I have tested and tried both ROM 4.00.11 ENG and ROM 4.00.16 T-Mobile on my O2 XDA but unfortunatelly, the performance result wasn't quite as I expected as a conclusion "I am more satisfied with my old ROM 3.20.16 ENG" but the problem is " how do I get back to my old ROM?" Please help!!!
if you have backup on SD , it is easy to restore it!
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that but I was able to download ROM 3.17.03 ENG nk.nb1 at Jeff Summer's kitchen, will that help? and how do I go about this?

I've done now and it works spot on!
Oh Christ! Does this mean I have to purchase an SD card reader in order to do all of these? Well, this really serves as a lesson to curious idiots like me who loves experimenting...
 Yep! You can grab a cheap one in the ebay auctions, about £7.00.
Any way, don't give up, if you don't experiment yu never learn!
Keep it up!
Ebay is going to take sometime before I get the SD reader, so I'll probably drop by to the mall today to get one.
Thank you so much for the help!
I dropped by at a mall this afternoon and bought myself a cheap generic SD card reader worth $ 17. When I got home, I wasted no time installing my new SD reader--everything was plug and play. After I was done setting up, I immidiately carefully went on through the procedures you posted. Unfortunately, during the process I realized that I'm using a 5.17 bootloader so I was forced to do things the hard way--I was instructed to copy a certain wallaby-patch-tool.nb2 to my SD card using the XDArit program so it would force the bootloader to bypass key checking, but when I tried writing the file to my SD card under diagnostics like as instructed at XDArit page an error message appeared saying " FAILED TO OPEN DEVICE \\.\PhysicalDrive2 " in other words I couldn't write the damn file to my SD Card! What should I do now? I Really need some help here...pls...
I just solved the problem I posted earlier, it was simply a bug in the new XDArit program so what I did was to download an old XDArit program. So what am I supposed to do next after patching my wallaby bootloader 5.17 in order to revert to my old rom?
To be honest, I've only tried with Wallaby bootloader 5.15, I don't know if there is much difference between the 5.15 and 5.17???
When you do the reset what does it say on the Wallaby bootloader?
I finally managed to flash my ROM back to 3.20.16 ENG. All it took was for me to do the process over and over. Althgough inconvinient but it worked!!! So thanks anyway!!!

Get in bootloader, backup boot and OS to SD card.
Using XDArit to read out bootloader file via SD card reader.
I upgrade/downgrade bootloader 5.22 to 5.15/5.15 to 5.22 many times without any problem.

There's no need for you to downgrade anymore your 5.17 bootloader all you need is go to http://xda-developers.com/XDArit/ Please read and follow the instructions carefully. By the way, all the programs you need are there. In case, it didn't work just reply back to this page and I'll help you thoroughly and post step by step all the things I did to make it work.

When I do Power Button + Soft Reset I only see GSM OK and when I touch the rocker keys I get into a diagnostics menu. I think thats the curse of 5.17. Any idea how I can get in the bootloader and back
boot and OS to SD card? Sorry to be such a pain.

Thanks. I have done this countless times. The version of XDArit there is 1.02 and it gives me the same error you faced (ie " FAILED TO OPEN DEVICE \\.\PhysicalDrive2 " etc). You mention that you were able to overcome this issue by using an earlier version of this tool. Can you kindly post where you go the earlier version?
Both your assistance is most appreciated. Regards
Here is where to get XDArit 1.0 http://givemebeer.com:8080/warez/XDA/xdarit.exe
Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 is such a pain in the ass! but like I told u there is a way around it. Bootloader 5.17 as we very well know is incorporated with a key checker, so what you should do is download a wallaby patch from the earlier site I posted and write it to an empty SD card using the XDArit program(remember to choose option 1k under hearder). Then insert the SD card to your XDA and press hold power Button and Soft Reset and a diagnostics sign will appear. Upon seeing the Diagnostics sign immediately prees rocker keys under the display screen which will bring you to a new window that looks like this:
Boot -> SD
CE -> SD
Boot+CE -> SD
Restore SD
About
Exit
If you don't have an extra SD card, then just simply remove the SD card on your XDA without exiting from the window. Insert the SD Card again to your SD Reader and format it. Then write the file NK.Nb1 to your SD card (under header 3.5k) and in any case that you don't have NK.nb1, you could simply go to http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/ and cook any ROM you like under zipped NK.nb1 format which is about 14-15mb.
Follow these simple steps on how to properly write and install NK.nb1 on the SD card to your XDA
-Open XDArit and click Write to SD card
-Select header 3.5k and check Windows CE
-Under Windows CE, browse for the NK.nb1 file that you downloaded or want to install and select it
-Please make sure that the only checked option is Window CE
-Then click ok!, and you will see that it will start writing the NK.nb1 to your SD card (approximately 5mins)
-After it's done writing, Remove the SD card and plug it to your XDA
-Then select Restore SD and press action or the rocker key
-A message will again appear asking whether you want to abort or continue, just select continue and it will proceed with the installation and flashing
-Never disturb your XDA and wait until it finishes in writing the ROM
FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
I will not be hold liable to any damages on your XDA!!!

I had the XDA special edition ROM on my XDA-I. for some stupid reason i downloaded the TMobile WM2003 ROM from ROMKitchen and ugraded it but i hate it n m trying to get rid of it. Now i have seen in the posts that TMobile ROMs have a problem where they do not let u change the ROMs again using the Program A methods so i m tryin to use the SDCard method, i dont see the screen that allows me to do that when i have the SD card with the image in the slot. Presumably i m doing something wrong while creating the image. I m doing it using XDATools OSImageTool, i have another ROM image NB1 file from ROMKitchen as welll i select that as the source, i select the XDA SD Card slot as the destination and copy over the image. but when i reset with the power button pressed i get the Wallaby color screen and not the flashing screen that i m supposed to see.. Can somebody tell me what i m doing wrong?
thanx
Looks like the rom didn't get wriiten correct on the SD-Card, or you have the wron bootloader version on your device.
Try writing the ROM-Image via an external SD-Writer.
You can also try backing up old ROM to your SD via Bootloader and then look if you're able to reinstall it on your device....
Stefan
stefan thanx for your reply. The bootloader version that shows up when i do a restart with power switch pressed is V5.14, Is that the correct version? Is there anyway to check or insure if the image has been written correctly on the SD card?
I do not have access to an external SD card writer so that option is out the window.

The old ROM i presume is gone? but is there a way? or can i use some other method? I noticed there is this USB flashing thingie if i press the volume button. Any pointers you can give me to use that?
thanx bunches for your help!
Maybe it's a problem of the bootloader. Never had Version 5.14.
You could also try this and then try to reflash your device:
# Download the XDATools ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wallaby/Tools/XDATools.zip and extract them
# Go to a DOS prompt and CD to where you have extracted the XDATools
# Type 'pnewbootloader bootloader_v5_15.nb0' to write the Wallaby 5.15 boot loader to the device.
The output looks like this:
D:\XDAtools\binaries>pnewbootloader_40116 bl515.nb0
Copying D:\XDAtools\binaries\itsutils.dll to WCE:\windows\itsutils.dll
in FindFlashInfoOffset
protection found at 8c0d60f8
result: 00000000 00000000
stefan when i try to do that, the first message that pops up is "Do not run this tool unless; you want to downgrade your 5.17 bootloader to 5.15 you have somehow managed to overwrite... "
Now i do not know if i have 5.17 or no.. as i said i had given you the version from the screen that comes up when u reset while pressing the power switch..
in any case i did a yes.. and it said "Unable to find flash info offset, cannot disable bootloader writeprotect"
thanx bunches!
stefan.. sorry if i m being a pain.. as i mentioned in the last post the bootloader doesnt work.. i think my problem is similar to these guys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7646
but i do not have access to an external SD card writer.. so i was looking at this article..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2110
i have the mtty utility and i can get to the USB prompt, can i somehow use that to flash the bootloader and the rom? where do i get those files and emm is the method safe?
thanx again for your help
oh btw.. i saw this post..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21264
i went over the steps that u had mentioned for making the SD card.. from the device itself..
You require a SD-Card with >= 64 MB
XDAtools ftp://[email protected]/Wallaby/Tools/XDATools.zip
Your downloaded ROM from my kitchen
step1) Boot your XDA up normal and connect via active sync (guest partnership is ok)
step2) Copy all your data of your sd-Card to your local PC otherwise all data on it will be gone
step3) Enter bootloader of your device by pressing On/Off and doing a softreset
step4) After the Message GSM OK press the Contact Button of your device
step5) Navigate with the pad to "CE+BOOT TO SD"
step6) Confirm this with the Action Key (Press the middle of the Navigate-Pad)
step7) After finishing enter again bootloader by holding On/Off and doing a soft reset
step8) Bootloader should tell you something tah OS is detected on your SD-Card
If No -> Problem
If Yes -> continue
i have problems more advice?
thanx bunches!
one thing.. if i take CE+ROM->SD of another device (going a reset with power switched pressed and pressing contacts button), and i put that SD card in my device and boot, i shud get an option to update the ROM from the SD card right?
if i dont.. is there anything that i can do?
thanks
IGA

Please make sure you have HardSPL on your device. And also make sure you have more than 50% of battery left or you can plug in a charger just to make sure there is no power failure. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
please use a ROM that is meant to be used with the Polaris. Please note that this method is meant only for the HTC Polaris, for other devices please refer to their respective wiki.
Instructions
Get a MicroSD card that is formatted as Fat32. The card must be formatted as Fat32 otherwise it will not work. It doesn't need to be blank or freshly formatted (but it wont hurt if it is)
Find the ROM image you would like to use, normally named RUU_Signed.nbh, and rename it to "POLAIMG.nbh". Depending on the source of your ROM file, it may not be named RUU_Signed.nbh, but just rename the nbh file you obtained to POLAIMG.nbh
Copy the file POLAIMG.nbh to the root of your microSD card
Plug the card into the phone, then enter boot loader mode by pressing down the Camera button, then using the stylus, press and hold the RESET button at the bottom of the phone. Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears.
You will first see a tri-color screen then the information on the card. Press power button to start flashing.
After all these are done, press the reset button located at the bottom of the phone to reset the device.
The procedure can be also used to flash Radio ROM's to your device.

I'm really happy with that. But it doesn't change anything. Maybe the phone doesn't recognize the card while in loader (SDHC) or whatever. It just flashes the 3-color screen and tries to continue loading.

thx, i am still waitting my polaris "loading..."
I tried to flash my 6915 to 1.21UK English but while writing I accidentally unplugged the cable and now the unit is stuck at the HP logo page (blue and white screen). It will not go forward anymore.
I tried to reset with two buttons between the Green and Red buttons and I have "Serial - HP Invent - vG3.9" screen, then changed to "USB - HP Invent - vG3.9" when plugged into PC. Then I ran "UNI_ExitBootloader" as suggested by someone but it revert to the Logo screen again. I guess I bricked the unit.
Is there a way to bring the unit back to life by flashing using the SD card method? If so where to find the material and the tutorial?

No response from unit
Hi,
I followed your procedure and did it about 10 times but never got the unit to boot and flash from SD card. I understand essentially your procedure copies the ROM image into the SD card and place into unit, put it into BootLoader mode by pressing "function button+function button+soft reset". But the unit only show the "Serial + Logo + vG.39" screen, and stop there. I tried the "power button+call button+end button+soft reset" but got the blue+white screen and stuck.
Please help with any solutions.
what is the SD Card. This procedure work 100% on the device.

SD card
I used a empty Nokia 128MB mini SD card, from my unused phone. You think changing the card will work?
I formatted the card in FAT before the operation. What I can see is the WinHex Editor replaced from location 00x0000 with all "A8", then write from same location with the binary image of the ROM file from clipboard. But should there be a boot sector before the ROM image?
Thanks for responding.
WinHex direct write rom file in SDCard, not need to format!
PUT CURSOR IN WinHex to position 0x00000000 and write image directly to Physical Media.
Follow the steps!
The steps
This is a description of steps I took:
1. Use WinHex to open ROM file, copy from location 0x00000 the ROM image to clipboard.
2. Open media (Nokia 128MB) and fill from location 0x00000 with all "A8".
3. Write onto media with ROM image in clipboard from location 0x00000, first words show "sable.....".
4. Save content to media.
5. Close all programs.
6. place media in HW6915, push power button, screen show blue-white HP logo.
7. Push "power+action button+action button+reset", screen show "serial - HP Invest - vG.39", stuck!!
I also tried push "power+call+end+reset", the unit show blue-white screen and stuck again.
It is as if the unit has lost the ability to boot from SD card, or even read from SD card.
Pls help.
Thanks for responding.

Final act
Thanks SPGI, for your help, I have exhausted all means to revive the d*** thing. I had dump it into the trash can and of this morning, the garbage truck is carrying it to its final destination.
This is step by step how to install ClockworkMod (or at least how I did it). I noticed nobody else really had a detailed step by step for noobs...so here you go
I do not take any credit for the development of CWMod. I just take credit for the guide XD
If this does something bad to you or your device it's your fault. I take no responsibility for anything, any damage to you, your property, or anyone.
You will need...
A micro SD card (and a way to get files onto it)
Patience
to be willing to void your warranty
Step 1.
Download ClockworkMod v08 (This version has been found to work best...the newer version causes some issues with some ROMs.)
The file needed is cwmod_v08.zip and can be found at the bottom of this post.
Step 2.
Unzip the downloaded file to your microSD card. Your microSD card should contain a folder called recovery, and a file named update.zip. (This cannot be done using the internal memory with this download.)
(For those wondering, I already updated the file to point to the microSD card rather than the internal storage to reduce the steps needed.)
Step 3.
Turn off your device.
Step 4.
Press the power button and the Volume+ button at the same time and release them when the Viewsonic splash screen pops up. You should see "Detect a recovery key pressed" pop up in the upper left corner of the screen.
Step 5.
Watch it install. Your tablet will reboot when installation is complete.
If you want to get into ClockworkMod you need to shut down your device, then press the Power and Volume+ button (the same way you did to install CWMod).
Vol+ and Vol- are to scroll up and down, the home button selects an option, and the back option backs up.
Many thanks to all the contributors for making this forum kickazz
Good post! It's nice to see all of the contributions people are making to this thread. I know it's a drag but reading these post and then reading them AGAIN has gotten me over my noob fear of totally bricking my unit.
By CAREFULLY reading the forums my machine is now rooted, running TNT lite 2.2, has full Market access, syncs with my exchange server\gmail and hotmail accounts and oh yeah lets me rock out to Angry Birds, watch video or movies and read books on Kindle or FBReader.
Yeah I've gotten the boot loop and most of the other "there is a possibility this could happen" items. Don't panic, set it aside come in and read the forum and you'll learn how to fix it.
I do recommend Clocworkmod it gives you so many options when you bork your system.
Order that I'd follow
Install ClockWorkMod
Clear the CACHE using CWM
Install TNT Lite 2.2
Install Flash 10.1
Perform Market fix
Install Angry Birds
Enjoy
All of these can be discovered in this thread just remember DON'T PANIC help is around the corner.
Great post! Its true, there was no instructions how to this. I had to get the info from the Tegratab forums. Thank you.

I'm finishing up a start-finish guide on how to install clockwork, tnt lite 2.2, flash, and market. Should be up in a bit.
Are there any guides on how to reflash back to viewsonic's standard firmware? You know, just in case I need to return the little beast....

Cannot get cwm8 installed
I guess I am really missing something about the steps to install CWM8 as I have placed this on a Micro SD card and when I insert it in the gtab and reboot it only recovers from the original internal file and not the one on the Micro SD card, how do I get it to identify the card?

Be sure there are no update.zip files on the internal storage.
thank you very much, excellent info
ok, flashing clockworkmod isnt working for me. I already have tnt 2.2 installed and titanium backup. apparently i skipped the whole clockworkmod when i got my gtab and got it hooked up. couldnt wait to try tnt 2.2.....
so, i have downloaded the clockworkmod file and unzipped it to my internal storage. when i reboot with power and vol+ i get to a yellow triangle for about 1-2 seconds then it kicks me to the normal boot and loads as normal.
any ideas on how i can get clockworkmod on here?
i thought maybe i can try rommanager, since this file didnt work, but it didnt work either.
i am wanting clockworkmod so i can backup and flash / install the wifi tether fix for ad-hoc mode.
any ideas?

That's your problem. I apolagize for not being more clear. This version of clockworkmod can only be installed from a microSD card. I will edit the guide to clarify.
stuck at booting recovery kernel image
attempting to install and it won't get past the point where it displays "booting recovery kernel image"
attempted to use 2 different microsd cards, and have tried formatting and all.. it does nothing..
somebody help please!

I had the same issue, I think. But I solved it.
ORIGINALLY (wrong way): I manually put the update.zip file into a folder I created called "recovery."
NOW (right way): I let the zip file extract into my SDCard. This created a folder called "recovery" with a file inside called "command." It also created a SEPARATE file called "update.zip" So it is actually 2 files and one folder.
G-tablet
Sorry i'm not in the loop yet with the tablet, but I've done what I thought was copying then pasting the 2 files, but it looks like its not in the internal root file of the G-tablet as i'm looking at the ES File explorer, when i try from the G-tab to copy then paste it, it says copy failed do i need to do it from my laptop or can i do it from the G-tab and will someone please walk me through it from start to finish, i'm in a pinch here Thanks, anyone ......
Perhaps this will help a bit, feel free to link to this image in other threads where this might be needed. I think I have it correct, let me know if it is wrong. A picture of what you need in order to recover/reflash is maybe worth more than words here.

i did it on 20900(gdr2, russian), but any firmware have not this function. your firmware is not installing through this menu.
OK, I know everything
Flashing the ROM via SD depends on what we have in the UEFI partition. Older versions do not have this feature.
