Always-on GPRS, which Radio versions? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I have version 3.17 ROM and tried the 6.27 Radio Stack but got no signal/network at all, so I went to 4.21 and all is well again, except the GPRS disconnects when I take a call.
I wouldnt mind so much is my network (Optus-Australia) didnt charge me 20c each time I connect. Basically it means I pay for every incomming call, and an extra 20c for every outgoing call. I dont understand why they need to do that but I guess that greed would be the answer considering they charge me US$14,000 per gig of data transfer. (no not too many zero's there, its fourteen thousand dollars US per gigabyte of data transfer)
Back to the topic. I thought maybe the 6.xx radio only worked with ROM 4.00 etc, so I upgraded the ROM but found the killer-app for XDA (ICQ) wont install onto 4.00, so there was no point in that.
Does anyone know what versions of Radio Stack support the GPRS-on-hold feature? It looks like there is two different 'families' of Radio, 4.xx and 6.xx and mayby not compatible?
Any way to get always-on GPRS with a 3.xx ROM? I think 4.21 is the latest Radio in the 4.xx series ?
Either that or get ICQ to install on 4.00 ROM, and use 6.27 Radio maybe?
PS: I did see a version of a mesenger program that will work with ICQ on ROM 4.00 but it mentioned something about 'advertising' , and at $14,000 per gigabyte I need to give the advertising a miss for now
Regards
Scott

Horrible Reception

i've been using my jam for about 4 months now and i had horrible reception with it since i brought it to America, when i used in Saudi Arabia i never had a reception issue. Well for the last week and couple days i've been using this extremely old nokia 3590 and i get full reception with it, specially in my house where i would usually have no reception with the jam. my jam i forgot if my jam is the 850 or 900mhz jam. i know cingular runs on 1900mhz and another i think 850mhz. Well does anyone have issues with reception on a "foriegn" network? and know of a solution?
What Rom Ver are you running there and what is the radio stack ver , sometimes it helps to change the radio stack . . . upgrading it or downgrading it . There's quite a few posts regarding radio updates.
Cheers
horriable reception!!
I used mine in india whilst trekking no probs. I regularly travel all over the world and have had no issues wit phone use. Except takes alittle while to log in to a network.
isnt there a version which is 900 1800 800 /1900 mhz for the US ?
Im sure I read it some where.
maybe your not picking up all the transmitters.
i'm on Rom version 1.12.00 WWE Radio Version 1.13.00 protocol 1337.43 and ExtRom 1.12.167
Mine is the 850/1800/1900 and i think cingular runs on 900 aswell as 1900, also the old at&t network which is now cingular is 850 so why am i not getting good reception? i was reading theres a bigstorage rom where you can select the mhz frequency you want the antenna to run on.. anyone know if that would be a fix?

I don't think it is the hardware. I'm using an XDA Mini, which is the European version. It is loaded with the Imate softare off of this site, and I pick up Cingular towers (though my service is through T-Mobile). You might try updating your ROM.
I am in the LA area.
ROM 1.13.00 WWE
Radio 1.12.10 1337.42
ExtRom 1.12.188 WWE (But I have modified to BigStore)
you can download the radio freq select cab file on its own , do a search on the forum for something to that effect as its somewhere.
then you can manual select them.
thanks for the updated info. Steve, thanks for the info, knowing your using a "foriegn" magician in the us helps me a little. right now i'm downloading the latest WWE rom from the FTP site, i think its 11200_188_11210. if thats not the lastest, please advise me so i can get the latest rom.
also steve your on 1.13.00 because your using the bigstorage correct?
FrankenMini!

Well, it is a long story. I went to the UK site and downloaded their upgrade program. Then I backed up my ROM, and used the NOID program to update the UK ROM. The actual EXE file at the UK site won't work unless the device is actually from the UK, hence the "NoID" version of the updater has to be used. BTW, ActiveSync needs to be in normal mode (USB "checked") and the Magician has to be in Boot Loader mode when the NoID upgrader program is executed. The documentation was a bit inconclusive on these two points. The above combination worked on my unit.
At that point I had a latest UK version ROM, and it worked fine. But now I had the "upgrade bug", and wanted to customize everything. Taking a deep breath...
I discovered the addresses for the Extended storage and changed them to make that ROM a BigStorage ROM. There was already a UK version Big Storage available on the ftp site, but for some reason it would not complete the boot after flashing the ROM. Anyway, I ended up with the UK ROM modified for Big Storage, and decided to use the latest released IMATE Extended ROM utilities. Then I changed the boot screen and - there it is. OK, OK, so I do things the long way...
I tried the UK Ext ROM stuff also, but they have things that do not apply to the US T-Mobile, such as Blackberry push from their servers. So my unit is a hybrid...
Just call it FrankenMini!
The only co$t is for a 256 mb SD card to contain the ROM image as you transfer it to and from the PC. Actually, 128Mb would do, but the 256 was just about as cheap.

thanks for all this information, and sorry to have you go through all this, but i've just figured out a simple fix.... I'm going to trade in my jam for a k-jam, since its quad band and it runs on WM5.0 i think i'll be happier with it. although its a little thicker i think i'm gonna go ahead with the transition.
Thank you again for all your info, but does anyone know where i can get a picture of the jam next to the k-jam, i remember some site had pics of them together but i can't seem to find it now.

K-Jam is OK as well, but I would never use the keyboard and it is too thick for me. The JAM is just right.

Post your Bugs/Issues for ROM upgrade 1.35

Thought I'd start a thread where people can post there issues/bugs on ROM upgrade 1.35 and it will also help people to make an informed decision before upgrading to this ROM.
I have now used this ROM on my SPV M3100 for over several weeks and the only issue I have is when using my 3 network USIM the voicemail speed dial 1 does not work even after going through the settings or registry the bizzare thing is I don't get this issue with other network SIM i.e. O2, Orange or T-Mobile.
P.S. before someone says I may have a faulty 3 USIM, I did not have this issue prior to this upgrade.
Is the 1.35 Rom different from?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294927&highlight=issues
The HTC ROM 1.35 is different from the cingular ROM 2.06, it's supposedly the most stable of the ROM upgrades or so they say!
I haven't any issue, Radio & ROM 1.35 ... i've read someone has problems with messaging service...
Using a Task Manager ONE TIME only i've seen the Messaging Service stopped, just a reboot.
now works well, bt, wifi & radio
and what happend, when you try to change the very first contact on sim? I had similar problem, but on old nokia phone, not windows nor symbian.

Would the HTC 1.35 ROm work on the Cingular 8525?
loud busy tone even if Phone is on loudness=0
i have some problems with this Radio 1.35.00.11. The thread is about that, isn´t it?
First of all my phone beeps loud out of the speaker at the back(the loud one for "free speaking") if the Person iam calling is not available (busy signal). Even if the Phone is turned to loudness 0! Iam not sure that the Radio Rom is responsible for that, because i reseted my vario2 completely. But iam sure that problem i never had before(with the german origninal Radio ROm).
*edit* iam currently reading that this is not a problem from the Radio Rom... The extRom may be responsible. Sorry!
But please help me the following Topic:short: is it possible to flash to an older RadioRom?
*/edit*
Because of that i wanted to flash the 1.27. Radio ROM to the Vario2. I took this one: ftp://xda:[email protected]_TMD-TMA_Radiopatch_1.27.00.00_107_GER.exe
The flashing procedure got complete without any error, but on the Vario iss still the 1.35.00.11! Isn´t it possible to flash to a older Rom Version?
Thanks for help!?

IM+ MDA ROM Upgrade to 2.26 & no IM+

I just got my MDA and i installed IM+ it worked fine but after i upgrade my ROM 2.26.10.2 WWE from tmobile my IM+ doenst connect anymore is there hack for or anything or way i could get my old ROM back? i did hardreset it still gave me 2.26.10.2 WWE. when i connected threw WiFi, it works perfectly just doesnt work when i m not connected to wifi. can some one please help me i really need IM+ workign thank you sooo much in advance.
Assuming your speaking of your purchased version not working, I think IM+ uses some ID to control your license. This ID changes each time you flash a new rom. Email/contact the IM+ people and inform them of the situation. They should be able to provide you with a new code based on your new device ID.
The device ID will not change through flashing a different ROM! It needs special tools for changing that!
My guess is that something is not correct with the connection settings. Did you try to cennect via WiFi already ???
T-Mobile tends to block some ports on their GPRS settings to let you only go where they want you to go ... might be that your data plan needs an upgrade!
A new code from IM+ is only necessary in case your serial# does not work any longer!

Disconnect after upgrade WM6

After upgrade to WM6, every time I call or receive the call, the phone will be disconnected.
Anyone has same experience ? And still, the keyboard can freeze if I want to reply a SMS directly I must go back to main menu, open the SMS, then reply.
Same experience here..tried all ROMs but same..
I have been facing exactly the same thing, as far as the Radio at least. I have also tried all sorts of different ROMs, even Radio versions but with no difference. Basically, out of nowhere i find out that my mobile cannot be reached for like hours, although it shows normal reception, until i try to make a call...then it gives me "Operation Failed" and loses the signal...only to start working normal again.
Could this be the beggining of the End for my Hardware or just firmware guys???
Tank you all..
The same thing i have. TyTN lose the signal while the phone call.
ROM: Storm v2.10
Radio: 1.54.30.10
Try this people!!!
I have flashed my TYTN with the original ROM WM6 from HTC below(comes with Radio), and it seems all WELL.
PS: The original WM6 is not the best looking but at least i get to make and receive calls with intergrity now.

Ysut, one has HTC flash screen and one has Imate screen.... Other than that its probably just a few different 3rd party apps( in oz Imate is geared up for Telstra as they distribute Imate phones)... Still badly bloated with network crap. Cheers...

[Wiered] Incomming call problem on any WM upgrade

Hellow guyz Quickly I go through the problem i Have
I have what?
O2 xdaIIs bootloader v2.7
Radio: 1.15 & 1.12 (tested both)
Extrom Unlocked and reformatted to 128KB
I cant recive any call. Whenever i dial my number, my phone behaves as turned off and I hear the operator saying please try calling later. But oding outgoing calls works fine
Though my phone is on and in working condition. I can make calls and can send/recive sms. Wifi/bluetooth/IR no problems. Just the most wiered problem is about incomking calls. no one can contact me but i can contact them.
Also when i resume my device from suspend and quickly send an sms. It says please wait 15 minutes for the device to be ready. So i wait till i get older enough to use my phone
Any fix or any diagnostic? Looks like I am the only one with this problem
The official O2_UK_1.4_wm2k3 upgrade works fine in every aspect.
I need to enjoy the full functionality with the wm5/6 apps. I need WM upgrade especially for softmaker office..
PLEASE HELP IN THIS REGARD. DONT ASK ME AGAIN THE SAME SILLY QUESTION ABOUT READING THE WIKI. I HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH IT AND FOUND NOTHING
What WM6 ROM do you use? Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428030, WM6.1 CEOS 5.2.20755 Build 20755 Aku 1.4 WWE [V2.22] works perfect!
well, I have used sun dream's v20758, then swampy's BA_CE_OS_5.2.20275_(Build_20275.1.3.3)_Basic (both didnt worked)
then WM5 from buzzdev forums(the only available WM5 download for BA at buzzdev)
i love fastness of wm2003SE but as u know, WM5/6 have much more compatibility for latest apps, thats why
still no luck
tired of reflashing
2day i will try, Helmi's WM5 (aku 3.5 i think), and xplode's WM6.1 v19293 (i just want the incoming calls). And now downloading v2.755 one Wish me luck
In WM5, sometimes the phone straight away says sim card not found. but other way it works on any other phone. In Wm6 every thing runs gud, but no incoming calls.
One more thing. I put my phone near my Sound System. When i dial my phone number, the same periodic resonant sound appeared at the speakers of sound system (like incoming call or SMS) but suddenly died down and my network operator said "please retry calling later. Your contact is not available
looks like my phone is rejecting calls
any other radio version you recommend?
I have already used v1.15 and 1.12 and still no luck. Every thing else works like charm. I am a student so I barely get money to recharge my phone's balance, mostly dependant on incomming calls. Thats why??
C'mon! Am I only one with this problem?
Tested, Helmi's aku 3.5, xplode's aku 3.5.2 kitchened roms
Tested 20755 and pv-DVH clean and green rom. None did some support to my calling thingi...........I am gonna get a new sim card and see if it is the problem with sim card.
IMHO sim card is fine since it is fully read in WM2K3 SE. Then why not in WM5/6/6.1 ?
you have very curious problem, which honestly i haven't encoutered on any BA so far...
it may be a radio problem in your case, you can try 1.13 or 1.13.10 radio they are pretty stable too
quickly provide me only radio.nbf
i see u online though. I am thinking the same. and I feel to lazy to download the huge T-Mobile Rom for v1.13. Please post the radio.nbf for radio version 1.13 or 1.13.10
still no luck. My network's sim card/network aint compatible with the new windows mobile 5/6/6.1
so no luck, keep on loossing all soft/info with battery har reset thingi on stinky WM2003SE (BTW TMUK upgrade worx like charm. Battery is alive again for 2 dayz backup yay!)
