how do i backup my rom on xdaII
I'm not entirely sure anyone has actually done this; (I've asked several times).
If you follow this link, I mention some articles I had found about backuping up the ROMs, but I don't know if anyone has done it. (Its on the second page or so...)
http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38598
Which device do you have? If its an iMate running ROMs 1.03.00 USA I would love to get a copy if you figure out how to restore the roms, (there are several roms to backup the OS, the Radio Stack, and the Ext_Rom)...
Good luck,
BTW: If anyone has already done this, could they please share these files, I would like to revert back from the 1.06.01 to 1.03.00

But thanks to this forum I can Usually/so far fix it....however, this time may be different.
I have without problem upgraded, downgraded radio stacks, flashed ROM's and altered bootloaders, but this time tried everything, read every post on this, 4 different seach peramiters no luck. I think I really did it this time Here's where I'm at:
T-Mobile phone edition
bootloader: 5.15
was rom: 4.001 Radio: A.20
on: AT&T Wireless US
Was having trouble with signal realized that I upgraded the radio last time then the ROM. Under T-Mo rom you could run the RSU upgrade and it would reintall the radio stack no trouble as long as you didn't touch the device. This time with A.20 stack it froze at 13%
Where I'm at Now:
Can: get bootloader
Can: change rom's via bootloader
Changed: rom to 4.0016 via bootloader
Cannot: get it to boot past Test only screen which reads G<blank> R<blank> 4.00.16<appears at bottom>
Cannot: connect to activsync
Cannot: get to today screen (no matter how many soft resets+holding volume+power on/off+power cable/no cable or any combonation there of)
Anyone been able to beat this hang? I think this is it for my little guy  unless a wise master can teach me something new to reincarnate it
Can you get anybody with a backup sd card of ce and boot from their machine and try that from bootloader. Maybe that would get you going and then you could maybe flash the radio again.
I had it too with that TMobile ROM. I posted in some threads, read virtually all methods. Nothing worked.
But I eventually fixed it by sending the unit back to the importer for service and had them replaced the main board.
Some of my stories are contained in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=25450#25450
You need to wait an hour or more to allow it to boot. It will eventually boot, from there you can retry the radio stack from within windows (copy the four files to your windows directory).
There is a thread on this.
Good luck.
Hal.
thanks guys I'll give it a go with the wait for an hour bit. Already am able to flash the rom so lets hope the one hour or more wait does it  I search all the threads just curiouse if you happen to know where it is post a link in this thread for others. I'm also going to search again and post it..if I find it this time that is
Hi All,
Today I upgraded my O2 XDA ROM and Radio Stack to the latest "official" versions (3.20.06 ENG and 4.21.00 respectively). I followed the instructions carefully, particularly WRT backup.
However, when I tried to restore my backup after the upgrade (via M$ ActiveSync), I get a "Device Mismatch" error - "Restore cannot be completed successfully. The selected backup file was created from a different type of mobile device...". It wasn't of course and I suspect that the error occurs because it was a different ROM version.
Anyone any ideas how to work around this? I saw a workaround for the problem on the ipaq (http://www.pc-counselor.8m.com/How_to/index.htm#backup1) but when I looked at the relevant part of my backup file, the value they said to change from was different (the 'howto' said it should be 0600 but in my file it was 0100).
TIA,
Rob Hills
i dont know if this is correct, or the right way, but this is what i woulda done: downgrade to old rom, then do a restore

Yes, I'd thought of this approach, but concluded that it leaves me with the old version of the OS and no obvious way to upgrade without losing my data.
u dont want to restore things from an old ROM anyway, wont be compatible, or may cause problems...so I've heard
Hey guys,
Im another newbie, but who is actually scared of screwing up the phone. I have the Tmobile MDA compact III obviously, and the information page looks like this:
ROM version 1.13.114.1 NLD
ExtRom version 1.13.114.101
Model nr ARTE 110
CPU OMAP850
Im not so sure what this information tells you people who are knowledgable about this, however can I safely use the customised powermap file from this website's ftp (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Customized_ROMs/) to change the phone to english?
What are the procedures EXACTLY please, and what problems should I expect.
Another thing, what is CID lock, and how can I see if mine is or not?
I checked most of the threads, so I am knowledgable about this issue a bit, however because none of the topics were specifically about the Dutch version I wanted to make sure. Thank you a lot for your help...
1. you have to CID unlock your phone. only real solution is imei-check website, and that will cost you $40. this will prevent MANY of the problems with installing ROMs
2. don't do updating on Vista PC, use XP or older
3. follow on screen instructions of your chosen ROM update utility. don't panic if it takes too long and looks like the update process has "freezed". make yourself a coffee and let it finish installing.
4. enjoy!
PS... i strongly suggest you read as much as you can on this forum before doing any upgrading.... then you'll know what to expect.... and of course, don't forget that only YOU are responsible for anything that happens to your device, good or bad... good luck!
hey dim4x4,
thanks for the post, I appreciate it. However is the exe file I mentioned (customised power map) the right one? i know there are a few options to chose from, like the 3 options of the pdamobiz.com website. While im not too clear of the main differences, the general concensus on the forum is that the powermap is preferred, and has a lot of nice things. Is there a better one? perhaps on a different ftp. Maybe if you have one you can send it to me.
Another thing, if it dont work, or works and I dont like it, can I get back to my original ROM, the dutch one from the tmobile dutch file on the ftp site as well?
Thanks
1. Personally, I use PDAmobiz Lite version. Powermap version has a map of Thailand which I don't need. "A lot of nice things" for my purpose is a lot of unnecessary stuff. If I need something I can install it myself into RAM or storage card. You have to choose the version which suits you best.
2. Everything is on this server. You have to register to log in http://www.wm-gurus.com/registration/signup.php
3. I went back and forth with different ROMs (versions, languages, etc.) without any problem until I found more or less what I want. Please note, my device is CID unlocked by imei-chek.
Good luck!
Urgent Help
I tried the powermap version of the ftp. This is exactly what I did:
I connected the phone and established contact through activesync, then I started the exe file. The DOS windows opened, and then it started initialiying, and the process started. It said that it will take 15-30 mintues, and the process has started. So far im sure everypone is familiar with those. However, I waited about 35-40 minutes, and still nothing different on either screens. The DOS window said however that if nothing starts I should reset the process. I tried but didnt work. At that time I tried to reset the phone and now it is stuck in the startup screen. All I see on it is the IPL/OS data, and it is not moving further.
Please help, what do I do now?
So this is what I did so far....
1. Flashed with PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1.1.2_PowerMap.exe (with device on Today screen)
2. The process started and stuck on "uploading file [don't remember] and as the instruction said I reseted the phone after 30 minutes.
3. All there is on is T-Mobile splash screen, version infos and that's it.
5. Tried to flash again in bootloader mode but the device was not visible by PC
How do I go from here? Maybe I need to flash the original rom version of the phone. I have the dutch tmobile mda compaxt III, but with the dutch ROM version on the ftp of this site is scary, because there are too many files and have no clue which one to flash.
Any suggestions?
There is no Dutch T-Mobile ROM available yet.
You could try the English T-Mobile ROM (art_tmouk_11311001_024990_wwe_ship.exe), which is available on this site: http://www.wm-gurus.com/registration/signup.php
There's a chance this ROM will work on your Dutch T-Mobile phone, if the signature is correct (I assume your phone is still CID locked).
Read this link http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Resets on how to enter the bootloader of your phone.
mRmAGIC...
I Tried That Already; But I Got An Invalid Id: So I Dont Know What Else So Far: Do You Think I Have To Cid Lock The Phone To Be Able To Try The Other Versions?

CID unlocking isn't possible if your phone isn't working.
If you don't have your original rom, you have to contact your provider to repair it.
try from bootloader screen
Hi I also did as u did but with a hards reset in the beginning. And it worked fine.read somewhere that if u dnt do a hard reset you could get into problems. If u can try to go to bootloader screen and try to flash from ther.
flashing from the bootloader screen gives me an error, the file cannot recognize that a phone is connected to the PC. that is the biggest problem I think.
DO you know how to flash the Tmobile NL version on the ftp. there is one that I dont know how to use
OK, I've RTFW'd, I've google'd xda, and found a couple of things, but what I really wanted from link below appears to have been moved without a trace ...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_DumpedRoms
Also I tried these... http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Also, I tried the below file too, but when it rebooted to the three colour screen it lost it's connection to active sync and returned the good old connection failed error.
ruu_hermes_tmhu_1.21.116.4_1.05.02.00_wwe_ship.exe
So what now? Well I've been fairly happy with WM6, but really just want to roll-back for now to get full functionality again (transcriber, MMS send while GPRS connected, quicker system, etc, etc).
Could anyone help with either of the above questions please?
Muchas gracias,
Vario II- - UK T-Mobile
HERM300
IPL-1.01
SPL-1.13.Oli
ROM 3.23.0.2
Radio 1.40.30.00
All ROM images were reomved from the site because of Micro$oft was complaining. you can down load the orignal ROMs from HTC. If you are a cingular customer withan 8525 here is the link to the site
http://www.htcamerica.net/index.html
If you are overseas then you will have to find the link to HTC for you vendor.
Install OLIPRO 1.10 SPL
then
Install Original ROM
Oh yeah, it will always lose the active sync while upgrading. This is normal its tryin to flash!!!
You can also try flashing VIA SD CARD.
Cheers
Thanks guys,
I'm a UK T-Mobster, so I'll try the bootloader change then re-ROM.
As for the ASync link loss, unfortunately it timed out the RUU app that was trying to flash the phone and nothing happened for over an hour, so I aborted.
Any hints for flashing from the sd before I step forward (ps yes I've RTFW'd that one too, just looking for personal experiences, caveats, gotchas, etc)
Cheers
Hi guys. I have a problem:
I don't want to have any warranty problems, but I don't want to use WM5 either. Vodafone gave me refurbished prophets several times, even after I had flashed AKU3.3 on it, the red theme was enough for vodafone, they didnt ask for a original rom, but I don't want to mess with my luck, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a WM5 rom backup ready:
I made a backup of the rom with the grab_it tool, but I have no idea how to convert it into a flashable format, like nbf.
I tried the "r2sd all" command on a jumpspl'd phone (mtty 1.1/1.42 and trueterm, none of these did work), but it gets stuck after some time, so that doesn't help either.
Dumping with aWizard didnt work the last time I tried it. The os was there I think, but without the bootlogo. And that isnt that great either.
Sadly Vodafone made xda-developers remove their rom backups from the ftp server. damn you vodafone .
So How do I get now get a backup of my rom? I can't hardspl it, because I need a backup of the 2.15 spl too and I dont know any other way to cid unlock my phone.
