Hello everyone,
I would like to be one of the first ones to wish you all a happy new year since this is my first post to this forum.
I bought the i-mate pda recently and I am very happy with it, but I used to own a SonyEricsson P800 and I got used to resource sites such as my-symbian.com to know all about the new software releases and even rating of the software, so is there such a resource for the Pocket PC 2003 mobile edition?
I have checked Handango.com and Microsoft PocketPC websites but they are not quiet the valuable resource that my-symbian was to me?
So I would really appreciated if anyone could direct me to good PocketPC up to date software releases and reviews.
Thanks and happy holidays.

Press release
In an unprecendented and bold move, O2 has licensed the process of providing upgrades for their XDA PDA-phones to 'XDA-developers', an independent group of developers working on the XDA. Starting today the XDA developer support link on Source O2 will point to the XDA-developer fora.
"When we started looking for a partner to outsource this to, we quickly discovered most of the real tech-support was already being handled by XDA-developers, so they were the logical choice, really. And our own support for developers just could not match theirs. The XDA-developers have also been instrumental in achieving cultural change here at O2. For instance: they've helped us realise we would be better off in the long run if we upgrade all remaining 32 MB units to 64MB and if we stopped selling SIMlocked units.", says H. Uphisas, product manager for XDA at O2 Europe.
"It's challenging to now have access to all the knowledge, and to open it up to the world. Having full hardware documentation, and being able to create our own ROM upgrades has long been a goal here at XDA-developers. This partnership will allow O2 and the XDA customers to fully benefit from our knowledge of the device and of what its users and software developers want. O2 has done a great job of supplying upgrades and support in the past, but we feel confident that we can make further improvements.", says Peter Poelman, spokesperson for the XDA-developers.

But really: why couldn't some provider just "open it all up"? They'd sell more units and more call-minutes, and they'd have less work. Right?
April fools, right?

Ofcourse. I would have taken more trouble to launch it as a 'real' press release if I had thought about it two days ago...

Best regards and thank for your great site
ps: i can help you to weld memory upgrade to 64 Mo in france near marseille ...
been using xda since last year of nov. of last year... and ever since i never changed my unit... its cool and its sleek......I love this phone!.....
More power to all of the developers!
I agree what is happening in XDA-developers pages and forums is more important and even more proffesional than any company. My respect to every member of this family as you have givin us the chance to improve and fix the mistakes by the people who call themself PROs ...
Forgive me for being naive, but I wonder if the o2 Developers WOULD actually look favourably on some tie up with the guys and gals here? (if it hasn't been tried before).
I'm sure o2 suits would have a fit, but there could be room for 'informal' dialogue.
Please let me know if I'm away in La-La land...

I thought you people would never ask...
I don't know what your role in O2 is, but I'll assume you're serious about this. By all means, let's have some serious discussion between O2 and some senior XDA-developers. At the very least, I can see many ways of working together which would help optimise the flow of information between O2 and the users.
About the suits: I really think we can come up with ways in which any proposed cooperation would actually end up making more money for O2 and provide better support for the users.
Please provide me (either personally through E-mail, or publically here) with what you feel would need to happen next. Maybe we should create a new forum, in which we provide access to womever for O2 would need to be at the 'table', plus some reasonable XDA-developer delegation.
I was personally thinking of about 5-10 people that all regularly post here and that seem to have an opinion or interest in making stuff better. Shall I propose a list for this delegation in the next few days ?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH! - (sound of man rushing to stem confusion....)
>>I don't know what your role in O2<< - No, no - I'm nothing to do with o2 apart from donating them hard earned cash every so often.
I'm the kind of guy who specialises in 'sensible compromise' through my job, so was applying that logic to here as well.
But seriously folks... as you lot here obviously have a lot to offer the disgreacefully under resourced o2 dev dept, have you actually tried picking up the phone / sending a discreet email offering some tie-up? Not too sure what the financials would be, but a free XDA every other month must be a possible.
Lol, they should do this now .
Good old times...
Hi guys ive currently got a site, which is all about PSP's, i've kinda got bored with that subject now. I'd like to start a site specifically about the xda EXEC, but i need some help.
Also just wondered if anyone would like to give me a hand and they would be publicised in doing so. If interested email me at d.raspe at btinternet.com OR god at day66.com
(obviously replace the "at" with "@")
Cheers Damien
Damien - what's your psp site? I've just bought one from ebay, so hopefully I can start figuring out dax and ziso and all of that stuff. Who knows, I might even do some programming on it... one day.
Does the world need another Universal website?
What would be your "angle"?
V
RE: Site proposal
Well, i started off with psp's a while ago, set up a site Hxxp://www.day66.com but never really got around to finish it, and the lack of knowledge of .php held me back a bit!
I'd like to set-up this site, because it will be nice to have a site, just for the exec, pro, universal. So people who have these phones can come to one place and download programs etc.
What do you think?
Did you say you had just brought a PSP?
Damien
Yeah, just bought a psp off ebay, should arrive tomorrow. If it doesn't come with a free Nigerian Scammer in the box, I'm going to be downgrading and hacking this time tomorrow... Mrs Vijay555's red hot poker willing (I haven't broken the news to her about the PSP. Let's not mention the 2gb Memory card. And the Bluetooth headphones for my Mio...)
If you've got any useful tips, feel free to PM me
Regarding the exec - well, hopefully the Wiki here is a good way to tie information together. I've got no problems with every member setting up his own website, but I think it just becomes a duplication of efforts, which is why I'm here all the time! My own website lies neglected, withering away like the now useless legs of my God Emporer body. But my new website will hopefully be a bit sexier

I'm a recent purchaser of Cingular's new 8525 (although i did come close to ordering an unlocked Tytn online, but damn, I couldn't justify the price whatsoever, lol). So like a bunch of you, it was time to start compiling a list of "must have" scripts for my pda. Unfortunately, I had to go to 4 different forums, and two freeware sites to find what I wanted.
So I had a brainiac idea..create a damn one stop file repository (not a wiki) where people could upload and download at will.
http://www.8525software.com was born. Built it in two days lol. Got the phone three days ago
I invite everyone that owns a Tytn or 8525 to contribute or download new programs that could help themselves and everyone. Having a one area repository, in my opinion benefits everyone.
Guest priv's allow for quick upload, but must wait for admin approval. Logged in users can get auto-approval for their uploads.
Any help is greatly appreciated Is there really a lack of great hacks or software that is NOT free for the 8525?
anyone thought of this ? with all the smart developers here I'm sure it';s very doable.
like the Lenovo laptops have the VeriSign sofware. something similar for our ppcs. it would be pretty cool. sorry if it was already discussed maybe.
if it was maybe you can point me in the right direction. thanks
android has a free program something wallet that uses the camera to look at your eye before unlocking. great program if you dont want anyone looking into ur phone
jaygriggs,
I've searched all about xda-developers for the program you mentioned.... do you know where I can find it? Thanks

i'll bet if you get ahold of a g1 you'll find it
hey if your in luck GOOGLE may even have something on it.... not like they have lots of information cataloged, or that they at all had a hand in the android operating system.....
biowallet
ask and you shall receive
http://whyandroid.com/mobile-news/205-biowallet-secure-your-device.html
But biowalett is for G1 and android only, is there an alternative for windows mobile?
BioWallet isn't even available yet. From the web site:
Availability
Many of you have shown interest in BioWallet these months and have asked us about the availability of the product. We really appreciate it.
Some of you even have got a T-Mobile G1, the first public Android device and want to install BioWallet in it.
The bad news is we haven't been given the possibility to get one and we don't want to release a product that hasn't been thoroughly tested on real hardware. We think it wouldn't be neither professional nor fair for you.
The good news is we keep working hard to deliver a software that meets your highest quality expectations. We will try to get a device somehow in the next few weeks and then our intention is releasing a version through the Android Market and other distribution channels.
If you want to be in the loop just subscribe to the list of BioWallet News and we will keep you posted!
By the way, once we complete the initial tests we want to start a beta program to test BioWallet in as many Android platforms as possible. So if you have an Android device and want a free BioWallet copy to help us to test it, just subscribe to the list of Beta Testers and you could be selected!

Hi Guys,
I have come to you with great news: Pebbles, the remote control software, goes (probably) open source. At the moment, I am in contact with Brad Myers, the former head of the development team involved in Pebbles. The Project has been stopped a long time ago, but I am trying to convince him, that a release of the source code to open source under a GPL License is way better than simply abandoning such an excellent project.
I also told him that the best programmers concerning Windows Mobile Devices can be found here. So I hope that there are some experiences programmers with a bit free time in here. I can deliver all necessary graphical elements as I am familiar with this subject for over nine years now.
A quick information for all of you who do not know what Pebbles is:
It consists of some sub-tools, for example Shortcutter, which allows you to define your own buttons. These can send keystrokes and commands to the PC via Bluetooth ActiveSync. Basically, it is a remote control tool.
Furthermore, there is Scribbles, a tool which is used when you are holding a presentation. You write on your device and it will generate an overlay onto your presentation.
And there is also RemoteCommander, a kinda-VNC which also supports Scribble.
There are some more, to be found here.
Hopefully there are some programmers willing to put their efforts and experience into this great project. I am sure that the base of the software is well-written, as it still runs smoothly and without a single problem on my current hardware specs, which are Windows 7 (x64) on 8GB RAM and an HTC Touch Diamond with Windows Mobile 6.1.
For any further questions do not hesitate to post in here. If the project is opened on Sourceforge, I also can give you my ICQ and E-Mail details if needed.
I am looking for your responses, please also do vote the poll.
Regards,
Zuzler a.k.a. Stefan
Below, you can find an excerpt of my recent contact with Brad Myers from the School of Computer Science in Pittsburgh:
That is an excellent idea. We will look into the legal issues and get back to you. It will probably take a few weeks to work out.
Are there lots of windows mobile devices still? Does software for old devices work on newer ones?
Any recommendations for where to put our source code so people can work on it? Like sourceforge or something? What do people mostly use?
Brad Myers

My reply on this was:
Yes, there is a whole new generation out there. I for example got an HTC Touch Diamond, which has a resolution of 640x480 pixels, over 500 mhz and 4 GB storage. It has a touchscreen (it has just four keys, e.g. for answering calls and going back to home), GPS ans WiFi support. My Operating System is Windows Mobile 6.1 whereas my regular OS (i.e. at home) is Windows 7 (64 bit), and Pebbles runs smoothly on it. So I think Pebbles already has the best start as there are no OS issues with Windows as far as I am aware of.
For more information on the GPL you can have a look at the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License). On the bottom there are more links to the original text. I would recommend he GPL Version 3, which is the latest one.
Sourceforge would also have been the platform of my choice. I will create a topic at the xda-developers.com forums to collect peoples responses on this subject.

Reserving this post for future updates.
I am interested in this. I'm using an old Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard, OMAP180 200MHz) upgraded to Windows Mobile Professional 6.5.
I'm already using SallingClicker which offers similar features, but I'm always willing to try something new...
Hi,
yes, Salling Clicker is a similar tool, it offers many features but the knowledge you have to have on order to create a working script is way too much.
I hope that there are some programmers here, which are willing to support this project. Then we also can create a wishlist, new features which should be added in 'our' first release.
Regards
An open source project would be awesome!
Looked at the specs of the original program, and it looks nice! Make it up to date, implement full touchscreen support, and this would be a winner!
I hope that I will receive a confirmtion by the end of this week.
One problem however is, that I do not have any experience in coding, the only thing I can do is graphics.
So my plea to all of you coders out there is: When time has come please have a look at the source code and tell us, if you can help us.
Maybe we also can create an "award system" - users request features, when they are implemented they can donate to the developers.
Maybe a mod can move this thread to the new created subforum "Windows software development"?
Regards,
Zuzler
I'm really looking forward to this software! It is bookmarked and I hope that we will have a nice new version...
