Changing the boot screen/image - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I did a search on the forums but could find an answer to my question, so here goes...
I upgraded my device to the latest kitchen WM2003. Everything works fine, but when I turn on the device I get an annoying splash screen that says "Test Only - Not for Sale". Is there any way to replace or disable that screen?
TIA.

Try cooking your ROM at http://www.romkitchen.de where there is an option to select your boot image or even leave it as blank.

Is there any way to put a custom boot image in a cooked ROM?

Thanks for the reply. I went to the page, but apparently there are some errors on it and it won't display a "Submit" button to cook the ROM. I tried it in IE and NS. Oh well... :?

This isn't an error.
On the right side of the screen you can see the hint, that the kitchen is not available all the time to cook a rom. And if this is the case, there is no Submit-Button....

PS: Try it in about 2 hours again...

My bad. Although, if you hit the page with IE you get a bunch of java errors that pop-up.
Anyway, I'll try again later.

Help with my Bricked 8125

I think my 8125 is bricked. I've never had a problem flashing roms until yesterday I tried Farias Kitchen ROM. I flashing went through ok like normal, but when it restarted, it gets a little bit after the second splash screen. The green windows mobile with farias names at the bottom loads, then the topbar of windows mobile loads with the start button, but then nothing else.
I've tried reflashing it in forced bootload mode as well as doing a hard reset. no luck. The update utility keeps telling me that it is an invalid update tool, please get a newer update utility. I've tried taking the battery out for a while and from there doing forced bootloader. Still no luck
Any suggestions?

What are you trying to re-flash it with in the BL?
You should be able to flash the loverom without a problem.

Thanks, I'm gonna download it right now and try it. What is different about this ROM than any of the cooked roms I have already as well as and official one. All of them in past have worked for me without a problem until now.

Well, it sounds like it may have just been a bad casserole you cooked.
But, you could probably even re-flash using your carrier ROM. This one is just a fool-proof way to get you back on your feet. This ROM is just G3/G4 independent and doesn't include a radio, ipl/spl, or extrom.

Nope, just tried flashing that ROM mentioned above, and still the same answer. It keeps telling me that I need to get a new update utility. That is so weird because I never had that problem. I have already tried flashing the official as well with no luck.

I put the phone in bootload mode by pressing and holding the camera button, then resetting by pushing the reset hole which then loads it to a colorful screen which I assume is the bootloader screen. Then I just connect it and try to flash it using one of the ROMS i have. Thats how I did it the past couple of times.
What upgrade utility are you using? You might wanna try the one attached! It is the 'NO_ID' version and up to now it flashed everything! Simply extract the zip file to a folder on your desktop, then copy your nbf file in to it too and run the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe"
hello
im having the same problem, i just tried it, didnt work for me
Did you CID unlock your phone before trying to flash it? Did you also try to flash it with your shipped ROM again?
My phone also appears to be bricked. It locked at 99%, and after trying the steps indicated in the core2.0 installer, it closed, and I'm having difficulty figuring out the next step. As is, I get ERROR [264] CONNECTION. Is there a way to get the phone functional enough to load an OS? I've been searching these forums for about 30 minutes and haven't found what I'm looking for. There should be a recovery wiki.

First thing you could try is to flash it with your shipped ROM again (the one you had on there originally). If that does not work you might want to search the forum for the LOVE ROM ??? I never tried that one but people say it should worke on any device (G3 /G4).

Error 270

I really hate to make a bad first impression but...
No matter what I do I get this error. I was trying to HARDSPL the phone, I put it into boot loader mode, I installed all the .cab's . It starts the progress bar up gets to about 3% and the phone screen goes black and restarts and then ERROR 270 shows up in the RUU. I searched around but found nothing for the Herald about it. Just asking for any help as to what I can do.
Thank you in advance.

ok that was disabled. I enabled it, same problem.
Seems to be running Open Touch 5.0.
Just bought it off ebay.
Ok think I got it. Seems to be very hard to find a newbie guide for first timers of this sort of thing.
Found some files by ivanmmj and sifted through them. Found a USPL program that SID unlocked the phone, after that I was able to run HARD SPL, and everything was fine. Now my next step is to try to flash a ROM on it , wish me luck.
Think after all this work I'm going to try to write a guide for first timers like me to explain this stuff a little better.
If it had OpenTouch 5.0, it might have already been HardSPLed. Either way, I'm glad you found the answer yourself. It shows that you actually did your research.

That's really not a bad idea. I know I was EXTREMELY confused the first time I flashed my rom. It took me a lot of reading to finally understand RUU stood for rom update utility. You do know for some roms, it's not necessary to hard spl. I went from stock rom to open touch 3.0. What rom are you thinking about flashing to?
There's a walkthrough by me somewhere in the forums.

Unfortunately i'm having mayor problems with this O.S., It constanly freezes, if i'm writting a text it will go back to the home page without me doing anything, I have an outlook account every time I go to my e-mails to see them it freezes and it wont do anything else i have to reset the device.
Great looks, wont denie that, but it's just not working for me.
If someone could help me return my T-mobile wing back to O.G. settings.

I assume you flashed another ROM and not just installed TouchFlo onto your stock ROM? How did you flash the ROM, what ROM did you flash? Has the freezing always been this way since you flashed?
Sorry I can't give a ton of answers without more information.
ok ok .... to start out i'm a mayor nub when it comes to this..
onward, I saw a video on youtube with directions on how to flash your device...ok i plugged my T-mobile usb to my my laptop i downloaded a .rar file named "flashing with rapi enabled" It told me to put this rapi folder that was in the .rar file in my t-mobile documents,i extracted the file in desktop, double clicked it and this black box appeared with and started to to its thing.. thats it i think i flashed it DID I? The freezing started ever since i got it.
thanks for your prompt reply man appreciate it!!
Okay... The method you used is called a USPL flash. Is the device you are using a T-Mobile Wing?
EDIT: Just read your first post, nevermind about that question.
You have two choices here. You can flash back to the stock ROM... You can do this by downloading the T-Mo Stock ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321717 . Put the phone in bootloader by holding the camera button while pressing the stylus into the reset hole. Maker sure the phone is connected to your computer. Run the installer.
or
You can flash another ROM like JustStable v2 or JustHome. You can find more info here: http://thewingster.com/ivanmmj.aspx This is what I recommend as they are great and fast ROMs. A lot faster than the stock ROM. TO flash these, you can follow the same directions you saw in the video. Just replace the nbh file in the RUU folder with the one you download from that site. Note: You cannot flash any of the ROMs marked with LZX or Micro with the method you followed before
Thanks man! I honestly thank you!
just one last question:
on your NOTE ABOUT LZX OR MICRO ROMS how would i tell which is which? are the ROMS that you are recommending LZX OR MICRO? i really dont understand.
Thanks man!!

alright man u came to da right place
first if u still have ur touchflo rom installed then good
now hard reset the touchflo if it freezes try as many time as you can get to the point where it restarts
then when it restart connect ur wing to pc and download the pagepool size
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JB2AC9FD
then open it (make sure active sync is enabled)
then open it there are couple of .nb and .bat files
open 6mb or 8mb (which changes the pagepool)
6mb is recommened
on ur wing it going to ask to open some file
(on custom roms it wont ask)
so after dat then it should exit itself
then disconnect usb from pc and reset ur wing (use a pen or something pointy to press the reset button on the left under volume button)
Well miltus, u just got ur wing back!!!!!!!!!!
trust me it wont freeze anymore on start up or anyway
it might freeze if you keep sliding it back and forth
it will freeze if TOO many programs running in backround example if 20 programs running then yes it will freeze.
oh yeah if u still have official rom (4.10.2.523 something like that)
then this will work, only it will be faster!!!
oh yeah say thinks!!!!!!!
thanks for the feed back man appreciate it!! but i changed the TouchFlo for another ROM named JUSTHOME WORKS GREAT!!!
Thank you for your help!!!

If you want to try with just HSPL its quite easy all you need is HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex.exe
Download the HSPL Wrapper unzip it to say desktop on your pc
Put your phone in Bootloader (turn off phone hold volume down key while turning phone on you should have tricolour screen)
Plug your usb into phone
Left click on HSPL Wrapper you will get a box pop up with a picture of a phone follow the steps
Your phone will be ready to flash any new ROM after this process
New ROMS use the same set of steps Download a ROM Ie Duttys, Miri, NRGZ28 etc
Put your phone back into Bootloader again and connect USB
This time drag the NBH file into the wrapper included with the ROM you downloaded
Follow the same steps again
Takes about ten minutes
Take a look at the guide in my Signature and look for the HSPL Wrapper Olinex
its the first file attached in the post

Good Luck
Just dont drag NBH file into the Olinex wrapper
The ROM you choose should come with its own wrapper
If no wrapper with rom you can always use one attached

As with any updates, it gets to the progress bar and never moves from 0%. Then eventually it gives up and goes through the recovery process. And that's just doing the HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex update.

I know what this problem is. It's a USB issue. I had it last week and fixed it by changing from using the USB ports on the front of my PC to the ones on the back. Strange but it worked.
When you are in the bootloader is it showing USB connection when you have the USB lead attached? Mine was just showing blank before I changed ports.
Woohoo!!!!!
Just managed to flash it. Had to do the manual SSPL first, then after that, it all worked a treat when following the steps.
As I've now used HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex, does that mean I can flash whenever I want?
Thanks for your help and advice everyone!!

Remove Boot Screen Branding

Does anyone know how to remove the boot up screen branding? I have installed custom roms, radio etc but it just will not go.
I searched the forum but cannot figure out what to search for as its not the welcome screen or start screen
Hi.
Chefs dont usually cook in a boot screen or radio when thay cook a rom so thats why it wont change. what u can do is flash an official rom from HTC and then it will change to a HTC boot screen. Or alternativley, have a look here....its awsome!!!!

well i know i will have something to do tonight, it looks fairly straight forward but also tempted to wait until the chefs release a new batch as it took me over an hour loading everything back and configuring.
thanks for the link

I ahve the same problem, the boot screens in the links happen after the boot screen that I want to replace, mine has a pink circle that I'd rather replace with something else, any ideas?

In that link, only part A is the actual splash screen (the nbh file, you flash it like a rom) that wont be overwritten by a custom rom.
B C and D are follow on screens that you instal via a cab and will be lost after a flash/hard reset.

As above, just flash an official rom. Im saying that coz i onced flashed a Rom which i faild to notice that it was a test rom, so the boot screen had a message saying that it was only for testing not for sale!. I flashed back to custom roms but it wouldn go.i looked for help but couldnt find anything until a friend over at the Topaz forum told me that it was something that chefs dont really cook into their roms. so i thought why not try an official rom? did just that and got back the HTC bootscreen. OK, enough of the sob story!
