not upgrading properly - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

hi,
well as i loaded the nk.nbf file and transfered to sd using xdatools ,,,
well initially it does not enter the bootloader than somebody suggested to
fix the bootloader using xdatools, well after that it starts to enter wallaby bootloader 5.17.
well now my sd with nk.nbf file is in the slot,
i enter bootloader,,,
after series of test like pda checksum, recording etc , it shows four colours, then tap test,, then button test,,
till here it happens with no delay,,
but when it enters sd card test,,, and says start test......
i does not move forward,, even i took my sd out and put it in again,, no response..
well i dnt know that will ill be able to upgrade it or not.
sos.

Tests? We don't need no stinkin' tests!
Why are you running the tests? In my experience the option to install the ROM in the bootloader comes up as soon as the XDA boots (no test options are shown when the SD card contains a ROM image). If you hadn't said that you had used XDATools to put the ROM onto the SD card I would have guessed that you had just Windows-copied the ROM image over. When you insert the SD card with the ROM image (before going into the bootloader) does the XDA ask for permission to format the SD card? It should, because the card containing a ROM image doesn't have a proper FAT format.

How are you choosing destination in xdatools, you must use the drop down menu not the browse button, in the drop down it will show something like E:sd card 62 mb free or similar when using card reader/writer.

I have exactly the same problem and I do as you said i select the destenation from the drop down list and still when I enter the bootloader it doesnt prompt me any thing, could you guess what could be the problem?

Yes i tried all things
well,
i used xdatools to transfer nk.nbf file to sd card,(firstly i tried in slot in xda, secondly from card reader)
well same thing ,, it enter bootloader and says gsm ok, and proceeds with the test.
also the current rom ask me to format the card ,yes.
i dont know why its happening,
but i have tried both the nk.nbf files (from siemens and from yorche.net)
i really cannot think where the problem can lie.
got,
bootloader 5.17,
rom-3.17.03

drop down
and also,
while transferring the file from source ----i choose the source dir for nk file
and to destination i always drop down...

Bootload

I feel pretty dumb asking this question, but here goes anyway, cause I know someone will be able to answer me:
Can you bootload from a MMC (Multimedia Card) rather than a SD card?
Also, where can all the files be found that are used to get this boot working. I read the Bootload introduction, but it didn't highlight where to find the files. Are they kept in the .ZIP that can downloaded from Yorch? Cause at the moment I have a white screen XDA, and my sister has my 64Mb MMC (and she is overseas for one more week), and I have been left with her ****ty 8Mb MMC card. Please help me so I'm ready to fix the device one my MMC arrives back.
Yes you can use the mmc card, the files for sd flash can be downloaded direct from yorch, just cook a rom and choose sd flashing at the bottom of the screen, you can then transfer the nbf file using xdatools, enter bootloader and flash the rom from there. You must make sure you arent just copying the file to sd, use the drop down box on the destination part of xdatools and choose your memory card, do not browse for the destination, if this sounds a bit complex all will be revealed when you run the prog.

can't get the xda to load from sd to upgrade to WM2003

hello,
i'm using the xdatools to put the nk file on the SD card, but when i hard reset my xda, i get into bootloader 5.22 mode, it says "gsm ok", and when i press the action button i get into a test menu.
How can i load the nk file from my sd card? please help.
thanks guys.
Did you place the ROM on the SD card by browsing to your device (...) or using the drop down and choosing your SD reader or XDA SD slot?
I had the same problem until I used the drop down... if you browse to your card, XDA tools will not create a bootable SD.
i used directy dropping down the box to SD
When you use the drop down menu on the destination there should be a drive letter next to your card eg: F: 59.60M USB sd reader or similar, choose that and it should work.
do we soft reset or hard reset
well after loading nk.nbf file
do we soft reset or hard reset to get into bootloader.
also,
the drive letter in destination folder will come if u use card reader,
but if in expansion slot than it does not give the drive letter.
Hello
I did hard reset .
I am having this same problem...
I download to the SD card through the cradle, using the phone's expansion slot. I do a SOFT RESET, to get the bootloader, and all I get is a GSM OK message. If I hit the action button, I then get into the test menu.
Hello
Means you have no nb.1 on your SD card .
as per the instructions I've been following that have been listed in detail here on this site as well as the att siemens support forums, you are supposed to copy the nk.nbf file and use that with the OS Image tool...is this incorrect?
OSImage
I just installed new ROM from new ROM Kitchen .
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
1) Get the file on your desktop ( download or ...I do not care)
2) Open OSInage
3) Source  Brows to your file
4) Destination  your SD card (where is it :?: -on your phone
or on the SD card reader)
5) Copy the file to SD card (takes 20 seconds)
6) Remove the XDA from the cradle and soft reset with power button held in.
7) When it says press action to download, push the big button between dial and hangup.
8) Hard reset.
9) Injoy the rest of your day
No way getting SD-Card recognized
Hello,
i have the same problem, the ROM (Made with xda-tools or XDArit) on sd-card is not recognized to download when i boot into bootloader!
I found no way to get this running.
Any ideas?
read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3274
most likely, your wallaby bootloader is not 5.15. Anything above 5.15 won't work. I could downgrade from 5.17 and 5.22, but not from 6.22
still awaiting for some help to down grade 6.22. Nobody seems to care. THis forum has become "too" big that it is not as effective as before ...
People tend to just "shout" and ask before digging deep enough...
too many people posting the same questions into different threads again and again

I'm in the same situation - I have v6.22 on T-Mobile 4.01.00ENG and can't do anything, even with an SD card!
Even the BootLoader downgrade tool with XDATools doesn't work.
Any help with this would be appreciated by many other users in the same situation.
The downgrade batch file in XDA-Tools doesn't work for a lot of people (didn't work for me either). However the wallaby patch should work. Otherwise, use XDARit to downgrade the bootloader using the .nb0 file that comes with the downgrade batch in XDA-Tools.
You write the wallaby patch onto the SD card using XDARit, go into the bootloader and enter diagnostics. Then take the SD card out, write bootloader 5.15 onto the card using the bootloader option in XDARit, and place the SD card back into the device. Then from the patched diagnostics screen select Restore SD and it will recognize a bootloader update. I'd recommend saving your original bootloader from the diagnostics first, but that wouldn't work for me for some reason.
i had a 5.17 boot loader that i downgraded to 5.15 via OS image tools, i also downloaded a rom file from the Kitchen & wrote it on SD but i still can't load from SD & i only get the test phase thing

Try using XDRit instead of XDA-Tools (use the older version of XDRit instead of the newer version). I'm not sure what you mean by "test phase", but maybe your bootloader screwed over during the update? If so you may need to rectify that first, but that's definately beyond me. If you burn the image correctly onto the card it should pick up automatically as soon as you enter the bootloader with 5.15. If you don't burn it correctly then it won't be picked up.
I'm just throwing in my 2c because I've made all this stuff work with a 5.15 downgrade. There's a possibility the thing simply doesn't like your card too, so try a different 64MB SD.
well i do have a 256 mb card & as far as i can tell the downgrade worked fine, now to use the xdarit files to i need to have the SD reader or i can do it the same way i do in XDAtools which is directly into the card through Active Sync

Couldnt upgrad QTEK 1010 using SD card

I tried to upgrad my qtek using the XDA_Tools directly with USB and it failed, what I can see in the screen is only grey lines.
Now, I'm trying the other wy using the SD card. I followed all the steps mentioned in the forum and I used the XDA_Tools to make a ROM image on the SD card.
When i go to the boot loader while the SD card inserted it doesnt prompt me that there is a new ROM image on the SD card.
I tried to use variouse versions of the ROMS's and it still gives the same result.
I have bootloader ver 5.15
SD card 64 MB
SD read/write USB
Can any one please help me to perform this task to have my qtek back.
Thank You
you used nbf or nb1 format ?
did you cook it like that or extracted the nbf from the ROM exe ?
Hello Biso,
I tried first cooked one from yorch nb1, then I tried NBF I already downloaded , both couldnt work.
I doubt that there is a problem in reading from SD card, as I now I try to perfrom back to SD card it tells me " CARD FAILED"
Thank you,
Hey Biso,
Just curious by what you meant 'extract the nbf file from ROM .EXE file'? Is this the proper way to do it?
I cooked various versions of nb1's and nbf's but they won't copy on the SD card. Whenever I try to copy an nb* file on the SD through a USB card writer using the XDA tools, I get a message reading that there is something wrong on the filesize and it cannot proceed with copying the file.
Hey Peter, did you get the nbf file on the SD successfully? Do you need something more than just XDA tools?
My bootloader is also 5.15.

Yes I could get the file on the SD, you dont need anything more than the SD tools, but my only problem is that when I insert the card and go to the bootloader nothing happens[/quote]
Ok Peter,
It seems that I'm running through the same problem myself. The copying process through the XDA tools seems to be going smoothly but after it is completed I can't see the file on the SD card. Have you checked that the file has been really copied on the SD? I'm working on it now. Let me know if you find something first.
Hello All,
Yes, I always cook the ROM as EXE and if it doesn't work I extract the nbf file from it.
The best way is to format the SD card using the XDA. Then use XDAtools to copy the nbf to the XD card through the USB cradle. When it's done, the SD card should NOT be readable. The XDA might ask you to format this card ... just press NO!. When you go to the bootloader it will be recognized.
I just flashed my XDA with A30.09 few minutes ago ... I used exactly those steps .... Good luck
Thank you Bisso.
I managed to pull it through myself in a slightly different way. I had to copy the nbf file in the program files/XDA tools/binary/english folder. I then run the XDA tools and indicated the source and destination folder manually the source being the nbf file in the above folder.
It worked!!!
For all those of you cooking your ROM from Lumpi Stefan's kitchen beware of the 4.01.00 ROM. It's a T-Mobile's ROM and if you're not happy with it, it won't let you change it through active sync. You'll have to use an SD card to download a new ROM on your Qtek.
Hello Biso,
I am not able to perform ur way of upgrading because my qtek doesnt boot it gives those grey black and white lines, so my only wy is to go through the boot loader, could the version of the rom be the reason that i doesnt want to boot in the boot loader?
Hey Peter,
I had the same problem and I figured out why. Make sure that the command lines on the source field of the OSimage tool window point to the right nbf file which you had extracted from the .EXE file. Click on the 'browse' button next to the 'source' field and pick it up manually. Then proceed with the copy and slide your SD in your Qtek.
Let me know of how you did...

where i am going wrong!!!!!!!!

hi,
well i tried to upgrade my xda1 to windows 2003,
here is the description of the problem i m facing....
i used xda tools(osimage tool) to transfer nk.nbf file to my sd card-> go into bootloader(wallaby bootloader 5.17)
->says gsm ok and starts taking test(like tap test, recording test, sd card test etc) which it should not...
and is not loading the os software. (getting stuck in one of the test like sd card test)
well following things i tried:
1. transfered nk.nbf file, tried both from siemens site as well as from yorche.net site--->both giving same problem.------->using xdatools.
2. tried loading the sd ,tried both destinations -->xda slot and as well as the card reader.
3. using drop down only to choose the destination.
4. also after loading sd the current rom asks to format (which means sd is loaded properly)
5. initially it was not loading the bootloader then i fixed it using xda tools , after that i started getting wallaby bootloader 5.17
6. now after going to bootloader it starts taking various test and shows no sign of loading the new os.
--------------
now i have moved as per the instruction and tried everything mentioned above to install wk3 but all in vain....
dont know where the problem seems to lie....
need suggestions desperately...
--------------
current rom:3.17.03
stack:4.21
--------------
current rom working ok.
--------------
maybe it's a problem with the nbf file content ... did u try burning the nbf file directly to the ROM using the XDAtools ?
You arent hitting any other button when entering bootloader are you? Just press the stylus in reset while holding power, it shouldnt go into test mode unless another button is pushed, maybe you have a button stuck or something.
any more suggestions............
well if burning means choosing source to nk.nbf and destination to drop down
to sd card using xda tools then yes i did burning....
also i m sure no other buttons are pressed or thing like that....
any more suggestions............
I meant by burning to make the destination to be the XDA flash ROM
any more..
ya i tried burning to.,...
same problem.
can your sdcard reader read whats on the sdcard (it's not suppose to be able to read after it's been flashed with the rom)
also are you 100% sure that your nbf file is valid ? maybe it's broken
more suggestions ....
well after loading sd card , i cant browse to read it, moreover xda asks to format, which is the sign that card is loaded ok.
secondly i have tried nk.nbf file from siemens as well as yorche.net,
both should not give same problem, which it is.
this mention the 5.17 bootloader you should read it

The best way that I've found is to find somebody with a XDA that has the 5.15 bootloader then do a CE+BOOT TO SD then do a SD restore.
Sounds like a good project for some of the ROM Kitchen owners doesn't!

bootloader not work

Hey folks and xda-experts!
I own an XDA I which I upgraded some time ago with a Rom-Kitchen version for MDA to ROM-Version 4.00.16 eng and Radio-Version 4.21.00.
Unfortunately this software causes some trouble so that I decided to change to the original XDA software. Surprisingly the bootloder is not working at all and an upgrade via the xync-mode is also failing.
Due to the fact that the bootloader is not working I am not able to change the ROM via SD-card. Any ideas how I can make the bootloader work again or how to get a WORKING software onto my XDA?
Same Here Pls Help
Dear all,
I am in the middle of very same situation :? I tried flashing my XDA rom using the bootloader method (mine is version 6.22) but there appears no options to flash from SD card. Any expert please advise how to rejunervate my device. Thank you
first of all then there is a fix bootloader in the xdatools
second then you dont have to chooose flash from sd in the bootloader it does it automaticly when you enter the bootloader with a sd card with a valid rom on it
this guide show you get the rom on the sd card the right way
Ok here you go, its a little outdated but its what I still use:
Qman's how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card aka the Bootloader Method!
1. Place XDArit and the nk.nb1 or nk.nbf file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
Notice that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
4. Select your (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf) image and then Open
Notice by default XDArit will open looking for a *.nb1 file but if you're going to use a .nbf file you'll have to manually change the "Files of Type" to *.nbf
Notice that nk.nbo / nk.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset. You'll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Boot/Reset".

Still Doesn't work
My Bootloader is 6.22 and there is no way to get my device re-connected to the PC even to have the bootloader fixed. I have successfully written nb1 to the SD card but I believe my bootloader version refuses to read from the SD. Is there other way to get around this issue. ANyone please advice, it's been dead for weeks. YOur help is really appreciated
Thank you in advance
Re: Still Doesn't work
Don't know if it works with the 6.22 Bootloader....
Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 is such a pain in the ass! But, like any problem there is always a way around it. Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 as many of us know is incorporated with a key checker, thus it will automatically check and verify your SD Card for any special written key before getting full access on your PPCs ROM and Bootloader. In order to bypass the key checker, simply download the Wallaby patch http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/wallaby-patch-tool.nb2 and write it to an empty SD card using the XDA-Tools program (remember to choose option 1k under header). Insert the SD card to your Pocket PC and go to you PPCs bootloader (press and hold power Button, then press Soft Reset) and wait for a diagnostics message to appear. Upon seeing the Diagnostics message, immediately press action key (core of the rocker keys under the PPCs display screen) and it will bring you to a new window that looks like this:
Boot -> SD
CE -> SD
Boot+CE -> SD
Restore SD
About
Exit
If you don't have an extra SD card, then just simply remove the SD card on your XDA without exiting from the window. Insert the SD Card again to your SD Reader and format it. Then write the file NK.Nb1 to your SD card (under header 3.5k). In any case, that you don't have NK.nb1, you could simply cook a desired ROM under zipped NK.nb1 format which is about 14-15mb.

coudl not write to SD card reader
Hi can anyone enlighten me how to write to SD card using reader, as so far using XDA rit does not work. it aborts any attempt to do it. The reader I have is multi card reader is it something to do with that?
I am having the same problem , can get into the bootloader ok. But i think it is corrupt. (wallaby 5.14)
The nb2 file i tried to write to an sd card wouldn't go at all with anything. XDarit won't write to the card at all with an nb0/nb1/nb2 i'm begining to think nb stands for not bothering.
I keep getting an error from xdarit everytime i try to write to an sd card.
Everything else writes to it ok. But nothing that gives it the right format.
I need an nb0 and an nb1 because one of them is wrong but i don't know which?? Any ideas...(won't boot, flashes intermittantly, no power light even with power connected(battery is ok)....)
