Tip: Start menu color - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Dear all,
in WM2003 i couldn't use many good today themes (Horizon is a good example) because the text color turns to white for the unselected items. It seems that's why all MS themes are using white text on a dark image so the start menu text will be reversed to black. I thought that MS implemented the 'contextual revers logic' but seems they didn't want to pay extra effort
Anyway, for the users of XDA I with WM2003 (may be it's solved in XDA II) you can solve this issue by modifying the following registery key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color
if it doesn't have, add a new 'binary' entry as following:
name: 39
value: 50 50 50 00
this should give you a readable menu text for the most themes that has light background.
Enjoy it ...

That works even for the ROM-upraded XDA II !! Thanks a lot. only if you change the today theme, the new binary code 39 is missing and you have to get it into "COLOR" again...?!

Yes! .. this is true ... but if the theme .tsk file was built while color #39 was included in the theme.inf file, you wouldn't need to re-adjust it.
Unfort. there is no theme generator for PPC2002 that takes this field into account, and I couldn't find one works for WM2003 in specific :?
However, you can write a very tiny program to run after changing the theme to adjust this registry value ... or to put it in the \windows\startup directory.

it works
Thanks for the tip Biso007! It works
No more transparent menu items

Thank you
Thank you Bisso we needed that tip
But still you can use Pocket Theme manager 2 from BVRP www.bvrp.com they solved this issue thus for whom are having problem with the today pictures you can adjust the colors to 4096 [/url]

You can also try this:
http://www.funnysnake.com/products_tkcreater.php
It's free, and the last relese works with ppc 2003 themes too.

Sorry for my ignorance, but where do I find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color
Waht software do I need to gain acces to this registry?

PHM registry editor is a very good one

Great tip, was wondering how to do this for some time. Thanks,
db

great tip, just what I was looking for
is there any way to change it to any thing other then black or white?

How to change "shadowness" of background?

Can´t seem to remember how to change the "shadowness" i.e. the clearness of the choosen beckground picture. I know this is possible but just can´t figure out how..
Thankful for help!
Anyone that knows... Still need to find out how to do!
You mean by creating a new background for use with Today > Theme? Just use a paint program for that.
Otherwise, there's registry hacks available to change the colour of the lines on some screens, i think tweak2knet can do it.
V
Actually what I mean is when you go to settings>Today and then choose a picture as the background. There is a way that you can change the clearness of that picture once you choosen it. Just can´t remember how to do it. Its very simple and you don´t need a twitch or anything to do it...
Hope that somebody knows what I´m talking about before I start to think that I´m hallucinating!
dont worry emil73 your not going mad lol!
open the picture using the pictures program (its built in to all pocket pc's I think?) then choose set as today screen, a dialogue then lets you set the transparency level.
hope thats some help?

THANK YOU ROB!!!
For giving back my sanity...
Works great.
No problem
I think MS theme generator will let you do the same when creating themes with a pc.
tweaks2k is also good if you want to change the txt/lines colour on the today screen.
R
slightly related to this,
Does anyone know how to change the colour of the text on the start menu?
On some of my light themes the text is white, when it would be easier to see when it was black.
Imp
try cetuner to do theme editing on your device.
V
Just tried out the MS theme generator and just LOVED IT! But there is a bíg but... Trying to copy it to the device I realized that the theme generator program only worls with Windows Mobile 2002 only.
Is this right or can I find another version for the 2003 edition?!?!?!
I just have to get that....
It does work for WM2003 too.
YOu can use the Theme editor with WM2003, you just need to copy the theme file you just created manually to the PDA.

WM5 Themes "Origami Suite" (ROM 2.17 or higher)

Have you ever taken a look at the gallery section over on www.origamiproject.com ? It's filled with a bunch of pretty nice-looking wallpapers for UMPCs, but UMPCs aren't available until much later, rendering these small wallpapers useless... until now. I've picked ten different images from that gallery and customized themes for each of them (creating eleven themes total). I also enhanced the themes to fit in with a somewhat universal layout for the today screen.
Keep in mind that these themes are designed for Wizard users with the latest Qtek ROM (2.17 or higher) installed! The reason I say this is because the date on the today screen takes up two lines in the newer ROM, and the today screen background reflects the position of the date bar. If you're confused, take a look at the previews below, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, as I was saying before, each theme has carefully selected colors to best match their backgrounds, and all of them work in both portrait and landscape mode. I tried my hardest to smooth out the gradients that sometimes give problems on PPC screens. Oh, and I also thought of a cheezy name for each one. The previews along with a ZIP of all the themes are attached to this post, so go crazy. And if you haven't updated to the latest ROM yet, shame on you. Go do it, you won't regret it.
P.S. - If anybody knows how to skin the Phone screen (where you dial the number and everything), PLEASE let me know. It really, really clashes with a lot of these themes...
AND... if anybody knows how to make the date take up only one line, move the clock to the top, and put the battery back at the bottom, that would be amazing. That way I could re-make all these themes so that they could work with EVERYBODY that has a WM5 device!
very nice. just applied the first theme on my exec
Great job with the themes! I hope you are able to find out about skinning the phone screen and reducing the Date Bar to one line.
Beautiful yanathin! Thanks for putting the effort into these great themes.
very clean look you have going on there.
Are those icons along the bottom just regular shortcuts? If so I'm gonna have to look into how to do that myself.
great work!
Thanks for the compliments everybody! Yes, the bottom basically acts like SBSH iLauncher or SPB Pocket Plus's launcher. It's a single part of the PHM PowerToys ( http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/ ) called "TrayLaunch." You'd be utterly amazed at how fast this device runs WITHOUT SPB Pocket Plus installed, even without a "real" close button.
Amazing themes and even better work yanathin!!
Yes great work !
Thanks
Really nice ones, allready installed, thx !
change background dialpad
I haven't found a way to change the keys of the dialpad yet but i have a simple way to change the background of your dialpad in combination with plain darkgrey keys:
Download the attached file and run it on your mobile to get the darkgrey "keys" from Vodafone, these keys match best with whatever background you want to use:
(file is also at: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Misc/Vodafone_dialpad.zip)
Next you create in MS Paint / Photoshop or whatever program you like, two BMP image files with the following properties, you can use any file as background.
- name: "Bkgnd_Port.bmp" / resolution: 240x268 pixels (portrait)
- name: "Bkgnd_Land.bmp" / resolution: 320x188 pixels (landscape)
Copy these files to the \windows folder on your mobile and overwrite the existing vodafone skin.
After a soft-reset your dialpad has changed!
I changed mine to plain gray:
I love those themes!
for dialpad skins, take a look at http://www.zombienexus.net/
thanks for sharing. here's a link to some of my simple themes.

As far as i know it's a cab from German Vodafone. It works perfectly with my Dutch NL ROM, therefor i think it should also work with a WWE ROM because it just gets the language of the ROM-version.

WM5 Basecolour/hue etc with ThemeGenCE

I've had a play with Themegen ce, and read the help file. I've also read the info here.
But...I still dont get it
Can someone explain what it is I need to do (from within themegen?) to be able to change the colour of the top start bar, and bottom bar in order to match me theme?
thanks!
BaseHue
With WM5 :
See Help File ThemeGenCEEn.chm which is given with the application.
Click on ThemeGenCE job button.
Click on Key BaseHue in the index of the page.
And you see all explanations for this key.
Don't forget to check the checkbox Create BaseHue Key for the theme and leave the Form by clicking on Validate button, if not BaseHue will not be integrated in the theme.
Thanks again benthon for a great piece of software. It seems to be almost complete now and all wm5 tweaks are possible. It seems a bit back to front though can the wm5 settings be default and not the wm 2003 or an option to change this - as more and more devices are wm5.
Cheers
p.s. can you give us any hints on upcoming revisions?
Thanks for your encouragements !
If i have time this summer, i will do a version with WM5 settings by default.
I will give you informations about this.
Forum.xda-developers was a great help for me to develop and improve ThemeGenCE !
Cheers as you said and friendly, BenThon.

Schap tweak

I just got my HD and is brilliant !
Does anyone know if we can use Schap`s tweak on the HD ?
First thing I installed after Net3.5, runs all ok without any problems so it seems.
Have set all the tweaks I'd done for the Diamond and it restarted fine, also changed the icons to 4 across and that's fine too..
Schaps 3.3 I installed.
ooh can we see a screenshot of the 4 column version of programs on the HD? You would probably hardly need to scroll as everything would be on one page.
Aye, I'll upload when I get home
Here's a screen shot - I use the cab file to make this change though not the Config tools

THANK you
If you have a registry editor you can also add the settings yourself:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\
Add New Key “IconConfig”
In there Add DWORD Value:
“HorizontalIconSpacing” Dec value=”112″
“VerticalIconSpacing” Dec value=”115″
“IconTitleFontSize” Dec value=”6″
then softreset - voila!
You can use Schaps too to do the change, the settings are under the user settings at the top. Just change the values to the ones above..
Just tried it with Schaps ACTool and it workedd perfectly
Thanks to Trixster101 for the hint!

Good tweak. Thanks for the tip.
Has anyone tried to put 5 icons per row? If so, what should be the values of those registry?
Edit: yes. I now have six icons per row.
I have horizontal spacing : 75
Vertical spacing :115
Icon size:5

I use the Advanced Config v3.3 and its wonderful . I have managed to set my opening animated gif from HTC to my own ones and with my own WAV audio file and to rename my Bluetooth name to what I want... That tool is epic and very easy to use.
As it warns tho, be careful because improper use can much up your phone. Im very happy with my new customisations.

Howto change default green selection color to grey?

Hi
Does anyone know what registry keys and values have to be changed to make the default green selection to grey?
Cheers,
TheWizzard
PS! I already did this:
________________________________________
Below registry changes will allow you to change the highlight color in the start menu and other windows from green to grey. Assumes you are running the HTC Black theme.
HKCU/software/microsoft/today/HTC Black.tsk
change "Color_Highlight" value to 77 77 77 00
HKLM/software/microsoft/color
change "33" and "34" values to 77 77 77 00
change "BaseHue" value to 160
Below registry change will change the dialpad highlight color from green to grey. Assumes you use the default Diamond dialer.
HKLM/software/HTC/PHONE
change "highlightColor" hex value to 777777
But this only changes all selections outside of the new TF3D2, not in TF3D itself. For instance, the green selection color if I want to change the time, is still in green.
V ery interesting request... but I've one question why Only Gray? we can request to have a program to change the color with multiple choice of colors
Well, grey because, imho, that fits best with the HTC Black theme. But that might be personal.
You must change all the assotiated manilla files that are related to the highlight color. Go to the Touch HD forum and find a change the selected color cab to your liking that will do the trick for you the highlighter color manila files are the same for both phones so no conflict. but DO NOT try running a full theme from the HD as it will not work properly.
Unfortunately the dailer will not change with that fix tho as I am still looking into this myself the dialer on the Rhodium is being a bit stubborn to allow me to skin it fully.

This quote seems to indicate there may be a utility for some phones to do it for me. I hate the stock green but don't want to re-rom the entire phone just to get orange or other coloured highlights. I searched "change color cab" here and found only this thread.
Is there a Pro2 utility?
using ur registry will be too much just to change the color or your themes. why dont you use basehue much faster and better with multi selections. all you do is extract the folder and move the basehue.exe file to \windows\start menu folder and your good.
heres the file:
That changes very little... Most of the highlights are still green. I was excited... briefly.

Hi:
Sorry to ask dumb questions, but will this work on WM 6.5, TF3D2.1?
Thanks!
No idea... but it is a utility so if it doesn't work, you un-install it without any issues.
Thanks. I used it, and it didn't seem to change anything.
I am trying to get rid of the blue buttons on my Tilt 2. By buttons I mean the ones above the slider in my screenshot on the contacts tab, or the play etc. buttons in the music tab.
Any ideas, or suggestions?
Thanks again!

These files are all PNG files embedded within your manila files.
These must be first extracted / edited / replaced back into manila and then copied back to your \windows dir.
copy \windows\*_manila to your pc (they are system and hidden so use Resco Explorer or similar
Look for CFC on here..and download it.
Run CFC / explore to your manila backup dir.
now scroll till you find your culrpit files..and extract
edit the file in a paint prog of your choice.
back to cfc
choose replace.
choose edited file.
and then exit cfc
once done... you sort all your manila files by date and you will find the manila files you edited.
copy first to your wm device \temp
then use resco explorer on device to copy from \temp to \windows
replace and reboot your device
all is done.
i found this thread at PPCGeeks.
the cab file in the 3rd post work for me on my touch pro 2
