I'm aware that there have been ROM upgrades to the 3800 series
that allowed it's SD slot to be used as an SDIO. Is it possible
to modify the ROM of the T-Mobile US Pocket PC Phone
to allow this?
I'd love to use the Phone for 802.11 and one of the new
SDIO cards would make this a breeze if the hardware
supported it.
No! XDA (hardware) does not support SD-IO!
It is interesting to me that Compaq has found a way via a ROM upgrade to make an SD slot into an SDIO.
We have been told for so long, that the HTC PocketPC Phone will not support SDIO... But, if Compaq can turn an SD slot into an SDIO slot, then they either PLANNED to do that when they designed the hardware (So that it is DIFFERENT than the one in the XDA) ...
OR...
With the 'right' ROM update, it would work the same way on the pocketPC. Wouldn't that be a hoot!
If anyone finds out any more info, PLEASE post here!.
PS, lowga, I am in the Magic City as well.

Actually, COMPAQ (now is HP) pocket PC (IPAQ) is made my HTC
You see the iPaq was built with the right hardware to eventually support SDIO and it was simply a timing issue where Compaq released the product before SDIO support could be built. They did not make water into wine actually.
In the case of XDA we seem to have hardware design making SDIO a definite no go. Good way to ensure revenue continuity for XDA... Too bad.

So, then, situation 1 is the more correct one... Thats too bad for us XDA owners.

Does SanDisk 256+ Wi-fi work with XDA I ?
thanks in advacne
I believe you'd need a SIDO slot in your XDA to be able to run this card, hence only the XDAII
But i could be wrong?
yeah it does require SDIO
You mean it wont work with XDA I ? or there is a work around solution for it ?
SDIO as i know comes built in on the main board
Thanks in advance
WiFi and other SDIO cards with onboard RAM are supported only by WM 2003 SE. So you cannot use it in XDA. This info is taken somewhere from Microsoft WM 2003 SE specification.

thanks

Unfortunately, the Sandisk offering is the ONLY ONE IN EXISTANCE.
It's also EOL'd - you can't buy it anywhere anymore other than Ebay.
Nobody seems to care about SDIO these days, huh. -.-

Well I looked further into the issue, and apparently SanDisk discontinued it because it suffered from too many various errors . Guess it was having teething problems, being the first of its kind. Lets hope someone fills this void, because I want one!
Sandisk wifi is extremly slow.............realllllly slooooooow.
So forget it. You can connect usb flash drive via usb and use sd for wifi if really need. Or flash your jam with BigStorage and use internal 27 mb.
Or even 2.5'' harddisk.
Thanx

It's not. Magician unfortunately lacks USB host capabilities - in short, it lacks the drivers required to control an external device, such as a hard drive or keyboard...
Which sucks. Bluetooth GPS and Infrared Keyboards really do suck up battery life.
At Ebay there are a lot of SD Wifi Cards available. Is any of them good ? I want to use it with my Qtek S100.
i have a spectek sd wifi card which works well in my qtek s110.
I've had the SanDisk 256Mb WiFi card for way over a year now and have not had any problems. The only problems I had were the installation but after searching for updated drivers which were like Gold dust as this card is no longer manufactured I located some and it's been great since. I've set the WiFi connection on the Magician to have the "best battery life" and the speed doesn't seem to be a factor.
Maybe I've been lucky!
Does anybody know of a WORKING internal GPS Module for the Prophet ? I'm talking about SDIO at most, but preferably some kind of internal extension board. I'm guessing everybody has had enough with carying around a bulky bluetooth gps receiver.
ya! that would be very nice...
No such thing, and not going to happen.
I am not quite sure about SDIO (though I never hear of one) but there is no such thing as "internal extension cards" for Prophet or any other WM device.
Their mother boards come as a closed unit and there are no connectors / slots for any hardware other then what is in the specs.
This is not a PC and the OEM never attended for people to take these things apart.
sdio
the wifi nic for the prophet is actually a SDIO extension board. not as in a physical board per say but as in the way it interfaces with the pda mb. the sd slot for the prophet i know that it is sdio compatible, what i don't know is if it supports the standard necessary for this one, for instance: http://www.globalsat.com.tw/eng/product_detail_00000053.htm
Actually the problem with that model is not the standard - they stated SDIO so no reason it wouldn't work, except they don't claim to support WM 5.
GPS basically throws ASCII strings to a serial port, but a card using SDIO would probably need a driver to be properly recognized by the OS and WM 2003 driver is more than likely not to work for WM 5.
On a side note: it is considerate of them to provide memory to replace the storage card who's place they are taking. (though this will create a problem with nav apps that lock on SD serial).
Will it support SDHC cards now?
no, sorry.
tried it already, it failed
BA hardware device isn't compatible with SDHC
do we know this for absolute fact? reason I ask is that the hermes didn't recognize hc cards until wm6 and its drivers supported them.. thought this wm6 might have brought along support for the BA as well
tried NOT WORKING

From what I understand from the Universal forum, the ability to use SDHC cards is software related, not hardware. Thats why in the latest version of WM6 for the Universal, there is full support for SDHC cards. Someone just has to modify the driver to support them.
SDHC
has anyone with a SDHC tried this driver:

.....just happen to come across it, so try at your own risk!

that would be cool.. I will love to have a 50Euros 8Gb SDHC card in my BA

I installed this cab on on my 2nd BA (this is my test platform), and it doesn't seem to work. It replaces the SD card driver, so that it won't even recognize normal SD cards, or SDIO cards. I think that the SD hardware that this drivers was written for must be different. I'll keep playing with it, but I suspect that this is not the answer.
-C
This driver is for Eten X500 it will not work on BA
So all along i thought it was a hardware problem, i should put a hold on buying one of those 4gb sd and wait for this.
I have a Topram 8GB SDHC, when ever you guys find a driver for the BA just let me know, i'll test it and report back here.
For SDHC to work on BA, the SDHC driver must be extracted from the same processor device. That is what I see on the ETEN SDHC driver that it was applied from another Samsung processor device.
- TKN
Hardware-wise closest device should be Universal which does have working SDHC now. But if the PXA27x is too much different from BA's PXA263 then it will be impossible.
Does This Work With Ba?
I Found This Cab. Does It Work?
where did u find this?
did you find it with any relations to universal or htc devices?
tested it and it didn't work!
no its from asus pda
Do you think maybe Axim50v driver will work? or 'WM 6 Professional Images' from MS? (was just wondering...)
Something to keep in mind about the larger sized cards...
In my experience, the larger the card, the slower the access.
When the angel was designed, I really doubt that anyone knew that cards of the sizes available now would be available, not to mention that the SD driver in our phone is pretty old.
When I first got my 4 gig card, I noted that accessing data from the card was much slower than the system memory. That speed drop all but went away after I partitioned the card into two smaller 'cards'.
That being said, SDHC is the new standard, and having the ability to read and write to these cards, even if it's not any faster, would be a good thing.
Found this cab on Axim forum.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SMFT1Y6J
I can test it, i don't have a SDHC card.
I have searched on here and read the various threads on SDHC cards and I am still none the wiser
In the Wizard Accessories forum there is a 5-page thread about users experiences with what does and doesn't work - the problem is there is contradicting information. I thought I was getting somewhere with later units supporting SDHC and earlier ones not (serial numbers), however half way through the thread someone with an older Wizard says they have it working.....
Are there any difinitive answers to whether 4GB SDHC cards work in the Wizard, and if so does it need to be a G4, does it need to be manufactured after a certain date etc?
I have two Wizards (s/n: SZ602EE0xxxx and HT544EExxxx), both currently with 1GB SD cards (Danelec I think?). I am reluctant to buy any 4GB cards unless I know they are going to work.
Thanks
Andy
AFAIK some WM6 ROM with build .1921 includes drivers that should support SDHC cards but since I don't have a SDHC card on hand cannot test ...

ok to clarify this, (im going to get flame at least once for this) SDHC cards will only work with devices that have the drivers for SDHC cards. This does not have to do with the hardware but if we cant get the drivers to talk to the hardware there is no support. we have the right hardware but no drivers and if it was a hardware problem then SDHC cards would not be the same as a SD card.
And can someone test that rom (not hopping it works but it might)
[removed by me]
I've got a 4gb SDHC card sitting here, and the latest TNT release (1921 base). Obviously, it does not currently work. Let me know what I need to do to try!

The first page of theloon 7.2 ROM kitchen shows it working. I run this ROM, but I dont have a SDHC yet. I'll post there to see if anyone has had success.
Resurect this thread....
I am desperately running out of SD card space and would like to now 'upgrade' to a 4GB (or bigger?) SDHC card. I would like some testemonials of users who have had sucess with SDHC cards and what Wizard version and ROM you are running.
As I said I am reluctant to just buy a SDHC card and see if it works as it will be a waste of money if it doesn't.
Andy
count me in
just bought a 2gb sd card for 25€ over here but i need more space ^^
transcend sells the fastest sd mini cards as far as i tested them..
from hardware point of view the wizard device can handle this SDHC cards
as they use the same slot and hardware a usb cardreader has..
its just a matter of drivers or maybe just a registrysetting..
my guess its a combination of a new driver with enhancements for SDHC
and some registrysettings...
knowing windows they probably allready implented it in OS at least in WM6
and it be just a question of finding the right driver with the right settings..
my 4gig sdhc is coming in early next week, then I can test..
keep us informed on how it works please .. if it works that is ^^
Read this! It is only a matter of drivers and reg settings. Someone has created a cab with appropriate drivers and reg entries for testing somewhere on the xda forum.

So you can confirm this works? That's all I want. There are LOTS of varying reports on SDHC cards working & not working. I don't want to buy one and then realise it doesn't work. It's all right posting drivers and links to MS updates but that doesn't confirm anything. I want hard evidence.....

I tried it and it doesn't work.
• Support for Video over IP telephony calls
• Support for the Pocket Outlook Object Model (POOM) and ActiveSync in the VoIP Home Screen and VoIP Contacts applications
• Secure Digital (SD) bus driver that supports SDHC specification 2.00 functionality, such as Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) cards
Support for Extended File Allocation Table (ExFAT) and FAT32 on the x86 BIOS Loader, which provides access beyond 2 gigabytes (GB) of hard disk space.
this is probably the issue with ur 4gb card..
the bios of the wizard wont be able to acces beyond 2gb
but...
now that you have this 4gb card can you do us all a favor ?
here is the thing:
if u have a cardreader that reads the card on the pc just put it in the pc
otherwise put it in the wizard and start wm5torage and connect it as a
non-removable class and write enabled and start the thing and connect it to pc..
when connected goto computer and right click My Computer and choose manage.. in that window goto Disk Managment ..
in there you see this drive which is on the sd card, its shown as a drive
rightclick on the part next to it where it shows the volume on the drive
(it says Healty when correct and the driveletter it got assigned)
choose delete partition
now u have a empty flashdisk
format it in fat16 but.. :-> dont give it a name and set it to 2gb and do not assign a driveletter
now there is a space left of <1gb
format this too fat16 no name, no drive letter, no other stuff but plain format
now if all is correct and these two drives are there you can disconnect it.
unplug the cardreader (with the remove hardwarebutton in systray)
or if u got it in your wizard , shut down pc and take wizard out after it shut down
then release the wm5torage driver and close it and remove card and insert it
back again..
u can check for errors with pocket mechanic professional..
little warning though : do not do this with non branded fake 4gb cards as it
renders it useless probably..( these cards that are 2gb and reformated to hold 4gb)

it will work if someone can port wm6 r2 to the wizard
and i had it work with a 4gb sd mini card which wasnt SDHC
the site i bought it doesnt have them anymore ..
it seems it is an "out of specs" sd card hence there not sold here,
but maybe we can find a store that has these cards..
one more thought is that it maybe read the SDHC card as well if we
keep its volume space to a max of 2gb..
multiple volumes on a storage card works fine on a t-mobile stock rom
not tried it on others..
nevertheless ur right about the part that no-one is willing to buy something that doesnt work hence we need to test and try...
or as i would say :
Plug 'n Pray ©
guys, just wait until Monday or Tuesday, you will get a full report
let's start a poll, which ROM should be used for testing
