You can get a device emulator for it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...12-CA31-4BE9-A3BF-B9BF4F64CE72&displaylang=en
and an evaluation version of platform builder to create os images for the emulator from here :

there r some amazing softwares for WM05 n 06 which i would like to install on WM2003SE device..IS there any EMULATORS for installing WM05 n 06 apps on WM2003SE devices??
can it be developped by some one??
IS IT POSSIBLE???
I dont think so. In most cases, and most definitely in this one, M$ usually designs their OS's to MAKE sure that what you're trying to do is not possible. In order to make you go out and buy a new WM5/6 device. That's what I had to do, my device JUST came in yesterday .
applications unless specifc written for wm5 or 6
will run on 2003
if they really are depending on wm5 or 6
nothing will make them run on 2003
much like one cant get a vista emulator for windows95
