Socket Bluetooth GPS/Imate - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I have the latest ROM (as of 2/21/04) and the bluetooth 'fix' from clubimate.com...
However, I have a socket bluetooth GPS that needs to bond with the Imate on COM 8 (the Imate only gives the option for Com4/5 in the bluetooth settings.
Does anyone know how to hack this?
Cheers,
MD

Have you tried Towas latest patch 1.0.0.2

Yes, I tried it, but the Socket BT GPS apparently needs a connection over COM8 to work with Mapopolis software (latest version).
I haven't tried any other software - bought Mapopolis because it was the best features for what I needed.

fortuna blue tooth connection help please

I have just bought a fortuna clip on blue tooth gps ( what a great little unit!) What serial port should i select when setting up the connection ? I have tried all available options but after finishing the set up the blue tooth light on the GPS does not illuminate.
I have down loaded the BT tools patch. :?
My bluetooth gps is on COM 4, which version of the patch are you usin, if you get the latest patch it is much better and far easier to configure, the latest is 1.0.1.2 I think. If you cant find it I can email it. This version gives options for activesync, serial port, modem, etc. In tomtom I choose tomtom wireless gps then in the other drop down box my bt gps is there with the port number next to it. I have used a fortuna bluetooth with xda2 and had no problems even before I installed the patch, I also had bt sync and my headset all working at the same time, the only reason i installed the patch is because the Holus GR-230 would not install on the xda2.
i have the fortune gps and after installing the bt patch it works fine, plz keep us informed is to how you get on

another MS bluetooth COM-port hack

Occasionally I've found a site: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...egory=0&os=PPCA&osl=en&deviceid=4351&devlib=8
this update was designed for Dell Axim X5 PPC only, but after installing it on my Imate I've found a "com ports" tab in the Microsoft Bluetooth settings. Can someone test this update, maybe it would be useful for those who have problems with BT GPS? I cannot test it myself yet.
interesting, There is a new dll (BthVCOMMgr.dll) and some reg settings ( HKLM/sofware/microsoft/bluetooth/serial/config) in the CAB.
I did not know the Dell also uses the MS BT stack for its BT extension pack!!!
Might be worthwhile knowing how users of the Dell cope with this BT Stack . . . .
Hey, it works. Great
I tried it with my Fortuna BT Clip-on and TomTom 3 and it worked with
virtual COM-Port 7.
Before I needed the Pocket Bluetooth Tools to get my BT-Mouse work with TomTom.

Would like to know:
WHAT works (especially when 'it' didnt work before)
WHAT is your ROM version?
WHAT is your ROM origin?
Do you use BT with a BT BPS and TomTom3?

Hi,
please can you explain me how to configure-use it step by step. I would like to use my TomTom BT receiver with other apps. As you know you can do it normaly, but If I create a virtual com port mybe...please help me, how to do it? Do you think it can solve the problem reletad to BT headset profile too? I mean that will I use BT car kit and BT headset both?
Thanx a lot!
@edsub
File comes into compressed format. To install it, is it enough to extract the file and copy build.PPC2003_ARM.CAB on my Qtek2020, or should I copy build.ini and register.bat files too?
I have native Qtek2020 BT stack and the last ROM 1.72 ITA...will it work?
Thanx again!

Yes, that's enough.
You just pair your BT-Device as before, after that you will be asked if you wanna give it a COM-Port. Do that like you see at the Screenshot.
That's it. Wish you success

I was trying to to use GPSDash, by setting a virtual com port to TomTom BT receiver...but it's hard to find the right combination between COM port and Baud Rate, working for my Qtek2020 (1.72)
I also have tried to uninstall the BT Dell patch (that seems to fit perfectly to Qtek 2020), and tried to connect GPSDash via COM5...but with no positive results.
So:
1-can someone suggest me a GPS SW to test with BT Dell patch and TomTom BT, easy to configure?
2- do you think I can use BT Dell patch to assign a virtual COM port to my BT CarKit, in order to let it work, beside BT Headst? Which com port usually is assigned to BT headset and which virtual one should I assign to BT car Kit, to test if it will work?
Thanx again!
From what I read here is the only thing different this tool allows you to manually select the BT-assigned COM port. Without this s/w COM4 is selected for inbound and COM5 for outbound . . . .
I've tested it on my 1.72.00WWE
You CAN assign ports.
Only the BSP: ones succeed (looks like all other ports allready exist)
It did not benefit me when using Tom Tom GPS: I was hoping to be able to use the 'Bluetooth GPS' portsetting wich would prevent my MDAII from almost freezing when I start Tom Tom navigator with the GPS out of range (currently GPS uses COM5 which is fine AS LONG AS the GPS is in range and switched on)

Bluetooth Belkin GPS and Rom 1.72

I have upgraded to rom 1.72 and am trying to get my bluetooth gps setup without using the bluetooth tools. I can get the device added and it sets up the port profile fine. I installed pharos gps software and belkins gps software. The pharos software just exits when I turn it on for the gps to work, and the belkin just brings the ppc to a crawl. It never seems to get any data back though. I used the same gps on my laptop with a bluetooth usb device and it works fine that way. Can anyone give me any suggestions on making this work again on my ppc without having to install the bluetooth tools?

Microsoft vs. Widcomm once more

Hi all!
I found a strange problem reguarding bluetooth software conflicts beetween Qtek2020's Microsoft Bluetooth Stack and the Widcomm 1.4.1 (BluetoothGPS.cab) Stack.
It means.
Without the Widcomm Stack installed I am able to syncronize via Bluetooth with ActiveSync (com6).
And I moreover can surf the web trough my Qtek GPRS connection via Bluetooth. And that's perfect.
But.
With the Widcomm Stack installed I am still able to syncronize via Bluetooth with ActiveSync (on com6) but I loose the bluetooth-modem capacity!
I own a Trust180 Bluetooth/USB adapter.
I need the Widcomm Stack only to use my Fortuna Clip-On GPS and I will not need it anymore if I could find the way to use it with Qtek-Microsoft Bluetooth Stack, but I have not found the way to do it yet.
So I think I could only surf the registry to find the answer to let both stacks work together, is it possible?
Did anybody have the same problem?
Did anybody find the answer?
Thanks in advance!
Giuseppe
Hi Giuseppe,
I have the same Fortuna Clip-on GPS receiver and I'm able to use it with the MS BT stack. It bonds and offers the option to set up a serial port. If you accept this, it allocates Com 5 to the GPS. I use Tomtom navigation software and in the software set it up as a NEMA 38400 baud connection using Com 5 - all works fine.

XDA 2i Widcomm and Fortuna
I'm having the same problem with a fortuna clip on bluetooth gps and an XDA2i--for some reason that build of the widcomm stack (3900) doesn't work, yet earlier versions, such as that shipped with the XDA2s, appear to work fine--does anyone know where to find a version of the widcomm bluetooth stack from broadcom newer than 3900?

Hi Paul,
thanks for your reply, I know my Clip-On should work together with every software for on road navigation...but...I unfortunately need OziExplorer for my off-road navigation and...OziExplorer need a com7 port.
That's all
I think I'll try Franson's tools: GPSGate & something else as I read here http://www.franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17&SearchTerms=qtek,2020
I wouldn't like to hardreset my device again...I lost the number of my hardresets.
Thank you anywhere
Giuseppe
Hi giuseppe,I hate broadcom stack too, after many hresets, i thinks there is no way to solve this and other bugs, like the serial modem bluetooth connection.
The only winning move is to sell our 2020i and buy magician
Bye
Luca
Hi Luca, don't surrender, it can work!
I simply followed this http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17&SearchTerms=qtek,2020 .
Now I am able to use my Fortuna GPS and my BT Motorola HS805 at the same time. And morover I am still using my Qtek's BT modem ability.
I payed 30 euros for Franson GPS Gate, but it solved my problems.
I am now trying to let ActiveSync work via Bluetooth because it's the only ability I lost. :?
Bye, thank You for your post,
Don't surrender!

Bluetooth and GPS problem

Hi all, I bought a Qtek S100 and tried to connect it with my BT GPS receiver (Falcom Navi 1). It didn't work properly and I suddely lost te BT icon on the lower right hand side of the S100. It hasn't re-appeared even after several soft resets?
Does the S100 have the sae BT problems with GPS as the xdaII had?
I use BT GPS and the only problem so far is that I have to re-pair them sometimes.
Try Start->Settings->Connections->Bluetooth to get to the same screen as you would get to by clicking the BT icon.
THanks for the reply. Which BT GPS do you use? and with what Navigation program?
Holux GR-231 and TomTom3.
I am having problem with Bluetooth GPS as well. I have 2, one is iTrek Bluetooth GPS and one is ArcoreTech Bluetooth GPS.
Since I have tried both GPS units, I am pretty sure it's i-Mate JAM's Bluetooth problem.
Instead of upgrading my ROM to 1.06.00 WWE, I should have tried it out with version 1.03 first. I upgraded from 1.03 to 1.06 as soon as my JAM finished charging. BIG MISTAKE!
I ended up usiing "Pocket Bluetooth Tool" to designate COM8 (for example) for my GPS. However, if I happen to soft reset or turn of Bluetooth, I would have to pair it again.
I read many article's on the internet and the problem seems to point to the MS Bluetooth stack (instead of Widcomm used in my i-Mate PDA2K - and by the way PDA2K works perfectly with my GPS units).
Hopefuly i-Mate will address this problem during the next ROM update.
So how come Loboman's holux works ok?
Loboman are you using a different BT stack?
I would like to guess that he uses ROM version 1.03...

I use 1.06.00. All i do is that I tap on the BT icon, choose 'Devices', tap 'New...' and waits until the phone finds the GPS. Then I add it and pair it with the passkey. Then I had to scan all serial ports using a program that Holux supplies (I bet it works with any BT reciever though) to find out that my port was COM5 and finally I set my programs to use COM5. As I previously stated, I do have to re-pair them sometimes for some reason, but I can live with that.
I previously had an Acore unit which worked ok with my iPAQ 5450 (also MS BT stack) in WM2003. It took me all the way from northern Sweden to Barcelona in Spain last summer
I have not used Pocket Bluetooth Tool, but I have read about it. I think that it works without it so far. I also leave my BT on 24/7 since I don't think that it uses too much battery.
I hope things work out for you.
Absolutley no problems with Rom 1.01.01 Ger and Navilock BT-308 GPS-Mouse
I am not sure if the following has anything to do with Bluetooth but at least it cured my Bluetooth vs. GPS problem, for now.
On Club i-Mate's ROM update page, I found out that if the radio version is 1.10, then I am NOT suppose to apply the camera patch. After I uninstalled it, my JAM seems to work better with Bluetooth GPS units. My biggest problems were:
1. Once I soft reset my JAM, I have to re-pair my GPS units.
2. PrymeNav software took a long time to scan for GPS - and crashes sometimes when I designate already-scanned port.
3. Unable to hold two paired GPS units in Bluetooth Device List (though only used on at a time).
I have played with it after I uninstalled the camera patch and to this morning my GPS units still function well. Another key is to turn on the GPS unit and make sure it is linked (as indicated by its LED) - then turn on the GPS software. That way the hardwares are ensured to be linked.
As a side bonus, now I can perform Bluetooth Activesync on my Mac (via PocketMac software). However, I still require Pocket Bluetooth Tool installed on my JAM.
Weird!
