IP Camera Images (Can access the site but no image) - Networking

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible change the settings on the XDA to allow the it to view IP cameras over the net? The cameras in question are Axis IP cameras. Here is a link for an example http://www.control-z-computers.com/ip_cameras.htm To view the cameras you need to download ACE Pocket explorer from http://www.axis.com/products/cam_ace/ The cameras are viewable through the software and not through IE. I have been able to view the demo cameras that come with the software but not any other cameras such as those on the link above. YApparently you also have to activate Active X in the XDA. Can this be done. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

I use ACE every day, i have 5 axis cameras it works very well, For me here in the UK i have tried many ways to see the image in a pocket IE rather than ACE because when i use ACE the XDA2 makes a web connection and costs lots of money, BUt we have free WAP and i am able to see the homepage my cameras make but not the image its self because no active x is installed , If i open ACE it starts a WEB connection
John

Thanks for your reply John,
So basically you are saying when you create a new camera in ACE and enter the URL in the properties section you can see the camera? When you use IE you can see the site but no Camera? Did you have to configure you camera & network (camera uplink) in a particar way to view the cameras? (notwithstanding port forwarding/mapping etc)

Morning, I have a fixed IP address at home, when i set up the axis cameras they each have a local IP address. I then set my router to port forward to to each camera
so in a web brouser you type http://my-ip-address:port number
this will load the camera home page (if you have not viewed a xais camera befor it will ask then install the i surpose active x or something like that) then the actiall image from the camera will appear
using ACE, you enter the ip address and then in the next box the port number, thats about it
So the cameras are set up in the normal way, but so see the picture from the camera on a PPC you need ACE, as IE just displays the home page but never the actial image
John

can you see the camera from the above link in ACE?
enter it like this
NETWORK ADDRESS: 81.86.66.171
PORT: 1035
You then check camera type (while connected to the web)
this will probley fail as the new axis camera is not known to ace
then view the camera
if you get no joy PM me and i will give you links to my axis 2100 to try
John

Good morning John.
Thanks again for your reply.
My 2120 works fine on my local (512/512) network and I have viewed it outside the LAN as well as on other PC's as I have set up the port forwarding etc. I will try what you suggested in your last post and let you know how I go. I have also been told to reinstall the latest availbale version of ACE as well as upgrade my 2120 to the latest firmware version.
Do you recieve MJpeg images or just JPEG images from your 2100 onto your XDAII ?
Ps just tried the link you posted below on my PC and it wasn't working. Can you view this link on your PDA? http://www.alloys.com.au:10195 password: home - username: home

i am sure its jpeg's
the link at alloys.com works fine as a web page in explorer and fine with ACE on the PC but on the XDA iusing pocket ACEi t keeps asking for the user and password even tho i have them correct it will not go to the display screen to display the picture
please try mine
Ip 81.130.171.224 and port 121 no security

Thanks, I will try yours. I'm going away for 2 days and will get to try it on Friday ( I don't have my PDA with me at the moment). So I'll let you know how I go. Very strange that the Alloys one doesn't work as it works fine on my PC. Just had a quick look at yours on my PC as well. Looks pretty cold over there at the moment.

Hi John,
I haven't had time to test your site yet but I do have another question. Did you have to enter any settings in the admin of the camera in the NOTIFICATION section (under TCP/IP & SMTP) in the Network tab to be able to view the Axis cameras on the XDA?
Ordinarily you don't have to enter anything there to view over LAN/WAN but I am assuming it is there for a reason. Do the cameras have to stream to an FTP setting in order to be viewed by the PDA? And hence entering setting in the above mentioned section.
Cheers
Barko

Accessing Citrix through Citrix Secure Gateway

Hi,
Im experiencing trouble accessing www.haltonvpn.co.uk through my Vodafone v1640.
This links to our CSG box to allow me access to a Citrix session through terminal services.
The link works fine through my XDA using GPRS, but i get a white screen on the universal.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance,
Ok,
After lengthy discussions with our account manager at Vodafone, it would seem that the standard IE browser that ship has some faults accessing Https:// sites (such as internet banking). Obviously this isnt acceptable for what we need!
I'll let this board know when the faults are resolved. Hopefully i may be able to post a flash which fixes these problems.
I have installed netfront browserwhich seems to aleviate some of the problems, but it is still definitely no where near useable!
I'll let you know how i get on.
why you do not install the ICA client for winCE?
- You have to download the newest version in english provided from Citrix
- don't forget the installation of your certificate on the pda
- configure your WinCE-ICA-client like the Win32-ICA
This is a well running solution for me and my colleagues! OK it's not really easy to configure the client, but your admins will assist you!
greetings

CU at Citrix Summit in Orlando!
I tried that today, but couldnt access the link to our external facing Citrix Secure Gateway because its a Https:// site!
Mike
hi Mike,
this should not be a problem! The CSG beyond the IIS is the point! And you're able to configure the ICA-client to use https! How i mentioned above, the configuring of the client isn't simple.
Perhaps some steps to configure the WinCE client!
1) don't forget the certifiate, suggest you've installed the client
2) create a new connection (the next points are reachable at creation or with button edit)
3) goto edit firewall settings, enter the FQN URL from the csg and the port, per default it's 443
4) goto edit options, session reliability MUST be turned OFF - this is really important because of the actual csg DON'T support this feature
5) goto server settings:
-select protocol SSL/TLS+HTTPS
-enter the INTERNAL FQN URL of a internal citrix server, it is really important to enter the complete FQN URL = DNS name
-now you should be able to refresh the servers-list also the PA-List, if you're not: enter the server-name or the PA-name manually
ready steady go!
hope you understand all the it-stuff, if not: write a new post

We have it working
It seems that you cannot even access the Page
This means you need to install the certificate
Login and you will see the Icons irrespective of whether you have the Client or not You will just be able to download the ICA files instead of launching it
The ICA Installation put some files in \windows\startup that needs to be removed
Further almost no Config should be done on the Client side
PIE and Opera 8.50 works
get used to squinting and working in akward places!!!! 8)
Regards Frikkie
I tried accessing the Page and can get to the login screen - I see that you are using a Public CA , so the certificate are already trusted. If the problem is further on , it might be that you are accessing the access center which uses activeX controls not supported by WinCE,
We got around that by makng a seperate Page for PDA that only uses CSG and not access center
Hope this helps - let us know exactly where you get stuck!
Regards
Frikkie
I cant even access the link www.haltonvpn.co.uk
Whenever i enter this link i just get a blank white screen on the V1640.
It works fine on my XDA but not on the V1640.
Vodafone told me that they couldnt help me and that QTEK couldnt help either as we havent bought 50 devices!
Any thoughts would be most useful

Pb accessing an IP camera with IE

I use the DLINK 5300G IP Camera at home. It has an ambarked Web server which I can access from my LAN or from Internet.
But I does not work with the IE version on my Tytn (on the LAN). I see the web page but the image itself uses an add-on (MPEG4 video activeX I think).
Where can I find it for the Tytn ?
Thanks
Your best bet is to download View Commander mobile from ivimg.com. There's a 14 day trial. It works very well with most IP cameras.
I tried for months and months trying to get my dlink ip cam to work with IE for mobile without any success. I think the mpeg4 codec is an applet thingy that doesn't work in wm5.
Thanks ! It works perfectly and worth the 50$ !

newbie remote desktop user

hello everyone, im a newbie to remote desktop and want to setup my u1000 to conect to my workstaion via wifi and internet as well. i just recently upgraded my u1000s rom ap3.
i could realy use your help pros..
u guys can also direct me to some link to useful info on settngs..
or any other replacement for remote desktop..
im sorry if thess silly questions doesnt needed a thread...
but i desperatly need the settings, as buy u1000 was one of my main praioriities
pls do help me frnds...
thanx in advance..
im no pro but i have it working here!
First off,to use it over the internet you need to make some adjustments on the pc end unless you have a static ip.
got to somewhere like no-ip.com register and d/l the software so you have a way of naming your dynamic ip.
Then you need to ensure that the allow remote connections is enabled on the pc and that your routers ports are forwarded if they need to be(mine did).
Then you should be able to enter the name of your ip (from no-ip.com) and password to logn from the rdp program on your dopod!
It should be similar over wifi on a LAN but instead of the no-ip name you just enter the computer name and password.
Forgive my terrible explanation of the setup but i can never quite explain myself properly.
Their are loads of tutorials on the net for setting up rdp and other tunnelling software like vnc.
have you tried ... ??
Sorry if this doesn't answer your question. However, I wonder if this might help. Check out www.logmein.com. I use it to connect with my desktop and it's free. You can remote adjust the settings to 640x480 and it works well -- even at 800 x 600. It's free!! (you can pay to upgrade to different features, but I never have.)
You might also look at orb.com. I can't get the video streaming to work well at all, but you can (also) connect with files on your computer and download them to your athena. It's also free.
As far as vpn tunneling, I haven't had much luck getting it to work. There's a company called hotspotvpn. Their service is cheap and works great with a regular laptop. They advertise compatibility with windows mobile, but I could never get it to work. I'd love to know if anyone else was able to do vpn tunneling and how.
Hope this helps somehow.
1.) goto www.whatismyipaddress.com that will tell you what your ip address is
2.) if you have a router you need to find out (follow me) you desktop ip not the ip address that the website gave you but the ip address your router gives you.... (you can find this by going to start --> run --> type in cmd hit ok --> then type this in with no quotes "ipconfig /all" hit enter it should be somthing like 192.168.1.1XX or 192.168.0.1XX
3.) goto start menu right --> click on my computer --> click on properties --> click on the remote tab --> half way down click the box under remote desktop
4.) goto router and tell it to open port 3390 to your local ip found in part 2
5.) open rdp on pda and type in ip from part 1

Remote Desktop Mobile?

hi, does anyone understand how to use this program?? i understand that it controls ur computer, but how does the initial set up works?
Thanks alot for your help.
This way i described is used with the same Wifi router:
- Connect ur computer & X1 to the same router.
- Find out ur computer ip address (can use "ipconfig" command)
- Go to ur computer > System Properties > under Remote Desktop > check "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)" > ok
- Go to X1 Remote Desktop Mobile, fill in:
* Computer: with ur computer ip address (i.e. 192.168.1.10)
* User name: with ur computer user name
* Password: with ur computer password
* Domain: leave it blank
Before connect, u can go to options to do some settings for better results:
* Colors: High color (16 bit)
* Check "Fill remote desktop to screen"
* Remote desktop sound: play on this device
- click Connect
P.S. I've tested with Windows 7.
ohh thanks alot for that info!!!!

Yes, you have to set up your home router to forward TCP port 3389 to your home PC to do this. If you don't know how to do this, check this site: http://www.portforward.com
If you don't have a static IP address on your home internet connection, you will also need to sign up with a dynamic DNS service to be able to access your PC.
Also note that Remote Desktop server is only included in the Professional/Business editions of Windows, and not in the Home edition versions.
if your looking for an easy option use logmein
basically install the software on your desktop at home...
on your PDA go through to web browser IE or opera go to the website - login -
and remote control your desktop
easy as that..
p.s showed it to 2 friends at work Iphone users, they where amazed, one turned around and said WOW wish if my iphone can do that!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm what can i say anyone else would have figured out that it will also work with the iphone browser but hey why spoil the moment.........
Sounds good .. except you are giving access to your computer to third party. Might be ok .. might be not.

What happens if this site gets hacked? I guess there are always differnent approches people can take, if you really want your own secure connection in then go VPN and down that path....
I guess the question you should really be askingyoru self is why do you want to remote on?
To show off? or to have access to files that you have saved on your local machine at home?
Or do you want to remote on so you can que thoese torrents and get your news groups going haha
(if you do PM me and il give you some easy options

Streaming Media on a HTC 730 Smartphone; User athentication?

Hi,
I am not sure if any one can help me but I am trying to access my Web cam in my home from my mobile.
I have a wireless router at home and a wireless web cam. I managed to open ports so that I can access the cam outside my LAN, via IE from a laptop. I although need to authenticate my self to access the cam then. (The cam's userid and pwd.)
This is OK!
But now I am also trying to access the camera from my mobile (Which is suppose to work accoridng to the mfg.)
So I tried with the "Streaming Media" for the HTC but I get an error message:
Server request client to disconnect from the network!
This is I assume becuase I need to authenticate my self????? but does the streaming media have this option?
So question is:
1.Does rtsp also requires authentication and if yes can I enable it in the streaming medai?
2. What other software for a SMARTPHONE could be used which allows authentication?
Thanks for any help
/Martin from Sweden!
