tomtom updates - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

does any one know where to go to download the speed camera locations into tomtom 2 . ?

You can get the necessary software @ http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/
The downloads for the speedcams are @ http://poiplace.oabsoftware.nl/index.php
On TomTom's site I also found this: http://www.tomtom.com/support/ce/support/nav_poi01.php

TomTom 6.01 versus TomTom 5.21

I compared TomTom 6.01 with my old TomTom 5.21 on my Magician (overclocked with XCPUScalar, 512M SunDisk UltraII SD, GlobalSat BT338 BT GPS). In short:
- slower and jumpy compared to 5.21
- no real maps upgrading (this may vary with region, I am in central Italy)
- some new marginally useful functions (this may be a matter of opinion)
Result: I dumped 6.01 and returned to 5.21
Good information.
Can we use maps from TomTom 5.00 with TomTom 5.21 ?
Thanks.

The maps of 5.1 and 5.21 where the same. Not sure about 5.0, probably yes.
Your test is totally wrong !! Start clocking your Magician to the original speed (416 Mhz).
With TomTom 5.21 my Magician needs ~ 20 seconds to start.
The new TomTom 6 needs exact 2 seconds! One to show the new TomTom start screen and another one to start the program.
The rest is stable like 5.21 is !
TomTom 6 - I like it.
TT6.1 is brilliant on the XDA mini II ! Far better than 5.21 and all the 6.5 maps are very uptodate.
Faster loading, better interface, better graphics... cannot be compared to 5.21
TT6 works fine for me. The maps are surely more up to date. As far as speed is concerned, I can not say it boots faster. But if you install the maps to a freshly formatted memory card, it should run smoothly. I tried 4kb and 2kb cluster size and 2kb works best for me. My device is not overclocked btw.
tomtom 6
I'd say it runs about the same. With some tweaks in pocket hackmaster it runs super. I use the Aplication speeds to set it to 650 Mhz 260 bus 65 mem and 65 lcd. Then it realy flies.
The maps are more up to date. for holland the map data is from 2006 teleatlas. The mobile / speed radars etc. Are working fine. However we in holland have more acurate and better uptodate alternatives ( flitspaal.nl)
However it includes a raster folder for images. If you use the satelite images. It does work quicker on the overview maps.
hi There
how to use a satelite images with tomtom 6
Regards
You have to install TT6 on your phone ! Not on SD or Storage !
On my MDA Compact it boots in exactly 2 seconds. Without any Overclocking. Just the standard 416Mhz.

Good for you. Unfortunately, I am not the only one to report TT6 slowness and map refresh jumpiness (just google for 'TomTom 6 slow' or browse forums at www.pocketgpsworld.com). It is also true that there are lucky fellows as you that report equal or better performance for TT6. So it seems a PDA/memory/OS/GPS receiver configuration/combination dependent problem. The chase is open...

TT5.21 satisfactoryly worked from SD without (startup was slow, but I do not complained about that). If much heralded TT6 is no more able to do this I would hardly call it an improvement.
TT6.01 works perfectly from SD for me, the startup is just a bit slower (maybe 1sec) compared to main memory but still way faster than TT5.21.

hi to all

Regards
sat maps, interests me too...
is that u have grafix then everywhere? like googleearth or other services?
by the way the voice (speaking) -file. what is iths name? and where is it located?
mine is gone missing after card backup+reformat+etc.....
Sat maps.
Q1.what are sat maps.
Q2. Where to get them.
Q3. Google earth ?
A1: What are sat maps.
Sat maps are a plus service and are located in the raster folder on your sd-card. They are not google earth ones Actualy it are not maps. Just static images to help rendering.
A2: Were to get them
Its a plus service so just download them from the plusmenu.
Or download them here:
TomTom Raster Europa
A:Some google earth functions can be use with the help of this program:
http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/help/ But that only helps with routing it doesn't add images.
Hope it helps, if you still have questions just ask.
PS. all jpgs include a .SAT file..

Best Gps Navigation Software

hello everyone!
i am going to buy a gps mouse today, the hollux 236, and now i am wondering, what you think are the best apps to use with a gps mouse!?
most of all i am interessted in navigation software, like TomTom for example. but what are the alternatives to TomTom? what's your recommended nav software?
i would also like to know, what other usefull apps there are to use with a gps mouse...?
any info is appreciated!
thx in advance,
krz
I would definetly go for tomtom navigator 6, its the best ive ever used simple yet effective
IGO - the best for driving navigation
Wich country
You will not always have the choice because not always navigation software have the maps for the countries you want.
for exemple, Tom Tom is a lot for Europe and USA and Mapking for Asia
I am using three on my Artemis:
iGO 2006 Plus with the lastest Portuguese/Spanish maps (2007.07);
TOMTOM 6.032 (8351)with the latest Iberia maps (675.1409);
ROUTE66 Navigate7 with the latest Iberia maps (Q4, 2006 i think);
Both TOMTOM and iGO work better than Route66 because R66's maps are very old and i can't find anything more recent. My favourite is TOMTOM because of its ease of use and overall speed starting up/navigating. iGO has got the looks and the maps are as good (or seem to be) as TOMTOM's.
I also have a TOMTOM GO V3 standalone navigator with version 7 of both the software and maps (Iberia Version 710) and those are way more updated than version 675.1409. Also it has much more detail on the maps.
All this text to say that if TOMTOM7 comes out for the PDAs it's gonna be a winner for me.
i would say garmin...now there is the new mobile xt prog for free for ppc...correct maps for europe...including deep city view
thx for the answers!
i think, i will give iGo Plus a shot....
what other cool tools should i get for working with the gps...?
i once heard of tools to programm or configure the gps mouse...?
interessted in more tips and tricks,
krz

Where do you get this sw free?
http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us
you can visit that site for further information, i guess garmin works the same way tomtom does, so you can get the software for free and maybe a test map and the only thing you need to buy are the maps. i didn't look up the price for a us / north america map now, because i am at work and the garmin site is really slow.

Cruise + GPS ?

Hello,
Is there any free gps software for the touch cruise ? Like tom tom, but free ?
Google a bit .....
In my opinion iGO8 is the best right now.
Rgds,
Depends where you're located, if in the US/UK, Microsoft Live Search is free and a great app.
I'm located in France..
And IGO8 doesn't seem to be free

QuickGPS data seem to go old quite fast, I update it just before going somewhere to make sure. Bad experiences with couple days old data, then TT6 cannot find enough satellites and it will loose signal quite easily.
The only GPS navigation software I know is Nav4All : http://www.nav4all.com/site2/www.nav4all.com/index.php
However, it needs a Data connexion to download maps (not working with WAP - it needs a true Data connexion).
Cheers.
OziExplorer is for free and there are maps
also for free
You can also use Google Maps in mobile Version.
It's not a real navigation Software but shows you the route and can connect to Built in GPS Antenna.
You can choose between mapview and satelite view like Google Maps/Earth.
All Maps of the whole World are included but you need a Dataconnection for download. It is possible to use the internal cache and surf the maps before going out, so you don't need a connection outside.
For me it was very helpful sometimes on places where are no official roads so TT does not work.

TomTom 7 - Which maps??

I have the UK v6.75 maps already, and there are a LOT of errors with them.
For example we living in a brand new house (completed beginning of 2008) and our street, plus half the streets surrounding us just don't exist on TomTom. I can't even set my home location because it doesn't exist.
I noticed on the TomTom site there are no further updates planned for the Navigator 6 maps (which are basically what I have).
I looked at the Navigator 7 maps option and they are supposed to be for Touch Diamond and Touch Pro only and you have to select specific network.
So my question... Do the new v8.15 maps work ok with the HD (TomTom 7.450) and if so which device should I select when purchasing on TomTom?
Depending on your version of tt7. Only the latest version 7.9 will apparently work with 815 maps. The navcore has been re-written to read the version 8 maps. Selecting the pro or diamond will give you the same maps. Beware, maps can now only be downloaded within tomtom home, and the only version of this that will connect to the hd, is version 1.15 (pda version), not 2.4. Check that you can connect before your purchase.

only the ones ending in 2003, 2024, and 2059
Thanks for the responses.
I think perhaps I should play it safe then and wait for official HD support from TomTom, I'm sure once they officially have a version available it'll be no problem to use the latest maps!

WRONG! Only the ones ending in 2024 work with 7.9 all the others are for the PNA navcore.

Oh, have you read this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445460
You can add Brazil 2095 to the list. To your credit, some 2003 maps don't work.
BTW, there is no need to yell, especially when you are wrong!
The problem I had was finding a version of TomTom that worked! The only one I've been able to get to work is 7.45, couldn't find a 7.9 version that worked (tried the Diamond/Raphael cabs and they wouldn't install). Anyone know where I can get 7.9 which works?
If you have 7.45 installed, you can try extracting the tomtom navigator application and the data file from the 7.9 cab, and over write the existing files in the navigator folder.
Interesting - I have one map under storage card, my documents and it is recognised - then I copy my other map 6.75 at the same place and it is not recognised !
WHY ?
Under the root directory is the old map - do I have to remove it may be ?
I`m using TT 7.45

You have to install new maps via TT Home so they are licensed properly.
I transfered by maps from my Kaiser, TT Home asked for the license key again to install them on my HD.

TomTom 6.030

I wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of the 6.030 cab file for TOMTOM 6. I have my maps downloaded through Home, but want the application to install again - I seem to have lost my original CD from the Advantage.
Please note, I'm only after the install file for the app, not any dodgy maps. I have two perfectly legal set of TT maps i wish to use.
Many thanks in advance.
try tomtom US, when I tried to find it from the UK website I could not fid it but the US website had it
In second thoughs Il do a better one
there you got
http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6736&Lid=1

Thankyou very much. Perfect.
