ok...I'm really new to all this so please show a little patience towards me!
I was trying to load the XDA-developers-SER-v12 on my phone and just when it started with the progress bar moving at the top of the PPC screen, when it said "Do not Remove Device..." I accidently lifted the phone out of the cradle as dumb as I am...! After that I tried to hard start it by shoving a pin on the hole in the right side under the battery icon with the cross (hard-reset) and got the Bootloader 5.17 screen with the three colors and GSM (OK) there when I pressed the soft-reset and power buttons simultaneously.
But since I was the idiot and could not understand what was going on, as I was not in this forum nor even behind a computer, I reset it again and again a couple of more times. Now present situation; I have the same "Do not Remove..." screen everytime I do a hard or soft reset even if I keep the power on/off button pressed alongwith pressing the hot or cold boot buttons on the left and right corners respectively. In fact the screen has gotten badly distorted but the same "Do not Remove..." comes up in the totally distorted state on the screen and the Bootloader or the colors, nothing comes up anymore.
When I try to put the phone on the charger, the light goes orange just as if it is charging, in fact, after an hour or so, just as it normally would in the correct phone state, it turns green.
Is my phone toast or can I still do something about it?
Munz.
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that if there is a complication with the software when loading, one should try using the sd method of rom flashign. Cook or dl a rom, use XDA tools to load it to an SD, put the SD into the device, and then use the bootloader to load off of SD. Other than that, I know little to nothing.
Good luck!
Search in the forum after SD Card flashing for the Wallaby.
This would fix your device...

Re: Dead SX-56
You guys are good and quick....but!!! As I mentioned, I can't even see the Bootloader even after a reset and power button combo...nothing comes up or happens...the screen just blinks and then goes blank...should I open it up and disconnect the battery or something...? Right now I am just seeing the screen saying "Do not Remove...." and that even in a totally distorted form....
Try pushing a pin in the hard reset, push once only, leave it overnight, I think that is good as removing battery as it disconnects the connection between battery and mainboard as fas as I know. Next morning push once with oin again, you never know your luck. Its weird that the bootloader should be affected however the good thing is that your gsm seems ok and the xda is charging.
XDA Dead!
Thanks for the reply...I have just pushed the pin and am leaving the XDA in that state for the whole day...hope it revives back...its presently just giving me a garbled screen and nothing else...even when I press the power and hard reset together, it comes back to the garbled screen and nothing else...I'll take your advice and not touch it after the above for the day and let you know what happens, if there is any other advice I would highly appreciate it...
Bootloader Malfunction
You mentioned that your bootloader seems to be screwed up. Download the full version of XDA tools WITH the bootloader and Programme A. Grab yourself a new ROM of your choosing, lumpistefan's kitchen, etc. Then use the XDA tools to write the bootloader and the rom to your SD card. After that hard booting the device with the SD card installed should ask you if you want to flash the device.
I noticed that if you have XDA tools without the bootloader file it will write the rom to your SD and you will NOT be able to get to the flash your device screen.
This is the only way to do it since your device will not boot to a rom. Upgrades from manufactures and roms prepared with Programme A all require MS Active Synch AND a good working connection.
If you have a SD card prepared with the ROM and the bootloader the right way, it should almost be foolproof from what I understand.
Hope this helps, I was in much the same situation
XDA Dead!
Yups! I tried to boot it from an SD Card, its not exactly an SD Card but an MMC Card (128MB). It still comes up to the same garbled screen which is more garbled than ever before! Does not ask me for anything; or even confirms anything...It does not do anything else besides the screen even after a soft reset/hard reset or a combo hard/soft power button reset.
I'm really totally stuck...Any ideas will be much appreciated!
Thanks.
Your XDA is completely dead; you screwed OS ROM and bootloader.
Forget SD or Details method, it won't work for you!
Re: Dead SX-56
Can you help me fix it please? What do I need to do?
Bootloader
The more experienced members of this forum can correct me on this, but I have been under the impression that the SD method of flashing does not require an intact OS ROM or bootloader on the device.
If you created the SD correctly, it should contain its own bootloader. Just putting it in the unit and then reseting it should come up with the screen to flash the device.
Did you create the SD card with XDAtools? Did you also have the bootloader file in the /bin directory when you did it?
If a properly created SD "flash" card cannot fix your problem, then you really might have no choice to but to get it professionally repaired where the remove the chips themselves and replace them.
I think you may even be in luck. www.pocketpctechs.com probably can do this and they are located in Fountain Valley, CA about 4 hours away from you. They can also put in bigger memory and batteries at the same time at a discount if you are getting it repaired
Re:
Thank you so much for the reply...I will try it once more; although, yes I have tried the same thing before and made the MMC Card through the XDATools, but never hurts to try again...I'll double check on the bootloader again too this time...
If you can, please send me the contact information for the people who fix the XDA's professionally as you mentioned in the USA somewhere near me preferably, I am in San Jose, CA...I'll try to contact them also...
Best Regards.

Their website is www.pocketpctechs.com.
You can find all the contact information right there. As far as I know fountain valley is about 4-5 hours away from San Jose.
Similar problem:
I have a XDA I here, which has a similar problem:
It boots with the welcome to T-Mobile screen, and
it shows at the bottom of the screen 4.01.16 after a while R4.06 and after a while G32S54. The machine locks-up and does not respond to anything except the touch screen. If i tap the screen, the backlight turns on, and a
rotating 'wait' icon appears. That's it. I am not able to put it in Bootloader mode by pressing power - > reset, so i cannot reflash the unit using SD.
I guess the former user has tried to reflash the unit, and had put the OS overwriting the bootloader, OTOH, the unit seems to run *some* code, since it responds to taps on the screen, by turning on the backlight.
Any guru have any clue on this one? I could not find anything in the forums, while the forums are VERY helpful in the past.

<<I am not able to put it in Bootloader mode by pressing power - > reset, so i cannot reflash the unit using SD>>
I really do not understand that. I am not a Guru by any means, and I hope one does make a comment on this.
As far as a I can tell by my own experiences, you do not need to put it in Bootloader mode by presseing power-reset. That is totally unneccessary to flash the unit. In fact, in Bootloader mode I have never found any command or method to flash the unit from the sd card. Only methods to backup the rom to the sd card. So I am really really confused to hear you guys say that.
I have successfully flashed XDA's with 2 methods. Programme A by which the XDA is connected to Active Synch 3.7 and by an SD card created by XDAtools.
Programme A only seems to work when there are NO problems at all and you just want to upgrade or try something else.
The SD card method seems to be the choice for repair.
Creating the SD card with XDAtools *WITH* the bootloader file in the /bin directory does work. The SD card I created with this method DID not, i repeat, DID not need the Bootloader (power-reset). It only needed to be powered on with the SD Card in the XDA.
If there are any Gurus moderating this post, I would sincerely appreciate having this cleared up

I also have a good working unit, and testing my SD card, created with XDARIT in this unit tells me i need to press power -> reset to be able to
flash the unit. if i do'nt hold the power button, the unit boots normally.

It is only there when you have the SD card in the device, otherwise you cannot find it by moving around through the different menus.
XDAArit is completely outdated. You need to get their new tool.
XDATools can be downloaded from the website here. The best thread that talks about the tool is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2189&highlight=xdatools
The exact link to get the tool and all the supporting files, including the bootloader is:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDAtools-Jeff.exe
When you install this version of XDAtools you will find a directory called binaries. Under it there should be a file called "bootloader_v5_15.nb0"
Use the tool to create your SD card with a .nb1 file of your choice. After that it should only be a matter of powering on the device with the SD card inside the unit.
I have 2 XDAs. 1 good en 1 have problem with bootloader and rom.
I can't access Wallaby bootloader en the OS don't start.
I backup it from good XDA in the bootloader (ce+Boot) and i pushed my SD in the XDA where problems are..
He don't work. How can I fix my problem..
Please Help...
I am not aware of what the (ce+boot) actually creates on the SD card. If that is the exact ROM that you want, I would suggest downloading the full version of XDA tools, and I think you can use it to copy the ROM from the SD card to a .nb1 file on your computer. Then follow the instructions I have already posted to make the working SD card that will flash the XDA.
When it comes to the SD card, the only time I have ever been successfull is when creating it with XDAtools with a .nb1 file and the bootloader .nb0 file inside the binaries directory.
That's it. I have never been able to do it any other way. Programme A does not count since it requires an active and working OS and connection to the PC and most people that are in trouble don't have that.
Ok let me see if I can explain my problem right. I got an android locked to t-mobile USA I am planning to but an unlock code for this phone but the problem that I encountered before buying the code is this this phone come with an application that when it start up it asks you to to set up your gmail account but I am in mexico I am not interested in having a gmail account how can I delete this application or stop it or skip it otherwise I am not going to be able to use the phone what can I do I like this phone but it is useless in the state that it is help
Not having a gmail account means you wont be able to use the market, your contacts wont sync, the included calendar app wont work very well. There may be other issues as well.
Do you hate google or what? A gmail account is free.
no thats not the reason I dont hate google it is just that at the moment when my android turns on it start up with this message
Setting up your T-Mobile G1 I tried to register but it wont register and I can not even use the phone functions the android stays on trying to register this what I do
i try to register then a message comes up that says that it may take up to five minutes but after a while another message show up and it says
there is a problem comunicating with google servers
this could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provioned for data services. If it continues call customer service
well the bottom line I really want to use this phone but how can I get pass this registering bull
here in mexico we run into this problems all the time our cell carriers suck basically i just want to be able to use the phone functions only if anyone can help I will apreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
You may need to downgrade to RC29 depending on what version your phone is currently running.
Also, I'm not sure if your carrier, or any at all, block by IMEI if a phone is reported stolen. I'm not accusing you of stealing, but, you know...

Ok... Long story short:
The G1 is a "google" phone and is dependant on data services and a google account to operate. That being said, the only way you can work around this without having a solid data connection (through your cell provider) is to go the process to root your phone and use one of the builds that allows you to skip google registration. I know TheDude's build lets you, I'm not sure which other builds do. By skipping the sign-in process you would still be able to use wireless internet to get your phone to sync with google once you turn on wifi.
Of course, your phone will have to be unlocked if it's not already.
I suggest you look at the development forum and start reading the links from the "round-up" sticky on the very top.
Thank you everybody for your quick responses but it seems that i am still stuck in the setting your account bull.- i try to root my android but i can even get to format my m sd card as a follow instruction in how to root phone it says to wait until mount show up on my screen how am i suppose to do that when my phone wont get past the setting up account screen can i format m sd card with adapter and then load the rc29 and put it back on my android and follow the rest of the intructions will that work i dont want to try it just like that has anyone else done like this is this going to brick my android.

Yes, if you have a card reader you could put the dreaimg.nbh, update.zip and recovery on your sd card and never have to mount your phone to the pc.
Or just use another device with a memory card reader or writer. Or even better, install ADB, go into the recovery window by pressing home+power and on your computer enter the ADB interface and type in
adb mount /sdcard/
adb push (location of firmware).nbh /sdcard/
and voila.
Hey I downloaded android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2 isnt this file suppose to have everything I need to work in my android but it doesnt where is ADB at and I am suppose to have and update zip and restore it doesnt say anything about that in development. I am liking this but it seems difficult but thats why I like it just show me where this files are at and I promise that I will at least brick my android lol not really but I hope I get it working. Well this are the instructions in how to root.
Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
Turn the device power off.
Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
see it doesnt say that I need and update zip and a recovery. But I might be wrong so where are this files at

What do you mean? I have a quick question for you though, who is your carrier, and do you have the proper APN set up?
Hi folks, i'm looking for 2 days a way to solve my DHD problem:
It can't boot anymore. It pop up the "htc quietly brilliant" screen, play the boot sound and, start this step again, and again, and again...
So I'm googling a LOT about how to solve this, if exist a way to restore the original rom. Because i'm thinking that was the problem, my original rom is gone.
That happens when i try to install 3 softwares from appbrain, my device got freeze and i hit the power button to reset. So, after that, my device is gone.
So i came here, to ask you folks: There is a way to recover the original rom ? Without send to warranty (because it spend something like 1 month here).
I'm not a mobile hacker or something, i'm just trying to be happy with my device.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my poor english!!
Perhaps try booting to the bootloader, by holding Power + Volume down button. From there, you should be able to do a factory reset, which may or may not fix your problem. Worth a shot at least, imo
And if it does not work when you do a factory reset, you can use a rom.zip from HTC RUU to restore your phone.
Now the important thing is to know which HTC rom you are running. If it is unbranded, 1.72.405.3 is a sure shot. Download the RUU.exe from Stock roms thread in android development subforum, and run it. When the window pops up, open run prompt, and type: "%TEMP%". Then search for rom.zip, copy it to your desktop, rename it to PD98IMG.zip and put it to your SD card (I hope that you have a card reader). Then just reboot to bootloader as tmh described, and watch the magic happen
Then if your phone is branded, you can still use the same technique to make PD98IMG.zip, but you have to get the RUU that matches your branding. There are lots of RUUs in android development subforum, just search.
Hi guys,
thanks a lot for quik reply!
I perform the procedure indicated by tmh, but without lucky ;\
I think it is unbranded. I buy it at Portugal and i'm using at Brazil right now.
I'll perform your tip jkoljo.
I'll post a repply to let people know if it works or not.
Thanks a lot!!
Hope the advice the last guy gave helps , a factory re set may work fine and fix the issue. Iv had 3 dhd since the day of release , the second one I had wouldn't switch on, had it replaced by Vodafone . Not sure weather or not they will give you a new one . Hope u get it fixed

Sorry ask for your help again, but at Official thread (thread number 841207) for DHD files, both 1.72.405.3 links are broken.
So i search for another thread, and found another one, but when i run the .exe, it ask for a USB connection to device, so it appears wrong.
Could you gimme a hand to find the correct file?
PS: I can help with a web hosting to all correct files.
You probably found the correct RUU, now proceed to %TEMP% and copy rom.zip to desktop.
You can find RUUs here: http://xdafil.es/index.php?path=DesireHD/RUU/
I am not completely sure if those zip files are actual rom.zips, you can check that. Open up the zip, and if it has a long list of hboot, system, android-info.txt etc, then it is rom.zip and you can just go ahead and rename it to PD98IMG.zip.

At "showthread.php?t=667728&page=2", i found a guy with the same problem i think, here is the quote:

I had the same problem last week.
I suspected it had to do with the EXT3 partition.
Solved it by first flashing the OTA 2.2 ROM (for rooted users) as this does not use the EXT3. Then used Rom manager to recreate the EXT3.
Now all ROMs that use the EXT3 run fine!

(thanks Kinma for the feedback)
So, i start a search for OTA update file here, and found at "showthread.php?t=885996".
But when i choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip", i got INVALID OPERATION.
Someone have a tip for me about this?
Thanks (its very sad, but i must keep hope).

You are welcome.
What happened was that after a reboot of the phone the phone started rebooting in the boot sequence, i.e. a boot loop.
I tried a lot of things and nothing worked.
Finally I suspected that the problem might be with the SD card. I had a backup, so I had no problem doing a factory reset.
Then I booted the phone without the SD card.
The phone booted fine.
That way I was certain that the problem was with the SD card.
I had 2 partitions on the SD card, an EXT3 part and the rest was a normal Fat part.
I could still read the card, so I made a backup of all the data on the card.
Then I reformatted the card using windows.
The phone booted fine with an empty, reformatted, SD card.
Since I use Apps 2 SD, I had to recreate the EXT3 partition.
If your rom does not use this, you do not have to do this.
After recreating the EXT partition, put back all files that I want on my SD card.
My advice would be to do a factory reset and after that boot the phone without the SD card.
If the phone boots, you know the problem is with the card.
Hope that helps; good luck!

Hi folks,
boot without the SD card, doesn't work =(
I'm really without luck with this.
I do:
- Factory reset
- Clear cache and userdata
- Boot without SD or/and SIM cards
- Reflash RUU WWE 1.72.405.3 Radio 26.04.02.17_M2
- Reflash RRU WWE 1.72.405.3 Radio 26.04.02.17_M2 SF
- erase all SD
One show was use OTA update.zip, but at this step i got "invalid operation"
SO, nothing works!
Well, it appears a lost battle =\
thanks folks for all help.
Yeah, there must be something wrong in your device itself, for example a motherboard fault. Send it back to HTC.

Hi,
I found the information extremely useful. Big Thanks
GRuti
Hello you all...
I am an idiot living in DFW area. I have had my nook color since last November and beginning of this year, I've rooted the bloody machine. I don't know what I was thinking. Everyone told me that the process takes only ten minutes or so, and it took me two full days. I should have known that I wasn't smart enough to mass with the machine and should have left it alone.BUT, I did root using the auto rooter file.
This afternoon, I decided to take my nook color back to its default setting and did the 8X thing before preregistering first. Now all I see is the scratched up "n" logo with" with the flashing "color" written beneath and the sickening green robot and the "nook color devs" logo at the bottom right.
It was a gift from my husband which means a lot to me, and I am not in position to just chunk it and buy a new one.
So, is there anyone living in the DFW area who can help me in person. I am only asking this because I am not smart enough to follow all the suggestions and directions that I will get (hopefully). I can show my appreciation to your help with small amount of B&N gift card. Please let me know if there is anyone who is smart and kind hearted to help me out.
Thank you.

You didn't do the 8x thing... be patient and try again, sometimes it seems like a 9x or 10x thing. I have done it a couple of times and just resorted not to count but to keep stopping the boot until it starts booting with the update screen.

Hi bluepen61,
Unfortunately, I did see the update screen. After the update screen and the installing process was finished, I got stuck in the same screen.
I am so sickn' tired of looking at the same screen, I am very very close to
throwing the thing on the wall to be just done with it!

First, if you were able to get the thing rooted, then you are not an idiot (even if it took you two days). If the thing boots at all (which it does by your description...it just gets stuck somewhere), then this can be fixed. Don't throw it out, and dont get too frustrated.
I know you don't think that you can do it, but I can tell you that rooting the Nook is actually harder than installing a custom operating system of returning to the stock operating system.
There is a good thread that gives you step-by-step directions to getting your device back. I can let you know which steps to follow, and we can help if you get stuck...just post here again if a step is giving you trouble and we can guide you through it. I will assume that you want to return the thing to the original stock operating system. If you want to do anything more from there, then it will be easy because you will already know how to do this.
First, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
Read the entire first post. If you don't understand what he is talking about, that is OK.
Now go to the section that starts with "On with the guide:" in bold letters.
For step one in this section:
Download the sd card image that is linked in the first sentence. It is a zip file, so you will have to 'unzip' it before you can do anything with it. I will assume that you know how to do this, but if not it is quite easy. If you are using Windows 7 or XP, just double click on the file like you would any other file or folder. It will open up as a folder and you will see a file with the extension ".img" in the folder. Just drag and drop this somewhere outside of the zip folder (like on your desktop). There are also specific programs for doing this - the thread references a program called 7zip that you can download and use if you like.
For step two in this section:
Now that you have the sd card image, you need to 'burn' it (or copy it) to your micro SD card. If you don't have one of these, you only need a 1gb card and they are very cheap at places like Walmart. You will obvisouly also need a way to plug this card into your computer. Hopefully your computer has a place to plug SD cards in - most newer machines do. If not, then you will also need to pick up an SD card reader that plugs into a USB port on your computer. You will need to download either one of the programs linked in this step - either "win32diskimager" of "winimage". I use the first one and it works well. Once you have that downloaded, you will need to run the program as an administrator. This is done in windows 7 by right-clicking on the icon that runs the program, and then selecting 'run as administrator'. If you are on Windows XP, it should work fine without this. Once it is running, follow the directions that they give you in the thread - there is a link there that shows you exactly how to run the program and how to select your ".img" file from above. If you have trouble with this, post the issue here.
Now go down to the section labeled "Epilogue" in bold letters. Go to step #4. You want to follow the link in that step to download the file called "update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip". Once you have this file downloaded, copy it directly over to your sd card that you prepared above - do not unzip it or otherwise modify it.
If you have gotten this far, then you have done the hardest part. Power down your nook, put your sd card in the device, then turn your Nook back on. You should boot into something called ClockworkMod Recovery. It will be a text-based list of commands. The volume up and down buttons lets you navigate through the commands on the screen, the nook 'N' button on the bottom front of the device is equivalent to the 'enter' button that you press to select a command, and tapping the power button will let you back up one menu screen if you select the wrong thing. You want to use the volume down button and highlight the command 'install zip from sdcard'. Press the nook 'N' button to select this option. Use the volume down button again to highlight the 'choose zip from sdcard' command, and press the 'N' button again. You shoud now see a list of all the files contained on your sdcard. Use the volume down button to highlight the file "update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip", then press the 'N' button again. It will ask you to verify that you want to want to do this - select the option confirming that want to proceed and press the 'N' button again. It will take a few minutes, but a message will appear when it is done. At this point, hold the power button in for 8-10 seconds until the machine turns off. Take out your sd card, then turn the power back on. You should boot into the stock 1.2 operating system and your nook is revived.
It seems like a lot, but like I said if you were able to root it then you can do this. If you get stuck, post which step is giving you trouble and we can get you through it.
I recently purchased a Nook Color (used) at a flea market. I could not check it out prior to purchase because the battery was dead. (Shame on me) The seller did not bother to tell me (Shame on him) that he had "rooted" (I think that is what it is called) the Nook and installed Google apps on it.
When I first power up the Nook, I get a screen that says "Cyanogenmod". The next screen simply says "Android" in small letters in the upper left hand corner. The next screen says "Google" and has two spinning, interlocking gears. Finally, a screen appears with the Android "person" in the middle, with a number of apps that the owner previously downloaded.
I have tried doing the 8 interrupted boots, but that does not seem to be working. All of this talk about ADB and Android sdk is wayyyy above my expertise level. Can someone provide me with an easy to follow/understand step by step guide to restore my Nook Color to stock? I've also tried following the video on theunlockr.com and the forums on xda.developers.com, but some of the hyperlinks to the necessary software appear to no longer be functioning.
Hi Tim you can restore. The easiest way is going to be to create a bootable ClockWork Mod Recovery (CWR) SD card and then flash whatever ROM it is you want the Nook to be (stock, CM7, CM9).
Here are a couple of threads to look at with links to files you may want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599646
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576833
Basically you need a uSD card, a CWR image and the zip file for the ROM you want to restore to. Burn the CWR image to the uSD card using win32diskimager and then place the zip file for the ROM you want to use on the card (not in any folder and don't unzip it).
Power down, place the card in the Nook and power up. Then choose wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and go to advanced and wipe the dalvik cache. This will ensure everything is cleared out to flash the new ROM. Next choose install zip from sd card and choose the zip file of the ROM you want to flash.
Once it is done flashing unmount the sd card and choose reboot or hold the power button until it powers off and remove the card and then power back on.
JP
It is also worth checking first, if you haven't already done so, whether there is a uSD card left in the Nook (under the little hinged cover).
The Nook will load of this first if it is in there and bypass the software on the main machine.
If there is a card in there, then take it out and try powering off and on again to see what it then loads. Also you could retry the 8 failed boots method.
No, there is no sd card in the nook. And I have tried the 8 failed boot method to no avail.
JP, I am downloading one of the programs that was missing. It'll be about an hour before it is done. I'll go from there.
I'll probably be asking more questions, as I am about as computer illiterate as they come. Hope you have a lot of patience and will hang with me.
Tim
It is a pretty simple process as long as you can follow directions. There are only really three main parts 1. Downloading files, 2. Burning an image to make a bootable micro SD card and 3. Flash the downloaded zip files from that card.
I'm sure we'll be able to get you through it
I downloaded the source file but I cannot get it to run. I do not understand the installation instructions in the read me file that comes with the source zip. For example, what does "QT" stand for? Is it quick time or some other program?

What guide are you following? I would suggest using my guide that is linked in my sig. Go to the restoring to stock section.

OK. I followed your link, registered to become an androiad central member. Working on it now. But I think I am in way over my head. How about I just box it up and UPS/FEDEX it to you? I'm in Ohio. I wanted to have it fixed for mother's day but that is obviously not going to happen.
My son says that the previous owner installed the clockwork recovery mode file directly unto the nook color. According to every video we have watched, that is a big no no! Everytime we try to hard reboot the nook, we get the cwm screen with no sd card in the nook.
We finally have the correct winimager file and are going to attempt to return the nook the stock using the cwm recovery image and the nook zip file.

If you use the files from my guide it will get rid of clockworkmod and you will have a completely stock NC.
If you have problems with WinImage try Win32. And always remember to run these programs as Admin.

Where are you in ohio? I could help ya out if you still need it.
Follow info in post 2... its really simple.
Success! Almost. We followed your instructions to the letter. Everything seems to be working. Except, I cannot register the device. I watch the introductory video and then go to the register device screen. I enter my wife's B&N e-mail address and password, but it will not accept it. It refers me to their 800 number.
On your other website I noticed people talking about wiping two different caches. I am not sure my son caught that or skipped that step. Could that be the problem? Or is there something else he/we may have overlooked?
I can't say thanks enough. Hopefully we can get over this last hurdle and I can give it to her tomorrow for mother's day.
Anxiously looking forward to your thoughts.

Hmm. Does making a new account work? If not try going through the steps again and reflash it, it could have been a bad flash.

Oh I didn't even think of that. Yeah, that is most likely the problem. Hopefully you can contact the previous owner and get him/her to deactivate it or you are basically SOL.

Somewhere on the XDA site, I don't recall where, I saw a thread with another 2nd owner who had the same 'previously registered' problem you probably have; he got directions on a workable fix. Do a search; maybe you'll find it...
Thanks to everyone for all their help! I contacted B&N yesterday and it is registered to the former owner. They refused to help. All I could get out of them was I would have to contact the owner myself and ask him to unregister the device. I am working on that, but I don't hold out much help.
As a last resort, I might take it back to an Android device. However, I want it done correctly. I don't need the cell phone Android sysem he installed on it.
Again, thanks! It is nice to meet such helpful people.
