I have t-mobile's code... now what? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I've not seen a post on how to unlock the XDA if you do have the unlock code from t-mobile. I sent them an e-mail, they responded, quite quickly I might add. Gave me the number for my phone.
But without a non-t-mobile SIM card to insert (which would force it to prompt me to unlock... as I understand it) how do I get my PPC to accept the unlock code?
thanks
Eric

Just use the XDA developer xda-unlock tool

When you insert another SIM card, it'll ask for that code. That's what I am guessing.

you need to get a sim from another company. they do not sell them at the stores. i was fortunate to have a friend who lent me his to unlock mine. check with friends to see if they have a different carriers sim otherwise i would check ebay.

You are correct. When you insert another carrier's SIM, you will be prompted to enter the unlock code. Best bet is to borrow a SIM from a friend who is an ATTWS GSM subscriber. My understanding is that you only get prompted for the code the first time (but I'm also unsure whether this will survive across a cold reset).

This is indeed what happens. I am a T-Mo customer and requested my SIM unlock code. They never actually sent it to me, I had to call back and the body of the email was there in the support log... anyhoo... when I took it to Canada I purchased a Rogers AT&T SIM card and sure enough when we put it in, it asked for the code. Simple as that!
NOTE: Rogers AT&T service is absolutely TERRIBLE in Halifax, NS and its surrounding area.

CID unlock,/SIM Unlock for HD2 TMOUS?

I have read in another thread that the HD2 doesn't need a CID unlock like my Topaz did for SIM unlock. The HSPL would do this for HD2!
Well first thing I would like to know is: Is this true?
Second thing is: If this is true, it is also true for T-Mobile US HD2?
Thanks.

Hi. What I do know is that you can get the sim unlock code from T-mobile. I just called them yesterday and asked for a unlock code. They said emailing me the code in 24 hrs. Hopefully they will do.
Is anyone besides me just a little annoyed at the people who say "I just talked to T-Mobile and I should have my code in 24hrs" but not one post actually saying they received their code and their phone is unlocked?
Why even bother posting?
I've been with T-Mobile for years, and they have provided an unlock code for me a number of times. You just have to request one. It used to be that you'd need to have been with them for 90 days, now it's 14 days after you've bought the device or signed a new contract.
Here is the email I got from Tmobile..
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: XXXXXXXX
IMEI: 3XXXXXXXXXXX
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We have forwarded your request to the manufacturer. These requests normally take 24-48 hours, but may sometimes take longer based on circumstances that are not under our control. Please allow 14 days before submitting a duplicate request. If no response has been received after 14 days, please submit a new request.
NOTE: Since T-Mobile is requesting an unlock code from the manufacturer we cannot guarantee the response time or that a unlock code will be provided.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department

excuse me for being noob, but what do we do with the code after recieveing it?
are we supposed to plug it in somewhere?

Wtf, I called in my request March 25th, and I didn't even get a confirmation email. I called them two times in between, and was told first time wait 24 hours, 2nd time wait 78 hours. I've been on pre-paid sim for over 2 months now too.
my friend still hasnt got his code from T-Mobile..he is getting pissed...i can use my hd2 with all its glory but hes limited to wifi..and let me add it was hell trying to get these phones ugh...but it was so worth the highspeed drives to 2 different towns outside of Houston, Tx..man so worth it lols
I've had three phones unlocked by tmobile. just call them and tell them you're going abroad and you need you phone unlocked. i do not think they will unlock it soon as you get it. the email said you have to have been on the tmobile plan for at least 90 days before requesting unlock code. make sure you verify 3 times your IMEiwith the operators because I've had them get it wrong a few times. its frustrating and delays you getting your code. if all goes well, you get it in bout 24 hours.
I did request and RECEIVED unlock code from TMobile for about 10 times w/o much problem. Those code DO work and you dont need to reenter them after soft/hard reset.
They DO check that you are with them for 90 days. In fact you can request 1 unlock code every 90 days. Just call and tell that you are going overseas and need your phone to be unlocked. They will try to offer you those terrible "international" deals. Deny them, nothing beats local SIM
As been said - verify IMEI code and your phone model several times with TMO Rep, because couple times they DID send me wrong codes.
They send you email with unlock code and ALSO unlock INSTRUCTIONS specific for your phone.

If you've purchased outright and are a current pre/postpaid customer, there's not waiting period, as listed on their policy.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
My problem is a little different. I'm intending to buy a HD2 from T-mobile while in US this April, BUT I'm from Brazil and I do not intend to have a plan with T-Mobile US. I would like to have my HD2 unlocked so I could use it in Brazil, if TMOUS can't do it or won't do it because I won't have a plan with them, how can I do it? Does anyone know a unlock store in Miami ou Orlando?
I'm not willing to do it from internet sites, I really don't trust them to give my IMEI.
Thanks.

I'm surprised TMo doesn't just give you the unlock code on your account page.. AT&T does that now, when you sign into your account online.

I don't have an account with Tmo... I bought the phne outright, faxed them the reciept and recieved the code 48 hours later via email
I thought I might have to wait for the 14 day buyers remorse period but that was not the case.
I guess it helped that I told them I live in Canada and could not go back to the USA to return the phone anyways

I paid for my phone in full from a T-Mobile dealer. I have ATT and I told their phone rep this when I called TMo. They painlessly provided me with the unlock code after I faxed a copy of my receipt of purchase. The code works perfectly fine and the phone connected to ATT immediately.
No problems whatsoever.

My heart has just broke, The HTC HD2 will NOT work on Bell Mobility Network, if you want this phone is Canada you must have a Rogers Card. I put it my friends Rogers Sim card and it worked, my Bell Sim does not.
My loss will be some other Canadian's gain.... I will be selling it (tear)

T-mobile is a bit odd...

So I bought my HD2 2 weeks after they came out. Shortly after I tried buying an unlock code for my phone because t-mobiles service in my area is kind of come and go. Unfortunatly I have one of the 35777 Phones so after 4 attempts with 4 different sites failing at getting a code, I tried emailing tmobile to see if they would give me a code as they already told me they dont have service in my area. They told me to fax them a copy of my invoice proving I paid full price for the thing, so I did. About a week later they got back to me and said that due to the fact that I bought it from a site that was not one of their approved retailers I couldnt get an unlock code. So about a week and a half ago I went to a tmobile store and got the darn thing setup anyways. I get some service in this area, just not much. Now about 3 days ago, I get an email from t-mobile that looks like this:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: *******
IMEI: 35777*********
Unlock Code: ********
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.

I kind of find this a bit odd. They tell me I cant get the number, then about a month later they randomly mail it to me anyway.
sounds kind of odd... have you always had tmobile or did you just sign up to purchase the hd2?
Neither, I had at&t before, Wanted to buy it and unlock it to use with at&t but in the process realized at&t's service is a bit of a ripoff. Atleast it is with standard plans. Wanted to try and use my hd2 with a gophone card but it doesnt seem to want to work.

Problem with unlocking Rogers x10a

Hi all, I'm new here and before I tell you the problem, I appreciate all the info on these forums and the work that is put into everything. Thank you in advance.
So, I have a locked Rogers branded X10a, and I was unable to get the SIM unlock pin. So, I got the network unlock code, but whatever sim I put in, the screen always reads "no sim card" in the phone and then the activating screen loads and continues to load forever. Under settings (without a sim in the phone), there is the option for sim unlock pin, but that is the code that I am unable to get after numerous tries on different sites.
How can I get to the screen to enter the sim network unlock code if the phone in not recognizing any sim cards that I put in? Btw, I'm using AT&T. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the length of this post and thank you.
I had similar issue my w580i. I had it after putting the unlocking code it stop recoganising SIM, havn't solution till now
Did you try using a different Rogers sim?
I don't have a rogers SIM, only AT&T. I bought the phone locked and just figured I would be able to get an unlock code like all the other phones I've had before, but no dice.
Check your pm

I just tried to put in my deactivated Rogers SIM card from long time ago, and I am also getting "No SIM Card" ... Not sure if your problem has anything to do with Rogers Wireless used to be "Rogers AT&T" before
If you have any friends has SIM card from different carriers, try to put those in and see if you experience "No SIM Card" issue.
Regards
Mabye it does.. I'll try and find someone with a Tmobile sim I guess.. thanks for the advice though..
Please keep me updated on this, I'm trying to unlock my X10, I got the code from cellunlock.net through the manufacturer and keeps telling me after I enter the code that it was unsuccessful.
I still can't unlock my phone either but I'm not sure about the SIM unlock code you're talking about. Are you talking about the IMEI? or the actual code that's used to unlock the phone? I've tried Mobileincanada.com but they couldn't unlock my phone and gave me a refund and I'm still waiting for this dealer on ebay. Good luck dude, keep us posted

Got an unlock code, www.cellunlock.net
Make sure to pick the Sony Ericsson Manufacturer code it's 34.99 but well worth it. It works now.
the manufacturer unlock code is the one I got, but I just don't get the option to put it in because the phone doesn't recognize the AT&T sims that I've put into it...

How old are the sim cards? If they are old, get new ones. Also, try re-installing the firmware through seus and then putting in your sim card. I never had that issue, I just had a hard time finding the code.
I had a real old one from cingular, but then I just went to AT&T and got a brand new one, but same issue. I'll try updating and see if that helps, but will the phone update without a valid sim inserted?

I had that same problem. Call AT&T or go to your AT&T account online and get the PUK number. Also, did you call AT&T and told them you have a new phone? They need your phone's new IMEI number.

I'm sorry, what is the PUK number for and also, why does AT&T need my IMEI number? I mean, the phone is still locked to rogers right now regardless, right?
Lots of noob questions, sorry.
Also, i already spoke to AT&T, Rogers and Sony Ericsson about the issue, but none of them are any help of course. The PUK did nothing for me either. I feel like I am running out of options here...
welcome to the club

so far no solution
So, I tried repairing through PC Companion and then I also ran the update and go the newest firmware installed now, but still same problem. Phone does not recognize the AT&T when inserted and therefore, no option to enter the network unlock code. Any others have any luck/make any progress??
wow... i guess i'm in the club as well. I just got back from the Rogers store and they wouldn't let me replace the phone anymore. I've bought the manufacturer's code which is suppose to work 100% but it didn't...so desperate
Sorry to hear that...
You said the code you got didn't work? In what way? did you try to get a refund by providing video evidence?
On a side note, does anyone know how to access a keypad on the x10 that enables you to imput the left arrow, *, * left arrow method to input the code? I realize I need to have a valid rogers sim inserted in order for this to work, but I do not see how to input the arrow keys. Any suggestions? As I've said, I'm new to android and to a device with no physical keyboard, so maybe this is very simple...
thanks and good luck to others in the same spot as me right now..

[Q] Unlocking phone without using another carrier's SIM Card

Hi guys
I purchased a t-mobile mytouch 4g outright last week (no contract). When I contacted t-mobile about getting the phone unlocked, they were happy to provide me with an unlock code. The only problem for me is that unlocking the phone requires using a SIM card from other phone provider, something which I dont have access to atm. Is there any way for me to unlock the phone without having to use a SIM card from another provider. Buying a SIM card isnt cheap (eg $25 for AT&T SIM card), and I would like to get the phone unlocked before I head overseas (in case the unlock code doesn't actually work, I won't be able to return the phone to t-mobile without having some difficulties.
The only way you would be able to do that, that I know of would be to root it and do the s off procedure. I think that also will do the sim unlock for you too. Read over the method that uses gfree and visionary. I think it talks a little about the sim unlock and when in the process it occurs.
Maybe you could just go to att and ask them if they have a sim card you can pop in to complete the process.
borrow one if possible, or do the root method. Worked perfectly fine for me doing that method
First of all to correct True if you go that path you van manually do it via Radio S=OFF, since you have the code why go though all of that? Just do as Osu said and barrow any GSM based carriers SIM. This is another example of Android fail as WinMo has simlock.exe as toolkit for this very reason to unlock it without SIM card.

Is this a new process for unlocks from T-Mobile, that you need to have another provider's SIM card? If I recall correctly (dubious) from getting an unlock code for an MDA and an SDAseveral years ago they would just email you the unlock code and you would enter it into the phone.
Related question if I may: Does T-Mobile still give unlock codes to people who purchased a subsidized smartphone (in particular the MyTouch 4G)? I am considering buying three to replace aging original iPhones and a major reason for me sticking with T-Mobile over the years is their unlock policy. Just want to make sure it's not significantly different for smartphones.
Thanks ... Mike

What is their unlock policy?
tmobile's unlock policy is 1 unlock code every 90 days.
If the phone is taken on a contract, I believe the unlock policy is that it can only be done after 90 days. I bought the phone without a contract outright, which is why I was able to get the unlock code within a week (although I had to call them up and argue a little).
With regards to the unlocking itself, from what I understand if the phone is not rooted (I don't wanna do it yet as I'd rather keep the warranty for the time being, at least while Im still in the US), then the only way it can be unlocked is with another carrier's SIM card because that is the only way that you get prompted to enter the code. I have a code available for my phone, it's just getting the damn card so I can actually unlock it.
btw Im currently in a country with no contacts who are with AT&T, so getting their SIM card is easier said than done. It costs 25 bucks to purchase a AT&T SIM, something I would rather not do to get the unlocking procedure done. From what I've experienced At&T is the only major provider aside from t-mobile which still uses SIM cards, and Boost mobile/Sprint cards won't work with regards to unlocking because they use a completely different type of network, so the phone can't even detect their SIM card (I tried a Boost SIM and it didn't work)

I just recently unlocked some of my older T-Mo phones to sell them more easily. They will provide you unlocks for a retail price phone in one week, or a contract subsidized phone in 90 days. You can even request unlocks for phones you no longer use (like my T-Mo Dash I found in a box in the garage).
To "complete" the unlock process you must insert a non-TMo SIM card and the device will prompt you for the code. After entering the code, the phone is unlocked and will remain that way. Borrow a friend's SIM, it's what I ended up doing. Alternatively, if you are just wanting to unlock to resell the phone later, the code is "always valid" for that phone's IMEI and you can just provide the next owner with the code.

You can unlock without rooting using gfree, if getting a SIM is truly an issue just to complete the process. See the gfree thread.
gfree usage:
gfree [-h|-?|--help] [-v|--version] [-s|--secu_flag on|off]
-h | -? | --help: display this message
-v | --version: display program version
-s | --secu_flag on|off: turn secu_flag on or off
-c | --cid <CID>: set the CID to the 8-char long CID
-S | --sim_unlock: remove the SIMLOCK

Just run gfree only with -S and that should do the trick and leave the phone still S-ON and unrooted.

Last time I did this it functioned normally aside from no cell service. WiFi and everything else worked fine. No unlock prompts.
Holdup & Genocaust you are right. I found the unlock email from T-Mobile when I last did this in 2007, and yes, you do need to insert a foreign SIM.
holdup, not sure what you mean about only being able to use an AT&T SIM. I know for a fact you can use any UK-based SIM (T-Mobile, O2, Orange, Vodafone, even Tesco). You might look on fleaBay or Craigslist to see if anyone near wherever you are at has one for sale. It doesn't need to have credit on it as far as I recall.
I know that any international gsm Sim will work, but part of the problem is I won't have one until I leave the country, and if the code by some chance doesn't work getting it exchanged or refunded. The At&t sim im referring to is a US sim, not Uk (might have been some confusion there), which t mobile assured me would work. I don't want to buy a sim online right now because I don't have a fixed address for more than a few days at a time (currently doing a tour of the Us).
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You could just go to the AT&T store, and do one of the following:
1. Flat out ask them if they could let you borrow an AT&T SIM so you can unlock the phone. BTW, the SIM they lend you does not have to be activated for this to work. It just needs to have a different network ID in it, which it will, because it will either be blank or it will be AT&T's; and in either case it wont match the TMobile network id.
2. Tell the AT&T store rep that you are wanting to bring-in your mytouch into their network (you'll buy service), but that you first want to see how it would behave in their network... And so, could they let you borrow a SIM to "test drive" it in their network... tell them you heard the phone has a radio that is compatible with their 3G frequency and that you want to verify that...
BTW, there is another way to access the unlock screen. It's just that the easiest way to trigger that software is to insert a SIM with a different network ID. Call tmobile or HTC and they may give you the other process. I have done this in the past for other handsets...

It only takes 5 minutes. You don't have any friends or coworkers with a GSM SIM you could borrow? That's how I used to do it for my old dumb phones.
i know it takes 5 mins, but if you bothered to read my post you would read that Im in a foreign country with no contacts, currently working in a hospital. Virtually all doctors I work with have an Iphone or some CDMA phone, haven't come across anyone with AT&T.
Anyway, got the phone unlocked, just went to an AT&T store n pretended to be interested in buying a SIM, then used a sim card they provided to unlock, thanks to everyone for their help

LG Optimus Unlock -- Strange Security?

Hey guys, strange problem:
Got a Telus LG Optimus 7. Want to unlock it to Rogers. Got the unlock code, however when I use my Rogers SIM the Optimus asks for a 'PUK' number.
Long story short, I called Rogers, they gave me the PUK for my SIM. When I enter it I get 'SIM Error'. So I went to a Rogers store and got a new SIM card with a new PUK--same error. Tried someone else's Roger's SIM--still asks for PUK.
I called around, no one has any idea what's going on. Google can barely help. Telus tells me I have to pay $50 to get it off their network, but I can't trust the rep knew what the problem was and they won't just give me an unlock code I already have. A 'cell phone repair shop' tells me LG phones are impossible to unlock anyway (? really?). So my question is:
How do I unlock this phone? What kind of security is this (could the PUK refer to someother other than a SIM's PUK)? Anyone have experience unlocking a Telus Optimus? Can I flash this thing and see if it'll bypass the PUK part?
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Other wise I have to try and resell this phone.
So, I re-flashed the phone anyway, just to see if it works.
Now it's a little different. Now it asks for a PUK and once I enter that it tells me to create a PIN. When I do it says SIM ERROR! So while I can get a little farther it still errors out!
I've tried both the Telus flash and the Mexico flash.
So if it's not the firmware, what could be causing this?!
PIN & PUK security depends on SIM card functionality, in this case phone software is transparent and does not verify PIN. IMHO it looks like incompatibility between SIM card and WP7 phone or strange configured SIM card. Try on another non-WP7 phone, maybe if you set or disable PIN code card will function on WP7 phone.
Thanks for the tip elektryk. I think you're on to something.
I have tried the SIM in a non-WP7 phone. It works fine. I put it in both an iPhone and BB. Using the iPhone I created a PIN then tried the Optimus. It now asks for a SIM pin--which I input, then goes back to the PUK screen which still fails.
It seems to be a very strange incompatibility with the SIM, even though I've read reports of Telus Optimus being unlocked for Rogers SIMs.
Bad luck I suppose?
I have exactly the same problem. I put a SIM with PIN security enabled, and after I enter the correct PIN requests the PUK!! and if I disable the PIN secure, request inmediatly for the PUK. The Phone say: Your phone is Blocked. Contact the Service provider for an unlock code.--- the only problem is that I don't use the AT&T service, so I can't contact them!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Fabian, I could not find a way around the problem so I sold the phone. Luckily there was another e900h which was unlocked for sale. The guy followed the same steps I did but it never asked for a PUK. Weird how some phones do and others don't (especially considering both phones were from the same provider).
EDIT: Hey, try this, see if it works: Try without sim card for enter the unlock code. and type 2945#*900# for enter the unlock menu

Hey, start the phone without sim card, but no unlock code required, no where to type.
I've a E900h where none of the 5 unlock codes provided worked for some reason. Haven't ask for PUK yet but lost as to what to do right now.
Typing 2945#*900# just produces a failed msg - top left hand corner is a file icon with lock on the left.
In our country ones you buy a sim from network provider.
they give us a card with a PUK code for the sim we buy.
