Please excuse my inexperience. After unlocking my XDA-I using the unlocking software from its original AT &T WM2002 to XDA-Developer(3.17.03, V.12) Is there a way to change the OS back to WM2002 or 2003? If so, will I be better or worse off. I ask due to any future updates to the various parts of the OS like Media Player, Internet Explore and such. Does XDA-Developer have updates to solve any recent updates? Thanks everyone.
You can cook your own PPC2002 or WM2003 ROM at http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org it has the latest ROM versions and s/w updates

It has been pretty confusing lately on what ROM and Radio stack upgrades to apply on an O2 XDA unit, especially with the emergence of so many ROM and Radio Stack versions all claiming to have solve the problems of its predecessors. So to your what really is the most suitable, most reliable and most stable ROM and Radio Stack version to use on an O2 XDA unit? and why?
Your opinions are going to be pretty helpful for many O2 XDA users who have been dying to get an upgrade...
I recently intalled and tested ROM 4.00.11 ENG and ROM 4.00.16 T-Mobile as a conclusion -- I noticed that although WM 2003 is impressive and has numerous new features to boast than its predecessor (PPC 2002), it still has to work on several bug issues, specially regarding the issue on stability. Although unsatisfied, I do not regret installing WM 2003 beta on my unit because it gave me a perpective on what to expect of this promising new OS the moment final version upgrade becomes available. Overall, I suggest that it's better for us users to stick to our old ROMs until we get the final release of WM 2003 from our respective manufacturers.
So far, the most stable ROM available that I've tried is ROM 3.20.06 ENG and if you want to know why, then I suggest you try it!
Flashing ROMs is dangerous, it might result to an unusable XDA.
Please try to participate coz' this will serve very useful to many users who've been wanting to grab an OS update!!!
Where abouts did you get 3.20.03?[/quote]

Hello everyone. I have a two month old xda 1 and I am thinking of upgrading the ROM (OS) to WM 2003. I have created the ROM (4.00.05) at http://kitchen.romanweb.com and downloaded the exe. I have also read the pitfalls of how upgrading the ROM can completely render my xda useless. Are there any steps that I can take so that if the upgrade fails then I restore my pda's old OS and functionality (being a DBA it would be bit like a database restore)? Those users that have upgraded successfully, are there any pitfalls to look out for or any literature on the upgrade process? One more question, when I do upgrade the OS, will the phone work as normal or do I have to do something to "link" it to the OS?
Thank you for your advise.
Read more posts...way more and don't use the .exe to upgrade your device. Download the OS Toolset, backup your current ROM, and then upgrade the ROM with an .nb file which you can create in the kitchen. FYI 4.00.11 is more stable than .05.
Where can get my hands on the OS toolkit. Also, will the 4.00.11 work on a UK o2 XDA?
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2189. As far as a US ROM working in the UK...I don't know. It should for the OS is independant of the radio stack. Just back up first to be safe and don't use an .exe to upgrade or you won't be able to go back without difficulty!
I recently purchased an AT&T SX56 and had it unlocked so that I can use it with T-Mobile service. It works great but it still has the old AT&T software on it Pocket PC 2002. I would like to upgrade to PPC 2003 which is available on the T-Mobile site, but I am concerned that flashing the device with T-mobile software will kill it. Has anyone had an experience with this? Will it work?? I can d-load the PPC 2003 from siemens for AT&T but I would rather have T-mobile.
Download it but only flash the ce rom part of it, dont flash the radio if you have a good working phone already, there is nothing there to damage your phone, people on this site have used roms from everywhere without problems, it is better to use the sd method for flashing using xdatools.
I tried the t mobile upgrade
but it told me my rom version was not compatible and aborted the upgrade. I have an att sx-56 that I unlocked by loading the special rom 3.17 ENG. So I'm running on that rom until I spot the next plan on here.
This rom is cool but can anyone tell me how to get the buttons to work when the phone is off again? Also the calendar language is not english any idea on where to set that?
Thanks love this site and the great people on here!

Use the kitchen at http://xda.weblink.net/ to cook a TMO 4.01.16 ROM and use the SD card method to over come the version verification.
Finished... for now anyway
Did as suggested above and then used t-mobile released version to upgrade radio... Now have the official t-mobile version of OS ROM and Radio. I miss the old special edition rom already!
Thanks everyone!

Hi,
I just received my SX56 two days ago. I have T-Mobile USA service. I'm trying to figure out the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrades and all that. I found the ROM cook site. So, from what I understand, I can cook the ROM from the site, download it and run it to upgrade my SX56, right? I will not need to do anything else. Everything's included in the ROM downloaded from the site? Also, what version should I update to? A.30.09 or 4.01.16 or something else? Please help!
Also, is there a way to have Bluetooth enabled in SX56 or is it a hardware restriction?
Thank you.
for now i would stick with what you got
and no a rom change could not make it do bluetooth
not even make it work with sdIo Bluetooth cards
I have used PPC2003 before and I have bought few applications that only work with Windows Mobile 2003. That's the reason why I want to upgrade SX56 to 2003. Could someone please guide me to the correct version number for T-Mobile? Thank you.
The 4.01.16 is quite good and stable. (does not have the audio bug).
Pierre
Ps: There's also the SD Erasure!!! buggy WM2003
Okay, I am happy with the 2002 Special Edition Rom I downloaded from the kitchen., But am I missing out on any advancements by not going to WM2003final?
Does anyone with a SX56 have a recommendation for the best ROM for the phone?
Thanks.
It depends a little bit on what you want. If you´re happy with your current ROm, stay at this ROM.
If you want to get a usable WM2003 ROM i would suggest to use the 4.01.12 ROM.
If you want to have the newest ROM and also use landscape mode, but have some little difficulties, use the WM2003SE ROM
There is no possibility to say, this Version is the ultimate ROM Version.....
Stefan
So there are no major differences between 2002 and 2003 that I am missing out on?
2003 supports secure pop
The biggest advantage for me was that 2003 supports secure pop connections. The biggest disadvantage is the SD card erasure problem with 2003 ROMS. Hopefully this is fixed in 2003SE.

How about the 4.01.16, Lumpistefan?? Is it OK or it is slow or it has problems that 4.01.12 does not have?
Thanks!!
