HTC Himalaya susceptible to cracks ... - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

What do you thing about this?:

Yup, these touch-screens are somewhat fragile: we had a broken one (on an orginal XDA) here too once.

leather case ...
should we use the original case? it almost doubles the size of the xda2 ...

you could just buy a screenshield

...like Brando screen protector?
I already have it ...but it helps with this problem?
ciao
marco

well from XDA developer Peter Poelman's post i asume that it were the touch-screens which would crack and since a screenshild protects that it would solve the issue i suppose
if it's the whole unit which is cracking up i would sugest something like thishttp://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=624
it take up much less space then the plastic (leather looking) case you get when you buy a xda1/2

Nice Silicon Cover

Hi guys,
In case people haven't seen this one before. A uhm.. Case for the himalaya, it makes the device look more cool, and less nerdy i think. Better then the typical admin style ledercase.
Would love to use this one, too bad it's so expensive.

It is available for less elsewhere. I am using one that I paid 900 baht (18 euros) for in Thailand. JavoEdge sells them for US$28.95 (22.30 euros). If you buy one, be sure to get good screen protectors too. I use the Martin Field's Overlay Plus. Now if I could just find a way to get a commission from these guys!
i would get this one
http://zxpro.com/catalog/product_16...20_with_unbreakable_screen_cover_cat_325.html
i havent come across any screen protectors which was able to save the screen if the xda fell on a corner of a table or something
the pure silecon imho protects the part of the xda which is protected the most already

I had never seen that one before. Other than the belt clip, it looks great; and I'm pretty sure you can remove the belt clip. Part of my problem with belt clips is that people here will steal your phone off your belt. No sense advertising you have an expensive phone.
I got one of those silicone cases (not the one with the screen protector, the first one). Cost about £5 off ebay.
Re: Nice Silcone Cover
I too bought one of the silicon cases. Very happy with it apart from one aspect: with it fitted, the Himalaya will not fit on the Sync Cradle! It is just slightly too bulky. This means I have to repeatedly take the cover on and off and, even over a week or so, I can feel the cover is less 'snug' than it used to be. I suspect it is getting stretched.

screen protector

whats the best screen protector and where can purchase get it from? (for the Exec)
cheers
Brando is good. From HongKong.
Expansys also sell good screenprotectors. Around £8
V
Here's the best solution....I bought a pack of 15 screen protectors (thats right!) for just around 15 USDs! The quality is great, and I have no issues....
Look around for Ultra-Slim Screen protectors from Pocket Solutions for the I-mate Jasjar, and you should find it....if you're having trouble finding the url, let me know and I could help ;-)
cheers,
San
Another thing that I forgot to mention is that, it uses "static" to cling on to the screen and NO adhesives...this ensures that it doesn't ruin your display!
I also love these, as they extremely slim making it seem as if you had no screen protector installed! I think their line of products are branded under the name ScreenGuardZ....
San
Before you put a screen protector on, I would guess that you should clean the screen first - otherwise you are just trapping dirt under the screen protector.
My question is...what do you use to clean the screen with? I don't use screen protectors and would be interested in finding out what to use to clean the screen with. Any thoughts?

Spectacle lens cloth, and the odd "breath" to clear stubborn marks.

Steve.

I find alcohol laden breath helps remove all but the most stubborn stains.

i got
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....PageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT
it is very nice, cant even tell its there
IMO, PPCTECHS AG and C2 is the best
Personally, I like my "Martin Fields" screen protectors.
Cheers,
Steve.
Whats the best tip for getting them on without bubbles ? Put one on my wizard and its bubble city.
My tips would be:
1. Make sure your screen is as clean and dust free as possible.
2. Peel just a little of the backing off from one end and offer up the screen protector to the screen.
3. Peel the backing off, and as you do so the protector will attach to the screen.
4. If have bubbles then lift a little and re-apply using something flat/smooth to push it down (DON'T PRESS TOO HARD - YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR SCREEN).
5. If you have dust under there, a straightened paper clip with a blob of Blu-Tac on the end will be able to reach in and get the dust as you lift the protector.
6. If you need to lift the protector, don't try to use something to prize the edge up - you will mark the protector, just use cellotape (clear sticky tape) on the protector, and pull on that - it will pull the protector up.
Cheers,
Steve.
Anybody have one lying around that they don't want and might sell it? Ebay doesn't seem to have any and all the other places i've looked don't seem so credible (like this). If you have any info, feel free to PM me.

Brando so thick?

Hi there,
finally I got myself a Brando screenprotector after everyone that you read is very positive about it, but i xperience that it makes the screen much more insensetive, i almost have to hold the screen all the time when i tab the screen. before it was much more sensible...are there different brando models, and i got the one that is superthick?
I know there are two kind of screenprotectors by Brando (in my preferite shop in Rome i have seen two of these), one of these is more slim
I think you have the other model and me too
Because also for me the display, wuth the screenprotector, is more insensitive
HI, Ive used these protectors for years now and havent found them a problem. It's true that you need to be a little more 'positive' on teh screen after they are applied.
However compare this to one day scratching or damagaing your very expensive screen and turning your Universal into a door stop!
There are two types... Ultra clear shiny style (which i use at the moment) and a anti glare version (which is better for outdoors sometimes as less reflections)..... Also the difference is that they dont stick to the screen, they simply stay there with the tack of the backing, thus you dont damage the screen when you try to remove them.
where in Rome?. I'm going to visit Rome in 3 weeks and I might pass by there
It's an Exec. The lid will close. Why do you need a screen protector? FWIW my 30-month old XDA2 has 3 very minor scratches on the screen that you can't see unless you look *very* carefully. The way I achieved such longevity was simply to not put the device in the same pocket as anything metal (e.g. keys, money) - seemed kinda obvious to me.

ummm - why??? :?:
To repair/replace the housing of a dropped and cracked exec possibly? To replace the grey casing of an MDA Pro with the oh so sexy black of the XDA Exec? Could be many reasons.
I also would quite like to know if it's possible to buy case components - I've got a particularly nasty scratch on the metal plate on the lid which probably knocks a load off the 2nd hand value. Depending on what I am offered when it's upgrade time, I may want to "refresh" the look of the Exec to get the maximum resale for it.
I changed the case on my m600 last night and it was not a pleasent experiance.. it is possible but very tricky. sellers on ebay often have complete chassis you can buy
I design and protype notebooks for living and i still found it tricky!

You'll need to replace the entire lid - you can't just remove the metal section as it's so thin it bends very easily and will not stick back down again properly.
xda-dev member 'monster' had my last xda exec casing for the time being, and they are not cheap - about £40 for everything including a new hinge and hinge cover. No, I don't currently have any, and no, I can't let you know when I get some - I'll make it public when I have any more.
HTC will refurb a mda-pro or m5000 for about £90 but not the exec :-(

IT FELL BADLY !! :(

Hey guys,
My prohpet survived a fall from aprox 1,5 M hight.
However, the front cover got damaged (bent) a little so that the device is a litle split open on one side. If the display is on, light is visible from the sides. Now i am scared that raindrops will get inside.
Is it possible to buy a new front cover? how about installing it?
AND, how do I know if something happend to my Prophet? I mean in terms of hardware, it still functions allright, the display is okay too.
Do i have to worry?
If it works it works
Replacement? Ever heard of Google )) ?

I had seen a UK seller for replacement case on Ebay, but cannot find it anymore. However, there are plenty of sellers there for silicone and metal jackets/cases for the Prophet (search as "Neo", the O2 branding).

www.cnn.cn for your Prophet housing. It'll cost you but it is a full OEM housing. It says it is for the Dopod 818Pro but the picture shows a Qtek S200 housing. Either way it will work for any Prophet.
