Hi everyone .
I found out something very interesting about our old and retired friend , the
fire tv box 2 , aka sloane .
Now for what I'm about to tell you , the firmware you need to be on is
firmware 5.2.7.6 . this mostly only applies to boxes that were unlocked , flashed ,
recovery installed and firmware pre rooted however anyone with this 5.2.7.6
firmware and root may have the same luck .
Usually older fire devices are useless because it forces you to update your
really old firmware . however many times in the process , you loose root ,
loose being hardware unlocked , and loose recovery .
Still , usually if you don't upgrade the fire tv firmware , most Amazon things
will not run and also will be problematic with other streaming apps .
HOWEVER , I've noticed that if your unlocked , flashed , pre rooted
and are on old enough firmware , Amazon cannot further disable or block your device
from working .
What I specifically mean is with your fire tv 2 being all that I've mentioned above ,
Amazon cannot stop you from just logging into your account ,
Updating your Amazon apps software version , and having your box continue to be current and work , YES , EVEN WITHOUT UPDATING THE FIRMWARE !
Working Amazon prime and more !
I suspect the reason this won't work if your not hardware unlocked , or
not pre ROM rooted is because then Amazon first sends more
code to your device that tells it not to work anymore with Amazon apps
until your forced to update firmware !
So what I'm saying is that unlike any box that is just standard ,
or non modded , my box deing specifically on just the right firmware and without even more Firmware restrictions , my box was allowed to keep current working Amazon streaming apps and update them even with still running old firmware .
The main reason this is also important is because we all know right after the firmware I mentioned above , is when they started getting really aggressive on what their updates
could do to change the way your box runs .
I suspect newer fire devices on newer firmware would already be forced into updating
and loosing root in the process , all because newer firmware intentionally stops
Amazon streaming apps from working until the firmware is updated.
Then again , I could be wrong partially and maybe any older fire device could stay on older
ancient firmware , and just be updated to newer Amazon app software versions instead of
also needing new firmware updates .
Let me know what your experience has been ,
I'm happy that Amazon can never send malicious updates to my unlocked boxes ,
and even though the picture quality of the fire tv 2 Sloane is quite dated now
I'm still happy using it at 1080 and don't really require much else .
Thank you everyone for checking out my post ,
O yea , as of may 2023 , custom launchers are still working for me ,
even though albeit , on my firmware they already only allowed the custom launcher to
be opened by pressing the sleep key fast , twice

Hi ,
Samsung released Marshmallow after a long wait for Open China Note 4 Duos , Hong Kong version is still pending for marshmallow update .
Q1. Did samsung introduced volte for note4 duos with marshmallow ?
Q2. Which custom recovery are you guys using ? Is lollipop compatible twrp working with marshmallow ?
any top chinese mobile forums that you guys can recommend . Google is getting polluted these days with many sites using scripts to copy content from xda to a blogspot site
I went ahead and did a bold move of flashing my HK Note 4 Dual N9100 with the Open China ROM 6.0.1 released by Samsung.
Steps did.
1) Used the cmw recovery compatible with N910w for N9100. Didnt find one for N9100 directly. Worked.
2) Flashed 6.0.1 on top of 5.1.1. After booting up, lot of apps crashed. understandable as it doesnot have google play. Hence factory reset.
3) Rooted the ROM 6.0.1 using Odin setup compatible for N910w. Didnt find one for N9100 directly. Worked.
4) Installed gapps pico. After setting up permissions and few hickups, it too worked.
5) Reinstalled rest of the apps from playstore, everything works.
Outcome - super snappy. excellent battery life than 5.1.1 ROM. Love it.
One problem - 10 mins after you turn off the screen, notifications wont show up on the phone. If your screen is on, all notifications shows up just fine.
Did some research and understood that its the dooze feature that is putting the phone to deep sleep. Its a very talked about issue in Samsung devices specially S5, S6 after it got updated to Marshmallow. Lot of suggestions are written
a) about adding required apps and google play store to "Do not Optimize" section. Tried all but all in vain.
b) Turn off Wifi and see, but no luck.
Its very annoying to not see the notifications show up but not a deal breaker as turning on the screen will bring them. But still.......Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks for updating here , any luck with VoLte? Could you post the links of the exact custom recovery you used . does it support exfat and ext3/4 partition ? I plan on using a partitioned microsd with marshmallow with first half for system memory and 2nd half as removable storage (tib backup , media)
The last update for HK version was on 1st September 2016 which means they are working on the ROM . I am just guessing that CN version might not have VoLTe . There is no ROM difference between Open china and HK except gapps
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N9100/
my carrier does not support VoLTE. So unsure if the 6.0.1 rom supports it. VoLTE is not shown any where in the Network settings though. !
I lost the link for the recovery as i frantically downloaded a few and tried randomly for which one works. . I am trying to attach the recovery file but giving an error as i am a new member.
Any suggestions on the notificatons not showing up after screen off issue?
Is it app specific or all apps?
All apps !

Did your problem solve?
Hi First
I have a problem in my tab in big game like need for speed or any similar game
the sound and graphic start Breaks like playing on an old computer ... so i search for an update
my question :
1- can the update fix this problem ... ( it's still new, buy it from 3 month only )
2- i saw many update different by time and countries too .... so !!!
should i choice my country version or latest update ( 2 month later )
Thanks very much
I think that you just need to check for OTA updates, your tab will try to look for new software everytime you reboot it or press manually look for updates in settings. Maybe you can deal with your issue with a full reset, you will loose everything not synchronized or saved but you have back your brand new functioning tablet
I have a firestick 2nd Gen software version 5x but it won't update
It checks for updates but won't update. Even spoken to Amazon and theyve said it requires a number of updates but they didn't know what to suggest.
I've factory reset the device a number of times and hasn't helped.
Is there any way to manually update it.
I want it to run v6x or7 if possible so that I can run the latest wolf launcher and launcher manager.
TIA

You wont get a 2nd generation to update to fireos 6 or 7 via OTA (over the air updates) .
You can however update the firmware if you unlock the bootloader install twrp and flash the latest prerooted firmware of your choice .
Unless amazon are willing to send you a replacement it is the only way to successfully bring your OS upto date im afraid .

Has anyone done this and can speak to performance?
I have a 1st gen fire tv (not stick) and wondering if it's useful to update and then possibly debloat. Or if this would ultimately be a lot of work for having bad performance in the end.
/edit
Sorry for hijacking this thread, came to the forums looking for something else. Saw the thread, had the thought and just asked. I've tried to read up on rooting and it seems my old firetv (fully upgraded to 5.2.7.4) isn't rootable without soldering so it seems I won't be updating anyway.

Yes i have done this with several sticks and the update works perfectly, i had a stick stuck on version 5.2.6.8 and successfully flashed 5.2.7.2 r1 then 5.2.7.3 . I cannot say the same for montoya 1st geneartion as it would need to be on one of the very lowest firmwares for this to work .

Thanks for that I didnt know that was the case.
They won't send me a replacement I've spoken to them already about it as its out of warranty.
Would you recommend rooting it etc?
Is it worth the headache?
I've rooted phones before but never a firestick

Follow this unlock process here :

For firestick 2nd generation
Then download and install via twrp a prerooted rom from here :
Fire TV Stick 2 (tank) Prerooted Stock Images [5.2.7.3_r1]
As usual, this WILL void your warranty and I am NOT responsible for anything you do with this. Installing it properly won't brick your Fire TV, but doing stupid things with it might. First, you must be unlocked. You can follow the instructions...
forum.xda-developers.com
The guides on each of these posts will demonstrate in an infomative way how to upgrade youre firnware on 2nd gen "tank"(5.2.7.3 is current version of prerooted ).
If you need any help just ask and someone will be happy to help

Hi.
I'm kindy having the same problem.Got a Fire TV pendent brand new that I never opened and it want update. How do I install the source code update manually?
I have my reasons for wanting a device that runs Android 7, but can that subsequently be upgraded to Android 8 (and above), and I am thinking that a second hand Galaxy S8 might do the job.
However, since I am looking at second hand phones, there is no guarantee that it would actually be on Android 7 (unless the online shop is willing to check for me), and I am just wondering if, in the instance where the phone comes with Android 8 or above, would I be able to flash it back to Android 7, or would it be dependent on bootloader version. And if it is bootloader version dependant, which version would allow me to downgrade back to Android 7?
Thanks.

On the S8 android version 7 has a binary ( bootloader ) version 1. Early version of Oreo has a binary ( bootloader ) 1 as well ie: beta and next few upgrades. I can't remember exactly when the version 2 binary ( bootloader ) was introduced, might have been 3 or 4 version of Oreo before being stable.
If looking for a 2nd phone that can by downgraded to android 7 you will need bl version 1. Anything with bl version 2 and higher can not be downgraded to android version 7.
You can check in settings - about phone - software information - Baseband version. Binary ( bootloader ) number will be the 5th number/letter from the right, you can also check build number as well.

Thanks a lot. Do you know if custom ROMs, for instance Lineage also update the baseband as you go up versions?
The second hand shop I was looking at update everything they sell with the latest available update and I suspect that is common practice. So I am thinking that the best option for me would be to sacrifice the e-fuse on my Samsung S7 with Android 7.0, and start playing with various Android versions / ROMs. However, I may want to go back to Android 7.0 on that phone eventually, so it is important that I don't accidentally mess that up.

I normally use stock rom's as some of my apps don't work well with custom roms. Usually the only time that i've installed a custom roms is if someone else is having trouble with the installation process then i revert back to stock.
The Baseband ( in about phone ) will always show the current version of the OS whether it's stock or custom that you are on ( including updates ).
As far as i know custom roms do not increase you bootloader version number. So you should be able to revert back to the current stock rom that your on. You can always check bootloader version in Download ( odin ) Mode.
If you have any questions you should ask in the custom roms section for more information.
Hi All,
Earlier I have uninstalled the AirTel XStream Application from the XStream using the steps provided last year in youtube. However my Airtel XStream SmartBox Firmware Upgraded to hsw4026atl-3.1.6-220211 and I can't stop or remove the XStream Application. Even the ADB Services couldn't be enabled from Developer Option. I have tried to connect the ADB shell to my Xtream SmartBox, the connection is refused by the Android TV as the services aren't working as expected. Please suggest whether we have an option to flash the Android TV with a different Android version or downgrade the software.
Note: I have performed to reset as well as wipe data/factory reset. It wasn't helpful as the old version doesn't exist in the device. Please suggest some tools to flash the device to any other Android TV Firmware using USB or LAN Cable.
@kkarthik3 I am having the same problem Even my dth cable was disconnected for the airtel XStream box
At first, the tv screen went blank, google voice assistant was working I could open the device settings and playstore too but I can't play youtube or any other application only playstore.
I tried reformating but nothing worked yet
the possible solution I think is to downgrade the firmware update for the STB looking into the internet but no luck yet.
firmware is listed here but couldn't download it

Yes There is no other options till now to prevent locking again ant you can't turn on usb debugging
People who are facing issue with this latest version, can you please post a video showing what exactly is the issue you are facing because my setup box is undated to the latest version but still I am able to use it for other applications without recharge.
I am not sure whether the setup box I am using will start giving issue as you guys are facing in anytime in future or issue has been bypased or taken care of by me unknowingly.
My stb is on 3.1.6 fw version as op mentioned. I was getting restart stb to finish update prompts repeatedly yesterday which i was skipping thinking it will again lock the device but my family members restarted it on their own and it's still working for now.

After all testing and finding.... i have to recharge my stb with rs 749 for 1 year of peaceful usability....... i couldn't find any other way to make it work like before with deleting of airtel app and installing custom launcher. This is the cheapest and easiest and simple solution.

One can sell off locked xstream box to new user who want to use with recharge.
