can't email out except [email protected]?? - Networking

i have the imate ... i set up the account with my email as [email protected] using mail.optonline.net incoming /outgoing now i can recieve from everyone ..i can only email out to another @optonline.net account .......no @aol.com or business account [email protected](my business address at work)...it returns saying account invaid?? so what iam doing wrong....please help

I guess smtp.optonline.net only accepts mail from users form their own domain...
This is called non-relaying.... and is used as a anti-spammeasure....
There is not much to do about it...

thanks i will ask them...also what is smtp.optonline.net because now iam using the mail.optonline.net for in /out and leavong blank the domain .....but also i do have a aol account will that work is it a pop account also .....

i just assumed they would use smpt.optonline.net because smpt IS the protocol thats used, but they kan gife the server any name, so be it mail.optonline.net
Smpt is for sending mail, pop is for retieving it. If you have an account you can use with username and password for outgoging mail to, the problem should be fixed....

Thats what I was looking for "T-Mobile"
so on your device use myemail.t-mobile.com for Outgoing mail.
Yes you can get your AOL mail but you'll have you use their email program.

T-Mobile's SMTP server (myemail.t-mobile.com) works on all (6) of my pop3 email accounts. Then again I do have their unlimited internet but that shouldn't make any difference now since you can get T-Zones free.
Read UNLIMITED FREE GPRS access now on tmobile
http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4051&highlight=free+tmobile+internet
BTW what T-Mobile AP are you using for your connection? It should be set to wap.voicestream.com.
HTH

Thought :!:
Make sure you're not using "Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication" in your Pocket Inbox settings.
HTH

Qman thats it.... when i first started i was using the internet2.voicestream it did not allow rec and send then they said try the internet3.voicestream and it worked so i thought rec all email BUT only out going to optonline email addresses .So as you suggested the wap.voicestream.com It works with all rec and send to all email addresses..thanks again

Now thats what I call good news and they say don't sweat the small stuff!

The myemail.t-mobile.com works great for me with the wap setting.
Does anybody know a similar mail setting for ATT? I need to set it up on a couple ATT phones too. Thanks - Jim

Yes, for AT&T you would use:
pdasmtp.attwireless.net

Cool - thanks!

Anybody know Cingular's?
I am having the same problem with only able to receive the email, can't send. I even tried my third party smtp server with authentication and it won't allow the send unless I am using my wifi from home where Optimum Online is the ISP.

E-Mail Problem

Hi, I'm new to this site and definitely not a "techie", was wondering if anyone can help?
Recently purchased a QTek 9100 (aka imate jam, wizard?) and set up a new messaging profile for use with lineone (Tiscali) in the UK. I'm receiving e-mail no problem, but whoever I try to send to Ithe message is sent then returned to the draft folder and in my inbox I get the message
"System Administrator, Your message 'xxx' was not sent and has been moved to the Drafts folder. The following recipients are invalid: [email protected]"
Any ideas?
Solution??
I had the same problem. My solution was to open an email account with vodafone (its free) and created a rule to forward my mail to the new vodafone email address. I can recieve and send mail via the vodafone account with no problem. I think that many isp's don't allow you to log on with mobile devices.
I have a signature set up saying the mail was sent "ia my Kjam but please reply to my work email address", so i have a copy on my desktop and on the mobile device.
Only drawback is that you must logon to the vodafone account and delete you old meassages once in a while.
Hope this helps
Isn't it just the outgoing smtp server that is wrong?
Isn't it just the outgoing smtp server that is wrong?
Yes, I sure your right about this. I found that I get really fast, 100% logon with Vodafone email solution. I have worked in Spain, Italy, USA since I got my 9100, the email is always there every 15 mins. I need to be in touch, this works for me.
Thanks for the responses,
Yes I've set up a completely new account with Vodafone, this allows me to send mail and then I connect to lineone to receive. I don't particularly want to have my mail re-directed through Vodafone so this seems to be a good compromise.
Hi guys, looks like your smtp address is wrong, like q-big suspected. You can use the pop server of your email account to get mails from any mail server, but when you want to send mail over themail servers of your mobile provider, be sure to set the smtp server to the one Vodafone (in your case) uses. example: I have various email accounts on my Wizard. My incoming mail server (POP server) is different for each of my email accounts, since they are with various different email services. My smtp server is the same for all of them, namely T-Mobile smtp, since all my email will be sent out using T-mobile gprs.
Try setting the smtp server to the one your provider uses and you should be ok.
have you made sure you have authentication tcked for your outgoing mail? go into your account settings for the mail account you want to use. press next untill you get to the screen where you put the incoming and outgoing mail servers and click options, next and tick "outgoing mail requires authentication"
as your not connected to the internet using your isp (tiscali in your case) you have to authenticate to send mail too to stop people spamming from there servers
Yep, you just need to use the vodafone's smtp server and that should solve your troubles.
HTH
Jim
I had this problem. I spoke to my ISP who supply the e-mail addy in question.
They said that they blocked e-mails coming from any other connection than their own - i.e. unless you send the e-mail from your home computer (with the ISP account) it will be blocked and get that "invalid recipient" message.
There's a post out there somewhere that gives other "outgoing mail server" settings which seem to work, but that's on O2, not Vodafone.
-b
I think on voda the smtp server is send.vodafone.net
i know it sounds odd, but it worked fine when i was on voda in the UK a while ago.
I had a same invalid error but it was just the smtp port AND smtp authentication. PUt both of those together and worked!

Can Receive but not Send EMAIL

I did setup outlook email in tytn. I can recieve emails fine. Why its impossible to send? I have tried in every possible way. Error appears, your incoming mail server not correct, check and try again. Incoming and outgoing server both are correct. What can be reason? Tytn is cool but i hate it when it cant just send an email. Extremely irritating.
Help will be appreciated.

Sorry but you do not give enough info to work with. You say incoming mail server is correct but it helps us to know what you have it set to and who provider is. For example I notice that lots of internet sites have an incorrect port settings for O2 UK MMS. So when you say your setting is correct; there might be someone here who says it will work if you change it to ?????. Did you set this up manually or was it done by the wizard?
Cheers
Mike
PS. Edited your thread title - you must give brief description of problem/issue. "EMAIL" does not encourage people to help!
You might not be allowed to send email because you are not actually on your email provider's network. I was not able to send Charter.net email via my Cingular device, until I changed the outgoing server to match Cingular's outgoing SMTP server.
I hope this gives you another direction in which to investigate a solution.
my location is norway. i am using network solutions as my email provider. in coming mail server is mail.waqar.com and out going mail server is smtp.networksolutions.com everything seems fine. then why its not working?

Hi
I found the following comment on the following website:
Note: Some ISPs will not allow you to use Network Solutions’ outbound mail servers. If that is the case, type in the name of your ISPs outgoing e-mail server (ex. smtp.myisp.com). You may also try and configure Network Solutions’ Outbound Mail server to connect to Port 2525 instead of the default Port 25.
http://www.emailuserguide.com/07-howto-setup-email-software.htm
Might relate to your problem??
Mike
i had the same problem. all i had to do (after strugling for a week) was check the box next to "outgoing mail requires... (missing text)" in outlook. Hope this helps!
it was smtp.waqar.com instead smtp.networksolutions.com
thanks guys

mopera u email problem

Does anyone know how to setup other email accounts on HTC-z docomo using Mopera? I understand that they block port 25 for sending. So how do you get around that. I can receive but cant send on any account other than the mopera account. I tried to use mopera outgoing mail server setting in the other account but it still does'nt work. Any ideas?? I finially got it switched over to english and would like to send email as well as receive.

can't send emails

hey guys, yet once again I'm ditching tech service folks(useless) at tmobile and seeking help here... I have a $10 email plan for my wing and lately I've been unable to send emails from the phone. I can receive them without any problem. error message reads, "The messages could not be sent. check that you have network coverage and that your account info is correct." what I don't get is it was working perfectly fine until couple of days ago, and I didn't change anything. tech folks at tmobile said they'd reroute my connection or some sort but to no avail.
can anyone here help? maybe someone else had a similar problem. I'm running OpenTouch3 btw. Thanks again.

well, basically when you put it the settings, it should automatically find the settings online....
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com:995 Use SSL: Yes Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com:465 or smtp.gmail.com:587 Use Authentication: Yes Use SSL: Yes Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') Email Address: your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Password: your Gmail password

Hi, I got the same problem and changed all possible options, but without result.
Eventually foudn this posting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-300029.html
it says that you should change the port to 587, but do this when creating the account because WM6 wont see any changes afterwards. Thisa solved the problem for me!
thanks microsoft for this user friendly programming!

EMAIL setup for NTLWORLD (Virgin) on O2 please?

Hi there,
I had the EMAIL working ok until Virgin updated their EMAIL setup a couple of months back, but now I seem to be having trouble whatever I try (keeps int deleting EMAIL's + having problems sending/receiving sometimes).
Thanks, Mark.
Check your settings:
Your Name
Your name as you would like it to appear to others when you send them an e-mail. We recommend entering your real name, although any name can be used.
E-mail address
Your Virgin Media e-mail address. Remember that the part after the @ symbol should correspond to your type of account, e.g., [email protected].
Account Type
POP3
Incoming mail server
pop3.virginmedia.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
smtp.virginmedia.com
User Name
Use entire e-mail address.
e.g., [email protected]
Password
Enter the password for your e-mail account. If you don't know the password for your account you can reset it using the forgotten password tool in My Virgin Media.
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
Unticked/No
Thanks for that,
Is that an updated version (since they changed things a couple of months back) or working setups off your phone?
Also I had an O2 address (mail.o2.co.uk) on the outgoing server, as I had trouble sending in the 1st place and this cures things?
Also should the setup be the same for @virginmedia.co.uk addresses as @ntlworld.co.uk ones?
Cheers.

I know - I've done that in the past and with the settings they give it would only let you receive EMAIL's and not send them.
I'm not sure if the settings on there are just for mobiles on the Virgin network?
I wanted to be able to send/receive EMAIL's with O2.
I would have looked on the Virgin site myself if I had not tried them in the past and not bothered people on here.
That's the reason that I had to use the mail.o2.co.uk address for the outgoing server before (as it would not send EMAIL's from the settings they supplied on Virgin's site).
Nope - just tried the settings supplied for the NTLWorld EMAIL address on the Virgin site and they still don't work Dude (saying to check my account information when sending/receiving).

If i remember correctly to send now you have to use ssl encryption on the smtp connection and specify the same log in details as for the incoming pop connection (the smtp servers are no longer open). The reason for this is that when it was ntl/blueyonder the smtp servers would only respond to certain ip address' so any further security was not needed.
Nope - just tried the settings supplied for the NTLWorld EMAIL address on the Virgin site and they still don't work Dude (saying to check my account information).

i just read the latest post. The ip restriction may still be enabled so you may be screwed.
Ok - thanks for that.

if you are using a data connection then set it to mail.o2.co.uk and make sure the connction is using o2 mobile
if you are using wifi at home thru the VM connection then you can use smtp.ntlworld.com
I had the same problem when Virgin introduced there "improved" email and this is how I solved it....
!!!!!! NOTE: REQUIRES A GOOGLE (gmail) ACCOUNT FOR THIS TO WORK !!!!!!!!!!
Create your account along the lines of -
Email Address - [email protected]
Name - Fred Bloggs
Account Display Name - Ntlworld
Incoming mail server - [email protected]
Account type - IMAP4
User Name - [email protected]

Sorry, but just checking - you have to setup a GMail account for this to work - I was wondering when you send somebody a message if it shows as from the NTL World EMAIL address or the GMail one?
Cheers, Mark.
Hi there,
Thanks for all the replies - I think I may have sussed it now with a combination of peoples replies and also using O2's server for the outgoing mail.
I can now send/receive + also delete EMAIL's off the server so they don't come through on my PC once I have deleted and done a send/receive on the phone.
Cheers, Mark.
I was also wondering about the IMAP4 setting on the mobile - does this mean that everything on the server is also stored on the phone as well, so you have old EMAIL's on your phone as well?
Does this slow the HD2 down, as it would be handy to have some of the older EMAIL's in folders on the phone.
It sends it from the gmail address.... All I have got in my folders is the stuff in my inbox... BTW what settings did you end up using for both the outgoing and sending?
Regards,
Alan
Hi there,
I got these settings E-Mailed from Virgin in the end (like the ones posted by somebody else earlier, but with info on the SSL + ports etc (not that I think you can setup the ports on the HD2).
It seems to work all ok now with even being able to delete messages off the server as well.
Cheers, Mark.
Thanks for getting in touch with the Virgin Media Support team.
The details for your email account settings are below.
Incoming Mail Server - pop3.virginmedia.com
Outgoing Mail Server- smtp.virginmedia.com
Username - Full email address including @ntlworld.com
Password - Your email password
Outgoing server requires authentication - Yes
Incoming Server Port - 995
SSL Required - Yes
Outgoing Server Port - 465
SSL Required - Yes
If you are going to be receiving emails to more than one device you will
need to use 'Recent' mode in order to facilitate this. To do this simply
add 'recent:' to the start of the username in your account settings on
your email client so if your username was '[email protected]' it
would become 'recent:[email protected]'.
