SOCKET SDIO WLAN + Cisco Leap + Odyssey by Funk Software !! - Networking

Anybody tried this yet? I am trying to get my card to recoginze the Cisco AP but no luck? I am using the Socket SDIO wlan card and the Odyssey Client software for Pocket PC by Funk. The configs are correct on my XDA II and are confirmed by their tech. support.
Somehow, the XDA connects to a regular WEP enabled network in one of the buildings, but does not connect to a LEAP authenticated network.
I don't know if its the sotware (odyssey) or Socket's drivers!! Next on the list: i'll try the meetinghousedata's AEGIS client software. See how that works..
Any info. would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks,
K

accessing internet with wifi

Hi, ive got a netgear WG311 v2 pci adapter and have set up an ad-hoc network with my xda2 (scandisk sd card). I can connect to the pc and see pocket pc as a mobile device in my computer. But i cant access the internet from my xda2 while using the wifi. Ne suggestions??
make sure you wifi card have an ip
make sure if you use a proxy that it's set correct in the xda settings
make sure that the router open for the ip that the xda use
Exactly as Rudegar says.
As you can acess your PC, it would seem that you have an IP Address configured on the wifi card. Double check that you have the Netgear Wireless Point's IP Address configured as your default gateway on the XDA.

Setting up Sandisk wifi card with netgear ADSL wireless

Please can anyone help me. I have just recieved a sandisk wifi card but I am having trouble setting it up and connecting with my netgear wireless adsl router  . Does anyone know where I can get step by step instructions for setting this up and all the settings I need?
Thanks
It would help if you told us which router model you have. What seem to be the problems, remember on routers you might have MAC filtering activated and also WEP encryption.
Sorry it is a Netgear DG834G. Having played with it all night, this morning I have now connected and can browse with PIE. No idea what connections I changed to get it working though, but would like to understand what I should have been setting.
Thanks
Can't make this combination work
Hi,
Have got the same router and Orange SPV M1000 on W2003 SE. Have been trying to make this work for a month now. There is no MAC address filtering and no Encryption. It did detect the router once or twice and worked fine once. But it has not worked since then. Have tried speaking to SANDISK, who said that there is a problem with the router and that I need to speak to Netgear. I also tried the Socket's drivers with the SANDISK WiFi, but no luck. Have checked all the settings etc but with no luck yet. The netgear router wirks perfectly all right with another Netgear USB Wifi adapter on a desktop machine. The problem is that the Sandisk WIFI cannot even see the netgear router (the 'Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)' has been selected on the netgear router).
Can somebody help me out with this?
Thanks

Hi,
Try changing the Wireless Radio Channel to eleven (11).
Regards,
Thanks for your reply. It has been set to Channel 11 by default!
Raj
Hi,
There is a few thing that you can try.
1) Disable the encryption.
2) Disable the G mode.
3) Disable any of the multiplier mode. This means that to run the router at max of 11Mbit/s only.
Regards,
Kueh.
All done still no luck. It does not pickup the router.
DHCP has been enabled on Netgear router. Do I need to add any settings manually for this to work?
Raj
Some settings I have set that now allows me access to netgear router and on to the internet. Still need to understand if I can access files on PC.
Under connections/advanced/select networks (programs that automatically connect to a private network) My Work Network/proxy settings. Tick both and put in netgear router server IP address. In Advanced HTTP has same IP address.
Under Connections/advanced/network card/ My network connects to... the internet. Click on adapter (I used Socket drivers for Sandisk card) for IP address select Use server assigned IP address.
You then need to set up the router to allow you to have access.
Go into Wireless Settings.
Name (SSID) - the default given
Region - mine is Europe
Channel - mine is 11
Mode - mine is g & b
Wireless Access Point
Enable Wireless Access Point selected
Allow broadcast of name select
Wireless Station Access list
Click button
Select Turn Access control on
Add New Station manually
Type in a device name for your XDA
Type in the MAC address off the back of your Sandisk card
Press Add
Security options
Select WEP
WEP Security Encryption
Authentication type - Shared Key
Encryption strength - 128 bit
WEP Key
Passphrase - (I used a word and pressed generate)
Key 1 - was populated and selected (When connecting with XDAII I was asked for this Key)
I think that about sums it up. May have changed other settings in my frustration of trying to get it to work so no guarantees.
Regards
Tried everything as suggested by you. I just can't make it work. I can't even see the router in the available wireless networks lists. I have given up now!
Thanks for your help.

XDA Exec issue WiFi and DHCP

I have a SuSE 9.3 machine which has a wireless card configured and installed, it acts as a wireless router and has DHCP configured and installed.
What I am trying to do is to get my Exec to connect and use the Linux machine as its DHCP, DNS and gateway server.
I also have a laptop with a wireless card installed running Win2000 Pro.
My problem is this, my laptop is configured fine, it is assigned an IP adress correctly and can connect to the internet via the Linux gateway.
My Exec does not. My Exec told me it had found a new network, which was the SSID of the network card I had configured. I edited the settings so that the Exec knew that Shared authenticatin is used and gave the passkey, the Exec is assigned an IP address, but it is not in the range of IP's that I have specified to be allocated to DHCP clients.
Does anyone have any tips or ideas?
EDIT
One after thought, what level of encryption does the WiFi on the Exec use for the passkey? is it possible to change this?
Try this, its needed to get JJ to connect to a win2k3 share, the same may apply for dhcp, not sure, worth a go
--Universal can't connect to Windows Server 2003--
Cant map to a Windows 2003 Server share? Is it also a Domain Controller? Check the server for
start / programs / administraton tools / Domain Controller Security Policy
Then check Local Policies / Security Options :
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (always)
change to disabled
ohh and 128 bit works a treat
Try using Open authentication in place of shared. This is the Linux default.

My Work Wireless Login Instructions (WiFi)

Hey Guys,
I have a 8125 from Cingular and when, when i try to log in to my work wireless network, after typying in my username, password and domain, it gets connected and as soon as it does message pops out saying: "cannot log on to the wirells network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you."
so pretty much i can't get connected, what should i do to resolve that?
Here are the network card settings for my work access:
Authentication: WPA
Data Encription: TKIP
802.1x
EAP type: PEAP
thanks
I have the exact same problem as you. I haven't been able to figure it out either. I believe my connection is LEAP though, not PEAP.
ive just set up my home network. I got everything working on the setup, main puter, 3 laptops, XDA mini s and XDA2i. I then added wpa psk with tkip. The laptops and the main puter all work fine but both the XDA's with the password entered just sit there either saying connecting or netwok available. They will not connect. Very very frustrating.
Pete
For some reason using PEAP on a Windows Mobile device requires you to have a Client Certificate installed on the device as well as the server certificate. Luckily the Wizard has a certificate enrollment utility built in (Settings, Connections, Wireless LAN). Make sure the certificate template 'ClientAuth' is enabled on the CA Server.
Obviously you need to enroll whilst the Wizard is connected to your PC and on the network.....

How to connect to my univerisity wireless network?

Hi there
I want to connect to my universities wireless network.
The requirements the want are;
Root Certificate installed (I've already installed)
a client device that supports the wireless authentication mechanism, 802.1x/PEAP. (This bit is which I am not sure that the Exec has)
----------------------------------------------------------
Part of the configuation instructions provided by the university
Network name (SSID) = ****-student
Network Authentication = WPA
Data encryption = TKIP
If you do not see an option for WPA then the
software for your network card might need
updating. Please consult the manufacturers
documentation on how to do this.
---------------------------------------------
Is there a way that I can get a patch or something or is it still possible to access my universities wireless network?
I've got a o2 XDA Exec
Many thanks for your help guys
In my previous university, the MAC of the WiFi network needs to be registered before you can use it, even you have all the username or password. First I didn't notice this because other friends got their notebook connected without registering their WiFi cards. And only later, I notice that since they bought their notebook via the university, the MAC is already registered. Double check with your uni IT guys.
Also, check if they have WiFi B support. You may need to check if your phone is capable of using G. There are solution for *some phone to enable G, search.
OK it seems to connect but I need to install my university root certificate on my universal.
How do I do that?
Thanks
