TomTom 7 - Which maps?? - Touch HD General

I have the UK v6.75 maps already, and there are a LOT of errors with them.
For example we living in a brand new house (completed beginning of 2008) and our street, plus half the streets surrounding us just don't exist on TomTom. I can't even set my home location because it doesn't exist.
I noticed on the TomTom site there are no further updates planned for the Navigator 6 maps (which are basically what I have).
I looked at the Navigator 7 maps option and they are supposed to be for Touch Diamond and Touch Pro only and you have to select specific network.
So my question... Do the new v8.15 maps work ok with the HD (TomTom 7.450) and if so which device should I select when purchasing on TomTom?

Depending on your version of tt7. Only the latest version 7.9 will apparently work with 815 maps. The navcore has been re-written to read the version 8 maps. Selecting the pro or diamond will give you the same maps. Beware, maps can now only be downloaded within tomtom home, and the only version of this that will connect to the hd, is version 1.15 (pda version), not 2.4. Check that you can connect before your purchase.

only the ones ending in 2003, 2024, and 2059

Thanks for the responses.
I think perhaps I should play it safe then and wait for official HD support from TomTom, I'm sure once they officially have a version available it'll be no problem to use the latest maps!

WRONG! Only the ones ending in 2024 work with 7.9 all the others are for the PNA navcore.

Oh, have you read this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445460
You can add Brazil 2095 to the list. To your credit, some 2003 maps don't work.
BTW, there is no need to yell, especially when you are wrong!

The problem I had was finding a version of TomTom that worked! The only one I've been able to get to work is 7.45, couldn't find a 7.9 version that worked (tried the Diamond/Raphael cabs and they wouldn't install). Anyone know where I can get 7.9 which works?

If you have 7.45 installed, you can try extracting the tomtom navigator application and the data file from the 7.9 cab, and over write the existing files in the navigator folder.

Interesting - I have one map under storage card, my documents and it is recognised - then I copy my other map 6.75 at the same place and it is not recognised !
WHY ?
Under the root directory is the old map - do I have to remove it may be ?
I`m using TT 7.45

You have to install new maps via TT Home so they are licensed properly.
I transfered by maps from my Kaiser, TT Home asked for the license key again to install them on my HD.

installing extra maps for tomtom

Hi,
Going to the states next week so i wanted to add new york and nevada maps for tomtom. I have placed the maps onto my mini sd card but tomtom can only find my original great britain map that i use daily. How can i use these usa maps? I think it's something to do with the current map file but i aint sure what i'm doing. Any ideas.
cheers
just stating the obvious, but have you tried changing map???
yes gone into preferences in tomtom to change maps but only map visable is great britain map?
I'm assuming you're running the updated tomtom version 5.21 and trying to install version 5.0/5.1 maps. These will not work, and you will not be able to see them in the map selection screen. I believe maps from version 5.0 are labeled as 566, while maps for tt 5.21 are 567. In the folder of the map you are trying to load look for a file named (statename).pna, if you open this with wordpad on your pc you will see which version map it is (probably 566).
I don't believe tomtom has released single US maps for version 5.21 yet (maps version 567). To get the 566 maps to work you will probably have to downgrade your tomtom navigator .exe to 5.0, however if you're using a bluetooth gps reciever it will probably stop working since this version does not accept ports 6/7. I'm in that boat right now
yeah that right just checked and the maps are for tomtom 5 not 5.21!!! dam needed them asap aswell. nevermind
im running tomtom 5.210 and in the verion info it states GB map ver562 and both the map and blutooth on port 7 works fine for me.
us maps
How did you get the USA maps to work on version 5.21.??? I have tried everything that I can to get it to work with no joy....
I am just hoping that new maps are release before I go to the states later in the year.
I am open to any suggestions / advice on how to get them to work...
Hi,
I too am using the 5.21 upgrade and all my maps still work, GB Map v562, France Plus v571 and Australia v568, application version 5.210 gps driver v1.20.
no problems with maps at all, have you tried downloading them again......
Limewire has them
cheers

I would ask TomTom tech support or get a refund if I were you .....
You can just use the old 5.0 exe.
Replace the 5.21 "tomtom navigator.exe" in program files\navigator with the old 5.0 one.
Just remember to first back up your 521 exe!
I do this all the time as in the States a lot.
If you just own 5.21 and don't have the old exe the suggest you download it from a torrent - you've paid for version "5" afterall.

Tom Tom Working But!

I have amanged to get tomtom 7.450 and it is working, i have downloaded the free map of London and all is fine.
However i want to add additional maps and this is where i get stuck. I have TT6 maps and would like to use them, i know that others have got this to work. However i cant access using tom tom home as the latest version of TT Home does not recognise the TomTom version 7 on my HD.
Is there another way to load the TT6 maps from the DVD to the device?
Can i get TT Home to work to transfer the maps, i did hear that TT Home 1.5 may be the answer but i cant find any where to download it?
Any help much appreciated
warning on the TomTom website when ordering maps for Navigator 7:
Remark "Please note that maps for Navigator 7 are only compatible with devices that have this software pre-installed. Please ensure that you have Navigator 7 installed on your device before purchasing a map."
The maps for Navigator 7 are 8.15 maps.
TomTom v7 is not supposed to be running on a hTC touch HD
tomtom HOME 2.5 is the one you need to install maps for Navigator 7. you can download tomtom HOME from the tomtom website (one of the few items you can download for free)
I am using Tom Tom Home 2.5 and it tells me that i am using an incompatable version of Tom Tom Navigator for my device and thus i cant install anything, to be honest that is why i am looking to install the maps without using tom tom home, or using tom tom home 1.5 which appears may work with the HD
TT7 does not support TT6 maps,
install tt6 instead, simple.

Can i ask if you have TOMTOM working on your HD:
What version of TT?
What version of the Maps?
Did you use TT Home and if so what version?
If you did not use TT Home how did you load the maps?
Sorry to be a pain but this is driving me nuts! and i really want to get this to work
I have been really stupid. I have installed TomTom7 9.10.9185 and it is working fine, I then purchased v8.15 maps for UK & Ireland but the link I have been sent just tells me to download through TT Home 2.5, which as you know isn't an option.
Is there anyway of downloading the maps that I have purchased from a direct link? Or can I get a refund?

To be honest I dont remember.
Here is however what I do remeber.
There was a thread around that told you how to copy files onto your SD card that made Home think that you had a different version as a device (pass on whihc one but is one of those hardware boxes for your car).
I used this and it worked fine, so then Home said it needed to update, after doing that I scaned for devices and it found a pocket pc.
So try the scan for device whilest connected else see if you can find that thread. it was a long time ago, sorry, not trying to be an A** but I just cant remember.

TomTom Home 1.5 worked great for me as it recognized the mircoSD card first in my Kaiser and then also a card in the HD. To locate TTHome 1.5 Google: fixya tomtom home 1.5. This then allowed me to move my 6.75 Western US States maps from one card/device to the other.

Tomtom 7.9 and Australia maps.

Just upgraded my Tomtom 7.450 to 7.9 on the HD and my Australia maps that were working in 7.450 are now not working. Incorrect activation code. Re-install 7.450 and works again.
Should it work?
Also. what are the diff between the two tomtom versions?
where did you get 7.45 and 7.9 ? I cannot install my 7.0 in HD it says that device is not supported

No can do legally mate. Only legal way to do it is to buy the new version from TomTom, but they don't sell it for Oz. Catch 22!
The chances are if your unit came with TomTom and Oz/NZ maps, its a hacked (illegal copy).
That would be me, do TomTom charge for the program or the maps? I have switched to Route 66 Navigate 7 which came with an old PDA but I don't want to delete the wrong bit of TomTom.

In theory both are copyright. The maps are the expensive bit, but you can't buy the latest version from TomTom. They are Sensis maps.
The problem could be the maps ... Are you using a v8 map ? v8 maps only work with the 7.450 version ... The 7.9 version can only use v7 maps ...
Tried it myself ...
Let me know ...
I'll keep it all as a backup, just for information, don't bother with Route 66 Mobile 8, it doesn't work well on the Touch and only activates for one device (the old one was three devices).

That may well be the case, but it is completely immaterial. To the best of my knowledge you can not buy a legal copy of TomTom with Oz maps to run on a PDA.

If you can find it free on their website, I would love to see where it is located.
All the stuff I have seen looks to be either hacked/cracked/or copied. If you know where it is legally available for free, please let us know.

Not quite so, but the 8.15.2024 maps seem to be the only v8 maps that work for the 7.910
I use v7.910 software with Western Europe 815.2034. There are several more 815.20xx reported to be compatible.

I suggest you read the TomTom End User License Agreement. http://www.tomtom.com/legal/?Page=Eula According to that, the TomTom software is protected by copyright.
To the best of my knowledge, there is a serial number. Its called UniqueID and it is located in the file called ttnavigator.bif The UniqueID (which is hardware related and copied in the hacked files,) and needs to be locked to the map files for it to work. In the hacked copies of TomTom, the UniqueID file is a not a genuine UniqueID.
FWIW, when I downloaded an update for my 710, it did check to make sure there was a previous version before it installed. So, as I understand it, if you install a genuine upgrade it will work (assuming the map is the right version,) but if you try and install "an upgrade" as a first time install, it won't work.
In short, I still believe the TomTom program is copyright and not meant to be downloaded for free on third party sites.
True, the unique ID is used to lock the map to the device, but NOT to lock the software to the device. As for upgrading, without a previous version it wouldn't be an upgrade but something new.
As for the EULA, the first line states "This EULA applies to you if you have acquired the Software outside of the United States and Canada."
Copyright does therefore NOT apply.
There are no licensing fees or activation procedures for TT software.
Please rethink your statement.

[REQ] Are there ANY software options for using GPS navigation in the US???

Hi all -
Is there ANY legitimate (non-warez) software for the Diamond that has US maps?
Tomtom - Version 6 doesn't list Diamond as a supported device, not sure it does VGA resolution, Version 7 there's no legitimate source for US maps.
iGo - no US maps
CoPilot - no US maps
Route 66 - seems to require an SD card
Garmin Mobile - requires SD card
Ostia - requires SD card
I just want to legitimately use my Diamond for navigation, but having a hard time finding any options. I've searched through the forums, but had no luck.
Thanks in advance!

I have Tomtom 6 on my old P3600. I'm guessing you purchased a Version 6 DVD and used that to load up your Diamond.
- Does TomTom 6 support the Diamond's VGA resolution?
- When you loaded it on your device, did the TomTom Home software recognize your device? If not, did you have to select a device from a list and which device did you select?
- I'm pretty sure TomTom stopped supporting the Ver. 6 maps. It's a bummer but I can live with it. Can you confirm your experiece / have you been able to update your maps?
Thanks!!!!

Hi ND -
Is OnCourse a part of iGo? The reason I ask is because the OnCourse site lists US maps, but the software is apparently only capable of 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution, while I think iGo 8 is capable of full 640 x 480 (VGA). If I could use the iGo 8 with the OnCourse US maps, that would be a good solution.
Were there any issues with just copying the SD data to your device? Others such as Garmin have required all sorts of finagling to get them to work such as keygens and such, and I really want to avoid any of that.
Thanks!

Hi Nomer -
I like the Garmin software, especially since it has nautical maps available. However, I read elsewhere that the SD card version can't be used with our phones because there is an internal code that prevents their software from being used without the SD. Since I don't want any keygen or other cracks, I don't think this is an option. Anything I do I want to have be fuloly supported by the company and their service department.

Yeah, OnCourse is the name for iGo in the United States. You can use the maps from one for the other since it is the same. For copying the contents, the only problem I ran into was that it couldn't find the directory where the maps are located. To overcome that, you'll need to do a search of the Diamond thread, but the most important thing is to change a certain config file so that it reads from the Internal Storage instead of SD.
Good luck!

My version of TT6 was on an SD card. I just changed the communication mode on the TD from Activsync to USB and connected it to the PC. Then put SD card in card reader and copied all files over. When I unplugged the USB lead TT automatically started to instal (that got me panicing a bit!). Went through normal installation, got correct code from TTcodes and it installed and automically found the internal receiver.
No new version 6 maps coming out, but plenty of old ones still for sale from TT - I bought one for Southern Africa a few weeks ago and could not find any errors in it when I used it when driving around Western Cape province on holiday.
TT6 works fine with the VGA screen - but everything is smaller - I find I now use 3D view rather than 2D I used to as that comes up bigger (as it does on all screens)
Another poster here today says when he installed TT Home 2.5 and plugged in his TD it automatically offered him a free copy of TT7.9 along with demo map. Still have to buy version 7 maps but they are more up to date than version 6 - although there have been lots of reports of them still not showing changes in roads.

Landshark - at the moment TT are not listing any maps for US or Canada for TTN7 - presumably because no legal version of that is available there. Strangely they do list maps for Mexico and Brazil!
In reality the price quoted for those (presumably Version 6) maps seems expensive - you can download US & Canada maps (version 6.75) direct from TT website for $70.

GPS Navigation

I have spent the evening reading all the posts on navigation. Have tried Tom Tom 6 and 7 with out success, tried the versions below:
TomTom 7 V7.450
TomTom 7 V7.910 (9185)(free ram 122.6)
TomTom 6 V6.033 (8358)
Please help, device just locks up
i tried to use many programs but they didnt work properly then i used Igo8 its perfect try it out
i have Garmin Mobile XT version 5 with 2009 maps. everything works fine but there is a lag of about 1-3secounds i guess? its fine but annoying when you have to do a couple turns one after another.. but oh well.. good enough. i tried Tom Tom 7.9 and 7.4 and they worked but i didn't like the layout and features\\
EDIT: im trying to get rid of the lag but im not sure how... does anyone have an SD card tune up? or know anything else i can do?
I'm using Tomtom 7.910 build 9185 with the 815.2024 maps, and it works like a charm. Try getting another version with the same buidl as mine.
Route 66
Have a look at "route 66" (66.com). seems to be working on a HD.
hm ... i got the v7.450 version workin on my hd.
TomTom 7.910 / Map v675 - West Europe.
Installation using the cab for TT and tomtom home for the map.
No lag, no installation issue, it just works.
Can you post the cab? Maybe mine is bad

This is the .cab i used and it works fine
Assuming I use this cab on my HD and it works, what do i have to do to get maps for it?
I assume i go to tomtom.com -> maps and choose Navigator 7 there, but then it asks for which device I want the map... does it matter what I choose there?
edit: tested the cab, seems to work, but of course i have neither voices nor maps. Have to try to get those...
edit2: if i try to add something to the device using tomtom home it always tells me that i have the wrong version of tomtom installed and that i therefore cannot use tomtom home. so, how do i get the standardvoices or a (at the moment purely hypothetic) seperately bought map onto the HD?
