"XDA Developers Rom" questions

I flashed my ROM with the XDA Developers Rom and it works ok but I have an issue which bugs me and I wondered if you guys could help me correct it.
1 ) When I get an SMS message, I don't get the popup "balloon" with the message text in it anymore. I have to remove the stylus, tap on the envelope or inbox to read. Small thing, but massively annoying and I can't see any upside to NOT having that little balloon pop up (which disappears automatically after 10 secs anyway).

the special rom is a pretty old rom these days
pretty few people use it i would say
everybody else cook their newer 2003 or 2002 roms in the rom kitchens
the SE Rom is an older rom that xda1 sold these days comes with

Oh right. Well, I don't want to have a go at cooking my own as I read already so many horror stories.
Even though the special ROM is old, I didn't expect it to have core problems all the same.

Actually, the WM2003 is MUCH FASTER than the PPC2002PE...
Any way, in "sounds and notifications > incoming SMS" there should be a tick "show message on screen" or something like this. :?:

While I appreciate the XDA Rom being available, it's pretty lame if it's an old one and one which isn't used anymore.
Is there a reliable source for cooked 2003 ROMs anywhere ? i realise that any ROM sources should be reliable, which I why i ask you guys.....

www.romkitchen.de is probably the best ROM kithen. You can get most of the latest PPC2002 and WM2003 ROMs togather with "must have" equipement.
I use 4.01.16 , but I"d not recommend it - too much T-mobile stuff... The only valuable thing about it is the built-in PDF viewer (+almost no bugs).

Ok, running it for one day
- After battery exchange (i have 2 of them), the password (simple PIN) i couldnt enter the device. The correct code just wasnt working. Made hard reset + cleaned up registry and storage and it was ok.
- Sometimes the radio just dont wake up. Maybe it is just problem with my BA as sometimes after the battery was taken out and colored stripes appear the radio and *next* version number are showing none (anyone knows why this happens?)
MioMap works perfectly, pairing the device with holux bluetooth gps works great.

anybody know to fix the error of window media player in this ROM?
It's very important for me?I can use other media's soft but....please help me!

I do not recall the exact reason this happens, but it is a known issue that happens after the battery is removed/replaced. The only workaround is to soft reset the device after this appears.

Flightmodus
Hi,
I have a problem with the Flightmodus. After turned off Phone in Commanager, the phone is off for about 10min. Then the phone turns automaticly on. The same when I do a softreset. Has anyone a solution?

i don't have some problem with flightmode.Everything is very well!

Ok... another problem... sometimes (cant figure out what triggers that) my phone is not "online" on gsm network.
Everyhing looks like it is working ok, but it cant be called from outside and when i try to call out, it immidiatly disconnects. Then i have to reset it, after that it becomes accessible again (and i can make calls too...).
Highly annoying, i hoped WM6 will fix this but the same **** happens...

Yes. WM2005 helmi and WM2006 helmi. It just happend. And i am not using additional software for now, well... miomap, but it is not loaded in mem. It looks to me like radio hangs.

Duke Nukem 3d

has anyone been able to get duke nukem 3d working on an att 8525?
I tried following the info on these threads:

not even needed to be installed my duke3d was put on the sdcard from my wallaby and i just copied on to newer sdcards it dont require an install all the files it needs are in it's dir and subdirs same with warcraft and fallout

the first Modaco thread you posted should work. I tried it on my Hermes and it works perfectly.

hmmm. Well I was trying the 2nd modaco link I posted and that would just get me a black screen after the grey one with the commands. Now I have tried the first modaco link and it gives me the same result but there is a slight difference. I hear music and I also see a white little number that keeps changing at the top left corner of the screen, and to the right ad faded x. Clicking the x does nothing, I have to softreset to get out of this.
Any ideas?

Just a couple of things to try.
Launch it with the keyboard already open.
The number and X are there correctly - though of course the initial graphic should be there as well.
The X which was designed to close the application was never enabled properly at least in my version so tapping it will to nothing.
So with it on the screen with the X - try hitting the return key once or twice and see what happens.
If you have no joy I can upload my version of it. Do you have your own version of the original game application on CD or did you use the freely available one?

I am using the duke3d.grp file from the full version atomic editon. Yes I still have my cd that I purchased long ago lol.
Well anyway, I am sorry I did not mention this before, but these are my phone specs:

MIKECHANNON - thanks for your help. I have tried everything you suggested except for tapping the return key. I will try that now and post back results....

Ok i've tried pressing the return key now too and that had no effect. I did notice something interesting though. Before I would always just reset because I could not find a way to exit the black screen, but after messing around with the screen this time I found that I can drag the black screen down If I touch the top center portion of it. When I drage it down, it will act as a program window or something with a top drag bar and I can also see a working x there that I can click and it will close it out.

My wife hates computers, and she does not want any at home. I do all my computer play at work. Soon as she figures out I can play games and such on my phone, she may just break it lol.

Pocket Informant - got it working?

Hi,
is there anyone out there that's got Webis Pocket Informant working on the Diamond2? I've tried their latest release 8.51 and an older 8.10, both on a cleanly installed D2 after a hard reset. Installing goes fine, but when I hit the 'Menu' button in the lower right corner to go messing around with it, it hangs the whole device. I have to soft reset it afterwards. This happens as soon as I start up the calendar.
Is there anyone that succeeded with PI?

Works fine for me with 8.51 via desktop installer

Thanks for you reactions. I'm still having the problem. I'm now guessing it has to do with the dutch version of the software. After all, the menu that's supposed to open is in dutch. Maybe something is too long for the menu, when it's displayed by TF3D.

Same problem with MENU button in DUTCH version here.

I have tried the english version, which works good. Every several days it crashes on me once though. I have seen the text on the last menu option, which is Close, being deformed though. One time it didn't say Close but Go to, and when I clicked it PI closed, like it should. Strange behaviour, but the english version is workable, when you don't mind not having dutch.

Yeah, but I'm not a paying customer. I was just testing Pocket Informant, since a really like their Note2Self and Flexmail software, which I bought. Didn't buy PI yet though and won't, if they don't fix this.

I can confirm this bug as well. Don't have a Topaz but the Custom ROM's for the TouchHD seem to have the same problem with the Dutch file.

Same problem here. Only difference is that I have a Rhodium (TP2) with a dutch rom. So its not a device issue I guess, seems to be an dutch-rom-issue.
Device hangs sometimes (about every 1-3 days) when soft-buttons are clicked to show menus. Soft-reset needed to get It going again.
ROM: 1.19.404.1 (51489) NLD
Radio: 3.44.25.27
PI version: 8.51

Menu bounce

Guys, on all the ROM's I've used, (currently Miri's one), when I flick up and down menus they just stop when they reach the end. The original HD2 ROM that I had used to sort of 'bounce' when they reached one end or the other..
Anyone know what I mean??
How can I reinstate this??

Hi, the scroll behavior you describe is called kinetic scrolling and this has changed in the new 6.5.x builds. If you want it back on a 6.5.x build rom search the fora for "PhysicsEngine.dll" of a WM 6.5 build and copy it to your windows directory. Maybe that will do the trick. But be prepared to do a hard reset ... eventually. (There aren't any other methods to bring it back so...)

I attached one to this post (it's from a 6.5 build). You can try it, but again maybe your device won't start. In that case your only option is a hard reset.

I replaced this with the 6.5.x original dll but the bounce back effect is like a tenth of that in 6.5. No where near the beautiful effect on 6.5. Is this the same for you guys?

Sorry but I am looking for a way to disable the bounce, is it possible to do without getting a custom Rom? I am on my stock Rom and would like to keep it, although I guess I will upgrade sooner or later. Thanks
