Hi, i searched and couldnt find anything... I just installed ubuntu and have been dual-booting with windows Vista for several weeks now. My question is im a windows (redheaded step)child and im not too familiar with linux' inner workings yet...so i have not been doing anything to "safely remove" my G1 when in ubuntu, cuz i thought that such an option doesnt exist...problem is now i think ive corrupted all my data on my SDcard and i was just hoping that someone could tell me how to do this correctly in ubuntu? Do i hafta mount it, and THEN unmount it before i should unplug it? I dont even know if this is the problem, but ive been watching my logcat and it gives me some Dbus error when i plug in USB and it doesnt come up on the phone with option to mount SDcard, and windows doesnt recognize my device anymore. Pretty sure i corrupted my SD, im pretty sure i can fix it without help, if someone could just tell me the proper procedure for removing devices from ubuntu? thanks in advance...

I dual boot ubuntu on my mac OSX, which emulator are you using (fusion VM, virtualbox etc...?)
(1) When you've properly mounted your SD card it should show up on your ubuntu Desktop. Just go to Places > Desktop and you should be able to eject the SD card (two if you are partitioning them and AppstoSD) by pressing the "eject" button. The SD card should show up in the left window pane.
(2) Also, you probably have corrupted your SD card and are going to have to reformat it, losing all of your data.
(3) Somewhere in your emulator there should be a USB button to see which devices are plugged into your host computer, and which ever one you select your emulator will read.
(4) Finally, you don't provide enough information for a real answer...
(a) What ubuntu are you running?
(b) Do you have appstosd?
(c) have you done a nandroid backup?
(d) Which emulator/virtual environment are you running?
Hope this helps.
In Nautilus (the file manager) there will be a little orange eject symbol next to the drive. Clicking it will unmount the drive, which you should ALWAYS do before pulling any kind of removable media out of the socket. Unmounting is the *nix equivalent of "ejecting" in Windows.
If you're running a command line setup, the command to unmount is
Code:
sudo umount /media/(insert mount name here)
Hope that helps!
I too dual boot and noticed they i wouldn't get the "usb connected" on the G1. After some tweaking a few options; i noticed I would get the USB connected IF my usb debugging was ON. [settings- applications- developement- usb debugging]. I have to check for Ubuntu and uncheck for windows. I hope that helps
you see the problem is that ive never actually mounted my G1 in ubuntu, i just plugged it in to charge...so i never had to unmount it and theres no "safely remove" function, that i could find, so i figured that linux was just secure enough that it didnt require safely removing devices....oops...in answer to your questions, first im not running any VM...im ACTUALLY dual-booting. i have windows vista and ubuntu Jaunty running side-by-side, on a compaq presario f700. I DO have USB debugging ENABLED, and right now im running JF1.42rc33 still, im prolly gonna be wiping and upgrading to SOMETHING today, i was kinda just holding off cuz i like my theme, but my phones f-in up so nows as good a time as any to start fresh. I dont use a2sd, just my caches for market, browser, and maps are on sd. Ive been having trouble on my g/f's hp Pavilion pc running windows vista...we both have g1's and HERS is stock, unrooted, and she just got the OTA a couple days ago, since then the computer has been hating on MY phone, it says the drivers screwed and it wount bring up the option on my phone to mount the sdcard. hers still works fine, and mine still works fine hooked up to my laptop, just not hers...so i dunno if THATS a cupcake issue or if its cuz i didnt remove it from ubuntu right...im gonna format my sd AND wipe my phone, and ill get back to you guys moentarily, thanks for all your replies.
-BMFC
If all you were doing is charging, and you didn't mount it, then your original assumption was correct. You don't need to unmount something that was never mounted.

ok well then somebody help me out with this: i have tried for two days to get my sdcard to format, and IT JUST WONT. I cant get it to even be recognized by my girlfriends computer, but her G1 running UNrooted TMOCupcake still works fine, kinda makes me wonder if hers didnt get some kinda updated driver packed with it? The cupcake, i mean, not the phone...i dunno. Anyways my phone WONT mount in ubuntu at all, it shows up but when i try to mount it it says "No media on Volume" and wont open it at all. so in windows it ACTS like its doin everything i want it to do...i tried to format my sd yesterday and i sat here and watched it the whole time, and when it finshed it said: "Format Completed SUCCESSFULLY." so i SAFELY REMOVED IT, unplugged and plugged back the usb, and when it came up EVERYTHING WAS STILL THERE!!!! my problem seems to be my sdcard/doom folder...it tells me that the folder \doom is ENTIRELY UNREADABLE.
ahem...on a side note, all these things happened at once...(same day)
1. My g/f got the OTA cupcake update...
2. I updated some apps from the market, the one that im suspecting right now is called "Cards(-)" by Coderminus. After i updated it, i went to play Doom, and instead of playing like usual, when i hit the "Play" button, it just exitted to home. So i checked my logcat and the Cards(-) app caused ALL KINDS of runtime errors, and so i uninstalled this app.
3. My market starts crashing all of a sudden. I cleared the cache and it SEEMED to fix it...for now.
4. Uninstalled Doom (ver. 1.29.666) and then went and deleted my doom folder.(I thought) Reinstalled newest version of Doom (ver. 1.31.666)
5. Tried to redownload the WADs to play, and i could get it to play, as long as i didnt try to download the sound files. Everytime i tried to get the sounds, it would act fine, but then when id go to play the game itd just exit to home again....
6. Repeated step 5. like 6 times....
This was all like 2 days ago? 3 days ago? and ive been messing with it ever since, and my PHONE is fine, but my SDCARD appears to be, for lack of a better term, ****ED. i cant even format it, ive tride 3 times, it just all comes right back when i plug it back in...i even tried to put an update.zip in my sdcard and update from JF1.42RC33 to (I was gonna try Dude's 1.2b) so i put that in there, and removed it and when i went into my file manager on the g1, the update wasnt there! i cannot seem to be able to make ANY changes to my sd...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Try ti format your card from within your phone. Unfortunately that's the only issue I can help you with.
Edit: try doing a system wipe on your girlfriends phone from the recovery menu. It should solve the crashes. You will wave to reinstall all your apps tho.

I...didnt even know that was possible...im not seein any options to do that...you know some terminal commands for that or somethin? Cus when i got into my file manager (i use aFile, cuz it has wireless transfer) i cant even delete anything from there, ANY folder i try to delete it just says "Failed to delete (folder name)"...so if you know how to do that then hook me up and ill try it...
-BMFC
EDIT: i think you misunderstood, THERE'S NOTHING WRONG with my girlfriends phone...its just that she got the US OTA and it happened at the same time as all this other, so i thought maybe it might have had some effect on how mine interfaces with her comp...honestly i doubt it, but until someone tells me im wrong im not ruling it out...
On your phone Goto your settings menu, sdcard and phone memory, unmount your card and then select format
No dice, seems you may be on a diff. ROM than me, i dont have that option, i unmount the card, and thats all that happens, it unmounts it...no format option...
-BMFC
Damn that sucks. Does your girls phone have that option? I wish I could help you out. But I'm at a loss
Sdcard IMPOSSIBLE TO FORMAT....need ADVANCED help!!!
hi i posted a thread here for help, and i did so cuz i need help from someone INTELLIGENT. The mods have now moved my post to the "General section" of the dream forum, where i cant get **** for help. The reason i didnt just post in that section, where it goes, is CUZ NO ONE CAN OR WILL HELP ME OVER THERE....i need a devs help or somethin...THATS why i posted in the dev section...cus its pointless to try to get support from end users...i might as well just sit in the bedroom with NO COMPUTER asking MYSELF what the answer is...so first off id like to thank the AWESOME mods here for burying my post head-high in a section that i cant get any support in, EVER. THEN, id like to ask some dev(s) or SOMEBODY, SOMEBODY INTELLIGENT, please go to
this thread
and read, and im BEGGING you for help!!! To whoever helps me figure this out i would gladly donate to WHATEVER cause you have!!!! Honestly, if you ONLY read MY posts, you wont miss anything important, except some guy with the SAME SKILL LEVEL AS ME telling me to wipe SOMEBODY ELSES PHONE and see if that works...****.
SOMEONE PLEASE try to help me out before the AWESOME mods here at xda move this post, too. Im not sorry im posting in the wrong secrtion cuz this is where the help is and thats REALLY what i need right now. So MODS, you can move my posts all day long, ill just make a new one linking to the old one till i get some support...suspend me...BAN me, i dont care, ill just keep coming back with new usernames and accounts until i get some help, cuz THATS WHAT THE F*CK SUPPORT FORUMS ARE FOR. Im really pissed at whatever mod moved my post, cuz the SECOND i posted that thread initially, i got like 4 or 5 replies, thats why i LOVE this forum, cuz it has GREAT SUPPORT, when you can actually get your question seen by a dev, that is. but as soon as my post got moved i got several replies from one DUMBASS that was TRYING to help, and ill give him that he was just tryin to help, but i have a problem with my phone, and this guy tells me i should WIPE MY GIRLFRIENDS PHONE. WOW. Just wow. Someone please go read my problem and post there, or post here, with some answers....MODS PLEASE DONT MOVE THIS THREAD I AM TRYING TO GET SOME HELP!!!!

yea *****ing like a 4 year old will you nowhere. no one owes you anything.
If you have a camera, try using that to format your memory card. Hope it works.
lol ok first off take it easy on the mods here, i'm speaking of your other post, they try to keep these forums clean and it isnt an easy job all things considered.
the way i see it you have 2 options.
1. Throw your card in a digital camera and use the camera to format it. I works most the time when a computer wont, several times my pc wouldn't recognize/format a card but my ****ty digital camera had no problem.
2. if that doesn't work, splurge the $8.99(or less) it costs to get a new sd.
I've even seen 8gig class 6 cards for around $20 and 4gig class 4 cards for $10.
edit: wow just a min too late
So I have browsed the forum religiously to figure out how to fix this problem, and cannot even understand what to do, as I am just a phone reseller and never messed with these.
Anyways, bought the phone with a custom android rom, sold it on ebay, and the person said it was working and he somehow messed it up to the point where its stuck on the colored screen.
The phone connect to the computer fine. I followed this link to try and fix it
"the unlockr .com/2010/04/22/how-to-get-the-htc-hd2-back-to-stock/"
and no go.
There has to be a way I just know it.
My problems are I have no idea how to add files to the SD card, or where to even get half of these files people are talking about.
If someone would not mind helping me out I am willing to paypal them money if they succesfully help me. We can do it over the forum or I could give you my phone number to quickly assist.
I am serious in the money. like I said I dont use HTCs. I am an iPhone person, and just dont know how to function it. I am very tech literate so I promise it will be easy to walk me through this! Thanks in advance

Mate,
ok Step 1. Get the serial number off the back of the phone and write it down.
Step 2. Identify if its a T-Mobile version or if its not.
Step 3. If it is your outta luck i have no experience with those Roms currently.
Step 4. If it isn't a T-Mobile and is a normal HD2 you need to download a new Rom
Step 5. Go to http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=2&dl_id=1088
Step 5. Enter the serial number at the bottom of the page.
Step 6. Download the utility to your desktop.
Step 5. Turn the HD2 on to the 3 coloured screen your recieving
Step 6. Connect the USB Cable to your Phone and Computer.
Step 7. Select & Run the utility you just download.
Step 8. Press next until you recieve an do not touch your phone screen.
Step 9. Follow the final instructions on the page and you should have a fully functioning phone after it restarts.
If you don't mind paying service $35AUS + shipping i can do this process for you.
it is tmobile...
Couldnt I just get a tmobile rom.
Or even just flash another custom rom onto it?

If you have a T-Mobile HD2, it will say T-Mobile on the top of the screen and have a red end button and a green send button. Anyway if you have a T-Mobile HD2 then go to here and download the LEOIMG,nbh file. When you download it extract it from the zip format and then copy the file to the root of a 4 gig or smaller SD card freshly formated with Fat 32, preferably the only thing on the SD card.
To format the SD card use a SD card reader and then click on start>computer>right click on the SD card and select format.
Put the SD card into the HD2 and hold the volume down button down while powering on the HD2 and wjhen you see searching let the voloume button go and follow the on screen instructions.
Send me a PM with your number and I will walk you through the process of flashing via SD card or by using the Custom RUU I have attached below.
You will have to create a folder and extract the custom RUU to that folder then place the LEOIMG.nbh file in the folder but rename it to RUU_signed.nbh. Then put your HD2 into bootloader (hold volume down button down while powering on the HD2) and connect it to your computer via USB cable. Wait for the Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB and then open the folder you created and right click on the custom RUU and select run as administrator. Then follow the instructions of the ROM Update Utility.
You also need to have ActiveSync (Windows XP) or WMDC (Vista and Windows 7) installed on your computer as they have the USB drivers you need. Go to here to get the one you need aqn install it.
I formatted a card using fat 32. Put the leoimg.nbh on the card, and put it in the phone. It got past the bootloader screen asked if I wanted to update image I did, it said update complete and did nothing else from there.
Took the battery out, and same thing happend again. How do I get the phone to work now?

So it booted right back to bootloader?
If this is so like I said in my PM I just sent to you, the volume down button is probably stuck in the down position.
Also if it said update complete then the ROM did flash.
I have an HTC HD2. I'd like to run Android so I can use the Intuit credit card processing software....
I'm looking for simple, idiot-proof, acronym-free instructions on finding and installing a current, stable, functional Android...
I'm sure the folks that hang out here all the time know what all the acronyms are, but I'm a touch baffled... I figured out "sd" means the SD card in the phone. But, "NAND", "CWM" "MAGDLR", and some of the arcane terminology is confusing, and I don't know what I NEED to know and what I can safely ignore...
So, I can guess and pick some Android installation (it appears there are dozens of notes touting competing versions) but it would be simpler if someone in here can recommend something for a computer literate user that doesn't want to be a cell phone O/S expert...
Recommendations?

Not to sound ungrateful 'cause I'm sure there's a lot of useful information in there somewhere, but this is exactly why I'm requesting something idiot-proof...

Why am I flashing anything?
What is hspl 2.09 and why would I need it?
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
and what rom am I selecting?
and on and on......
OK, so I presume the above is either a test or a bit of humor at the uninformed observer's expense (that'd be me)...
So, can I have all this translated from phone geek to dumb end user now?
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish, so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone...
my question, did you read the links? i mean really really read them? not just click and say "oh ****, that's a lot of text, i need help?" trust me....read them...then read them again...then read it again. it will start to make sense. your questions--
best read for a lot of your questions (besides what was posted above):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
Why am I flashing anything?
- you said you wanted android. technically you could use an sdcard rom, but he was just trying to give you what you asked for. guess the question should be why are YOU flashing anything?
you should ask - do i want windows mobile and android, only android (get rid of windows mobile all together) or windows phone (wp7) and android. only then can we point you in the right direction.
What is hspl 2.08 and why would I need it?
- read my thread above!!!!!! cuz you can't flash android without it (this is a custom bootloader that allows your windows mobile phone to install magldr or clk which allows you to install android to nand - aka install android to your phone)
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
ignore the task 29 (i have never done this).
hspl4 will install hspl2.08 to your phone. this unlocks the bootloader. layman's terms - allows you to install magldr or clk to install android (or windows phone 7)
you need a particular radio to make this all work. that radio is 2.15. a radio is what allows your phone to make calls/data/etc. don't ask why this is, this is just the way it is. the radio your phone came with is likely different.
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
- cuz this allows you to install android. too small a partition, android won't fit. too large a partition, wasted space. just right partition = all good. you need to READ the rom thread to know what is the right partition.
and what rom am I selecting?
- you need to READ about the flavors of roms. there are a bunch. take one and try it. if it doesn't work, find another.
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish,
- yes, this is true
so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone
- beats me. but why not just try something? sdcard roms cannot in anyway hurt your phone.
now go read. and read. and read. and then experiment. good luck.
here is the best idiot proof way to get android on your phone. it is a winmo rom that has android already built in so you wont have to figure out what is what. its so easy even a cave man can do it.
Well, as usual, the secret to getting the right answer is asking the right question. And the trick to asking the right question is knowing most of the answer....
I didn't........
What I'd LIKE to do is have some current, fully functional version of Android available so I can process credit cards through my HD2 using a swiper. Over time, I may attempt to migrate other things to Android - like contacts and such. But initially, I'm just concerned about the CC processing.
So, as I understand what I want to do, putting Android on the SD card will work, and I just need to figure out which one of the umpteen versions is a good one. I'd like a home page that looks at least somewhat like my current Windows page. I"d like the buttons to continue to work as they currently do (as much as possible)....
I went out and started looking at the various SD Android versions here and selected the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one because of a reply in a previous note asking for a "good" Android......
Installed it, and it works fine, although I"m not particularly fond of the home page. Put the GoPayment application on, plugged in the swiper, and ran a charge.... Appears to work fine, so it solves my primary problem...
Now, since I've figured out I'd prefer to use an SD installation, and have one that works, is there a "better" one that I should try? One that looks and feels more like the Windows Mobile 6.5 I'm used to? Or, is there one that has a different look and feel, but some functionality that makes it superior to the others?
This ROM I'm about to recommend dates back to last November...
However, I have tried every SD ROM since that time, used them for either a few hours/days/weeks, and still always returned to this one. It is just flawless, albeit Android 2.2.
Just download it, throw the 'Android' folder into the SD Card, and run the two files (CLRCAD.exe which appears to do nothing, but does enable the sound, and then Haret.exe)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631&highlight=black+blue
If you decide to move off WinMob, then NANDs are good, but personally I just have a WinMob program which runs on boot and then executes those two files)
Enjoy!

do you like sense base builds or would you prefer 1 that doesn't have sense like cm7 or a miui ROM?
AmeriCanAndroid seems to be a favorite for a lot of people and is updated rather often but i personally like RafDroid HD found here. if you want to take a look at other android builds for the htc hd2 found here on xda check out this webpage. it will also give you some info about each ROM like the base, build, when it was updated & if it has sense or not. when you find one you want just click it & it will link you back to the page found on XDA.
Am I correct that "Sense" is the user interface used on the Windows Mobile HD2? If so, yes, I like it, but probably because I"m used to it. I'd have to try some different versions with different UIs to see what's most comfortable.
I'm currently running the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one I downloaded yesterday. The UI is enough different that it's taking a little getting used to.
I'll have to give the others you mentioned a try, and go look at the web page that shows the different builds. I"m amazed at how many there are.
Just for fun I downloaded the AmeriCanAndroid 08/1/11 version and put it on the SD card..... Tried to run clrcad.exe and got the "CLRCAD annot be opened" error. Tried haret and got the same error. Both say "Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found..."
So, am I missing something simple or is there a problem with this build? I found a couple topics in here about problems with clrcad but they seemed to wander aimlessly without any resolution...
I've now looked through a couple DOZEN topics over the last year with complaints of exactly the problem I'm seeing with clrcad and haret... I don't see a resolution in ANY of them......
Yesterday, copied the files onto the phone for the nexus gingerbread Android, ran clrcad and haret and was up and running.......
Now, I've tried three different builds, including reinstalling the nexus one, and NONE of them will run. I get the same error for clrcad and haret every time.
Shutting down the phone didn't do anything.
I figure there's got to be a simple, obvious answer sitting here but I'm not finding it.
sense for windows mobile & sense for android are two different things. i personally dont know of any android rom or app thats availible in the market that will give you a windows mobile look or feel. i would find a rom that you want and then try & find a video on youtube that matches it so you can see what its like before you go through all the steps to flash it.
did you unzip AmeriCanAndroid or did you leave it in a zip file? i have since moved to nand builds so im going from memory which is starting to fail me in my old age but i think it needs to be unzipped using something like 7-zip. i think you just put the android folder on the root of your sd card. there is a video in the thread that shows you how to do the install. you can find that here.
so you tried to re-install something that worked for you yesterday but now you cant install it again? how long did you wait because with some builds it can take as long as 10-15 mins to install everything correctly. could you give me the steps you took step by step to try to install AmeriCanAndroid? i think thats the only way i would be able to help.
Yesterday I downloaded the Android 7z file. Unzipped it on the PC and let it create an android folder with all the files. Plugged in the phone and copied the android folder to the root of the SD card on the phone. Ran clrcad and haret on the phone and IT WORKED PERFECTLY.........
Today, just to try one of the builds recommended in here I downloaded a different android. did EXACTLY the same thing - unzipped with a 7z unzip, copied it to an android folder in the root of the phone, ran clrcad and got the error. Ran haret and got the same error........
Cleaned off the android folder on the phone, rebooted, tried a soft reset, etc.
Copied the nexus android build from the PC to the phone - EXACTLY AS I DID YESTERDAY WHEN IT WORKED. Ran clrcad and got the error......
I don't know what's going on with the phone or the Android builds or what, but there are a LOT of entries here and elsewhere on the web about people having exactly this problem. And so far I haven't seen the answer that makes this problem go away......
My recollection is that I had EXACTLY the same problem about 6 months ago. Installed an earlier version of Android and after the first time I rebooted the phone I could never get Android to run again. Just got the same clrcad and haret errors...
So, SOMEBODY, what's causing this and how do I get rid of it WITHOUT having to do some hard reset the destroys everything on the phone?
Back up any data on you sd card you need (I.e. pics, vids, music, whatever you feel important.) Download the Panasonic sd formatter and format your sd card. Copy over the android folder that is in the 7zip that you have unzipped. You should be able to boot ok from there.

Formatted from the PC.
Installed the formatter on the PC. Formatted the SD card. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Copied the Android folder (the identical folder I copied yesterday) to the SD card, and STILL get exactly the same error from clrcad.....
Is this something that happens a lot? 'Cause so far, the two times I've had Android on this phone this has happened. And there are a LOT of topics out there with exactly this problem, and a lot of unsuccessful "do this" that don't appear to work. Does ANYBODY had a real fix for this? It worked perfectly 24 hours ago, now it doesn't. My BIG concern is that if Android is flaky and unreliable on the SD card I can't use this thing to do credit card processing if it's going to randomly fail and not be bootable.

So, SOMEBODY, what's causing this and how do I get rid of it WITHOUT having to do some hard reset the destroys everything on the phone?

your suppose to copy the unzipped android folder to the root of your sd card and not your phone. i think thats why your getting an error.
example: download rom and unzip using 7-zip. take the "Android" folder not AmeriCanAndroid from within that file and drag_drop or copy_paste to the root of your sd card. then using a file manager from within winmo go to the android folder & run clrcad and then haret. it should run fine. you can also use a program called Rundroid that automats some of the work. its a great app that will allow you to dual boot android but i think you might find it useful as well, you can find it here. RunDroid will allow you to run several android builds from your sd, not just 1.
fwiw, I can't (won't) say anything bad about any custom ROM offered on this board. My own favorite (to use) is a personal choice, which doesn't make it superior to any other - though it may be. It's just what I'm used to, what works for me and what I'm satisfied with.
Doesn't matter if you use a stock HD2 WinMo setup, or a custom WinMo ROM on your HD2. An Android SD build won't interfere with it. And so... (personally) I use AmericanAndroid (ACA). It IS used by a majority of folks for good reason. - BUT - I'm trying my best to be careful and clear with YOU that it may not be the best solution for you or anyone else in particular. We don't play favorites on this site for good reason! For me though... it is an extremely easy ROM to implement.
So you're having a bit of trouble with clrcad & haret... No Problemo.
Google is your friend... find and install under WinMo the 'exceller bootloader'. You'll boot WinMo... and then run Exceller. It will shut down WinMo and run clrcad & haret.
Make sure you've properly installed ACA on your SD card first. No need to partition your SD card. Make sure you're clear with the instructions on the first page and be sure to edit the startup.txt file (before installation) to change the LCD pixel density from 167 (default) to 240... unless you have eagle eyes or like tiny icons & text.
This is your simplest solution, and... get to know it a bit before you swap it for something that might (possibly) not be better. There's a reason a majority of users have chosen to use this Android build.
I'd wish you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with these things. Have fun with it! -Rob
Yes, EVERYTHING was copied to the Android folder OF THE SD CARD......
I have no problem installing yet another piece of software to (hopefully) get the necessary clrcad and haret files to run, but THIS WORKED TWO DAYS AGO. Without a bootloader or anything else. It worked.....
And yes, Google is quite effective. It showed me dozens of topics in forums where people complained of EXACTLY the problem I'm having. What it DIDN'T show me was a fix that didn't involve reformatting the SD card, REPLACING the SD card, doing a hard reset on the phone, and (this one I haven't seen before) installing a boot loader to hopefully get around the issue... BTW: all the above with the exception of the boot loader were tried by people with no success.
FWIW: I"m not criticizing any of the Android builds in here. I'm sure they're largely excellent, with slightly different flavors. And they represent a huge amount of work, of which I'm cognizant and appreciative.
I presume the problem is with Windows Mobile, NOT the Android builds, but it would be comforting to have somebody provide a solution to why it works when installed, and doesn't work after a reboot. Did all those other people that had the same problem do what I did six months ago and just give up on Android as being more work than it was worth? This isn't an isolated problem, there are dozens (and probably hundreds) of instances of people not being able to get Android to boot.
Anyhow, I"ll go find an exceller bootloader and try that. Hopefully, the thing is controllable so if things still fail I can get back to Windows...
I spoke too soon....... It's early here (having started this again at 04:00), and maybe my brain just isn't working yet, or it could VERY possibly be that I'm just too stupid to be allowed to mess with this whole thing, but I eventually found a copy of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB and downloaded it to the PC.
Then I went and found instructions on installing a cab file on the HD2. According to them I just COPY the cab file from the folder on the pc to My Documents on the SD card of the phone, then disconnect the phone from the PC, navigate to the folder, and click on the cab file.......
OK, sounds simple enough....... Did so.
Got a popup on the phone that said it was "Installing ..." At the bottom I got "The program is from an unknown publisher... Do you want to continue?"
So, I clicked YES...... Again, fairly idiot-proof........
And got "Installation of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB was unsuccessful."
Nothing else.... Just the message on a blank screen...
I"ll leave out the amount of screaming and swearing I"m doing at this point.....
IN MY INFINITE WISDOM, I replaced my build.prop with the one from a Motorola Xoom in an attempt to get Sketchbook Pro to show up in the market. Now my tablet is boot looping.
I backed the original up in the same directory, as build.prop.OLD. If I could mount system and replace the file with a PC, I'd imagine that the tablet would work again. How could I do that?
However, THERE IS ANOTHER COMPLICATION! I used the 'Acer Phone Disabler' app to remove the telephony drivers, which means that I cannot flash a rom or the tablet will brick. I'm not sure what this means for Nandroid backups.
The tablet has the leaked stock 3.1 rom installed, it's rooted, and it has Clockworkmod recovery.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Oh god.
I used ADB to pull my build.prop.OLD, renamed it to build.prop, and pushed it back. Now... the tablet boots up, and it shows the Android "Welcome" screen. Clicking the only button available doesn't work. It just highlights as if it is selected, and doesn't do anything when I lift my finger up.
I DO have a Nandroid backup from several weeks ago of the same rom, but from BEFORE I removed the telephony drivers. I am only going to try restoring it as a last resort; does anyone have any ideas? Remember, flashing a rom would result in a brick because I used Acer Phone Disabler. Is a nandroid backup safe?
Thanks guys. I'm really hoping this tablet isn't too screwed.
I'm hoping someone else chimes in here but I am under the impressing that the nandroid backup would override any changes you could make as long as you don't break recovery. As far as my experience goes if you had a backup of your current configuration you could do an "advanced restore" and only restore your "system"

Restoring just system worked! My homescreen is back to stock but all my apps are still installed, so I don't really care. Thanks a bunch, I was so worried.
COOL!!!
Glad I could help.

Help needed for a boot loop
Well as said in the video, i reuse an existing thread about bootloop...
I'm stuck in a bootloop with an iconia A500... but let's look at the steps that got me there...
The First mistake was to answer yes to my friend who asked me to connect his Vodafone k3565 to his iconia A500, but as i read Android was linux based and i did use linux a lot as a student, i didn't even imagine it could go wrong...
Tablet was stating to run :
Android 3.1
Bernel 2.6.36.3-00009-9dddf6f2
Build 4.015.05-EMEA-CUS3
i did root with iconia root 1.3
then added Busybox and a terminal program.
reboot, try a SU and could access the devices
Here is the second mistake... i should have wondered how to restore to normal state before starting, because i don't have any SD card that suit the device ( mine are normal sized ones, you know.. Stamp sized :/ )
Then i got to the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058846&page=7
and i used an usb key to transfer it to the device, but before applying the files i took a look to them and found 3 of them would overwrite actual system files, so i did a backup of them :
/system/build.prop
/system/etc/apns-conf
/system/bin/rild
and looking at the build.prop i saw differences in the values of the one on the A500 and the one in the package so i decided to get only the missing lines from the new system.zip file and add them to the original file
And here is the 3rd mistake, and i guess the reason of the problem : i did that merge on a windows computer, and i fear it did add those pesky CRLF at the end of lines, turning my build.prop into a build.prob(lem).
I'm not sure, as i didn't check before it was too late.
rebooted and... boot loop, with 1 times out of 2, the little android with yellow triangle and exclamaition mark.
Cried, runned in circles, then looked on forums to find a solution.
Reboot with Power+Volume gives :
"Erasing cache before SD update...
SD update cmd:recovery
--update_package=sdcard:update.zip
Booting recovery kernel image"
Then i get the android with gears for a few seconds, then below him is a bar like the one in the android store when you download a file, then half a second later, again the exclaimation mark.
I also tried plugging a keyboard to hit the home key...
( in fact two : Logitech G110 and trust easy scroll silverline )
no difference, maybe because those are gaming keyboards and they arent loaded soon enough by the tab, or maybe it crashes before keyboard loading.
Tried then to install ADB using post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664
hoping i could use the USB cable to put the backup files back in place but when i plug the device into the windows host, it recognises an unavailable USB MTP device, whose properties say "Acer iconia tab a500" in the "signaled bus description"(translated from french display, may be something else in english)
I manually force added the Acer ADB interface, but both the devices are unavailable to windows, with a warning sign, stating "this device cannot start (code 10)"
"Adb shell" answers "Error:device not found",which is expected, as windows can't see the devices properly
the strange thing is that, with USB plugged from A500 to PC, the Android with exclaimation stays forever, while without the cable, the system boot-loops
so i'm at this point :
i have a boot looping device, and the backup of the modified files on an USB key, and no way to put them back on device.
I found on the forums a lot of different .imgs that could be put on the /system to reload the device but none with EMEA-CUS3. So if i overwrite the files, i can't go back
I read you need a SD card to patch the device but not all of them work...
And my only computer with a SD slot uses a big one, not micro one, so i also need an adapter to write on the sd card.
Is someone near me (belgium/postcode 4000) having a SD ward working with the device who could lend it or help me doing the job ?
else
i saw in a nearby store ad "Sigma SDHC 4Go" or "Sigma SDHC 8Go", with apparently an adaptor for a normal sized SD slot, can anyone confirm it works or it don't work for sure ?
else
Can anyone tell me an SD card know to work, and being sold currently with an adapter so i have a chance to find one in a store near me ?
Is there a way to create an update.zip that will only update the files i did overwrite ?
if not, has someone an image for the same system i have ?
Well... lots of questions, but i'm very worried, especially as the device is not mine and not working anymore atm.
-> update
Looking closer at the modem (Vodafone k3565) it has a trap that says "SD card" so i guess i won't need an adapter... still need the reference of a SD card known to work for the restoring.
[bump] and more :
this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834144
lists working SD cards, but don't tell with which device. i'd take the guess it applies to the iconia A500 and take the list to the shop to see if anyone is available...
Did you install the Acer USB driver, found here? http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers
You might need to go into device manager after installing and right click/update drivers on the tablet, then manually direct it to the Acer driver folder. That's what I did, then ADB worked.

The reason "some" SD cards don't work is down purely to formatting. Normally, reformatting them in an Android phone sorts it out. Not always, but normally. Don't worry about the GEN3 stuff too much, it's just regional variations anyway... More important to get the tab working again, no?
Yes i did ( on 2 different computers, just to be sure )...
and still the device is not recognised as "adb device".
Windows shows a "USB MTP Device"
Tried to manually add the "ACER Composite ADB Interface" and "ACER Fastboot Interface" to the installed peripherals, it shows with yellow exclaimation mark, never shows up running.
Without any useable answer about one week later, i did buy a Traxdata 2Gb SD card with adapter ( the cheapest i found with an adapter from micro SD to normal SD ) and flashed with the Emea_Gen3 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878.
Now the tablet works, but is telling me 4.010.42-COM-GEN1 instead of the previous 4.015.05-Emea-Cus3.
Seems to work correctly, so i go on with the modem connexion.
can't seem to find any postings regarding the exact process on how to get my 8g internal SD back on my system that is why i ended up posting this. whenever i check it on the ideos, it is now disabled and it says unavailable. i also can't connect to my PC now via usb maybe because i don't have the internal SD. it happened when i try to partition my SD with Easyus Program in the hope that i may be able to install other programs into a more bigger space but then everything failed. I was already able to split it into 2 but i have slept over it and the next morning when i continued, i forgot where i have left last. i have tried to redo the whole thing all over again and started deleting the newly created partition and that was it. out of frustration and another hope that it might factory reset my unit in its original state and bring back my "unavailable SD". since then i can't get it back.
i have tried to browse all over here and also in other sites but there were no exact way how i will be able to get it available for use again. there are some that says i have to install the early android eclair version but there is just no place i can download that piece of os, not even on the huawei site. there are suggestions to use busybox and adb which i must admit that i have completely no knowledge of but willing to try if there will be guide to follow. the only problem on this way is my ideos7 can't communicate with my PC thru USB because of that missing internal SD card.
i hope somebody with a kind heart and knowledge can help me with this thing. i will surely appreciate it so much. this ideos is so dear to me and i just can't help to think the i ended up deleting its internal SD out of my stupidity.
thanks! you all have a nice day and continue enjoying your weekend.
details of my ideos7
it's a European Version, I guess this is the s7-104 with front camera only. It's running with the installed
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband: 504030
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-Ideos
Build Number: S7V100R001C98B021
I lost the rooting on the process and since then i can no longer have the way to root it back again because of the usb connection issue.
thanks again and hoping to get a big help from somebody out there.
UP
still hoping for anybody.
still hoping
for anybody who can help
Your problem, I think, has easy answer. You must to make a downgrade to android 2.1. In the huawei page you find the rom. in my case the problem is worse, my internal sd does not appear even as unavailable and i dont know to do.
regards
dead link
that's what i initially thought but all the links leading to this downgrade rom which is the 2.1 eclair, is already dead. i was lucky to find another but i see the fbi logo since it was the megaupload link. i have been looking for it even in the huawei site. everything is out already. i hope somebody out there has the Android 2.1 eclair that i can try. this i read from somewhere may be able to restore back my unavailable internal sd card.
thanks for reading and still hoping to get a copy or link for the android 2.1 eclair.
disregard all
i have found it already and it is back again. thanks a lot!
Same problem
I have the same problem as you. Can you send a link to the 2.1 eclair? I have searched for days...
1, the phone has root, and install better terminal emulator such as HyperTerminal simulation
2, in HyperTerminal, enter( su )
3, and so become the # sign, type ( dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 ). Other end of the run, maybe wait 5 minutes. Restart the phone.
4, into the "Settings" - "sdcard and storage", u can be formatted with the built-in sdcard
