How to migrate data from XDA to XDA II? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi folks,
as the new xdaII now offers a lot of the features all of us have been missing so far, I also think about shifting from I to II. However, besides the discussion of all the new features, I would like to know how easy/painful it is to migrate the data stored for contacts, calendar and tasks from xdaI to xdaII. One way for the contacts would be to use the infrared interface. However, I am not shure if all the fields from pocket outlook will be transferred then. For the calendar entries, I really have no idea how to transfer them, as it seems impossible to migrate the whole calendar. Would the backup tool be an option, as it keeps the data to be migrated, although the operating system is a higher release on the xdaII?
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

use activesync
Just use your desktop/activesync to sync email, calendar, contacts, tasks etc. on your xda 1.
Then when you have your xda 2 you can just resync and they will all sync on to the new device.

need advice on PIM

Hi everyone
I'm looking for a replacement for outlook on my desktop which woulld allow me to sync my emails, contacts, events etc with my xda 2.
many thanks
ps: I must be able to sync my emails (located on the desktop) with my xda otherwise I might as well keep on using Lotus organizer.
Many thanks
brimful
if you want to use activesync then i think it's outlook only but there are others

What I need is an app that I can install on my desktop that can replace ms outlook 2000. I want the same functionality as outlook but don't want to use that particular ms product. I'm currently sync'ing my pda with lotus organizer which is a really good prog but unfortunately hasn't got an email client built in. What I need to be able to do is sync everything that I can currently sync with on lotus organizer but with the added functionality of sync'ing my emails also.

Best way to migrate data from WM6.5 to Froyo

Hi all.
With the hopeful impending arrival of my DHD, I am keen to know the best way to migrate my contacts, calendar etc to Froyo.
I know I can sync my activesync to sync with Google, but is that the best way?
I want to maintain as much as I can if possible....
oggsync does fairly good to sync contacts and calendar, but some features missing unless you use the paid version.
another alternative (free as long as you have Outlook in your PC):
activesync to desktop outlook -> export to csv from desktop outlook -> use Import feature in the gmail website -> let the data sync from google account to handset.
grateful if somebody could give an advice re tasks. the Task feature of gmail doesn't support recurrent task, and hence absolutely not my choice. Astrid looks good enough on Android, but seems i must manually re-enter all outstanding tasks.
The best way is
On WM6.x use Exchange Server from Google using the google account that you are going to use on Android, and then in Android use that google email account and everything will transfer to android. Simple as that...
thanks for your advice.
you mean this Google Sync service?

EDIT: trying it now. it's handy. thanks!
What I did, was export all my contacts and appointments, and then imported them into my Gmail account. Then synced when I was within Android on my HD2.
Works very well.
cool thread this
i have my contacts backed up on WMDC, but my phone is now dead is there any way to get them from WMDC or microsoft outlook to the DHD
I hope this might help

Froyo and Outlook Tasks and Notes

So what's up with Outlook syncing in Android 2.2? Why is there no simple notes application on this new version of the OS? Why can't it sync with all Outlook features as it did in version 1.6?
It looks as though I will be forced to use Google docs and use something to sync that with Outlook. I use Outlook notes and tasks for work and really need them back on my phone.
I just needed to type and store a quick note on my phone and discoverd that there was no native application for that. Will there be a solution for this in Gingerbread??
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
no native.
i use VCOrganizer (tasks, calendars, notes contacts and categories)
(use only 1 way contact sync or u find doubled contacts on the phone)
it works also with outlook 2010 64bits
i treid many but this is the only one i found that sync also outlook notes
not free

...feel your pain. This has been my biggest challenge too coming from years of (relatively) painless Outlook to phone syncing with WinMo phones...but I am loving this more and more every day!
Basically I ended up "moving to the cloud"...using CompanionSync (worth the $$) to auto sync O2k10 to google.com (includes tasks) and EverNote to sync notes. DropBox for documents and folders. Tasks appear in the google calendar on the due date.

This problem (and a full list of potential synchronisation solutions) is well documented over at http://www.syncdroid.net/
Does anyone know is there have been any further developments towards getting all of outlooks features to sync with android??

I use enhanced email. Not sure if it supports tasks and notes, but the developer is very active on his forum for enhancements.

[Q] Using Android phone with desktop Microsoft Outlook

This question has been raised many times, but I couldn't find a single definite answer. To sync with Outlook there is software like Touchdown (albeit only for MS Exchange) and cloud services like Soocial and Funambol. Now, how do you sync ALL fields in Contacts, for example, if they are not 100% identical with Google? The later lets you name your phone numbers, for example which is impossible in Outlook. I am using Outlook both for business and personal, and it would be very difficult to move away from it, especially as my company uses it for business. However, I find WM 6.5, or Windows Phone 7, or Blackberry not particularly suited for my personal needs. So I bought Optimus 2X, but I have not started using it, because I don't know how to painlessly migrate to it from HTC Touch Diamond 2 with WM 6.5, which is seamlessly integrated with Outlook. I have about 1600 well-organized contacts, many tasks, recurring calendar items, almost all of them with applied custom-made Outlook categories. Filtering and sorting by categories really simplifies things. I am daunted by the task of re-categorizing all of my outlook items by hand. But I need to start using Android somehow AND desktop and laptop versions of MS Outlook with the categories I have set up. What is the least painful way to do it? I can't believe there's only me faced with this problem. Thanks for your help!
PS. Oops! Wrong forum. Re-posting in Android forum. Sorry!

Synch Android w/ Multiple PCs

Tried to search on this but the terms are so generic, I didn't have much luck.
Is there a way to set up two partnerships with my Android phone, so that I can have contacts from work on my phone and home machine, but keep my personal contacts synchronized from my home Outlook private and out of my machine at work?
In other words, I want to synchronize some, but not all, groups, based on the desktop.
Thanks in advance.
Are you running Outlook at work too, keeping your contacts in separate folders (one being personal and the other work related on your home computer), if so do you have your contacts on your phone setup identifying the differences as well? How can your phone move files, can they be fed directly ibro Outlook or are they transferred as a csv file? Worse case you use one Gmail and Live accounts to sync and the Live accounts to sync with your two Windows computers. I have gotten creative when it comes to getting the information I need to me from my computer at another location regardless of what operating system it is. Gmail, Live and Cox accounts are great storage accounts and servers.
If you still need help and haven't found a solution I could help you out, it would just be easier if I knew the details of your current syncing program (if any), its capabilities (if it interfaces directly with Outlook or creates csv files) and any thing else you use to transfer your files.

Sorry, should have included the information you ask about.
Running Outlook 2007 on both desktops. It was my plan to use HTC Sync. I do have my work contacts categorized into their own group, so if there's a way to synchronize only specific groups by desktop, that would be ideal.
Bump. Still looking for a solution.
Ping. Nobody has feedback on this?
