Socket SDIO WiFi = Piece of sh_t... - Networking

I have spent all day trying to gret this damn card to connect, I have an openetwork, no wep, and no luck. I use Pockewt WiNc to see, and to try an lock on but to to no avail. o support from Socket or Sandisk, Socket has one forum though, and people hate it. So Be warned!!
Has anyone else experienced such difficulties, and has anyone used say Sandisk drivers on a Socket card or vice versa? (I gather the sandisk sdio is the same nightmare though this technology was not ready and should never have been put out. ) Any help appreciated.

did you try putting in a static address?
i have had trouble with it dhcp 'ing properly..it either gets it but no dns or it doens't get it at all...also try to not use wince..i have had only marginal success with it..sometimes when i have a connection and start winc, i lose the connection and can't get it back.

Static address
OK I'll try that, but what is a static address and how do I know which one to use, is there a generic one? Also, where do I put it in, is it under network card?

it looks like it may be a different problem...
you should ship it back to them and get a refund.

got, it was PocketWiNc
Someone managed to figure ut out, it's that Pocket WiNc that caused all of this. all i had to do was turn it off. thanks for the helo, mc

SD-Link11b wireless LAN SDIO card 802.11b

I have recently bought one of these on ebay for my Qtek 2020
Here is a link to a similar sale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3728&item=5716896682
So far the card has worked fine. It connects to my Access point at home (I have a Belkin 54g AP) and I have also connected it in ad-hoc mode to my laptop using a D-Link 54g PC Card. No indication of battery life effects yet, but the card does get warm in use.
I have failed so far to get ActiveSync to connect over the network, but that just might be a firewall issue with my company laptop. I can browse the laptop hard disc without trouble and stream mp3's to the PDA fine.
If only Pocket PC2003 network settings was a bit more user freindly!
The SanDisk card has two problems that are really annoying. Can you tell me if this card:
1. Can connect to WPA-protected access points?
2. If you remove the card, and re-insert it, will it work without having to reset the device?
WPA access is supported in the application, but I haven't tried it as I use MAC address control on my home AP. I could give it a try if you need it tested.
I can remove and replace the card and it reconnects without having to do a reset. If you replace it very quickly after removing it it will get confused, but I guess that's not unreasonable.
That's much better than the Sandisk. You have to reset the device if you remove it and want to use it again. And tech support says that is normal! Idiots. The Sandisk also doesn't support WPA. The application says it does, and it will take the key, but it doesn't work. Once again, Sandisk support says that is normal.
So...if you have some time to try out WPA at some point, it would be very useful to know.

Safecom SDIO Wifi/Linksys 80211b Won't Play Nicely Together!

I hope someone can help as this is sending me potty . For the past three weeks I have been trying to set up my XDAII to work with a Safecom SDIO Wifi card. It works fine outside the house, can pick up public networks, can pick up the work network in work - no problem. It can even pick up my home wifi router and connects (with WEP key) - lets me access for one or two pages, then locks me out with the blank page problem (discussed elsewhere on here).
I have tried switching off WEP protection on the router - connects no problem for first page or so, then no connection from then on.
In the Safecom utility, it never lets me set the AP (nothing comes up when clicking the button, even where I know the system works and is not WEP protected).
I have installed Hitchhiker and that again picks up the network, then keeps "looping" (my term) trying to connect and assign an IP.
I have tried setting the IP to static on the router, switched off WEP and switched on locking to specific MAC addresses - still same problem.
Does anyone know a solution to this please?
ROM 1.72.00WWE (date 3/15/04)
Radio 1.17.00
Protocol 1337.28
Ext Rom 1.72.181
All these came with an o2 update off their site.
Many thanks

update
After more frustration I have hard reset my XDAII and reinstalled the driver. it works first time (after putting in the WEP key), but after a few minutes/pages it drops the connection (or rather, it claims to be still connected but the green light flashes like crazy and I get the blank page error again!).
Taking out the wifi card and putting it back in makes the connection again .. then drops again and I can go through this ad infinitum. This is better than before but most annoying having to reset wifi every few webpages.
Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this please?
Many thanks

Does anyone have a solution for this please? The error has returned and drops the connection after successfully pulling in one page (solid green light, then immediately starts flashing and will only go to another page after switching off and one, or popping out the wifi card.
Many thanks

I have the same problem with a 802.11G card and a Magician.
Led stays connected all the time, and I have to pop the card off and put it on again, for it to work.
The card works perfectly on my HP5500, and hangs on both mine and my friend magician (his has 128megs ram).
I think the problem is a bug in SDIO driver on the PDA.

Help please, no hair left!! SD WIFI CARD

Hi I am having a problem, did a search but still could not find an answer to fix it.
Okay received a SD WIFI Card today for my XDA 11. Loaded drivers and using the utility it connects to a signal - good, first hurdle negotiated.
When I come to try and connect Internet explorer or Opera all I get is "cannot load page".
I believe I have to do something with the settings-connections-menu but that's when I get flummoxed as I don't know what to click or do.My ISP or my work something?
I would be eternally grateful if someone could point this idiot in the right direction - and here was me thinking the hard bit would be getting the SD WIFI card to work.

Is that it?
I was expecting a couple of sentences of do this, do that. If that is all i'll give it a try Rudegar. Thanks
On both connections choose My Work Connection.
You might have to enter DNS servers for the wifi card as well. Use the same you use in your computer.
Doesn't seem to work - keeps saying this page cannot be loaded.
It's as if IE doesn't know it's supposed to use the WIFI connection? Told you I was an idiot when it comes to things like this.
i would use the installable ms network tools
to try and ping things and such
otherwise wifi on ppc is alot like on pc
if you dont feel comfortable with it
then maybe you could get somebody
who is to help you irl ?
Thanks, I think the problem is that the signal is too weak.
sdio wifi card on xda II - solution
ive read a couple of times people having issues with thier sd wifi cards one of the fixes had been to have a part of your hand NEAR the wifi card (the built in antanna just cant pull a strong signal all the time). make sure that both your sd wifi card and your wifi router is using the same network key and has the DHCP server enabled. last and maybe not least - if you xda is using windows mobile 2003se or less you will see "page not found" message often becuse the browser had tried to load a page requiring a java or active x- control and cant load. This is equivelent to the 404 Page not Found. Upgrade if you need to.

Wifi doesn't work on my Acer n311

Hello everyone
I got a Acer n311 yesterday and I'm very happy but I've got a big problem with the Wifi.
I can turn it on so I guess it's not an hardware issue and it recognize my personnal Wifi (it appears in the available access point list). But when I try to connect to this network, status become 'connecting' for 5 seconds and then it goes back to 'available' without showing any message. Of course, I can't connect to the Internet
My network is password protected but i also putted my router into 'no-password mode' but it doesn't changed anything.
I don't know what to do :s
Thanks in advance for your help
PS: Sorry for my bad English
many wifi routers don't play nicely with mobile devices
unless one update the routers firmware to the latests
and they update them continuously
luckey it's pretty easy to update router firmware
Thanks Rudegar
I'm contacting USRobotics by email. I'm gonna wait their answer but I hope it's not the reason I can't access.
However, I don't think that is the cause because I've got an iPod Touch and there is no problem connecting with it.
Waiting...
mailing the router maker to ask about such things is
kinda like mailing your tv cable dealer to ask wahts on the telly
at best you will get a reply in a few weeks linking to the firmware
you could find in mins youself on their site
one thing you could try is to pull the plug of the router for 10sec or something like that
many routers dhcp get a bit crazy after awhile
and of cause troubleshoot trying to connect to friends and public wifi's
I just received their answer now and there are telling that it is a security problem on my routeur. Of course, it doesn't help me at all
My routeur is automaticaly unplugged at midnight so unplug is not the solution but I'm going to try to connect to a public wifi when I'll find one.
I'll let you know if it works
Thanks again

I've similar problem with my n311 in WM6, except that with security off, I can connect, otherwise I can't even see the SSID of the router. I checked with different brand and netgear seems the worst.
This is something I'd experienced with my SE Xperia X1 with the same OS.

Broken Wifi? And Skype not working?

Hi all I got the US HD2 when it first came out and since then I have been very happy with it. But just now for some reason it won't connect to my home wifi anymore. It worked this morning but then like an hour ago it just won't work. I did a hard reset and the problem still exists. Any chance that this is caused by maybe a overheat or anything like that? Or maybe it's time for me to go back to the store and get another one?
Also I tried so hard to get Skype for Windows Mobile working on it but no luck. I searched online and saw people saying it is working but for some reason it just won't connect at all. I managed to get to the login screen, type in the info and then click sign in. Then it just stayed at the Skype logging in screen with the rotating blue circle. After a minute or 2 an error pops up saying there is error connecting please check data connection. I tried to do this with wifi, 3g, and ActiveSync and they all got the same result. So anyone got any idea about why? I really need to have Skype working on my phone as I need to have a foreign number.
Thank you all
the other day I was trying to connect to wifi after trying to use the 'share internet' tethering option...and it just kept loading over and over (the wifi sign) and it would not connect....
I flashed it back to stock and then flashed it to the latest energy rom now it seems fine..but I have not tried the tethering option yet, maybe that has something to do with it... not sure..
I figured out the WiFi problem. It turns out that I turned turned the encryption of my router from tkip to aes by accident and the HD2 doesn't work on aes. But I am still having trouble connecting to Skype... Anyone got amy luck? Or perhaps can somebody who managed to get Skype working help me out a bit?
Here's my WiFi issue...
My HD2 shows that it is connected but there is no data flow. I have a Linksys WRT610n router which is PW secure. I also have a HTC S743 that connects with no issues. I'm having a WTF red alert here... any help would draw 2 quarts of blood from me for payment, which you could sell for crack money. Anyone?

Yeah I got it.. I slipped the sim card out and then reinsert it, I noticed it went in just a tad deeper, it did the trick. WiFi is now working. The world can continue to spin. Carry on...
