Sorry to say that a lot of user is stuck with this RSU 4.21 including me, Which can't downgrade back to older version. You might need to wait for newer version.
Friendly speaking only saw a post from this forum that ONE person manage to revert back the RSU.
On my xda (MDA from T-Mobile Germany) I made a complete update with RUU & RSU from this file "4.00.10 - official-tmo2003.rar". After that I experienced same probs as any (?) other European user. So I decided to switch back: I downloaded my old 3.23 RSU from T-Mobile Germany (http://www.t-mobile.de/downloads/software/t_mobile_mda_gsm_gprs_update_v3_23.exe and installed it. While installing to my desktop I ignored an error that says I am trying to install an older version and I should not do that blablabla. It automatically installs (copies) every needed file to the xda via ActiveSync add/remove software dialog.
The updateprogram starts automatically on the xda. It goes slowly to 100% without any error but after a self-performed soft reset it starts again?! So I looked in the StartUp folder and there it was: the program rsuupdate... Incorrectly it was still there, so I deleted it myself.
Now I have a RUU V 4.00.10 ENG with PW10B1 (on my german PW10A1) and a RSU V 3.23. It's running more stable than everytime before.
Chris
Thanks for the post Chris, I just tried that solution but my O2 Xda just hangs when trying to install the T-Mobile upgrade with an error message in german. it was worth a try though.
error message
The error says "Wenn ein Upgrade durchgefuhrt wird mussen sie das Gerat vom Strommetz trennen"
just sussed the error. it must mean take the pda out of the cradle .... doh
its upgrading now. ill let you know it its fixed the prblem. cheers
looks like it worked it logged onto the network straight away. ill keep an eye on it, and keep you updated.
Thanks for the info your a STAR.

update
new problem.
After turning the phone part off, I find that I cant turn it back on again. if I reflash with 4.21 the phone turns on but again the no signal problem comes back
When I say phone part, what I mean is the pda works fine just the phone connection
glad the weather is nice for you .. here in the UK North East coast we are having heavy rain and thunder storms. its nice n cool though and gives me an excuse to sit here and check out the new threads.

Uh, that sounds not good.. We have 30 °C (86 °F) and a lot of sun.
Which RSU did you use? The german one from T-Mobile.de? I suppose it is optimized in any way. Try the English one at http://www.o2.co.uk/personal/xda/docs/Radio_Stack_Upgrade_v421.zip
Chris (meanwhile outside in the sun with laptop and WLAN)
T-Mobile versions don't have GPRS 4+1 AFAIK...
Chris.
yep I used the T-mobile one in your origional post and it works fine until you turn of the radio part on the pda. The alternative link you suggested is the one that has the big problems radio stack v4.21 from O2 Uk.
no worries, ill just have to wait until O2 uk sort out the bugs
thanks for all the advice much apreciated

RSU problems...
I also had some problems after upgrading to 4.21 (including not seeing my home network!!!).
I went into the bootloader and siwtched to DualBand GSM 900/1800, and then everything worked again. BUT then you NEVER go anymore in the menu BAND of your settings or it will switch you back to old config.
Give it a try,
Laurent
Thanks Ill give that a try and keep everyone posted on the situation
Chris (species)
Still the same im afraid,
looks like I will be waiting for O2 to do some bug fixing and releasing an update. Unless anyone knows better ?

Having problems with Radio Version 4.21 from England, ie the phone will not work (I am in Australia). The phone was working OK until I performed the upgrade
It has been suggested that I install Radio Version 6.12 from T-mobile and I have downloaded the file from Yorch, this comes up as an nbf file and I wonder if I should flash it as I can not find RSUupgrade.exe. Any suggestions ?
Chris
You downloaded the wrong file go back to Yorch's site and look under Upgrades and download "USA T-mobile Latest Radio Stack (Unofficial)
RU 6.24.00".

dont Australia use 900/1800 like europe ?

Radio Stack for Australia
Wed Nov 12, 2003 13:10
Hello Qman,
Thank you for your reply! But great news here as I have managed to get my RSU version to work in Australia.
My carrier is Optus and SIM card is fine.
Basically by trying most RSU versions I wasn’t able to get the phone to work. Funny thing is I tried the RSU version for the O2, which is supporting here in Australia but to no avail! I ended up using the new T- Mobile for the US and works like a dream have fully signal as well.
New version is RSU 6.24.
Cheers Erebus,

Further to my problems I upgraded to the T-mobile 2003 ROM an their latest Radio stack 6.24 and all is working OK.
I had sent the XDA to Melbourne (Australia) to the accredited Service company (Accord) and they had sent it back saying that it was buggered. I had some very helpful advice from Peter and Joe and have everything working fine. Curiously, when I had XDA 1.2 and the T-mobile Radiostack the phone kept crashing after reboot. Since upgrading to T-Mobile 4.00.21 ENG and Radio version 6.24.00 all works well.
I did try to download some Medical software (MIMS) and thisd has proven to be a bit of a problem. The tech dude at MIMS was not too impressed with Pocket-PC 2003
Chris
Great, glad to hear it all worked out ok! 8)
Seems R 6.24 works in many wheres ... I put it on a friend's XDA and it works now (Egypt 900/1800) ... just wonder if it's wise to go for ROM 4.00.21 or keep the 4.00.11 .... I heared that you can't change the ROM after T-mobile ROMs ... is that true ?

As far as not being able to change ROM's after upgrading to a T-Mobile WM2003 ROM, it will still work but you must use the SD card boot loader upgrade method.

Help needed, this morning I flash my XDA with USA T-mobile Latest Radio Stack (Unofficial) but not working for my GSM 900. So I flash it back to O2 Latest Official Radio Stack RU 4.21 but it flash until 83% stop forever. So i do a soft rest. Then my XDA can't boot. Can someone help me out on this method? I'm in Malaysia. Using 900/1800 bandwidth.
Hi ...
If you have taken SD backup before upgrading, then go for bootloader menu, press Calendar button, and turn off the Radio part. Try to flash your XDA back to the original ROM and RSU, and then perform a hard reset.
In case you didn't, try the Qtek offical RSU 3.25 from http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific. It works good for Asian operators.
Good luck
Problem FIXED... Thanks for the big help.
ok fellas ...
i went from :
rom version: 3.17.03 ENG
rom date: 5/15/03
radio version : 4.17
to the upgrade :
rom version: 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US
rom date: 7/10/03
radio version : 4.17.00
courtesy of www.yorch.net
however the phone still can not pick up a signal ..
with upgrade i have not been able to switch GSM band from 900/1800 to 900 or 1900 successfully through the wallaby bootloader (after changes are made i can not get out of bootloader without doing a hard reset) also note the xda developers band switch tool is also present but reads error
also note
before the upgrade
my device model no. PW10A1
after upgrade
my device model no. PW10B1
not sure if im getting any closer to the solution but im still happy at this point i havent burned up the unit ...
perhaps it is still an issue of the radio version 4.17.00 (which is the only thing i havent fooled with yet)
any thoughts on trying the radio upgrades from www.yorch.net (under upgrades) ??
if this doesnt kill me it will surely make me stronger ... i will throw a party with beer for everyone if we can get this turkey running !!
thanks again folks !
Have you tried removing sim card prior to gsm switch in bootloader then reinserting after reboot?.

still no luck with it picking up a signal for the phone ... i have removed the sim ... and even switched between 900 and 1900 and still cant get a signal ...
any ideas? anyone ... please :?
It might be your SIM card so try it in another phone and see if it works.
If so try upgrading to the AT&T Radio stack its what I use.
HTH
i really cant believe it is the sim as it works fine in my other phone .. so i tried to do the radio uprade ...
from 6.24.01
to a.20.10
i was a bit skeptical as it is an at&t stack and i am using t mobile usa ..
dloaded it from yorch ... opened it in the windows directory of the xda as they say ... and it says something like upgrade failed.. press ok to restart
:?
says to be sure the path is correct and none of the files are missing ... perhaps there is something i am missing ...
also wondering how dangerous this radio upgrade is ... been reading some horror stories about others that have ruined their devices trying the upgrades .. but after all this is the 3rd rom ive installed so i figured what could a radio upgrade hurt ... anyways .. still no luck ..

Confirming you copied all of the below files to your Windows root folder
RSUpgrade.exe
RSUpgrade.cp64
monitor_ul_bs.map
monitor_ul_bs.m0
and the upgrade still failed with a be sure path is correct and none of the files are missing? BTW your old radio stack is still in tact since it failed in
this way. Just remove any leftover upgrade links from your Startup folder.
How dangerous is upgrading the radio stack you ask? Its the most dangerous upgrade you can do in my book and should be only do as a last resort in getting your phone to work.
Also I can understand why you're skeptical as to it being an AT&T radio stack, most are but its the most powerful radio stack to date in my book and I've used them all (US that is). Your device must really be in bad shape to knock it down!
BTW what part of the US are you located?

anyways im here on the east coast (nyc) .. lemme know if anyone comes up with anything else ... also wondering ... has anyone tried the upgrade from the siemens web site ?? i think it is something like A.20.17 .. im assuming it is a radio upgrade as well ?
question re. radio upgrades ..
is performing the upgrade by opening the exe file on the device standing alone the risky part? :? since upgrading the rom also has the radio upgrade within it and it is done while connected to the pc on the cradle with activsync perhaps that makes it safer ... ??

The A.20.17 upgrade contains both ROM and radio stack upgrade. The ROM is AT&T's most current Pocket PC 2002 update.
As far as the radio stack failure goes it can happen either way but its best not to have your device connected to the PC while doing it though!
HTH
Hey guys ...
The point is what is the actual type of the device A or B. Forget what's is shown in the device info as it can ve changed buy a wrong ROM or RSU upgrade. Refer to the device sticker in the device back side. If the device is A type then it's only 900 or 900/1800 type ... don't ever try to switch to any 1900 option as it may ruin the Radio part. If it's B then you can select the 1900 if your network supports this band. Don't forget also to switch it in the phone settings since now you have 4.01.00.
As Peter Poelman said, try to select the right band from the bootloader and soft reset more than once. Usually it takes many trials.
Good luck ...

Hi, has anyone figured out what the difference between the i-mate Radio v1.05.00 WWE and the v1.1.0.00 US is ?
Any one using the v1.10.00 outside the US ? Any problems or hints ?

hey,
As far as i know, the (1.10.00 radio version) is meant to be used only in the US, or at least on 850 networks. so i guess u can't compare these two.

I wonder if this will fix the problem some of us are having with the 1.6 ROM upgrade with not being able to re-connect to GPRS without a soft reset or switching flight mode on/off. Any thoughts?
to many drinks on my side!
This is a quote from the i-mate
ROM builds with radio versions 1.05.00 and 1.10.00 all include audio enhancements for voice calls. They also contain the improved camera driver. We are working hard to deliver these new builds to our full suite of languages.
indicates PM10C, then the customer should upgrade with the North American JAM ROM Build.
If the model number indicates PM10A, then the customer should upgrade with the Generic Worldwide English ROM Build. You will not be able to install the North American JAM (850) ROM. This WWE build does not include the connection settings for the US operators found in the North American build, though these are all available to download separately from clubimate™.

PapaDocta, how did you install it?
Do the usual, unzip and delete all .nbf's except radio.nbf?
Or is it more complicated?
thks all for sharing experiences, just managed to upgrade (only) radio rom to 1.10 (the JAM USA one). I used all the files except the NK_ , the ms_ and maupgradeut which I replaced with the maupgradeut_NOID that I downloaded from the ftp. USB connection in Activesync was disabled and I put my mini in bootloader mode before the upgrade...... and it went smoothly.
My network is also 900 and it works just fine.
Signal strength, comparing to 1.05 is the same, only it seems that the GPRS icon is always shown (when it's available) which was not the case with 1.05
here ya go... and my way of upgrading was i didn't disable anything just run the maupgradeut_NOID once and the device went into the bootloader mode and i got the country error i ignored it and run maupgradeut_NOID again without resting the device.. and all worked but i advice using the above steps cuz it has been tested before...... here is the files you requested and i renamed the maupgradeut_NOID to maupgradeut so don't panic ;-)
enjoy
Thanks a TON for this! I installed on my S100 and the GPRS now works perfectly. I can connect and disconnect without having to turn flight mode off/on.

It depends on how you are upgrading. If you are using the files in the .rar file that Papa posted then you need to run MaUpgradeUT.exe and it will put your device in Bootloader mode. Once you get the country ID error, I closed that window and ran MaUpgardeUT.exe again and the upgrade went flawlesly. Hard Reset to get out of BL mode and set your device back up.
Hope this helps...

if you want u can just backup ur data... cuz afte u upgrade the device will auto hard rest.... and you can use it on O2 XDAII mini shouldn't be a problem.....
if you don't have problems with ur current radio then don't upgrade... if you just curious then go for it.
good luck
Thanks papadocta.
Well, I am curius
Beside, I hope 1 extra bar signal strength (that reported by those upgraded to 1.05.0 WWE and 1.10.0 USA) will save my O2 XDA II mini's battery longer.
Is it correct that 1.10.0 USA is newer than 1.05.0 WWE? Because I read somewhere is not always true. Anyone can confirm?
Thanks again.

I have a strange problem. For no reason my O2 Mini S soft resets iteself. Any clue why this happens and how I can prevent it? Thanks.
Update the rom if it is a pre-aku2 rom. The older roms had a habit of doing this.

Thanks for the tip. Now this is what scares me have read some horror stories and some nice ones after ROM updated... so I am still thinking... :?:

Should be a straight update if you use the latest o2 rom, no need to unlock your device if you know your never going to use non-o2 roms. V unlikely to have a problem if you go down this path.

I dont know how close these phones are to one another, but I have the SX66 and for the last week or so, it just out of the blue, will soft reset itself... It is Very frustrating... I have even done a hard reset back to factory specks,,, and it still does it...
I am totally lost here.

Ok. Thanks for the confidence. I have downloaded the O2 ROM from their UK site, and currently my ROM says: ROM 1.1.7.5/Radio Ver: 01.08.10/ Protocol Version: 4.0.13.18/ExtROM Version: 1.1.7.105. I think this is a German O2 because the keys on the keyboard are of that layout. So will it be a problem if I upload a ROM from the UK site? Thanks.
On your device check settings\device info. If your rom ends in WWE then that is english then the one from the uk site will be fine. If it ends in GER then you need the german rom from the german o2 site.
Ok but...
OK but I don't see any of those abbreviations next to any ROM number... In anywhere else I can check? Thanks.

I have not found anywhere else. But if your menus are in english it will be a WWE rom. Keyboard layout may be german but can be changed afterwards by a reg tweak if its a problem.

Successful Upgrade but...
I did successfully upgrade to the UK version of the O2 ROM Ver. 2.21, but not there is a strange problem sometimes the phone just hangs after going on standby, I can see the greenlight blinking for the phone signal but it wont come back on when I press the power button. I have to remove the battery and then it restarts. Any solution to this problem or is it a bug? Thanks.
