ROM FOR BRAZIL 900/1800 NETWORLK - Networking

I HAVE A SX56 PW10B1, SPECIAL EDITION ROM V1.2. ROM 3.17.03 ENG, RADIO VER 6.12. IN THE DEVICE INFORMARTION/IDENTITY MY SX56 APEARS AS MODEL PW10A1. IT IS NOT WORKING HERE IN BRAZIL (THERE'S NO SIGNAL). CAN SOMEONE HELP ME SOULVING THIS PROBLEM. THE TIM NETWORK HERE USES 1800MHZ. IS MY ROM CORRECT? IS MY RADIO VERSION CORRECT? PLEASE HELP ME.

If the sticker says pw10b1 then it is a 900/1900 phone and will not work on 1800.

NOT EVEN IF I CHANGE BIOS/RADIO ETC?

No, it is a hardware limitation of the phone you have, even if the phone says its a PW101A it still remains PW101B. Your phone is not capable of 1800, you can try if you like but I think you will be very disappointed.

thanks anyway!
do you think I can sell this phone easily?

The problem with Brazil is that it uses a 700 frequency and the PDA does not support it. Check with the various providers which frequencies they offer and use them for the phone.
My phone works well in Europe and North America, but would not work in Brazil...
Uma pena! Mas vale investigar se voce quer vender o seu telefone!

The GSM network here is 1.8GHz (Oi and TIM).
My xda2 works very well under the Oi.
In the near future we will have 1.9GHz which Anatel has adopted for 3G phones

Either way Rodrigo has a phone that will not work on 700 or 1800 mhz.

making sx56 or tmobile ppc phone work on 1800 mhz networks

Hi,
is it possible to make the sx56 or tmobile ppc phone (normally 900/1900) work on the european 1800 mhz networks as well :?:
Thank you
Yes, you need to change it in the bootloader. Just select the one that has got the band you need. Don't try to change it in the phone settings, or it won't work.
Are you sure ?
I tried what you mention and it does not connect to Telstra...
I am running a 6.25 radio and an 4.01.16 TMO rom with a 5.17 bootloader.
I tried both 900 stand alone and 900/1800 but it did not work.
Any other trick ?
Thanks,
Bob.
so, has anyone ever succeeded with activating the 1800 mhz?
It's all depending on the device type ... PW10A works only for 900/1800 ... and PW10B works only for 900/1900 .... don't try the impossible!!! ... or you may permanently damage the RSU part!!!
better to get XDA II ... it's tri-band
well, I'm planning to buy one on ebay. how can I make sure, which one it is. what should I ask the seller to look for?
Thanks
is 900/1900 not only in America ?
in that case you should ask the seller to look at his address
ok, my question is if it's possible to make the american version 900/1900 to work on 1800 mhz
most countries in EU have both 900 and 1800 support
here is a list not sure if its 100% uptodate though but i doubt people are limiting the support

Yes, only if the network supports 900 MHz
Zsilak, it will work on 900 but not on 1800.

2003 > SER > 2003 ?

I recently got a locked SX56 loaded with the 2003 ROM. To unlock it, I flashed it with the SER and it's working fine now. But I'd like to go back to the 2003 ROM yet keep my phone unlocked.
Before flashing I had backed up the 2003 ROM using XDATools, can i reflash that image into the sx56? Would this keep my phone unlocked? OR do I need to download the 2003 ROM from the Siemens website (really do not want to dl 18 mb!).
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Omi
You can reflash your backup version. The phone will be unlocked after upfrading...

not able to change bands
Thanks LumpiStefan for your reply, I hope you could also help me with another problem that I'm facing with my XDA.
After changing to the SER, I wanted to switch bands also to 900/1800 but when the I start the band selector tool it gives an ERROR everytime and I'm not able to change bands. It works fine with the operators on 900Mhz but unfortunatley the operator who provides at 1800Mhz is much cheaper and also provides cheap GPRS services here. I'd really like to try the phone on 1800Mhz to see if it would be possible to use the phone with that operator.
Would changing to WM2003 help me change bands easier?
Thanks
Omitav
It all depends on the device type ... only PW10A devices work with 900/1800 (check the rear sticker) ... also the RSU must be suitable for 900/1800 or you may endup killing the device!
Hi Biso007
I've read in the forum that several ppl have changed bands in their PW10Bs and been able to receive 1800 operators (altough the signal strength was usually bad). I wanted to try that out.
How do I find out if my RSU supports 1800 Mhz?
The device info mentions that my Radio is A.33.02, can (and should this) be upgraded?
Thanks for your help.
Omi
I think you mean that some B devices worked on 1800 operator network and this can be true if the operator supports 900 as well (usually they are) and that's exactly my case.
I don't think B device with 900/1900 RSU like yours can work on pure 1800 MHz network ... or what is the need for the expensive tri-band XDA II then
Right, I got it
Yep, mine works fine with the first 3 operators in the state (since they're all on 900). It only won't work with the 4th operator (hutch) as they're on 1800.
Can't have everything I guess :-(
Hutch provides really affordable GPRS, gonna miss that. The other operator provides GPRS at exhorbitant rates, will have to wait until some operator gives at a cheaper rate.
BTW, where r u located in India ?

i-mate Jam strange problem

Hi,
this is the first time im working with with pdas so im totally new in this area. I bought one i-mate Jam and im using ok with one card provider, yesterday i change for other provider and i dont understand why my pda cant get network with this new provider.. i try to make a manual search and no information. the pda is brand new and i also contact the provider to see if is not barred and all is 100% ok... can someone knows if this can be fixed or have any ideia about this?
regards
For sure your unit is SIM locked. There are threads on how to unlock. Please do a search.
the pda is not locked becouse acept card without any problems... the only problem is dont get network of one provider.
What are OS ROM and Radio ROM versions in your unit? If it's an old one try to upgrade to the latest. There are a number of ROM's available in the FTP
Try your new SIM in other phones and see if it works ok. Also try borrowing from friends SIM of the same provider as your new SIM as well as SIMs from other providers.
The magician is a tri-band device build in two flavors:
- 850, 1800, 1900mHz
- 900, 1800, 1900mHz
Could it be the one provider which doesn't work is operating on a non-supported band?
M
hi,
i flash this pda few hours ago and i still have the same problem.. i was looking in other sites and i found something about this problem.
Exact this models have to versions:
PM10A (900-1800-1900 mhz) and PM10C (850-1800-1900mhz) and the one that i have is PM10C. I have to find one way to convert it to PM10A so then i will be able to fix this problem.
When you find the way to change a PM10C to a PM10A or vice-versa you're the man! It's hardware specific & not build in the rom :-(
M
i know someone that can make this change but dont share with no one... i cant do a lot becouse i have only PM10c in hands and i dont have any PM10A to compare the boards.
I just did a search with the keyword "850" and there are 2 pages of threads about this. All threads confirm what what OLTP mentioned - the radio frequencies are set via hardware components and no software or hack can change it. In fact, "Reo" mentioned that he modified the hardware of his unit to make it into a 900/1800/1900 MHz unit.
The 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies are used in the USA, while the 900 and 1800 MHz frequencies are used in Asia, Australia and Europe. I'm pretty sure that your new SIM supports only the 900 MHz frequency. Ask your current provider or check their website to find out what frequency they use. If your provider supports only the 900 MHz, then your last resort is to change provider again.

qtek s100 france

i boutht a qtek S100 in france under SFR network, i'm back in the US with cingular network but the qtek network seletion propose me only tmobile
my rom version is 1.12.00 WWE
Thank you for helping me this is my only phone
olivier
The S100 supports GSM networks at 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. Since Cingular operates a dualband network at 1900 MHz and 850 MHz (which is not supported by the S100), you are probably in an area, that is served by 850 MHz basestations only, that you cannot access with the S100.
Have you tried your S100 in urban areas, that should rather be covered with GSM 1900?
PM10A vs PM10B
Unfortunately you need a, I belief, PM10B version to be able to use the 850MHz networks. These are sold in the US & not in Europe :-(. Thsi doesn't mean your magician is useless, but it comes close for you. The hardware between the PM10A & PM10B differs, it's not a matter of the rom version.

Topaz UMTS 850Mhz Support?

Hi,
I have being looking thru threads but couldn't find any info :$
Is there a way to enable UMTS 850Mhz on Topaz?
btw, UMTS 850Mhz is different from GSM 850Mhz
My topaz only shows as available bands:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)
UMTS(2100)
I know that HTC Pure supports UMTS 850Mhz (from HTC tech specs)
I am wondering if I can apply a patch to get it or if it's a hardware limitation
Thanks a lot
Its a hardware limitation. Edge will be the fastest speed you will get. In other words.... no faster than 2g for the topaz.
Umbranded
I have unbranded Topaz with 5 option on Phone - Options - Band:
Auto
GSM (850 900 1800 1900)
GSM ( 900 + 1800) + UMTS ( 900 + 2100)
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850)
UMTS (2100 + 800)
But I'm not test with 3G yet
:O :O
That give me little hope
Can you share the info about the rom and radio versions you have?
Or if you have a HTC rom, from which region the rom is?
Thanks a lot
I test a lot of ROM's and have lastest radio 4.49.25.57
but some Rom that I`ve tryed not show the
GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) option
acytualy I`m try energy rom (28008.5.3.0)
Sorry for my english...
Thanks a lot
I'll give it a try
I'll post my results soon
Thanks a lot
jaime.rq , please report your opinion after trying, as soon....Very interest me, is it hangt from Radio ROM version and OS ROM, or really hangt about devices hardware ?
Thanks on answer forwarding.
Regards
i have been trying to get my 3g to work on my td2 for a while now with the latest radio and shadowline rom. i can select the 850+1900 umts, it will try and force the mode and then it shows an error that it does not work. only reverting back to auto
i have seen some strange things though, where i make a call and the E switches to G and then switches back to E when i hang up, 3G phone calls?
Hi Folks .. the topaz was not released with 850 UMTS and this is a hardware limitation.
Telstra Australia who NextG network is 850 UMTS even released their ROM and it had to fall back to 2100UMTS (The network they share with 3)
So at least in Australia you will get 3G via 2100UMTS but not the NextG Speed.
PS - got to HTC.co.au m and check out the specs for the TOPAZ - then have a look at other phones specs .. you will get the difference.
Topaz Don't Support 850Mhz UMTS, Hardware issue
I installed the rom and radio that ming_a suggested and tested out
unfortunately it didn't work now my topaz shows GSM (1900 + 850) + UMTS (1900 + 850) as an option but I am unable to connect to the 3G network.
It's a hardware issue
Now I have a nice GSM phone with a lot of capabilities that I won't be able to use... :'(

I have the same issue, I want to know if the chipset is the same. If I change the rom to an ATT?
Estamos en las mismas aqui en Costa Rica, yo igual tengo un TD2 version europea.

Hardware limitation?
Hi I'm from Malaysia and I'm using a network which has 3G although I don't know exactly which type. The problem is, it always show E icon on my Topaz, and it never show 3G icon on top. I could not make video calls with this phone, but my old SE K610i could. What could be the problem? With my new topaz, when I try making video calls, it says there was no 3G network...
