I need to use xda gsm band, but i dont want to change my rom, I fell good enough with my T-mob rom (900-1900), but I want to use in 1800, so i need the gsm band, can anyone help me? thanks

If your xda is indeed capable of operating on 1800 you will be able to switch using bootloader method, hold power button while inserting stylus in hole on base, (bottomleft with screen facing you), when screen appears, press the button beneath the antenna. Having said that I was under the impression that the xda is not a true tri-band therefore if your phone hardware doesnt support 1800 it just wont work even if the option exists in rom. I am sure somebody will correct this if it is wrong.

I have managed to unlock my sx 56 from at&t using xda's software. Great. Trouble is it only enabled me to use O2 in the UK, i then went to yorch.net and downloaded more software which enabled vodafone and O2. Better. But I was wondering how I could unlock it so all networks worked. Can anyone give me a hand?

What you'll find is that there were two versions of the XDA (AKA...). One which was sold in Europe and ran on 900 and 1800Mhz frequencies, and one which ran on 900 and 1900Mhz frequencies, and was sold in the US (SX56, MDA, etc).
You may or may not know that Orange UK runs solely on 1800Mhz (as does T-Mobile), and as such you'll find your version to be incompatible with these networks... Sorry.
Although this device is from the states, I have found the option of using it oat 900 gsm or 900 / 1800 gsm or solely 1800 gsm. Does this mean that I may be able to use orange ?

Although it might give you this option, I believe that the radio hardware inside it is designed only for 900/1900mhz. I guess you could try and put an Orange SIM in, in an area where you know there to be coverage, and see if it works. It is unlikely to work on Orange or T-Mobile.
Let us know either way, cheers
I have tried my sim in an area I know there to be coverage. It just comes up as no signal. Since going through the site I'm thinking of getting a serial cable and using manipulator although its a little ambiguous about whether this will work. One company reckons they can do it but if what you say is correct then they'll be waisting their time and my money.
It might be easier to swap providers!
Beini, if your phone is 900/1900 it will not work on Orange which is 1800.
O2 XDA RUNNING ON ORANGE NETWORK FINE NO CONNECT TO INTERNET
Thanks guys for showing me how unlock my 02 XDA so I can phone out. But I just cant get it to connect to the internet - can anyone help me?
I dont have the option for 1800 (Baud Rate)
i suppose the getting access to the internet is going to be impossible...??
How do I configure it to atleast work for WAP?
I just bought me a QTEK 1010 with ROM v3.08.10ENG and Radio version 6.02.
But my Operator only operates at 1800 Mhz, and i think this phone can only handle 900/1900 (its has model no. PW10B1). Is there any way how i can change this ? or is that impossible?
thx
It wont work, or if it did it would be extremely flaky if it managed to connect bearing in mind the 100mhz difference in frequency.
Hmmz, while i was googling for WALLABY Bootloader, i came on the main site of xda-developers where the bootloader was describer. Then i went into the UTILITIES screen of my bootloader, and changed my settings to GSM 900/1800. And i rebooted my phone.
It looks like it's now running on my 1800 Mhz provider, cause i can make phone calls!
Does this mean that it IS a triband phone?
Not really, where people have been able to get 1900 on 900/1800 phones it has been very flaky at best, let us know how you get on using 1800. By the way, which operator are you using.
Change 900/1900 to 900/1800Mhz ....
I bought a SX56 few days ago in eBay(US) .... I decided to buy because the guy was sure that his phone was TriBand... but when I started to use here in Brazil, I realized that's impossible to find a carrier ...because the GSM here is 900/1800Mhz.... instead 900/1900 from US GSM Mobile.
How can I change the band ???
I presume the SX56 is 900/1900 because I read a AT&T logo ...
But I need to change to 900/1800Mhz...
Could you help me ???
Thanks,

Hi guys,
thought of saying a couple of important notes:
1. when checking the type of your device, refer ONLY to the sticker on the rear side. do NOT depend on what's written in the device info!
2. the xda 1 is a "dual" band device either 900/1800 (A type) or 900/1900 (B type). both ROM and GSM menu will have the 3 options but this doesn't mean it will work. if you want a tri band device get the xda II
Hello
 XDA 1st working good in Russia . The phone and GPRS .

You can try what this other person did: change the band in the bootloader.
Hold the power button while performing a soft reset (large hole, bottom left). After you see the bootloader screen, press the calendar button (top right above display). The options 900/1800, 900 and 1900 are all in the menu. Move with rocker keys (below screen), and press the middle of the keys to select. The soft reset again (without holding power).
1) You may need to remove the SIM and put it back in before the phone 'understands' the change.
2) Your radio part is now operated 100 MHz or ~5% out of tune. And it wasn't a very good GSM radio to begin with. Pray the 1800 provider you're with is high in the band.

After you do all this, does the original Radio ROM 4.xx.xx or whatever compatible as before? People used T-mobile 6.xx.xx in US for 900/1900 Radio but 4.xx.xx in Europe for 900/1800 Radio.
I knew in the wallaby bootloader they have that utilities but you may need to change the radio as well, is it? I guess....
After testing the mobile on 900/1800 for a while, i would not advise it to anyone of doing it, cause my connection is really sucky sometimes.
If there is anyone in europe who wants to have an XDA 900/1900 for testing purposes and exchange it with an 900/1800. Let me know
hello:
i know that this topic has been addressed, but it's not clear what the answer is:
i have a friend that bought the "b" model xda (900/1900) in the united states, and took it to brasil. he ran XDAunlock, and the sim is unlocked.
with bootloader, he told the phone to operate at 900/1800. the program
"bandswitcher" or something that's included in the xda developer's rom
indicates that the phone is at 900/1800.
but it gets no signal using sim cards in sao paolo, brasil.
many posters have indicated that they do get some connectivity,
not quite what a native 900/1800 would get, but much better than nothing.
other posters have said that it is not possible to get any signal, since there is a hardware difference that can't be compensated for with software.
who is right? is there anyone from brazil that has gotten a 900/1900 phone to work that could tell me how they did it, what city they're in, and what provider they use?
if it's true there is a hardware difference, is there a user-friendly way to swap out some internal part to make the bandwidth change?
any firm answers appreciated; if you are only guessing (like assuming that since wallaby bootloader mentions switching bandwidth, it's therefore possible), then please say so. i'd really like to know for sure what the story is.
thanks guys!
The 900/1900 gsm phone was never intended to work at 1800, some people manage to get signal but there are many factors involved such as proximity to mast, the fact is you are trying to use it off tune, try listening to a radio station 100mhz away from the advertised frequency and see how it sounds, if you were right next to the transmitter you would probably hear it because it would break through on to adjacent bands, but go further away and the discrepancy would become more obvious. If you need to work on 1800 get another phone or sell it and get the correct model.
hi,
let ur friend ask the operator there if they have 900 MHz signal. if yes, then all he has to do is to select this band on both GSM menu at the bootloader and in the phone settings.
good luck
Hey folks,
Is there a utility/hack that allows you to change the GSM band from 900/1800 to just search the 1900 band? Since upping to 1.72 my radio always locks onto the 900 band and stays there for ages before locking onto my operator (on the 1900 band). I have to have at least 80% signal level. I know that 900 generally is a stronger signal (the other operator is always at least 10-20% over my operator), so thats why [note: I cannot roam with the other operator].. I know the new iPaq seems to have a band select, and my Treo 600 does too....
HTC do you have a util?
Any help greatly appreciated.

i really doubt that HTC hang around this site you i think that
any questions you want to aim at HTC have to be mailed to them
Try this: go to phone, tools, options, network, network selection and put it in Manual, select your network and OK.
Tell us if it works well thus.
If it dont work, you can install old radio version.
Thanks folks for the replies.. That's actually how I have it set now (manual on my operator), but for some reason when you turn the radio on it locks on to the 900 band and just sits there.. If I walk around until a strong enough signal is obtained from my operator it'll lock on; but as you can imagine this is really annoying.
Thanks again for your pointers. If I find anything out I'll let you know, as I've also shot an e-mail to Carrier Devices; and will shoot something directly at HTC.
I may also drop down to Radio 1.10; but I hate having to re-install all my software again..
You can make backup, install old radio version and make restore.
Dunno if it makes any use, but an HK extend rom cab file will enable the band selection on yr phone device (what it did just put some registry setting on HKLM/Software/OEM/PhonePH.
I am thinking if we could get 850mzh working if we know the correct ItemValue for it

I am living in North America which I can only test 1900
I found both 7 and 4 works for me (fail if using 1,2 or 3)
People in other GSM region (especially ppl in LA where 850 is available could try the missing 5 & 6 value) can try if other GSM region works for U.
7 = automatic
1 = 900mzh
2 = 1800mzh
3 = 900 / 1800mzh
4 = 1900mzh
5 and 6 seem to act like auto to me. I have both 850 and 1900 coverages and I am not seeing any differences with those 2 settings. They both act like the auto or 1900.
HI Everybody!!!
I have created one more setting under the value 5, as well I have changed showItem value from 5 to 6, but still the BAND page rejected to show all GSM bands I have. As a result I have deleted 900/1800 and putted 850 with value 5. Have no idea if it works or no, cos I am living in Europe, but now my BAND page looks very cool
WELCOME NEW i-mate JAM Pro 850/900/1800/1900 !!!
PS It will be nice if some one could really check the values 5,6,8,9
Thanx to jackleung for this post,
Good luck…
For some reason I can only see the 900 and 1900 band in my band select page. I have previously applied the .cab file and now I manually editted the registry again, but the band select page still only shows 2 bands, 900 and 1900. Does anyone have a solution?

How can one actually tell what band the JAM is currently communicating on? I was sure it's not a firmware or software setting and more likely in the hardware of the JAM, so it's kinda like relabeling your gear shift numbers or adding a number to it in your car - I don't think it's going to add any more functionality to your device.
Surely if the unit was a true quad-band in hardware, they would have supported and advertised that.

Just because many of us not living in 850mzh area and that's why we need someone who does to try it. But it looks the orginal value from the cab file really does what it declared.
Someone should give this a try. There's a possible way to try it. If you've got a PM10A (without the 850 support), follow the guidlines in this thread, select 850 as your band, reboot and use the program mentioned before to see what cell your operating on.
Then just look up the cell and see wether or not it's an 850. It would be awesome if it were.

You're absolutely correct. All this does is enable a page that shows the 850 band. It has been hidden otherwise to stop any confusion by the end user. IT TAKES A HARDWARE CHANGE. The radio must be tuned to receive the 850 band. No amount of software tweaking is going to change that....sorry.

It has been tried numerous times on numerous devices. Plus I have read reports from people who work for carriers who confirm this. Not to mention hearing from numerous people over the years who work in the industry who have a much better understanding of the situation.

After to have modified the GSM Band Selection I don't have the confirmation of my choice. Wich is the mean of checking that?
