Couldnt upgrad QTEK 1010 using SD card - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I tried to upgrad my qtek using the XDA_Tools directly with USB and it failed, what I can see in the screen is only grey lines.
Now, I'm trying the other wy using the SD card. I followed all the steps mentioned in the forum and I used the XDA_Tools to make a ROM image on the SD card.
When i go to the boot loader while the SD card inserted it doesnt prompt me that there is a new ROM image on the SD card.
I tried to use variouse versions of the ROMS's and it still gives the same result.
I have bootloader ver 5.15
SD card 64 MB
SD read/write USB
Can any one please help me to perform this task to have my qtek back.
Thank You

you used nbf or nb1 format ?
did you cook it like that or extracted the nbf from the ROM exe ?

Hello Biso,
I tried first cooked one from yorch nb1, then I tried NBF I already downloaded , both couldnt work.
I doubt that there is a problem in reading from SD card, as I now I try to perfrom back to SD card it tells me " CARD FAILED"
Thank you,

Hey Biso,
Just curious by what you meant 'extract the nbf file from ROM .EXE file'? Is this the proper way to do it?
I cooked various versions of nb1's and nbf's but they won't copy on the SD card. Whenever I try to copy an nb* file on the SD through a USB card writer using the XDA tools, I get a message reading that there is something wrong on the filesize and it cannot proceed with copying the file.
Hey Peter, did you get the nbf file on the SD successfully? Do you need something more than just XDA tools?
My bootloader is also 5.15.

Yes I could get the file on the SD, you dont need anything more than the SD tools, but my only problem is that when I insert the card and go to the bootloader nothing happens[/quote]

Ok Peter,
It seems that I'm running through the same problem myself. The copying process through the XDA tools seems to be going smoothly but after it is completed I can't see the file on the SD card. Have you checked that the file has been really copied on the SD? I'm working on it now. Let me know if you find something first.

Hello All,
Yes, I always cook the ROM as EXE and if it doesn't work I extract the nbf file from it.
The best way is to format the SD card using the XDA. Then use XDAtools to copy the nbf to the XD card through the USB cradle. When it's done, the SD card should NOT be readable. The XDA might ask you to format this card ... just press NO!. When you go to the bootloader it will be recognized.
I just flashed my XDA with A30.09 few minutes ago ... I used exactly those steps .... Good luck

Thank you Bisso.
I managed to pull it through myself in a slightly different way. I had to copy the nbf file in the program files/XDA tools/binary/english folder. I then run the XDA tools and indicated the source and destination folder manually the source being the nbf file in the above folder.
It worked!!!
For all those of you cooking your ROM from Lumpi Stefan's kitchen beware of the 4.01.00 ROM. It's a T-Mobile's ROM and if you're not happy with it, it won't let you change it through active sync. You'll have to use an SD card to download a new ROM on your Qtek.

Hello Biso,
I am not able to perform ur way of upgrading because my qtek doesnt boot it gives those grey black and white lines, so my only wy is to go through the boot loader, could the version of the rom be the reason that i doesnt want to boot in the boot loader?

Hey Peter,
I had the same problem and I figured out why. Make sure that the command lines on the source field of the OSimage tool window point to the right nbf file which you had extracted from the .EXE file. Click on the 'browse' button next to the 'source' field and pick it up manually. Then proceed with the copy and slide your SD in your Qtek.
Let me know of how you did...

Xdarit doesn't write with new .nbf files ?

I use the Xdarit to read & write the Rom image from my MDA.
I managed to read from the SD card and stored on my harddisk.
When I create back with a new rom .nbf files to the SD card and read back again to the harddisk, the SD show the original files size that from my MDA not the one that I'm going to upgrade to ? I rename the files to .nb1 extension.
Do I need to reformat the SD Card ? Do I need a new SD Card for the download ?
Dear XDA developer #..., please advice. I have been posting and yet to get some good advice and replies.
I would appreciate very much of your expertise in this matter.
Thanks again
they should be the same size, nb1, and nb0 files always are fixed size
more answer:
- when using xdarit you never have to format sd cards.
- renaming files will probably confuse XDARit, since this
is how xdarit recognizes what kind of file it has.
What I meant original file sizes.
1. Read from SD Card ( backup from MDA )
bootloader 5-15.nb0 256 K
WindowsCE 5-15.nb1 32,512 K
2. Write to SD Card ( with new ruu extract from O2 ie )
bootloader 5-15.nb0 256 K
WindowsCE NK_Wallaby31413wee_O2_Fulll.nbf 31,745 K
3. Read back the backup step 2.
bootloader 5-15v1.nb0 256 K
WindowsCE 5-15v1.nb1 32,512 K
As you mentioned, the files size are fixed, therefore my files of
the 5-15v1.nb1 should have the content of the NK-Wallaby.....
and I should had leave the file extention as .nbf without rename it to .nb1
Or should i had wite back using the step 1 files name ?
Please advice, many thanks
if you rename an .nbf file to .nb1, you will burn an incorrect os image
to your xda. making it unbootable in OS mode.
( your bootloader will still work )
also, be careful updating your bootloader, if it fails somehow
it is very difficult to restore your xda
if you just want to update your OS, only write the ..nb1 file
or select the .nbf from your distribution, without renaming it.
this http://openwince.sourceforge.net/jtag/iPAQ-3600/ might
give you an impression on what you would have to do, to repair
your xda after you've trashed your bootloader
Bootloader still appear but buttons not working ?
Thanks XDA developers,
My case is that I might accidently overwrite the bootloader.
The bootloader still be able to appear and the GSM OK showed but none of the functions button be able to work.
Do you think there is a way to work around ?
Many thanks for your replies
can u tell about bootloader version?
Bootloader v 5.15 on a T-Mobile MDA with 3.13.12 GER & Radio T310.
i think u can try to make sd card that contain wallaby path (.nb2) using xdarit... logically u can access "action button" to flash the rom.... this is only way to activate "action button"
after insert sd card u can go on bootloader and see wallaby path, press action button, if it work u can flash the rom (may be u should find exact rom that installed before xda died, more work?)
hope u can fix this prob

I install manufacturer's drivers, but isn't work
I download (found) only 180kb version of XDArit (and source code, but my C++ knowledge... khm...)
Can you write the 1,3mb version's link from me?

Just searching for why I couldn't get XDArit to work with my system - seems the larger (presumably debug) build of XDArit has what's needed to work with the v4 nbf's - thanks for the pointer!

Help please.. SD Card flashing

My PC's activesync crashed and hanged while flashing the ROM. Now the xda is stuck with Updating screen.
Can someone please tell me which file to download from Jeff's kitchen (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf or anything else) and how to write it to SD card for flashing.
I tried to write nb1 and nbf both, using xda-tools, but it is not copied in the format required by the bootloader. In fact, in either case it is copied as a file which is not identified by the bootloader (my version is 5.15). boootloader starts with GSM OK message, and does not give me option to flash the ROM.
Can someone please please tell me how to do it?
you need SD card writer or a SD backup from another XDA.

Thanks.
I was about to go to the service centre for rom image from another xda, but I decided to give it a try using usb cradle, and ran the original upgrade program. It came out with error and asked me to soft reset the device and try again, which I did, and it worked. I now have a working xda!

Clear instructions, please!

Hi,
I have a TMobile pocket pc, Rom version: 3.08.10 and Radio Version: 6.02, I want to upgrade it to WM2003, the problem is that I don't have a tmobile phone number, I saved my ROM on a sd card with the Wallaby Bootloader, I downloaded the "XDA OS Image Tool", could I put the "T-mobile ROM Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade 4.00.21" from Yorch and if it doesn't work just reload the old version with Wallaby?
Could I cook a Rom in the Kitchen and install it or I need PHP support?
Thanks
Yes to all, also you'll need to upgrade your radio stack to get the always on GPRS.
BTW where are you located?
HTH
How do I upgrade my radio? I'm in NY but I need the phone also in Europe.
when you said yes you mean also for the kitchen I need PHP support, does that mean a server like Apache installed on my computer?
btw in Wallaby I saved with the first option to the Sd, I think it was CE ROM TO SD, is that ok or I need to do something else?

Yes on the kitchen!
The best way to upgrade the radio stack is to copy the needed files to
your devices Windows folder and install it from there. If you send me a PM with your email address I'll send you the needed files.
You lost me on the needing PHP support, why do you need that?
HTH
what are all these instructions at http://xda-developers.com/ROMkitchen/, is it for someone that wants to run the kitchen on his computer?
should I use the kitchen version .16 or it's more secure the .21 from yorch with XDA OS Image Tool?

Yes those instructions are for setting up your own kitchen.
I'd go with .21 cause thats what I'm using.
BTW you can also get ROM version 4.0021 from http://www.yorch.net
under Software.
HTH
I have the 4.00.21 version from Yorch my last question is what I need to select in Wallaby?
1. CE ROM TO SD
2. BOOT TO SD
3. CE+BOOT TO SD
4. GSM ROM TO SD (I guess not)
5. CE + GSM TO SD (also probably not)
Thanks...
Pick door number three and make sure that you have loaded onto the sd card only the nbf file from Yorch's site.

you got my a little confused... I thought of backing up to the sd the actual rom and then writing the nbf file to the device, but now you said to load the nbf file to the sd... could please explain...Thanks
Okay, get the os toolset, an sd card reader/writer, an sd card of at least 64mb and do the following:
-install the os toolset
-put device in cradle
-run ostoolset and backup your ROM to your hard drive. Name it something like ppc2002-10-13-03 or something similar. This will backup your ROM only, not any installed programs
-remove your device
-insert the sd card into the reader/writer
-open os toolset again and select the new rom you downloaded from the internet
-select the sd card as the installation drive
-once its done copying put the sd card into your device
-run the wallaby bootloader and have it install the os to your device.
-hard reset when done as directed and BINGO
*** I will point out that it seems you have not read very many of the posts here. DO THIS BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THE ABOVE ***
I'm actually going through this forum for a week till I decided to ask, since nobody wrote clearly how to do it, Thanks!
Now since I don't have a sd card reader, before I get it, is it possible to upgrade directly without having to do it with the sd card?
Another question, with which extension do I save the backup of my ROM, nb1, img, bin.
Thanks again
what's the difference if I copy the .nbf file to the SD reader or if I just copy it to the sd through the device?
Once again, please read the posts. You can't copy the file to the sd card while in the device for it will only copy the file as a file instead of copying it as a bootable interface. If you don't understand this then you should definitely read more posts. No offense.
You can, if you wish, just us the OS toolset to overwrite your device ROM with any ROM you choose. Just go to the ROM TOOLSET forum to download and follow the instructions there. It is very easy but be careful. I just believe in the aforementioned method for it forces you to take steps to prevent a total loss. I wish you the best of luck.
Oh, if you really want to update your ROM, etc., invest in a card reader. It'll cost you less than $30 which is less than 6% of what you paid for your device most likely.
No matter what you do make a backup of your current ROM!
valheru, thank you very much for taking your time, belive me that I really read allot of posts, if you could direct me in a thread that speaks about this I'll be very happy instead of using your time!
Now I just copied the nbf file to the sd card with OSImage Tool, and when I went in Wallaby it gave me the option to upgrade the ROM, is that ok? or I still need a sd reader,
Thanks again for all your help!
That sounds alright but make sure you make a backup of your current ROM first!
Great!!! It works, now one last question the Radio Version is 6.02, Qman what version did you send me and how do I upgrade?
ok here are the istructions to upgrade to ROM 4.00.21 for a TMobile Pocket Pc Phone Edition.
You just need a sd card of at least 64MB (maybe 32Mb will also work).
Download the OSImage Tool from http://www.xda-developers.com/XDAtools/ and install it.
Download the Upgrade to 4.00.21 from Yorch.net http://www.yorch.net/downloads/ROMS/T-mobileROM40021.rar.
-put device in cradle
-run osImage Tool and backup your ROM to your hard drive. Name it something like ppc2002-10-13-03 or something similar. This will backup your ROM only, not any installed programs
-open osImage Tool again and select the new rom you downloaded from the internet
-select the sd card as the installation drive
-run the wallaby bootloader and have it install the os to your device.
-hard reset when done as directed and BINGO

where i am going wrong!!!!!!!!

hi,
well i tried to upgrade my xda1 to windows 2003,
here is the description of the problem i m facing....
i used xda tools(osimage tool) to transfer nk.nbf file to my sd card-> go into bootloader(wallaby bootloader 5.17)
->says gsm ok and starts taking test(like tap test, recording test, sd card test etc) which it should not...
and is not loading the os software. (getting stuck in one of the test like sd card test)
well following things i tried:
1. transfered nk.nbf file, tried both from siemens site as well as from yorche.net site--->both giving same problem.------->using xdatools.
2. tried loading the sd ,tried both destinations -->xda slot and as well as the card reader.
3. using drop down only to choose the destination.
4. also after loading sd the current rom asks to format (which means sd is loaded properly)
5. initially it was not loading the bootloader then i fixed it using xda tools , after that i started getting wallaby bootloader 5.17
6. now after going to bootloader it starts taking various test and shows no sign of loading the new os.
--------------
now i have moved as per the instruction and tried everything mentioned above to install wk3 but all in vain....
dont know where the problem seems to lie....
need suggestions desperately...
--------------
current rom:3.17.03
stack:4.21
--------------
current rom working ok.
--------------
maybe it's a problem with the nbf file content ... did u try burning the nbf file directly to the ROM using the XDAtools ?
You arent hitting any other button when entering bootloader are you? Just press the stylus in reset while holding power, it shouldnt go into test mode unless another button is pushed, maybe you have a button stuck or something.
any more suggestions............
well if burning means choosing source to nk.nbf and destination to drop down
to sd card using xda tools then yes i did burning....
also i m sure no other buttons are pressed or thing like that....
any more suggestions............
I meant by burning to make the destination to be the XDA flash ROM
any more..
ya i tried burning to.,...
same problem.
can your sdcard reader read whats on the sdcard (it's not suppose to be able to read after it's been flashed with the rom)
also are you 100% sure that your nbf file is valid ? maybe it's broken
more suggestions ....
well after loading sd card , i cant browse to read it, moreover xda asks to format, which is the sign that card is loaded ok.
secondly i have tried nk.nbf file from siemens as well as yorche.net,
both should not give same problem, which it is.
this mention the 5.17 bootloader you should read it

The best way that I've found is to find somebody with a XDA that has the 5.15 bootloader then do a CE+BOOT TO SD then do a SD restore.
Sounds like a good project for some of the ROM Kitchen owners doesn't!

ROm Update form SD Card

is it possible to do that?
I brick my Heral when I trying to patch IPL, now it stack in boot mode.
I try al avaliable on xda ftp rom updates but always I got "Incorrect file" .
My Herald is from Rusia (cyrylica on keyboard)
it is indeed possible to do so. i am not sure of any IPL/SPL requirements, but here are the instructions.
1. take your sd card
2. take the .nbh file of the rom and rename it to "heraimg.nbh"
3. put it on your sd card
4. put it in your phone
5. go into bootloader. if already in bootloader, soft reset.
6. follow the onscreen instructions
thats how i flashed ttran's first '209 rom

it shows only checking sd content ant after that it is stacking on bootloader informations (IPL, SPL versions)
what kind of card is it? I do not believe this is possible with microSDHC cards as well as cards of a certain (relatively high) capacity.
Make sure your card is empty except for the file and that is formatted to FAT16 ( I think)
indeed your card must be formated by Fat 32 (use your Windows Explorer to format the card)
Besides this issue, I'm not sure if it is possible to do so if your devide got stuck changing its IPL. Which one did you try?
To make sure; use the official RUU rom from HTC.
Download it; open the exe file with WinRar to extract the nbh file included and use this file to flash your device.
Good luck
dont waste your time, those methods doesnt work. If u r goin to try to... "recover" your device with this method... you're just wasting ur time (you'll end up with a Invalid Certificate error)
theres no solution

It could be beacuse the ROM that you are trying to flash requires Hard-SPL.
