Hi!
Has someone a solution / configuration for to get windows working with xda2 as a modem?
i'm pretty sure it works as a bluetooth modem without any software
Using XDA as a modem to your PC
VIA BLUETOOTH CONNECTION & GPRS:
If your PC does not have an integrated Bluetooth connection, you must first install a Bluetooth dongle (USB to Bluetooth) on your PC, with the related software (widcomm or other)
Open on your PC in the Control Panel the Phone and Modem Options
Choose Modems, pick the Bluetooth Modem, then click on Properties
Click on Advanced tab
Type in Extra Initialization commands:
AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”xxx”,””,0,0
where xxx is your internet access point.
Now click on the Bluetooth icon of XDA, and choose Discoverable mode
On your PC:
Click on Bluetooth icon (My Bluetooth places)
Click Bluetooth Setup Wizard.
Choose I want to find a specific Bluetooth device …
After a search period, an icon of your XDA is displayed (usually with your owner’s name): double click for settings
From the Dial-up Networking Links, click on SSA
SSA settings:
Modem: Bluetooth Modem
Number to dial: *99#
User name and password, according to Network provider
Yes it works. Im using my cradle/usb connection though and not bluetooth. I am browsing the net for free and using msn for free!! what I dont get is that why, as im using o2s settings, can i access msn via my laptop using my gprs modem, yet i cant access msn using my xda2. I know they both using the same ports! 8080...bloody weird? Or is there something else which affects the connection to net via laptop than there is connecting to gprs via xda2 connection inbuilt. Any ideas?
Drivers needed
Could please anyone post the drivers to use the HTC Himalaya as a gprs modem on my notebook.
I've lost the T-Mobile CD.
QTEK m100/i mate jam
I have been trying without success for two whole evenings to make this htc device act as a wireless usb modem for my sony viao laptop. I downloaded the USB modem dialler utility that is referred to in the sites, and when I physically connect with the USB cable and turn on the wmodem utility on the qtek then it will connect through GPRS and that is a workable if wirebound solution. However, if I disconnect and close the dieler utility, (which doesnt install, it just exe's everytime you open it) I have to fully reboot the laptop before it will connect again.
Using windows to detect the bluetooth modem results in it spotting 3 bluetooth modems, only one of which is available to "query". Using the Vodafone connect (PC) software, (which works with my old sony ericsson t610), with the newly installed bluetooth modem results in an"AT command not supported" failure message. It does this with or without the GCDCONDetc initialisation string in the modem's advanced settings.
Has anyone got a simple HTC bluetooth modem driver or any better ideas? This is driving me bananas.
Thanks
Appologies in advance for the daft question. I was wondering if its possible for me to configure my Wizard as a gateway to the internet?
From my Wizard, once I've established a GPRS connection I can browse/surf the internet, but I'd like to be able to connect with my PC and browse the intenet.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance and once again, sorry for the newb question.

I won't have a Wizard. But, let me guess
Try switching on your Wizard IR and point it to your PC. It things goes well, your PC should say some hardware detected.. and it should have a modem class hardware, which should enable you to connect to the net. Try fiddle with it. That is what's on offer from my SonyE phone.
Is it possible to make a connection through usb cable?
jep, you can use youre wizzard als a gprs modem for youre laptop.
start with going trough
[start]
[programs]
[modem link]
plug in the usb on bove sides (wizzard and pc)
youre pc will find a new deviece.
Insert youre cd from t-mobile with applications. On that cd is also a set of drivers for the wizzard modem function. (just tell windows to search the cd the rest will be done automaticly)
go to connections on youre pc.
create a new connection.
make sure it's pointing to youre new added modem (wizzard).
use for the phone number *99#
have a little patience and wola youre welcome on the world wide web.
ps if you are dutch try this post on a dutch forum which is maybe more clear

Both IrDA and USB will work as described above. IrDA, on the other hand, is not the way to go if you have EDGE - IrDA's maximal 115 kbps is slower than the maximal about 175 kbps of EDGE.
If you have Bluetooth support in the notebook, you will want to read this tutorial on setting up the Wizard as a Bleutooh modem: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=510&more=1
"Modem link" worked a treat - thanks!
For Vodafone Australia, I needed to send the following init string
"at+cgdcont=1,"IP","vfinternet.au"

Pity the GPRS counter doesn't work!
Any Drivers for OSX for my powerbook?
Interesting topic...
is there similarly a way to use WiFi from the Wizard on a laptop, via IR or USB?
Couldn't get this to work while recently at a hotel where the laptop couldn't see the hotspot anywhere in the room, but the wizard could see it everywhere in the room! =)
No.
What you need to do that is known in the Winblows world as "Internet Connection Sharing", or "ICS", and its not in the WinCE build. At all.
Going the OTHER way however - having your Windows laptop serve up the GPRS connection to a whole host of other machines on an ad-hoc Wifi network - that DOES work!
HI there i donot have modem drivers in my cdrom. Please if any one can post the drivers file on this page it will help a fellow pda user a lot.
Thank you very much in advance.
Here you go, enjoy. Tried it and I got 150 - 175 kbs at www.dslreports.com/mspeed @ 200k and 600k tests. Granted it was at 12:37 a.m. and not a big load on the network cause everyone is probably asleep.
Hmm, becuase of this, now I want to sell off my unlocked sierra 775 edge card because it's of no use to me now. Man I love this phone more and more!
Cheers,
Mike
Hi all,
I am able to use my MDA Vario as modem for my laptop connecting the MDA Vario via USB but when I connect I do not see the GPRS connection on my MDA Vario connecting or being used so a big G stands in the top of my screen instead of a G with two arrows below it.
I use as modem settings:
Dial number *99#
Extra initialization command +CGDCONT=1,"ip","internet","",0,0
Is GPRS used now?
If not how can I configure the MDA Vario or modem on my laptop in such a way that is use GPRS?
I think the "G" icon does not change even if it is connected.
in the modem setting replace the word " internet " with your providers GPRS setting,
in the case of t-mobile it will be " internet2.voicesream.com"
and that's it!
When I change "internet" into "internet2.voicestream.com" I am not able to connect at all and when I have this setting set to "internet" I am able to connect and use my MDA Vario as Modem.
The only thing I am very interested in is how do I know if I am using GPRS or normal modem as connection? This because I have a GPRS abo and I do not want to use my normal phone abo for modem connection.
Does anyone know if the internet setting is OK and how I can see if GPRS is used?
Thanks.
yes, that I know it will use the GPRS or EDGE conection, It is only convinient if you have an unlimited data plan.
I dind't notice that you where in the us, look up in you photo what you use to connect to your GPRS setting, and then use the same onenceon the computer in the HTC modem window.
internet2.voicestrem.com is only for the unlimited data plan in the USA with T-mobile..
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
this is a link with some setting
The page you have mentioned http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html mention to use internet-act for settings in modem and I am not able to connect using internet-act. I only use internet as setting in initialization string and I can connect.
I am located in the Netherlands and I assume that this is the correct configuration to use my MDA Vario as modem for my laptop and connect via GPRS. Will see on my next bill. .

just upgrade to WM6 and use the Internet Sharing function which is infinitely better than the Wireless Modem utility
I have a Ipaq 4700 and have managed to pair it up with my Vario II and able to go online and browse with the Ipaq but will I be charged as I havent entered any dial up number or selecting bluetooth modem, is this using a differnt connection as to the web&walk? maybe wap instead of 3g ? I dont fully understand these diffrences so I'm not to sure
I have sussesfully used it as a usb modem for my laptop for awhile and everythings ok there, as the laptop conection dials *99# and uses the web&walk.
Thanks for any advice, Chris
