Dear XDA developers,
after having search on all msg and tried all the possibility I couldn't find an appropiate answer, I'm now therefore desperate for some help...
I built the serial cable using the cradle connector as detailed from Andrew Farrell in "Cradle Mods" topics ( http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60) using the following wiring combination:
XDA Con2 RS232
2------1st-----5
8------4th-----2
10-----7th-----3
I set the XDA in BootLoader mode and launched Manipulator but it sits on "scanning" and nothing is happening.
Using HiperTerminal the PC receives all the "InitDebugSerial" information from the XDA but seems like XDA do not receive signal from the PC.
On the PC there is no Active Sync (I never performed it) neither Nokia application and I "killed" all the applications that could possibly keep COM1 busy (I'm receiving anyway the info from XDA so COM1 should be open).
Not setting the bootloader mode, the XDA recognize a connection coming from the PC and begin attempting to connect (therefore the XDA also receive from the PC).
Any suggestion that would help me in the final unlocking?
My XDA is a 4.16, wallaby 5.15
Not using windows XP.
Thanks in advance!!!

((Please note that the pin on con2 as specified from Fud in the post "Making a serial cable?!?!" are not correct: pin 8 (txd) on XDA is the 4th from left on con2 and not the 5th.
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=373))
Try connecting XDA pin 6 to 9-pin pin 4 and then try XDA 11 to 9-pin pin 6 or pin 1.

No luck
I have now connected all rs232 pin as described below but XDA Manipulator still sits on "scanning" and nothing is happening.
I connected first:
XDA--Con2--RS232
2 (gnd) 1st 5 (gnd)
8 (txd) 4th 2 (rxd)
10(rxd) 7th 3 (txd)
and then:
XDA--Con2--RS232
6(dcd) 2nd 4 (dtr)
7 (cts) 3rd 7 (rts)
9 (rts) 5th 8 (cts)
11(dtr) 8th 6,1 (dsr, dcd)
I double tested all the connections and looked for possible short cut but everything is ok. I can see the XDA on the PC using HiperTerminal but can't send any command.
I have never performed ActiveSync yet on this XDA (I bought 2nd hand from UK), could this be a reason?
Is there a way to check that XDA connector is working 100%?

I finally managed to unlock my XDA, now I can truly say to be a proud XDA mobile owner in Italy! ;-)
[was "Serial cable using craddle: having problem with Manipulator"
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=633]
I was too excited to wait for the delivery of a serial cable from the States and I tried to use the cradle circuit (to open it you need a special screw driver to lift the 4 screw hidden underneath the 4 rubbers).
*** IF YOU ARE NOT AN EXPERT DON'T USE THIS SYSTEM ***
you could seriously damage the cradle circuit and XDA!! Not jocking....
I connected the wire of the 9pin rs232 to the beige connector on the cradle circuit as follow (please note that the connection of only the first 3 lines below didn't work for me):
[Con2 is the beige connector, pins are counted form the left facing it]
XDA-----Con2---RS232
2 (gnd)---1st--- 5(gnd)
8 (txd)---4th--- 2 (rxd)
10(rxd)---7th--- 3 (txd)
6(dcd)----2nd--- 4 (dtr)
7 (cts)----3rd----7 (rts)
9 (rts)----5th----8 (cts)
11(dtr)---8th----6 (dsr, dcd)
Note that the last connection really made the difference for me (thanks XDA Dev. Peter Poelman!!).
I experienced problems when using Manipulator with my Notebook, it was just sitting on "scanning" mode looking for the com port...
Using HyperTerminal I could receive from XDA but not able to send command.
I eventually tried Manipulator with my desktop PC and... GOT IT!!! The com port has been found in 4 second, and after having pressed on "unlock" I was UNLOCKED in less then 1 minute!!! Yippiieeeeee!
Still don't know if the problem was:
- XDA with low battery charge
- a false connection on the serial cable
- or a problem with my notebook
But this is not important anymore now ;-)
Thanks a lot to all XDA-Developers for the great job with Manipulator and for this great forum!
Hope this msg will make life easier also for some new XDA user.

You can have problems with rs-232 on laptops for the following reason.
a 'real' RS-232 voltages of 12v (+&-). Some laptops just procude 5V levels and if the other side stricktly implements RS232 it just will not work. To come back to your list: I doubt if it was the battery charge. You could argue wether it was a 'false connection' or a 'problem' with your notebook' but in a way the last two were right.
For RS232 the advice is always to first use it on a desktop system before using a laptop.
It's a great mod and thanks for the description.

@mav2

i have been strugling for 2days with the pin outs shown in page ''connecters''.i make 3cables with different pinout but does not work,
then i read ur post and thought,no harm to give it a try,,,,,and u know,,it works like a MAGIC .......good.
thanks and thanks again, for sharing ur experience.
and for the mods of this forum..plz put these correct and easy pinout on their page ,without getting involved in hassel ,for male or female connector.
any way i found this forum very helpful with very nice pplz.

pervaiz.
I have a XDA II with WM2K3SE ROM v2.06.00 and it's suddenly stopped working with A/Sync.
Every machine I try to connect the device to, it gets recognised as "unknown device". If I try connecting using mtty, I get "\\.\WCEUSBSH001 port can not open". Am I right in thinking the serial connector is bust?
Hi, wonder if you can help..
I got my MDA into bootloader mode by pressing power + centre button + reset.
It comes up with serial on the screen and a version number 1.6
My serial cable i bought is meant for an xda or xda II which i also have, but the phones are practically identical, the MDA is a PH10A
The xda is a PH10C
when trying to detect the serial connection which is on COM 1 (not USB) nothing happens, ive also tried the XDA Manipulator program from this forum and that also will not work.
I want to upgrade my software but am stuck.
I do not know if the Serial connections are different for these 2 phones, or if i have missed something.
Is there any other programs i can use to access my MDA? or can anyone help me with this draining problem.... ????
Guess you can see that I am a newbie here!
My XDA II connector is dodgy and active sync only works via IR & Bluetooth.
Can I upgrade to Windows Mobile 5 this way - when trying to upgrade via IR the Upgrade software asks to make sure the XDA II is in the cradle.
All I can do with the cradle is charge my XDA II - and the upgrade stops before progressing asking to check the connections.
Something tells me the upgrade will only work via the cradle to PC (USB).
Anyone out their advise me......................

Hey
I have an x10i and until yesterday i had no problems with it. I cannot connect my phone to the pc and it only charges after 7 seconds from connecting it to the usb. When i connect it to the pc it takes 7 seconds and then shows that it charges but i dont have anything in the notification bar about mounting the usb.
I tried connecting it to another computer but its the same and i cannot flash it using pc companion nor seus cuz it cant be identified even in flash mod.
Ps. The pc does not show any notification that it is connected. Pls help and if this thrad is already there please tell me because i searched and couldn't find it.
Cheers

Try running usbdeview and remove anything related to semc. Take your batter out for 10 seconds, put it back in, switch on the phone and reconnect.
Sory for being a noob but where is semc. Is it on the mobile? Or should i remove it from the pc?

On the computer, download and run the run program, it's pretty self explanatory.
I think your micro usb is broken. Mine does exactly the same thing. It is only connecting on the two prongs that charge and not the two for data transfer. There is no fix I am getting a replacement as thousands of others have done as this is a common problem. See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777721
But id was working before the pc restarted
