Pocket TV - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I love this thing more an more. Just downloaded free pocket tv, and I am just amazed by the quality and ease of use.
I will be on the search for lots of MPEG and a larger memory card as 256 will not be enough for now.
I love this forum

Where did you download this program ? Link?

video format?

well, im going to china for 2 weeks and want to put a bunch of videos/movies on my 8125 (NBD v8.2)...i have a 2 gig card in, and i was wondering what the best format to convert all the videos i got as to have a smallest size and still maintain decent quality.
thanks in advance!
Divx seems to work the best for me. While you're reformatting them you can also reformat their size to fit your wizard which will also cut some of the size out of it for you.
if you have your notebook with a DVD drive with you ... you may save time by just buying some movies from the local DVD shops (at least in the major cities in China there are plenty everywhere) ...
Divx is good. also us Xvid. Use PockeDivxEncoder. 320 x 240 and try so tests with lowering the quality, that will let you find the best Size - Quality ratio for you. If I were going for 2 weeks I would probably get an extra DS card and put more movies on it.
Hey while you're in China pick up one of those knock-off iPhones for me
p.s. - I have been able to crunch my movies to between 200 -300 mb.

Videos

I want to watch some videos on my Touch 64/128, but 1 video is about 700MB.
Witch program should I use and do I have to convert it to some other format (not .avi)?
Thanks!

Very easy.
Just install a Pocket PC Video Converter application onto your PC such as, Apex Free Pocket PC Video Converter.
Then use this application to transform or convert all video files to PDA playable format.
Of course, afterwards, you need to copy the outcome to PDA to play..

Problem!!!
One question.
I want to convert a 700mb movie, but the trial versions won't let me convert it!!!
Is somewhere a full version? (FREEE)
the best tool for converting video is Spb Mobile DVD it has very good converting profiles and for tcpmp also and you can decide if you want to cut 16:9 or 4:3 but its not for free. you should buy it or use google to gain it, maybe you get it..
the video size decrease to ~270mb for 1 hour movie

Look into some free alternatives that will transcode videos. Try Super, MediaCoder, or PocketDivXEncoder.
Youtube
thanks hotmail!
Can I watch youtube videos with TCPMP player???
Here's what i do
I use DVDshrink (freeware) to rip the main bits off a dvd to my hard drive
I then use AutoGordianKnot (AutoGK) Freeware to convert the dvd rip into an avi and play it using TCMP or coreplayer.
I've ripped Monsters Inc entire movie into 400k and it's perfectly watchable!

Yes indeed, TCPMP will play Youtube videos. Funny... I just posted on this very subject in another thread. Go figure.

400k!!!! That's some SERIOUS compression. I'll have to blow the dust off my old 3.5" floppy disk drive and start using it for movie storage. Are you sure it wasn't 400MB? That'd be typical of high quality Xvid, Divx or WMV compression at or lower than 640x480.

Could you tell me how did you do this? (Step by Step)
I have a few 700mb movies on my computer and I want them on my ppc, but they are too big. So if you could post here how did you do this, then I will be vey happy!!!
Hi there.
I'm very interested in bying this HTC Touch, basicaly for it portability but i'm very concerned about it CPU and general perfomance.
I now have the HTC 3600 and i'm very happy with it's perfomance. My usage is normal, not many programs at the same time but i like to see some movies some times and i'll like to use TomTom via bluetooth if i bye the touch.
What do you think? Am i get perfomance issues with tomtom or to see some movies?
Thanks in advance!
matumartin14 - I've had very good results using pocketdivxencoder (0.3.96). I've converted several DVD's (VOBs), divx movies and divx tv shows for use on my Elfin. I have a lot of experience using old school tools, but pocketdivxencoder does everything I need fast and painlessly. I can whip up a short guide if you like.
Hugo RSF - I've actually been fairly impressed with the video performance of the Elfin. For years I used a Dell X5 basic which has a 300MHz Xscale (overclockable to 400MHz) and I've notice no loss of performance with my 201 MHz OMAP, other than the smaller screen (2.8" vs 4.0").
I've used an external GPS with my Elfin on several occasions (using Nav4all), but never TomTom so I couldn't comment on that.
Prism Video Encoder also works well. Basically convert anything to anything and wickedly simple to use. Usually convert to MP4 and Elf plays them in good quality no problem at all.

If I have a 700mb movie and i convert it, then how small would it be??? MB???
Depends on the quality of the video and audio that you can live with. A full length movie can be compressed down to around 165 MB and still be fairly watchable if your hurting for space. I'm pretty picky about quality and shoot for around 250 to 350 MB for a full length movie.
I'm in the process of converting X-Files episodes and so far they are ending up around 110 MB in size (approx. 45 min each).
You can get much better compression with MP4 (h.264), but from what I can tell, the Elfin is too slow to decode h.264 without dropping frames. My h.264 testing was done using streams created by RipBot and meGUI.
As far as a conversion guide, should I start a new thread or just post one here?

I've purchased DVDs (strictly legal) and want to view them on my Touch - but can't with this software. I have a package to convert DVD to iPod format, but the playback on the Touch is jerky.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just post here
TheNorm - Your correct in that PocketDivxEncoder cannot convert directly from an encrypted DVD. You would require a separate tool to first 'rip' the DVD to your HD. (DVDFab HD Decrypter is the best by the way, www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/225/59/). Also if you happen to own DVDFab HD Decrypter Platinum, it will do DVD to Divx all in one step.
As far as your iPod tool, it is converting your DVDs to MP4 (AVC/H.264). Although CorePlayer can handle H.264 videos, the Elf/Elfin OMAP 850 can't quite decode videos in the format fast enough. If you disable the AVC deblocking filter in CorePlayer, you will get better performance at the loss of quality which may help the jerkiness.
Menu/Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Disable AVC deblocking filter
Also ensure you are using 'Raw FrameBuffer' under the Video settings. This is all assuming your using CorePlayer. AVC deblocking can not be disabled in TCPMP.

Converting Movies - Life's too short

Right, I do not want to spend anymore time trying to convert Movies from DVDs from my (small) collection, all of which I've already seen.
Can anyone recommend a legitimate movie download site that has the following:
Movies pre-formatted for the HD2 (Size and Format)
Good quality
Wide selection
Fast Downloads
I really liked the fact that you could pay for and download a wide selection of movies, pre-formatted for the Iphone (no joining VOBs, no out-of-sync audio, no already watched films) from Itunes.
Is there such a paid-for service available for the HD2 please?
In a word, no. In two - Not yet.
I know what you mean - But as I remember the iPhone iTunes selection was really restrictive on titles and quality...a bit like the Xbox selection currently available on Live.
However, I did really like the convenience...if not the prices!
Now I just use CorePlayer on the HD2 and it copes with 99% of my current rips in any format I have them - no converting needed.
Rumour has it that MS will be tying the WM7 platform into the Xbox gaming platform in the not-so-near (a year or 2?) future...in which case we will be undoubtedly get a portal from where we will download all our games, apps, video etc...like iTunes and the App store. Until that day, we on our own - which is fine by me since I hated iTunes and my iPhone!
Ah right. OK. Thanks. Well...that's that then I suppose.
Why convert? All my videos play fine ripped straight from the DVD on my TP2. Given that the Leo is more powerful, why would you convert a DVD that is already 480 lines of resolution (and you have 480 lines of resolution on your phone)?

Everone's Gone to the Movies

I get inspired every once in a while to convert some full length movies, and put them on whatever phone I have at the time. I have had mixed success (mixed failures?) and would like to see what people are doing that actually works!
I grabbed a couple of Blockbuster on Demand Movies (The two free ones that are offerred to HD2 Owners, plus a couple I paid for. They were formatted horribly, sounds was just acceptable, and like others, I was hoping for the kind of product that the Transformer conversions were. No such luck. Blockbuster, being A MOVIE RETAILER, does not deem information such as "Screen Format" or "Sound Encoding" to be important enough to share with us. The 4 films I have viewed were "Widescreen Format" but, since 800x640 is not 16:9, you end up with two very noticable black bands top & bottom of the screen. Try showing off your HD2, only to have some wiseass 8 year old comment "How come it doesn't fill the screen?" t seems like the wiseass 8 year old has a better sense of what's right than the wizards at Blockbuster (Using "Roxio Cinema Now" technology)
Okay, so much for delivering content to the "Hardest working Screen in the Business" Who then has a tried and true method for converting Ripped DVDs into our beautiful media device? I don't have the patience to try this and that ripper, this and that converter, get the demos, look at 5 minutes of video, or have a huge watermark all while NOT getting a nice conversion to begin with. What I dream of is a 2-3 step process, not a 8-10 step process, that I have to lord over the whole time. I would GLADLY pay for a properly done ripper/converter so I could simply watch a movie on this device that was made to do just that.
I also would like to know.
Have you thought of using TCPMP? (project is somewhere in this site) I just copy over movies (Xvid AVIs) and they play just fine.
1clickDVDConverter
1ClickMovie
AnyDVD + Handbrake (Handbrake is free and excellent, but you need a proggy like Anydvd for...backing up your movies).

DVD Fab platinum
this is the program that i use to put movies in my gadgets... I've put 10s movies in my htc hd2. try it, it has a very simple GUI, and the results is very nice too..
and just a little more detail, you can set up the resolutions output too so it will match the HD2 screen.
for the hd2, i converted my dvd to generic mp4.

Same here, using DVD Fab... It is FABulous to use.
i just use handbreak. it works really well. im currently using a profile i made that is bassicaly the iphone/ipodtouch preset with the resolution set to 800x48 for hi def and whatever the size is on lower def videos. i also have custom anamorphic which is set at
xxx = width if source file or 800 whichever is greater
800
800
i also have keep aspect ratio off.
on a test of the start trek blu ray i was able to full my screen with the people looking normal and not cutting anything off anything.
i have it on average bit rate of 640 with 2 pas and turbo 1st pass. with audio at 128. the movies look really good to me. Just for comparison the transformers movies weren't all that great looking on my pc at all. they look grainy and for that they are not really utilizing all the bandwidth they are consuming.
with these setting i am very happy of the video quality on my HD2 and the audio is also very good. I also didnt like the blockbuster offering. at these settings it is about 350mb per hour and thats including audio.
To make it with my same exact setting all you need to do is select the iPhone/iPod touch presert, make the resolution say 800x480 or whatever the max is allowed, just dont pass 800 x 480. the anamorphic is set to custom with
800
800
800.
look at the screen shot.
Good luck
Well as noted above, I had been using Handbrake, but my ripping mates have come up with a program that already had the HTC HD2 in mind.
A freeware coverter with an actual preset specific for the HTC HD2 and it works just fine my friends.
The proggy is called: Xmedia Recode 2.2.3.2
http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloads_counter.php?programid=47942
Choose HTC model.
Choose the HD2
Choose your video prefs.
Much love.

123 movies to mobile

123 movies to mobile is a fantastic program for burning dvds to your phone.
It takes some time but is well worth the $15.00....i burned the standard avatar dvd and put it on my phone to compare....the difference was....i dont know...i cant see the difference,so i burned a few more movies and they too were absolutely perfect, infact i think they are more crisp on my phone than on the tv
