Some people say the version of PocketIE on the XDA-II supports, some say it does NOT support https connections.... can anyone tell me the truth ????
I can say that I've logging into my bank, and my work email server which both require 128bit https connection. Both log in flawlessly.
I have the XDA II i-mate version (non-O2) from expansys.us
https
I used bank and sex site today - no problems both https
Inconsistent Https support on O2 Xda2
Maybe this is a resolved topic, but I did not see the answer: does Xda2 support https?
I checked one unit (O2,1.60WWE) and it did.
I checked another (O2, 1.72WWE) and as soon as it sees https it says page cannot be found.
Any ideas?

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased an XDAII and brought it to the states and am currently using it on AT&T's GSM/GPRS network. I can VPN into my corporate network and have validated a VPN Session on the server side...but for some odd reason I cannot hit my intranet site or any servers on my network. I think it is a setting I missed or configured incorrectly on my device. Anyone have any suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Richard
Richard, I'd be interested too, as it's exactly what I want to do. What VPN software are you using? I was planning on using the Secure Remote software, PDA version.
Can you get access to the firewall logs to see what is happening, any drop or messages, etc?
Securemote and Himalaya type phones
Guys, I have a similar problem and checkpoint doesn't currently himalayas!!!
Anybody has a solution?
Thanks
Moustapha
I know the problem
I know the problem(I think), it's the fact that using the default (built in) VPN client the XDAII doesn't pick up the subnet mask from the VPN, it generates it's own based on the class of IP address, setting nthe dhcp server to dish out class c addresses works on my set up - will keep you posted though!
got it working SecureClient 131/ NG FP3 SecureRemote / GPRS
Hi
I have installed the SecureClient for WM2003 Build 131 and the Firewall is a NG FP3 only with SecuRemote configured. First i needed to change the authenification schema on the firewall an enter a pre-shared secret. After that i was able to establish the vpn tunnel.
I tried putty and temrinal serrvice into the internal network and both was working . I just got a message that the secureclient was not able to download the client policy, but i just ignored that.
Hope this helps

Hi all,
I have an imode subs. which originaly is only to be used on reserved mobile phones from the operator. I could have the parameters to connect from all phones. It is working nice on my Xda2.
But the proxy they use only allows me surfing (port 80).
Therefore I would like to know how I can bypass the proxy (10.10.100.10:5080) with my own home server translating/forwarding the request from my XDA.
Example :
I connect GPRS with my XDA, I tell my Pocketoutlook to use pop server "myhomePC.com:80" and my home PC will transfer to "MyPOPsupplier:110"
Same could apply for other services...
Thanks For your help :?: :?: :?:
not possible, it is a http proxy so it restricts which connections you make to port 80. Out of my experience with imode i know going to the proxy for POP3 does not work. The only thing which is easy and I also use for my email is http://mail2web.com. There you can check POP3/IMAP (+SSL) to read your email on your xda 2
hope this helps
Ever tried this one ?
hi thanks for your reply. Have you ever tried this one ?
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=9539
Can some users of Imode on XDA try it and let us know the results ?
I can have it working... do not know why because it is only http requests.
Thanks
Stéphane
That is because it tunnels your mail over HTTP. This is only possible with MSN or hotmail accounts and not with other POP3/IMAP accounts.
Hello everybody,
As you know, many people experience a sever issue concerning sending an email (smtp server connection problems) via mobile devices in WM 6.1. However this has been resolved by an official patch recently released by microsoft.
But now, (the reason i'm opening a thread). Because the HTC HD has the newer WM 6.1.4 version, microsoft claims that this version did allready include the bugfix, and therefore the standalone patch will not install on these systems. Logically seen, Microsoft thus assumes that WM 6.1.4 doesn't need a patch. Too bad for them however (and for us), they were wrong. The bug is still not removed..as i'm still experiencing smtp connection problems.
I searched this whole forum for (a) solution(s), but the only thing i found is the fact that most people are just giving an explanation for the problem i and others undergo right now, not a solution. Thereby i'm asking, if anyone could come up with a solid answer to this problem.
Thank you.

Windows Mobile 6.1.4 still has the SMTP send mail bug
Talk about falling between the cracks! I have a Touch Hd on Orange UK and am totally unable to send email smtp. Of course, the patch does not apply to our version 6.14 , as it is not supposed to have the send email problem. Hah!
C'mon HTC HD users on 6.1.4, join up and post to this list, this is a MAJOR problem.
Have you tried the .cab suggested by this link :
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/10/15/windows-mobile-smtp-fix
I use AOL for my email and used to have the error message, but not after installing that .cab. (Install at your own risk)
same problem:
htc touch hd and win mobile aku 1.4
smtp fails, tried ANYTHING and the patch doesn't work on this version of win mobile.
please help!
I had this problem also.
Problem seems to be with smtp server access. I am on Orange UK and use the smtp.orange.net server to send email and it works fine. I can't use any other smtp server from my email accounts.
You may need to sign up for an orange email account as the smtp server requires authentication.
Hope this helps

i had same problem im on orange uk aswell, chucked in that smtp server and works perfect, no email needed and i didnt ticket the requires auth box and it works,, thanks alot maybe orange are blocking other smtps?
While they will release a fix for the fix at least for Blackjack owners, I'd recommend to keep hammering their team blog in order to raise awareness of the problems you have:

I think Orange are possibly blocking the smtp access as you say.
Anyway, smtp.orange.net has saved the day
I don't have orange, i'm using the universities webmail server. I really can't fix the problem, this is frustrating me.
Well I searched the forums all over the interweb for a week now, and did not find an answer so I post.
I live in China and as part of the Expat Survival Kit I run an OpenVPN service to solve my facebooktwitteryoutoube problems. The provider is strongvpn.com, or other name reliablehosting.com - reliable, they are, and responsive and helpful and everything.
The VPN uses a San Francisco server, so anytime I fire it up on my PC, I have a USA IP, and can access Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Pandora et al. Bingo.
I struggled days to hack this connection on my Hero, and finally managed, it works, it connects. Apparently.
Now here is the hick:
- I connect on the Hero with TunnelDroid, using my original StrongVPN config file. It takes some time, but usually connects, either WiFi and Edge.
- I check my external IP, it's the good old Frisco one, I seem good to go
- I can surf sites like e.g. Amnesty International, impossible without VPN. I can use Pandora, so definitely I have US IP. Eventually if there is an embedded Youtube vid somewhere, I even can see and try to start it (although it's dead slow)!
- But, none of the social integration features work. I can not log in into twitter, facebook etc, and when I try to visit those sites with the browser, I have the same result as without VPN, nada. Timeout, service unavailable, technical problem, you name it
Now, if there is any developer / network or VPN expert / GFW operator / Google guru around... I really want to understand exactly what the problem can be - that would help some fellow Hero owners here in China
I changed the "hosts" file that I found on some forums... I tried to boost the process with some web proxy... Tried everything - nothing works.
How is it possible that I'm behind a VPN, I have American IP reported by any software you can imagine, and still I'm blocked, while everything works fine on the PC with the same VPN connection???
I can live without these apps and sites on my Hero...but can not live without finding out the truth
你有没有把DNS设置成OpenDNS的地址或者GooglePublicDNS的地址?
GFW好像会返回伪造的ip,纵然你有US的IP也无法访问一个假的IP,对吧
Ok,if you're hard to read Chinese...
Use a OpenDNS address or Google Public DNS address instead of ISP's,All of those DNS server are GFWed.They'll reply a fake ip address of Youtube.
Not working
Thanks,
I tried this way, but still no result.
How can ANY filter get through an 1024-bit secured openVPN connection anyway????
And on the PC, the same connection works flawlessly...
Is there any routetable or something like that?a modified hosts?some ROMs will do that.
a VPN connection will route all of your data in normal, but if you set a routetable, some special URL will not pass the VPN,
check them or flash a foreign ROM instead and try again.
Good luck
AFAIK the standard Hero kernel does not come with the tun.ko driver (which is necessary to capture the outgoing traffic and redirect it to the tunnel). Did you install a custom kernel, too? E.g. newer MoDaCo images have it by default.
I did nearly everything...modified hosts. Running MoDaCo 3.0 with newest 1.9 Tekn. kernel. Installed the openvpn binaries. And the connection WORKS, just not for everything...
Anybody in China who can use the social networking features on the Hero?
Ps: the reoutetable, I don't really know where to look it for...
I don't know the answer, but you can debug it yourself with a computer and wireless access point:
Hero <--wifi--> AP <--ethernet--> Computer running packet sniffer <--Internet-->
A few comments:
Don't consider Pandora as proof of a US IP. Better check on a website that gives actual info about your location.
The comments about OpenDNS and hosts files are helpful, but both assume that the wrong IPs are not already cached somewhere. Make sure all caches (DNS, browser, etc.) are flushed.
The easiest way to find out if the DNS is the problem is to do a ping to youtube.com and see if the IP range really belongs to Google or of it's a random IP elsewhere. You can use a 'whois' command or website to figure out who the IP belongs to.
Please note that OpenVPN does not encrypt at 1024-bit. 1024-bit is just the initial key length, which is unrelated to the 128-bit or 256-bit of the actual tunnel.
Btw, you don't necessarily need to use OpenVPN. Lighter protocols like PPTP and L2TP may perform better on a phone. China Unicom works well with both. China Telecom works fine with L2TP.
Greetings from Shenzhen.

Hi,
not sure if this thread is still alive but i give it a try...
I' currently running elelinux 2.4 with [email protected] on my HTC hero and have trouble connecting to a friends VPN.
the VPN server is in Germany and it works well for my friend, who is also hosting the server. however when i try to connect the server records following:
read UDPv4 [ECONNREFUSED]: Connection refused (code=111)
and it seems that my phone is refusing the connection to the server...
any ideas?
thanks!

hi there , I don't use elelinux 2.4, but i encountered an same error with CM 7 nightly build, and I believe that is an issue of the kernel you are using for the kernel have some problem with the tun.ko moduel , here is the thread ( read from page 42 ) :
forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14455-cm7-discussion-of-nightlies/page__st__860
sorry , i haven't get the permission to post url here yet .
thanks for the link! seem like it does not work with my current kernel, will fash the flykernel from elelinux and try again.
Hi all,
since a couple of days I have a new HD2 and it's fantastic!
On my old Diamond I was able to enable the NTLM support in Network section of Opera config file but, with a big surprise, in the current configuration (on HD2) the NTLM is missing (in the Network section and other of configuration file).
Since I need authentication for ISA proxy (via NTLM) on company intranet (my connection is through dedicated APN that link directly on company intranet) I can't use Opera on my HD.
Any suggestion or workaround?
IE works corretly but don't suppport multi touch zoom so I would like to use Opera.
The previous version of Opera installed on Diamod (last italian official ROM) work perfectly.
Thanks all!!
I'm interested in this too (just bookmarking the page really).
I use IE as Opera doesn't work, but would rather use Opera. I browse private folders via IIS and don't have the opportunity to log in with Opera.

Doing the same (bookmarking), just for fun I tried to check some webapps on my corporate Intranet set up with IIS integrated authentication and it worked perfectly with IE. I didn't try with Opera. Will do on monday and see if I can come up with a solution

Opera doesn't offer a dialog to enter domain authentication. It just says "the server requested a login authentication method that is not supported."
It seems pretty sure of itself
I'm not entirely happy about this, but there appears to be a workround...
http://forums.asp.net/t/305782.aspx
Doesn't help if you don't have admin rights on the server, of course.
You are right on both accounts! It IS very sure of itself. As MS would say, this is not a bug, this is a feature or this is by design.
As for the workaround, I hadn't seen your post until now and being sysadmin for a lot of IIS servers, I thought about the same solution, tested and it works. I came back here to report about it but you beat me to the post by almost 48 hours -
Anyway, it's not a good solution and not everybody with a HD2 has admin rights on the IIS servers of his company.
So we are stuck with IE until maybe a new version of Opera mobile. After all, Opera on desktops supports it (sort of...)
Ok, thanks for support.
What sounds strange to me, is that Opera installed on my old Diamond implement the NTLM authentication and the version on HD2 (newer) not at all. Moreover I installed the Opera 10 beta and, in this version also, the NTLM support is missing (I don't find it in the configuration file).
Why they removed it?
